RESUMO

Anti-IgLON5 disease is a rare and likely underdiagnosed subtype of autoimmune encephalitis. The disease displays a heterogeneous phenotype that includes sleep, movement and bulbar-associated dysfunction. The presence of IgLON5-antibodies in CSF/serum, together with a strong association with HLA-DRB1*10:01∼DQB1*05:01, supports an autoimmune basis. In this study, a multicentric human leukocyte antigen (HLA) study of 87 anti-IgLON5 patients revealed a stronger association with HLA-DQ than HLA-DR. Specifically, we identified a predisposing rank-wise association with HLA-DQA1*01:05∼DQB1*05:01, HLA-DQA1*01:01∼DQB1*05:01 and HLA-DQA1*01:04∼DQB1*05:03 in 85% of patients. HLA sequences and binding cores for these three DQ heterodimers were similar, unlike those of linked DRB1 alleles, supporting a causal link to HLA-DQ. This association was further reflected in an increasingly later age of onset across each genotype group, with a delay of up to 11 years, while HLA-DQ-dosage dependent effects were also suggested by reduced risk in the presence of non-predisposing DQ1 alleles. The functional relevance of the observed HLA-DQ molecules was studied with competition binding assays. These proof-of-concept experiments revealed preferential binding of IgLON5 in a post-translationally modified, but not native, state to all three risk-associated HLA-DQ receptors. Further, a deamidated peptide from the Ig2-domain of IgLON5 activated T cells in two patients, compared with one control carrying HLA-DQA1*01:05∼DQB1*05:01. Taken together, these data support a HLA-DQ-mediated T-cell response to IgLON5 as a potentially key step in the initiation of autoimmunity in this disease.

Cu2S likely plays an important role in the sharp resistivity transition of LK-99. Nevertheless, this immediately arouses an intriguing question of whether the extraordinary room-temperature colossal magnetoresistance in the initial reports, which has been less focused, originates from Cu2S as well. To resolve this issue, we have systematically investigated the electrical transport and magnetotransport properties of near-stoichiometric Cu2S pellets and thin films. Neither Cu2S nor LK-99 containing Cu2S in this study was found to exhibit the remarkable magnetoresistance effect implied by Lee et al. This implies that Cu2S could not account for all of the intriguing transport properties of the initially reported LK-99, and the initially reported LK-99 samples might contain magnetic impurities. Moreover, based on the crystal-structure-sensitive electrical properties of Cu2S, we have constructed a piezoelectric-strain-controlled device and obtained a giant and reversible resistance modulation of 2 orders of magnitude at room temperature, yielding a huge gauge factor of 160,000.

Propane dehydrogenation (PDH) serves as a pivotal intentional technique to produce propylene. The stability of PDH catalysts is generally restricted by the readsorption of propylene which can subsequently undergo side reactions for coke formation. Herein, we demonstrate an ultrastable PDH catalyst by encapsulating PtIn clusters within silicalite-1 which serves as an efficient promoter for olefin desorption. The mean lifetime of PtIn@S-1 (S-1, silicalite-1) was calculated as 37317 h with high propylene selectivity of >97% at 580 °C with a weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 4.7 h-1. With an ultrahigh WHSV of 1128 h-1, which pushed the catalyst away from the equilibrium conversion to 13.3%, PtIn@S-1 substantially outperformed other reported PDH catalysts in terms of mean lifetime (32058 h), reaction rates (3.42 molpropylene gcat-1 h-1 and 341.90 molpropylene gPt-1 h-1), and total turnover number (14387.30 kgpropylene gcat-1). The developed catalyst is likely to lead the way to scalable PDH applications.

Histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 2 (HINT2) is an enzyme found in mitochondria that functions as a nucleotide hydrolase and transferase. Prior studies have demonstrated that HINT2 plays a crucial role in ischemic heart disease, but its importance in cardiac remodelling remains unknown. Therefore, the current study intends to determine the role of HINT2 in cardiac remodelling. HINT2 expression levels were found to be lower in failing hearts and hypertrophy cardiomyocytes. The mice that overexpressed HINT2 exhibited reduced myocyte hypertrophy and cardiac dysfunction in response to stress. In contrast, the deficiency of HINT2 in the heart of mice resulted in a worsening hypertrophic phenotype. Further analysis indicated that upregulated genes were predominantly associated with the oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondrial complex I pathways in HINT2-overexpressed mice after aortic banding (AB) treatment. This suggests that HINT2 increases the expression of NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) flavoprotein (NDUF) genes. In cellular studies, rotenone was used to disrupt mitochondrial complex I, and the protective effect of HINT2 overexpression was nullified. Lastly, we predicted that thyroid hormone receptor beta might regulate HINT2 transcriptional activity. To conclusion, the current study showcased that HINT2 alleviates pressure overload-induced cardiac remodelling by influencing the activity and assembly of mitochondrial complex I. Thus, targeting HINT2 could be a novel therapeutic strategy for reducing cardiac remodelling.

BACKGROUND: This study was designed to assess the associations between emerging cardiometabolic indices-the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), the stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR), the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, and the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR)-and the incidence of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. METHODS: We consecutively enrolled 4351 T2D patients. The AIP, SHR, TyG index, and HOMA-IR were calculated from baseline parameters. DKD was defined as a urine albumin/creatinine ratio > 30 mg/g or an eGFR < 60 mL/min per 1.73 m. All participants were categorized into tertiles based on the cardiometabolic indices. Multivariate logistic regression models, restricted cubic splines, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used for analysis. RESULTS: A total of 1371 (31.5%) patients were diagnosed with DKD. A restricted cubic spline showed a J-shaped association of the AIP and TyG index with DKD, a log-shaped association between HOMA-IR and DKD, and a U-shaped association between the SHR and DKD incidence. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that individuals in the highest tertile of the four cardiometabolic indices had a significantly greater risk of DKD than did those in the lowest tertile (AIP: OR = 1.08, 95% CI = 1.02-1.14, P = 0.005; SHR: OR = 1.42, 95% CI = 1.12-1.81, P = 0.004; TyG index: OR = 1.86, 95% CI = 1.42-2.45, P < 0.001; HOMA-IR: OR = 2.24, 95% CI = 1.52-3.30, P < 0.001). The receiver operating characteristic curves showed that the HOMA-IR score was better than other indices at predicting the risk of DKD, with an optimal cutoff of 3.532. CONCLUSIONS: Elevated AIP, SHR, TyG index and HOMA-IR are associated with a greater risk of DKD in patients with T2D. Among these indices, the HOMA-IR score demonstrated the strongest association with and predictive value for DKD incidence.

Cytarabine (Ara-C) is widely used in the induction chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Association between LncRNA GAS5 genetic polymorphism and the recovery of hematopoietic function after Ara-C-based chemotherapy is observed. This study aimed to identify whether intervention of GAS5 expression and GAS5 genotype affect Ara-C-induced inhibition of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) differentiation. In this study, cord blood-derived CD34+ cells were cultured in vitro, and a cell model of myelosuppression was established by treatment of CD34+ cells with Ara-C. The effect of GAS5 overexpression, Ara-C treatment, and GAS5 rs55829688 genotype on the hematopoietic colony-forming ability of CD34+ cells was assessed using methylcellulose-based colony forming unit assay. GAS5 overexpression slowed down the proliferation of cord blood-derived CD34+ cells significantly (p < 0.05) and decreased their ability to form hematopoietic colonies in vitro. Ara-C significantly reduced the hematopoietic colony-forming ability of CD34+ cells in vitro (p < 0.0001), and overexpressing GAS5 further decreased the number of hematopoietic colonies. GAS5 expression was higher in CD34+ cells than in CD34- cells, and positively correlated with GATA1 mRNA expression in CD34+ cells in vitro culture. However, GAS5 genotype had no effect on the total number of hematopoietic colonies formed from cord blood-derived CD34+ cells. In conclusion, our study highlights that GAS5 inhibited the in vitro proliferation and reduced the hematopoietic colony-forming ability of cord blood-derived CD34+ cells, with the most pronounced effect observed on CFU-GEMM formation. GAS5 also enhanced the inhibitory effect of Ara-C on the in vitro hematopoietic ability of CD34+ HSCs.

