RESUMO
Molecular-based multiferroic materials that possess ferroelectric and ferroelastic orders simultaneously have attracted tremendous attention for their potential applications in multiple-state memory devices, molecular switches, and information storage systems. However, it is still a great challenge to effectively construct novel molecular-based multiferroic materials with multifunctionalities. Generally, the structure of these materials possess high symmetry at high temperatures, while processing an obvious order-disorder or displacement-type ferroelastic or ferroelectric phase transition triggered by symmetry breaking during the cooling processes. Therefore, these materials can only function below the Curie temperature (Tc), the low of which is a severe impediment to their practical application. Despite great efforts to elevate Tc, designing single-phase crystalline materials that exhibit multiferroic orders above room temperature remains a challenge. Here, an inverse temperature symmetry-breaking phenomenon was achieved in [FPM][Fe3(µ3-O)(µ-O2CH)8] (FPM stands for 3-(3-formylamino-propyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidin-1-ium, which acts as the counterions and the rotor component in the network), enabling a ferroelastoelectric phase at a temperature higher than Tc (365 K). Upon heating from room temperature, two-step distinct symmetry breaking with the mm2Fm species leads to the coexistence of ferroelasticity and ferroelectricity in the temperature interval of 365-426 K. In the first step, the FPM cations undergo a conformational flip-induced inverse temperature symmetry breaking; in the second step, a typical ordered-disordered motion-induced symmetry breaking phase transition can be observed, and the abnormal inverse temperature symmetry breaking is unprecedented. Except for the multistep ferroelectric and ferroelastic switching, this complex also exhibits fascinating nonlinear optical switching properties. These discoveries not only signify an important step in designing novel molecular-based multiferroic materials with high working temperatures, but also inspire their multifunctional applications such as multistep switches.

BACKGROUND: Digital histopathology provides valuable information for clinical decision-making. We hypothesized that a deep risk network (DeepRisk) based on digital pathology signature (DPS) derived from whole-slide images could improve the prognostic value of the tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging system and offer chemotherapeutic benefits for gastric cancer (GC). METHODS: DeepRisk is a multi-scale, attention-based learning model developed on 1120 GCs in the Zhongshan dataset and validated with two external datasets. Then, we assessed its association with prognosis and treatment response. The multi-omics analysis and multiplex Immunohistochemistry were conducted to evaluate the potential pathogenesis and spatial immune contexture underlying DPS. RESULTS: Multivariate analysis indicated that the DPS was an independent prognosticator with a better C-index (0.84 for overall survival and 0.71 for disease-free survival). Patients with low-DPS after neoadjuvant chemotherapy responded favorably to treatment. Spatial analysis indicated that exhausted immune clusters and increased infiltration of CD11b+CD11c+ immune cells were present at the invasive margin of high-DPS group. Multi-omics data from the Cancer Genome Atlas-Stomach adenocarcinoma (TCGA-STAD) hint at the relevance of DPS to myeloid derived suppressor cells infiltration and immune suppression. CONCLUSION: DeepRisk network is a reliable tool that enhances prognostic value of TNM staging and aid in precise treatment, providing insights into the underlying pathogenic mechanisms.

