[Neck skin-muscular flap use in cases of expanded operations on the occasion of malignant neoplasms of maxillo-facial region].

Comparative analysis of the results of different flaps, cut out on side surface of the neck for plastic cover of extensive defects of maxillo-facial region (MFR) formed after malignant tumors ablation, use was carried out. Reconstructive plastic operations were performed in 84 patients: displacement of neck skin-facial flap on the stem in 54 (64.1%) patients, use of neck skin-muscle flap (SMF) in 20 (23.8%) patients, use of improved method of skin-muscle transplant forming from only medial part of nodding muscle in 10 (12.1%) patients. Good cosmetic and functional results were received in 62 (73.8%) observations. Use of complex SMF after surgical interventions in cases of malignant tumors in MFR let reduce the number of postoperative complications and provide earlier rehabilitation of this heavy group of patients.

[Surgical interventions on the carotid arteries in removing metastatic tumors of the neck]. / Khirurgicheskie vmeshatel'stva na sonnykh arteriiakh pri udalenii metastaticheskikh opukholei shei.

An analysis is presented of the treatment in 55 patients with cancer metastases in jugular lymph nodes with the carotid wall proliferation. While removing metastatic conglomerates all patients were subjected to different surgical procedures on carotid arteries, including denudation, circular and edge resection of the common and internal carotid arteries, resection of the exterior carotid artery. Consideration is given of the complications observed, frequency of tumor recurrences, the immediate, late and remote results of the treatment. Surgical treatment in this group of patients resulted in the survival over 3 years in 20% of cases, up to 5 years and longer--in 18%.

[X-ray contrast and radioisotope angiography in tumors of the neck]. / Rentgenokontrastnaia i radioizotopnaia angiografiia pri opukholiakh shei

Comparative results of angiography and radioisotope scintigraphy with technetium (Tc 99 m) in 38 patients having different jugular tumors are reported. Both methods were found to correlate well with respect to the estimation of tutor blood supply. Radioisotope scintigraphy is a more simple, physiological and practically safe method of investigation, and the former should be recommended for estimating the degree of tumors vascularization, the state of brain circulation and also in cases when angiography proves to be unfeasible.

[Intrathyroid iodine in the diagnosis of thyroid cancer]. / Intratireoidnyi iod v diagnostike raka shchitvidnoi zhelezy.

The stable intrathyroid iodine concentrations characteristic of nodular goiter, thyroid adenoma and cancer were determined by means of neutron activation analysis of resected material, Mean iodine levels in the destruction focus in cancer, adenoma and nodular goiter were 32 +/- 5, 174 +/- 38 and 344 +/- 43, respectively. while 960 +/- 91, 527+/-138 and 639+/-66 micrograms of iodine per 1g of wet weight were found in the surrounding apparently intact tissues of thyroid parenchyma. The importance of the difference between the absolute value of iodine concentration in the destruction focus and that in intact tissue for differential diagnosis of thyroid cancer is discussed.

[Assay of thyrocalcitonin in cervical lymph node using fine-needle washings for the diagnosis of disseminated medullary thyroid carcinoma]. / Opredelenie soderzhaniia tireokal'tsitonina v punktate limfaticheskikh uzlov shei dlia diagnostiki metastazov medulliarnogo raka shchitovidnoi zhelezy.

Fine-needle aspiration biopsy of cervical lymph nodes was carried out in 22 patients with suspected metastatic involvement with medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTS). It was followed by cytopathological examination of aspirates and assay of of thyrocalcitonin (TCT) in fine-needle washings. TCT determinations proved highly informative as well as significantly high in all seven cases of MTS involvement (26-8,484.87 pg/ml, mean 2,208 +/- 1,722 pg/ml).

In the paper the authors report their experience with application of a jugular fatcutaneous pedicled graft for primary reconstruction of defects of the oral mucous membrane following resection of localy spread malignant tumors under conditions of preliminary radiotherapy. Results of the plasty in 30 patients are reported. The technic of cutting out the graft is described.

In the paper, the authors report their experience with the use of deltopectoral fat-cutaneous grafts for primary reconstruction of jugular skin defects after the combined therapy for malignant tumors. The technic of procurement of such grafts is described. The results of the plasty performed in 20 patients are reported. Favourable results were noted in 19 patients.