Remnant cholesterol (RC) is closely related to metabolic diseases. Our study aims to explore the relationship between RC and hyperuricemia. This cross-sectional study included 14 568 adults aged 20 years or older from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2007 and 2018 in the United States. RC is calculated by subtracting high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) from total cholesterol (TC). Hyperuricemia is defined by serum uric acid (SUA) levels≥7 mg/dl in men and≥6 mg/dl in women. The independent association between RC and hyperuricemia was evaluated. As the quartile range of RC levels increases, the prevalence of hyperuricemia also rises (7.84% vs. 13.71% vs. 18.61% vs. 26.24%, p<0.001). After adjusting for confounding factors, the fourth quartile of RC was associated with an increased risk of hyperuricemia compared with the first quartile (OR=2.942, 95% CI 2.473-3.502, p<0.001). Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis shows that RC outperforms other single lipid indices in hyperuricemia. Further Restricted Cubic Splines (RCS) analysis suggests a nonlinear relationship between RC levels and hyperuricemia. Elevated RC levels were found to be linked to hyperuricemia. Further studies on RC hold promise for both preventing and addressing hyperuricemia.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: This study aimed to assess the potential of neck circumference (NC) and neck-to-height ratio (NHR) as predictors of future cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in a general population from Northeastern China. METHODS: A multi-center prospective study was conducted in Northeastern China, involving 18, 796 participants. The associations between NC or NHR and the incidence of overall CVD mortality, stroke mortality, and coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality were examined using multivariate Cox regression models. Hazard ratios (HRs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Reclassification analyses were conducted to determine the incremental predictive value of NC or NHR. RESULTS: NC was significantly associated with the risk of CVD mortality, independent of other anthropometric measurements for obesity. Individuals in the highest quartile of NC had a 1.83-fold (95% CI 1.29 to 2.61) and a 2.40-fold (95% CI 1.45 to 4.00) higher risk of overall CVD mortality and CHD mortality, respectively. Larger NC was significantly related to a heightened risk of ischemic stroke mortality, although no such association was observed with hemorrhagic stroke mortality. Furthermore, the risk of overall CVD mortality, stroke mortality, and CHD mortality increased by approximately 1.21 to 1.25 times per 1-SD change in NC. Similar findings were observed for NHR. The percentages of correct classification of overall CVD mortality improved by 12.1% and 16.3% after the addition of NC or NHR into established models, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: NC and NHR might be promising predictors of CVD mortality, with higher values indicating greater risk.

The hemorrhagic disease causing by grass carp reovirus (GCRV) infection, is associated with major economic losses and significant impact on aquaculture worldwide. VP4 of GCRV is one of the major outer capsid proteins which can induce an immune response in the host. In this study, pNZ8148-VP4/L. lactis was constructed to express recombinant VP4 protein of GCRV, which was confirmed by the Western-Blot and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Then we performed the oral immunization for rare minnow model and the challenge with GCRV-II. After oral administration, pNZ8148-VP4/L. lactis can continuously reside in the intestinal tract to achieve antigen presentation. The intestinal and spleen samples were collected at different time intervals after immunization, and the expression of immune-related genes was detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR. The results showed that VP4 recombinant L. lactis could induce complete cellular and humoral immune responses in the intestinal mucosal system, and effectively regulate the immunological effect of the spleen. The immunogenicity and the protective efficacy of the oral vaccine was evaluated by determining IgM levels and viral challenge to vaccinated fish, a significant level (P < 0.01) of antigen-specific IgM with GCRV-II neutralizing activity was able to be detected, which provided a effective protection in the challenge experiment. These results indicated that an oral probiotic vaccine with VP4 expression can provide effective protection for grass carp against GCRV-II challenge, suggesting a promising vaccine strategy for fish.

Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) in poultry feed and the farm environment might bioaccumulate in poultry eggs. Unlike chickens, which are mostly raised in cages, ducks are commonly raised free range. This would expose ducks to CPs in the environment. However, information on the presence of CPs on duck farms is scarce. In the present study, samples of duck eggs, duck feathers, poultry feed, and soil were collected from 25 duck farms in South China. Forty-eight congener groups of short- and medium-chain CPs (SCCPs and MCCPs) were detected in the samples. Interestingly, relatively high concentrations of SCCPs and MCCPs were found in the duck feathers. The median concentrations of SCCPs and MCCPs in the duck eggs, feathers, feed and soil were: 46 and 18 ng/g wet weight, 2460 and 992 ng/g, 103 and 47 ng/g, and 24 and 10 ng/g dry weight, respectively. The dominant groups of SCCPs and MCCPs were C10Cl6-7 and C14Cl7-8, respectively. The close relationship between duck feathers and poultry feed indicated that the duck feathers might act as a bioindicator for the exposure of ducks to CPs. The margin of exposure approach was used to assess the health risk, with the results showing that the consumption of duck eggs posed a low risk to different age groups from exposure to SCCPs and MCCPs.

Interfacial electron transfer (IET) through saturated single-linker and dual-linker groups from a perylene chromophore into nanostructured TiO2 films was studied by ultrafast spectroscopy. Perylene chromophores with one and two propanoic acid linker groups in the peri and ortho positions were investigated. In comparison to previously studied perylenes bound via unsaturated acrylic acid linkers, the chromophores with saturated linkers showed bi-exponential IET dynamics. Two distinct transfer times were observed that indicate the presence of two concurrent binding modes. A comparison between ortho- and peri-substituted sensitizers resulted in slower IET dynamics and weaker electronic coupling for ortho substitution. Finally, IET from sensitizers with saturated linker groups is neither promoted nor hindered by a second linker group. This indicates that only one of the two linkers binds covalently to the surface. This study reveals the importance of the anchor-binding mode and design considerations of the linker for regulating IET.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the association between central sensitivity to thyroid hormones and all-cause mortality in euthyroid patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: ​Data on thyroid function indicators and all-cause mortality for CKD patients were extracted from the NHANES database (2007-2012). Central sensitivities to thyroid hormones were mainly evaluated by Thyroid Feedback Quantile-based Index (TFQI). The Kaplan-Meier method, Cox proportional hazards regression model and subgroup analysis were performed to explore the potential associations between thyroid hormone sensitivity and all-cause mortality. RESULTS: A total of 1303 euthyroid CKD patients were enrolled in this study. After a median follow-up of 115 months, 503 participants died. The Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated significant variations in survival rates among different levels of TFQI (P = 0.0015). Cox regression analysis showed that increased levels of TFQI were independent risk factors for all-cause mortality after adjusting for multiple confounding factors (HR = 1.40, 95% CI 1.10-1.79, P = 0.007). Subgroup analysis did not reveal any significant variation in the association between TFQI and all-cause mortality between the subgroups assessed (P for interaction > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that impaired thyroid hormone sensitivity might be linked to increased mortality in euthyroid CKD patients. Further research is needed to confirm and explore this association.

OBJECTIVE: Dystonia is among the most common pediatric movement disorders and can manifest with a range of debilitating symptoms, including sleep disruptions. The duration and quality of sleep are strongly associated with quality of life in these individuals and could serve as biomarkers of dystonia severity and the efficacy of interventions such as deep brain stimulation (DBS). Thus, this study investigated sleep duration and its relationship to disease severity and DBS response in pediatric dystonia. METHODS: Actigraphs (wearable three-axis accelerometers) were used to record multiday sleep data in 22 children with dystonia, including 6 patients before and after DBS implantation, and age- and sex- matched healthy controls. Data were preprocessed, and metrics of sleep duration and quality were extracted. Repeated-measures statistical analyses were used. RESULTS: Children with dystonia slept less than typically developing children (p = 0.009), and shorter sleep duration showed trending correlation with worse dystonia severity (r = -0.421, p = 0.073). Of 4 patients who underwent DBS and had good-quality data, 1 demonstrated significantly improved sleep (p < 0.001) postoperatively. Reduction in dystonia severity strongly correlated with increased sleep duration after DBS implantation (r = -0.965, p = 0.035). CONCLUSIONS: Sleep disturbances are an underrecognized marker of pediatric dystonia severity, as well as the effectiveness of interventions such as DBS. They can serve as objective biomarkers of disease burden and symptom progression after treatment.

