RESUMO

Rapid urbanization poses great challenges to China's urban land use sustainability (ULUS). Land is the essential space to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, so SDGs provide a new guide to evaluate land use sustainability. However, there is still a lack of SDGs-oriented assessment of urban land use at national level. Moreover, there is still a need to address the problems about the randomness and fuzziness within evaluation, which tends to cause more uncertainties. Here we developed a SDGs-oriented evaluation framework based on the cloud model and derived the spatial and temporal patterns of urban land use sustainability for China at the prefecture-level from 2004 to 2019. Then, we used the McKinsey matrix to classify the types of urban land use sustainability, and examined their main drivers using the Geodetector method. The results showed that the development level of ULUS in China was high in the east and low in the west. High-value hotspots were mainly distributed in primary and secondary urban agglomerations in China. From 2004 to 2019, the development level of ULUS in China gradually increased, but the growth rate slowed down. In 2009 the value of central China exceeded that of the northeast. In contrast, the coordination level of ULUS had declined in more than 50% of Chinese cities during the study period. The high values were in southern China, northeast China, and Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, while the low values were in central and southern Liaoning and the urban agglomeration in the Central Plains. The development level was mainly controlled by anthropogenic activities and urban development, while natural conditions constrained the improvement of the coordination level. Combining the development and coordination, we found that cities with higher development level often had a wide range of coordination level, and suggestions were put forward for different regions to achieve sustainable land use. Our research provides scientific guidance for China's territory planning and sustainable urban development.

RESUMO

Recent decades of epidemiological and clinical research have suggested that heat exposure could be a potential risk factor for ischemic stroke. Despite climate factors having a minor impact on individuals compared with established risk factors such as smoking, their widespread and persistent effects significantly affect public health. The mechanisms by which heat exposure triggers ischemic stroke are currently unclear. However, several potential mechanisms, such as the impact of temperature variability on stroke risk factors, inflammation, oxidative stress, and coagulation system changes, have been proposed. This article details the potential mechanisms by which heat exposure may induce ischemic stroke, aiming to guide the prevention and treatment of high-risk groups in hot climates and support public health policy development.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether baseline systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is associated with 3-month poor prognosis and early neurological outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with intravenous thrombolysis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 221 consecutive patients were enrolled in the retrospective study. The primary endpoints were poor functional outcomes or death at 3 months. Secondary endpoints were early neurological deterioration (END) or symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage within 24 hours. Receiver operating characteristic curve analyses was performed to assess the overall discriminative ability of SII in predicting the 4 endpoints. We also performed the Spearman correlation test to evaluate the relationship between SII and stroke severity. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the associations between SII and endpoints. RESULTS: The cutoff values of SII were 504.99×10 9 /L for predicting a 3-month poor prognosis (sensitivity, 70.9% and specificity, 69.6%), 524.47×10 9 /L for predicting 3-month death (sensitivity, 78.9% and specificity, 59.9%) and 504.99×10 9 /L for predicting END (sensitivity, 70.7% and specificity, 62.6%), respectively. A positive association between SII and the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale was observed ( rs = 0.306, P < 0.001). Multivariable analyses indicated that SII was independently associated with 3-month poor prognosis [odds ratio (OR) = 5.384; 95% CI: 2.844-10.193; P < 0.001], 3-month death (OR = 2.592, 95% CI: 1.046-6.421, P = 0.040) and END (OR = 3.202, 95% CI: 1.796-5.707, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Increased baseline SII was associated with END and 3-month poor outcomes, and may act as a potential prognostic predictor for acute ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis.

RESUMO

As a major co-factor of F-actin depolymerization, WD-repeat domain 1 (WDR1) affects the cellular microenvironment by cytoskeleton remodeling, thereby influencing cell molecular behavior. Our previous study showed that WDR1 activates YAP (Yes-associated protein) signaling in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells, but the mechanism remains unclear. We discovered that knockdown WDR1 in NSCLC cells decreased the expression of YAP and the nucleus-to-cytoplasm ratio. Disruption of cortical stress by drugs significantly inhibited YAP nuclear trafficking and enhanced YAP phosphorylation. In WDR1-knockdown NSCLC cells, inhibition of Hippo pathway reduced the nuclear exclusion of YAP and phosphorylated YAP. Our data suggest that WDR1-mediated cortical stress might be involved in regulating YAP signaling, thereby affecting the proliferation and migration of NSCLC cells.