Hybrid metal halide materials with charming phase transition behaviors have attracted considerable attention. In former works, much attention has been focused on the phase transition triggered by the order-disorder or displacement motions of the organic component. However, manipulating the variation of the inorganic component to achieve the phase transition has rarely been reported. Herein, two novel organic-inorganic hybrid materials, [THPM]n[AgX2]n (THPM = 3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidin-1-ium, X = I for 1 and Br for 2) with the [AgX2]nn- anionic chain structure, were synthesized. At 293 K, the [AgX2]nn- chains in 1 were constructed by the tetramer units of Ag atoms, while that in 2 was assembled by the dimer structure. Upon heating to 355 K, owing to the variation of the metallophilic interaction between adjacent Ag atoms, a unique transformation process from tetramer to dimer in [AgI2]nn- chains of 1 can be detected and endow 1 with a giant anisotropic thermal expansion with linear strain of â¼7% and shear strain of â¼20%, which can be used as a mechanical actuator for switching. Alternatively, for 2, no phase transition process can be observed upon the temperature variation. This work provides an effective approach to design phase transition materials triggered by the inorganic part.
RESUMO
The magnetoelectric (ME) sensor is a new type of magnetic sensor with ultrahigh sensitivity that suitable for the measurement of low-frequency weak magnetic fields. In this study, a metglas/PZT-5B ME sensor with mechanical resonance frequency fres of 60.041 kHz was prepared. It is interesting to note that its magnetic field resolution reached 0.20 nT at fres and 0.34 nT under a DC field, respectively. In order to measure ultralow-frequency AC magnetic fields, a frequency up-conversion technique was employed. Using this technique, a limit of detection (LOD) under an AC magnetic field lower than 1 nT at 8 Hz was obtained, and the minimum LOD of 0.51 nT was achieved at 20 Hz. The high-resolution ME sensor at the sub-nT level is promising in the field of low-frequency weak magnetic field measurement technology.
RESUMO
Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) are promising for luminescence detection of volatile organic compound (VOC) vapors, but usually suffer from the silent or quenched Ln3+ emission. Herein, we report a new dual-emissive Eu-MOF composed of the coordinatively unsaturated Eu9 clusters that afford abundant open metal sites to form a confined "binding pocket" to facilitate the preconcentration and recognition of VOCs. Single-crystal structural analyses reveal that specific analytes can replace the OH oscillators in the first coordination sphere of Eu3+ and form a unique hydrogen-bonding second-sphere adduct tying adjacent Eu9 clusters together to minimize their nonradiative vibrational decay. With the promoted Eu3+ luminescence, the MOF realizes real-time in situ visual sensing of THF vapor (<1â s) and shows a quantitative ratiometric response to the vapor pressure with a limit of detection down to 17.33â Pa. Also, it represents a top-performing ratiometric luminescent thermometer.

The chemical diversity and structural flexibility of lead halide perovskites (LHPs) offer tremendous opportunities to tune their optical properties through internal molecular engineering and external stimuli. Herein, we report the wide-range and ultrapure photoluminescence emissions in a family of homologous 2D LHPs, [MeOPEA]2 PbBr4-4x I4x (MeOPEA=4-methoxyphenethylammonium; x=0, 0.2, 0.425, 0.575, 1) enabled through internal chemical pressure and external hydrostatic pressure. The chemical pressure, induced by the C-Hâ â â π interactions and halogen doping/substitution strengthens the structural rigidity to give sustained narrow emissions, and regulates the emission energy, respectively. Further manipulation of physical pressure leads to wide-range emission tuning from 412 to 647â nm in a continuous and reversible manner. This work could open up new pathways for developing 2D LHP emitters with ultra-wide color gamut and high color purity which are highly useful for pressure sensing.
RESUMO
In this work, the single crystal to single crystal (SCSC) transformations in three mononuclear copper complexes [CuL22]Cl2·2H2O (1), [CuL12Cl2] (2), and [CuL22]Cl2·4H2O (3) (L1 = di-2-pyridyl ketone, L2 = di(pyridin-2-yl)methanediol) are realized by the irreversible dehydration and hydration reaction of L1 and L2. Dark purple crystal 1 is obtained by self-assembly of L1 and CuCl2·2H2O in solvothermal reactions, in which the carbonyl group of L1 undergoes a hydration addition reaction to form L2. On heating, 1 transforms to 2 by dehydrating water accompanied by the change of the color and coordination octahedron of CuII ions. In a saturated water vapor environment, 2 can absorb six water molecules and transform to 3 with the same color and coordination environment with 1 but different lattice water. The SCSC process from 2 to 3 is reversible: 3 can transform back to 2 on heating like that of 1. Chroma rewritable behaviors in the structural transformation of the complexes make them visually identifiable temperature or water probes.
RESUMO
Despite recent advances in diagnosis and treatment, osteosarcoma remains as the most common bone cancer in children and is associated with poor prognosis. Growing evidence has supported dysregulation of threonine and tyrosine protein kinase (TTK) expression as a hallmark of multiple cancers, however, its function in osteosarcoma remains to be elucidated. In the present study, we found that TTK was frequently overexpressed in osteosarcoma and associated with increased tumour growth and progression. Moreover, using both in vitro and in vivo assays, we provided evidence that TTK level was regulated by a molecular chaperone, heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90). Hsp90 directly interacted with TTK and prevents proteasome-dependent TTK degradation, leading to the accumulation of TTK in osteosarcoma cells. Elevated TTK promoted cancer cell proliferation and survival by activating cell-cycle progression and inhibiting apoptosis. Consistently, depletion of TTK by Hsp90 inhibition induced cell-cycle arrest, generated aneuploidy and eventually resulted in apoptotic cancer cell death. Together, our study revealed an important Hsp90-TTK regulatory axis in osteosarcoma cells to promote cancer cell growth and survival. These findings expand our knowledge on osteosarcoma pathogenesis and offer novel therapeutic options for clinical practice.