Regulatory T cell (Treg) deficiency leads to immune dysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, enteropathy, and X-linked (IPEX) syndrome, which is a CD4+ T cell-driven autoimmune disease in both humans and mice. Despite understanding the molecular and cellular characteristics of IPEX syndrome, new treatment options have remained elusive. Here, we hypothesized that salvianolic acid B (Sal B), one of the main active ingredients of Salvia miltiorrhiza, can protect against immune disorders induced by Treg deficiency. To examine whether Sal B can inhibit Treg deficiency-induced autoimmunity, Treg-deficient scurfy (SF) mice with a mutation in forkhead box protein 3 were treated with different doses of Sal B. Immune cells, inflammatory cell infiltration, and cytokines were evaluated by flow cytometry, hematoxylin and eosin staining and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay Kits, respectively. Moreover, RNA sequencing, western blot, and real-time PCR were adopted to investigate the molecular mechanisms of action of Sal B. Sal B prolonged lifespan and reduced inflammation in the liver and lung of SF mice. Moreover, Sal B decreased plasma levels of several inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-2, IFN-γ, IL-4, TNF-α, and IL-6, in SF mice. By analyzing the transcriptomics of livers, we determined the signaling pathways, especially the IL-2-signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) signaling pathway, which were associated with Treg deficiency-induced autoimmunity. Remarkably, Sal B reversed the expression of gene signatures related to the IL-2-STAT5 signaling pathway in vitro and in vivo. Sal B prolongs survival and inhibits lethal inflammation in SF mice through the IL-2-STAT5 axis. Our findings may inspire novel drug discovery efforts aimed at treating IPEX syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: The clinical characteristics and mechanisms of stroke caused by anterior circulation atherosclerotic plaques (ACAPs) and posterior circulation atherosclerotic plaques (PCAPs) are distinct. We aimed to compare the differences in vulnerability, morphology, and distribution between ACAPs and PCAPs based on hign-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang database were retrieved from inception through May 2023. Meta-analysis was performed by R 4.2.1 software. The quality of the literature was assessed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Subgroup analysis was conducted to explore the heterogeneity of the pooled results. RESULTS: There were a total of 13 articles, including 1194 ACAPs and 1037 PCAPs. The pooled estimates demonstrated that the incidence of intraplaque hemorrhage in the PCAPs was higher (OR 1.72, 95%CI 1.35-2.18). The plaque length (SMD 0.23, 95%CI 0.06-0.39) and remodeling index (SMD 0.29, 95%CI 0.14-0.44) of PCAPs were larger than those in ACAPs. However, there were no evident differences in significant enhancement or stenosis degree between the two groups. CONCLUSION: There were more unstable features in PCAPs, highlighting an elevated risk of recurrent ischemic stroke in the posterior circulation. Furthermore, PCAPs were prone to developing penetrating artery disease due to their wider distribution. Nevertheless, posterior circulation arteries exhibited a greater propensity for outward remodeling, which may lead treatment team to miss the optimal intervention stage by being overlooked on angiographic detection.

Phosphorus pollution poses a significant challenge in addressing water contamination. The coagulant is one of the effective methods to remove phosphorus from wastewater. Abundant Al and Fe oxides in sludge residue make it have great potential to synthesize water treatment coagulants. However, the utilization of sludge residue for preparation of coagulant was seldom investigated. In this study, we fabricated a novel coagulant, polyaluminum ferric chloride (SM-PAC), using sludge residue as a raw material through acid leaching and polymerization processes. Characterization results confirm that the parameters of SM-PAC meet the specifications outlined in the national standard (GB/T 22627-2022). We investigated the effects of pH, dosage, initial phosphorus concentration, and contact time on the removal efficiency of SM-PAC. As anticipated, the prepared SM-PAC exhibited a significant efficacy in removing phosphorus, meeting the discharge standards set for municipal sewage. Furthermore, the adsorption kinetics analysis suggests that the predominant mode of phosphorus adsorption on SM-PAC is chemical adsorption. Furthermore, the SM-PAC was employed in the actual wastewater treatment plant and exhibited excellent efficiency in phosphorus removal. The utilization of SM-PAC can not only effectively address the issue of sludge disposal but also achieve the goal of "treating waste with waste." It is expected that the proposed method of reusing sludge residue as a resource can provide a sustainable way to synthesize a coagulant for phosphorus removal.