Real-time, continuous, and long-term marine monitoring data benefits ocean research. This study developed a low-cost, multi-parameter, miniature wave buoy. High spatial and temporal resolution of sea surface parameters, including wind, waves, and current, can be obtained at low cost through the deployment of numerous buoys, thus forming an observation array. Tested in the laboratory water tank, the relative error of water surface slope measurement of the buoy was approximately 5.6% when the slope angle was less than 15°. For frequencies between 0.1 and 1.0 Hz, the measurement of slope spectrum was almost identical to that of the wave gauge. The buoy underestimated the slope spectrum between 1.0−1.56 Hz. A good relationship (r2 = 0.75) was obtained between wind speed at 10 m above sea surface (U10) and the low-pass-filtered mean square slope (LPMSS). After incorporating the wave age into the U10 inversion process, the root mean square error (RMSE) and BIAS were reduced to 1.15 m/s and 0.02 m/s, respectively. The 2D distribution of buoy-measured slope components was used to detect the wind direction, with an RMSE of 23.7°. The spectral tail slope steepened with increasing wind speed at low wind speeds (<7 m/s). A technical flow chart of the miniature wave buoy is proposed to observe the sea surface parameters. This miniature buoy will play an essential complementary role in the growing demand for sea state monitoring, especially in nearshore oceans.
RESUMO
Developing universal stimuli-responsive materials capable of emitting a broad spectrum of colors is highly desirable. Herein, we deliberately grafted a conformation-adaptable organic chromophore into the established coordination space of a flexible metal-organic framework (MOF). In terms of the coupled structural transformations and the space confinement, the chromophore in the MOF matrix underwent well-regulated conformational changes under physical and chemical stimuli, simultaneously displaying thermo-, piezo-, and solvato-fluoro-chromism with color tunability over the visible range. Owing to the resilient nature and the reduced dimensionality of the selected coordination space, all three color modulations behaved in a sensitive and self-reversible manner, each following a linear correlation of the emission maximum with stimulus. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction of the variable-temperature structures and solvent-inclusion crystals elucidated the intricate color varying mechanisms.
RESUMO
The increase in the number of people suffering diabetes has been the driving force behind the development of glucose sensors to overcome the current testing shortcomings. In this work, a reusable, non-invasive and ultrafast radio frequency biosensor based on optimized integrated passive device fabrication process for quantitative detection of glucose level was developed. With the aid of the novel biosensor design with hammer-shaped capacitors for carrying out detection, both the resonance frequency and magnitude of reflection coefficient can be applied to map the different glucose levels. Meanwhile, the corresponding fabrication process was developed, providing an approach for achieving quantitative detection and a structure without metal-insulator-metal type capacitor that realizes low cost and high reliability. To enhance the sensitivity of biosensor, a 3-min dry etching treatment based on chlorine/argon-based plasma was implemented for realizing hydrophilicity of capacitor surface to ensure that the biosensor can be touched rapidly with glucose. Based on above implementation, a non-invasive biosensor having an ultrafast response time of superior to 0.85 s, ultralow LOD of 8.01 mg/dL and excellent reusability verified through five sets of measurements are realized. The proposed approaches are not limited the development of a stable and accurate platform for the detection of glucose levels but also presents a scheme toward the detection of glucose levels in human serum.

Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) is a common pathophysiological mechanism that underlies cognitive decline and degenerative processes in dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. Low cerebral blood flow (CBF) during CCH leads to disturbances in the homeostasis of hemodynamics and energy metabolism, which in turn results in oxidative stress, astroglia overactivation, and synaptic protein downregulation. These events contribute to synaptic plasticity and cognitive dysfunction after CCH. Tripchlorolide (TRC) is an herbal compound with potent neuroprotective effects. The potential of TRC to improve CCH-induced cognitive impairment has not yet been determined. In the current study, we employed behavioral techniques, electrophysiology, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and Golgi staining to investigate the effect of TRC on spatial learning and memory impairment and on synaptic plasticity changes in rats after CCH. Our findings showed that TRC could rescue CCH-induced spatial learning and memory dysfunction and improve long-term potentiation (LTP) disorders. We also found that TRC could prevent CCH-induced reductions in N-methyl-D-aspartic acid receptor 2B, synapsin I, and postsynaptic density protein 95 levels. Moreover, TRC upregulated cAMP-response element binding protein, which is an important transcription factor for synaptic proteins. TRC also prevented the reduction in dendritic spine density that is caused by CCH. However, sham rats treated with TRC did not show any improvement in cognition. Because CCH causes disturbances in brain energy homeostasis, TRC therapy may resolve this instability by correcting a variety of cognitive-related signaling pathways. However, for the normal brain, TRC treatment led to neither disturbance nor improvement in neural plasticity. Additionally, this treatment neither impaired nor further improved cognition. In conclusion, we found that TRC can improve spatial learning and memory, enhance synaptic plasticity, upregulate the expression of some synaptic proteins, and increase the density of dendritic spines. Our findings suggest that TRC may be beneficial in the treatment of cognitive impairment induced by CCH.

We herein report a new coordination network that deforms in a smooth and reversible manner under either thermal or pressure stimulation. Concomitantly, the organic fluorophores coordinatively bound to the channel in a face-to-face arrangement respond to this structural deformation by finely adapting their conformation and arrangement. As a result, the material exhibits a remarkable dual-stimuli-responsive luminescence shift across almost the entire visible region: The emission color of the crystal gradually changes from cyan to green upon heating and then to red upon pressure compression. Furthermore, each stage exhibits a linear dependence of both the emission maximum and intensity on the stimulus and is fully reversible.
RESUMO
A new luminescent ZnII -MOF with 1D triangular channels along the b axis, namely NUM-5, has been successfully assembled and well characterized, which features good stability, especially in aqueous solution. Interestingly, this compound exhibits a fast, sensitive and selective luminescence quenching response towards CrVI (Cr2 O72- /CrO42- ) in aqueous solution. The detection limits towards Cr2 O72- and CrO42- ions are estimated to be 0.7 and 0.3â ppm, respectively, which are among the lowest detection limits reported for the MOF-based fluorescent probes that can simultaneously detect Cr2 O72- and CrO42- in aqueous environment. The possible detection mechanism has been discussed in detail. Moreover, it can be easily regenerated after detection experiments, indicative of excellent recyclability. All these results suggest NUM-5 to be a highly selective and recyclable luminescent sensing material for the quantitative detection of CrVI anions in aqueous solution.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: This study aims to establish a radiomics analysis system for the diagnosis and clinical behaviour prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) based on multi-parametric ultrasound imaging. METHODS: A total of 177 patients with focal liver lesions (FLLs) were included in the study. Every patient underwent multi-modal ultrasound examination, including B-mode ultrasound (BMUS), shear wave elastography (SWE), and shear wave viscosity (SWV) imaging. The radiomics analysis system was built on sparse representation theory (SRT) and support vector machine (SVM) for asymmetric data. Through the sparse regulation from the SRT, the proposed radiomics system can effectively avoid over-fitting issues that occur in regular radiomics analysis. The purpose of the proposed system includes differential diagnosis between benign and malignant FLLs, pathologic diagnosis of HCC, and clinical prognostic prediction. Three biomarkers, including programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1), antigen Ki-67 (Ki-67) and microvascular invasion (MVI), were included and analysed. We calculated the accuracy (ACC), sensitivity (SENS), specificity (SPEC) and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) to evaluate the performance of the radiomics models. RESULTS: A total of 2560 features were extracted from the multi-modal ultrasound images for each patient. Five radiomics models were built, and leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV) was used to evaluate the models. In LOOCV, the AUC was 0.94 for benign and malignant classification (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.88 to 0.98), 0.97 for malignant subtyping (95% CI: 0.93 to 0.99), 0.97 for PD-1 prediction (95% CI: 0.89 to 0.98), 0.94 for Ki-67 prediction (95% CI: 0.87 to 0.97), and 0.98 for MVI prediction (95% CI: 0.93 to 0.99). The performance of each model improved when the viscosity modality was included. CONCLUSIONS: Radiomics analysis based on multi-modal ultrasound images could aid in comprehensive liver tumor evaluations, including diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and clinical prognosis.

Neuroinflammation and oxidative stress play an important role in cognition deficit following chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH). Luteolin, a natural flavonoid found in many plants, is known for a variety of pharmacological activities, such as its anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, urate, anti-tumor, antibacterial, and antiviral effects. To assess whether luteolin could prevent CCH-induced cognitive dysfunction, through its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative-stress effects, we used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, enzyme activity assays, behavioral methods, immunohistochemistry, and electrophysiology to detect neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, cognition alterations, and long-term potential (LTP), in a bilateral common carotid arteries ligation (2VO) rat model. We demonstrated that CCH increased tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), interleukin 1ß (IL-1ß), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and malondialdehyde (MDA), and decreased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) levels. Further, it caused microglia over-activation and astrogliosis, learning and short-term memory dysfunction, and an LTP deficit. Luteolin treatment reversed CCH-induced changes. Specifically, luteolin prevented the increase of TNF-α and IL-1ß, IL-6, and MDA, improved the activity of SOD and GPx, inhibited microglia over-activation and astrogliosis (particularly in the hippocampus and cortex), and ameliorated learning and short-term memory dysfunction, and LTP deficit. Thus, our study suggested that luteolin could be a preferable anti-inflammatory agent to protect cognitive function and synaptic plasticity following CCH. Luteolin could also be putative therapeutic candidate for other inflammation-related brain diseases.