BACKGROUND: The authors developed a simple extensible external fixator, which has the advantages of easy application and inexpensiveness. The present study aimed to make a comparison between this external fixator and calcaneal traction in preoperative temporary fixation for malaligned ankle fractures and pilon fractures. METHODS: From May 2020 to February 2022, patients with malaligned ankle fractures or Rüedi-Allgöwer type 2 or 3 pilon fractures with obvious soft tissue swelling were retrospectively reviewed and divided into the calcaneal traction group and the external fixation group. The two groups of patients were matched 1:1 before making comparisons. RESULTS: A total of 38 patients were included. Higher General Comfort Questionnaire score and lower visual analog scale score were noticed in the external fixation group during hospitalization (p < 0.05), while the operation latency time, total cost, patient satisfaction, and functional outcomes one year after surgery were not significantly different between the two groups. No wound complications were observed. CONCLUSION: Preoperative temporary fixation for fractures around the ankle using this simple extensible external fixator significantly improves patient comfort when compared to calcaneal traction. The surface chemistry of CeO2 is dictated by the well-defined facets, which exert great influence on the supported metal species and the catalytic performance. Here we report Pt1/CeO2 catalysts exhibiting specific structures of Pt-O coordination on different facets by using adequate preparation methods. The simple impregnation method results in Pt-O3 coordination on the predominantly exposed {111} facets, while the photo-deposition method achieves oriented atomic deposition for Pt-O4 coordination into the "nano-pocket" structure of {100} facets at the top. Compared to the impregnated Pt1/CeO2 catalyst showing normal redox properties and low-temperature activity for CO oxidation, the photo-deposited Pt1/CeO2 exhibits uncustomary strong metal-support interaction and extraordinary high-temperature stability. The preparation methods dictate the facet-dependent diversity of Pt-O coordination, resulting in the further activity-selectivity trade-off. By applying specific preparation routes, our work provides an example of disentangling the effects of support facets and coordination environments for nano-catalysts.

The pollution of agricultural soil by heavy metals is a significant environmental issue that has a serious impact on human health and food security. This study focused on investigating the presence of heavy metal pollution in sewage-irrigated soils in Taiyuan city. A total of 110 soil samples were analyzed for the presence of As, Hg, Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu and Zn. The results showed that the concentrations of these metals ranged from 0.06 to 26.74 mg/kg for As, 0.00 to 0.84 mg/kg for Hg, 0.03 to 0.69 mg/kg for Cd, 44.32 to 100.09 mg/kg for Pb, 9.85 to 42.19 mg/kg for Cr, 13.38 to 53.72 mg/kg for Cu, and 42.77 to 145.47 mg/kg for Zn. The average concentrations of these metals were found to be below the risk values specified in the "Soil environmental quality (GB15618-2018)", except for As and Cd in three sampling points in Xiaodian District. The heavy metal pollution in these areas can be attributed to various sources, such as industrial activities, the use of fertilizers and pesticides, and the irrigation process. According to the geo-accumulation index, the agricultural soil in the Taiyuan irrigation area was found to be uncontaminated by Zn, Cr, Cu, and As, and lightly contaminated by Cd, Hg, and Pb. The Nemerow Pollution Index indicated that the soil at all sampling points exhibited a slight level of pollution. Moreover, the ecological risk assessment indicated that all heavy metals posed a slight level of pollution. The findings of this study provide a scientific basis for the development of effective policies and measures for soil environmental protection and pollution control.

A growing literature suggests that gene expression can be greatly altered in disease conditions, and identifying those changes will improve the understanding of complex diseases such as cancers or diabetes. A prevailing direction in the analysis of gene expression studies the changes in gene pathways which include sets of related genes. Therefore, introducing structured exploration to differential analysis of gene expression networks may lead to meaningful discoveries. The topic of this paper is differential network analysis, which focuses on capturing the differences between two or more precision matrices. We discuss the connection between the thresholding method and the D-trace loss method on differential network analysis in the case that the precision matrices share the common connected components. Based on this connection, we further propose the cluster D-trace loss method which directly estimates the differential network and achieves model selection consistency. Simulation studies demonstrate its improved performance and computational efficiency. Finally, the usefulness of our proposed estimator is demonstrated by a real-data analysis on non-small cell lung cancer.