We present a microfabricated spiral-coupled passive resonator sensor realized through integrated passive device (IPD) technology for the sensitive detection and characterization of water-ethanol solutions. In order to validate the performance of the proposed device, we explicitly measured and analyzed the radio frequency (RF) characteristics of various water-ethanol solution compositions. The measured results showed a drift in the resonance frequency from 1.16 GHz for deionized (DI) water to 1.68 GHz for the solution containing 50% ethanol, whereas the rejection level given by the reflection coefficient decreased from -29.74 dB to -14.81 dB. The obtained limit of detection was 3.82% volume composition of ethanol in solution. The derived loaded capacitance was 21.76 pF for DI water, which gradually decreased to 8.70 pF for the 50% ethanol solution, and the corresponding relative permittivity of the solution decreased from 80.14 to 47.79. The dissipation factor increased with the concentration of ethanol in the solution. We demonstrated the reproducibility of the proposed sensor through iterative measures of the samples and the study of surface morphology. Successive measurement of different samples had no overlapping and had very minimum bias between RF characteristics for each measured sample. The surface profile for bare sensors was retained after the sample test, resulting a root mean square (RMS) value of 11.416 nm as compared to 10.902 nm for the bare test. The proposed sensor was shown to be a viable alternative to existing sensors for highly sensitive water-ethanol concentration detection.
RESUMO
In the present study, we collected valence, arousal, concreteness, familiarity, imageability, and context availability ratings for a total of 1,100 Chinese words. The ratings for all variables were collected with 9-point Likert scales. We tested the reliability of the present database by comparing it to the extant Chinese Affective Word System, and performed split-half correlations for all six variables. We then evaluated the relationships between all variables. Regarding the affective variables, we found a typical quadratic relation between valence and arousal, in line with previous findings. Likewise, significant correlations were found between the semantic variables. Importantly, we explored the relationships between ratings for the affective variables (i.e., valence and arousal) and concreteness ratings, suggesting that valence and arousal ratings can predict concreteness ratings. This database of affective norms will be a valuable source of information for emotion research that makes use of Chinese words, and will enable researchers to use highly controlled Chinese verbal stimuli to more reliably investigate the relation between cognition and emotion.

Water instability is a crucial limiting factor in the practical application of most fluorescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Here, by introducing a fascinating double-helical structure generated through dense stacking of organic ligands, a water-stable fluorescence MOF has been synthesized, namely, [Cd2(tib)2(bda)2]·(solvent)n (1) [tib =1,3,5-tris(1-imidazolyl) benzene; H2bda = 2,2'-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid]. This helical structure helps to enhance the stability of 1 against common organic solvents and water, even acid/base aqueous solutions with a pH value ranging from 3 to 11. Furthermore, this material can be a potential fluorescent sensor for ketones.
RESUMO
Reflection type subtractive tri-color filters, enabling metal-thickness tolerant high color saturation, were proposed and demonstrated capitalizing on a nanoporous metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) resonant structure, which comprises a cavity made of self-assembled nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO), sandwiched between an Al film of the same nanoporous configuration and a highly reflective aluminum (Al) substrate. For the proposed filter, the output color was easily determined by controlling the resonance wavelength via the thickness of the porous AAO cavity. In particular, the spectral response was deemed to exhibit a near-zero resonant dip, thereby achieving enhanced color saturation, which was stably maintained irrespective of the thickness of the porous Al film, due to its reduced effective refractive index. In order to manufacture the proposed color filters on a large scale, a porous Al film of hexagonal lattice configuration was integrated with an identically porous self-assembled AAO layer, which has been grown on an Al substrate. For the realized tri-color filters for cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY), having a 15-nm Al film, near-zero reflection dips were observed to be centered at the wavelengths of 436, 500, and 600 nm, respectively. The resulting enhanced color saturation was stably maintained even though the variations were as large as 10 nm in the metal thickness.
