RESUMO

A suspended polymer rod grating is fabricated on a fiber end for highly sensitive ultrasonic detection. Initially, the uniform polymer waveguide is prepared via the interconnection of holey fibers and the photopolymerization of an ultraviolet glue. A femtosecond laser point-by-point technique is then employed to form periodic grating structures inside the customized waveguide. A final uncovered micro-rod is achieved based on different corrosion resistances of the polymer waveguide and the fiber cladding. The polymer rod presents uniform morphology and controllable size with the support of the constructed air-hole microchannel. The self-alignment and the self-adhesion between the polymer waveguide and the fiber core contribute to the stable efficient optical coupling at the fiber-to-polymer joint. When applied to ultrasonic waves, the decreased size and low Young's modulus of the suspended rod provide benefits for the interaction between the polymer grating and the ultrasound strain. This sensor exhibits a noise equivalent pressure of 33 Pa and -10 d B bandwidth of 7.6 MHz. After packing with a waterproof adhesive, the polymer rod shows sufficient robustness for long-term operation. This Letter proposes a new, to the best of our knowledge, strategy for the fabrication of advanced polymer probes in multifunctional sensing.

RESUMO

A micro ultrasonic sensor based on an advanced suspended-core fiber is proposed and employed for in-lab seismic physical modeling. A free suspended core is obtained by acid corrosion and two cascaded uniform fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are imprinted in the suspended-core fiber. The sensor response and stability are largely improved due to the using of dual-FBG reflectors instead of weak-reflection fiber mirrors for constructing an in-fiber interferometer. The characteristics of reflection spectra and ultrasonic response of the sensor are analyzed and demonstrated experimentally. Comparative measurements are also carried out to prove the sensor superiority over the conventional weak-reflection one. Moreover, the sensor is used for seismic physical modeling to show its ability of practicable usage. Both the crosswell seismic and surface seismic in seismic exploration are modeled respectively based on reservoir and fault models. Various reservoir velocities are measured and each is consistent with the reported results. The fault features are also well reconstructed in the form of a cross-section model image. The improved sensor approach greatly promotes the application of the suspended-core fiber for weak acoustic detection in seismic physical modeling.

BACKGROUND: The "Assessment of Motor Repertoire-3 to 5 Months", which is a part of Prechtl's General Movements Assessment (GMA), has been gradually applied to infants with genetic metabolic disorders. However, there have been no studies on the application of the GMA for infants with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). AIMS: The purpose of this study was to determine the inter- and intra-observer reliability of the assessment tool in a population of infants with PWS. STUDY DESIGN: This was a reliability and agreement study. SUBJECTS: This was a cross-sectional study with15 infants with PWS born at an average gestational age of 38 weeks. OUTCOME MEASURES: Standardized video recordings of 15 infants with PWS (corrected ages of 3 to 5 months) were independently assessed by three observers. Kappa and ICC statistics were applied in inter- and intra- observer reliability analyses. RESULTS: The overall reliability ICC values of the "Motor Optimality Score" (MOS) ranged from 0.84 to 0.98, and the pairwise agreement ranged between 0.86 and 0.95 for inter- observe reliability. In addition, ICC values for the MOS ranged between 0.95 and 0.98 for tester agreement in intra-observer reliability. Complete agreement reliability (100%) was achieved in the subcategories of "Fidgety Movements" and "Movement Character" for the inter- and intra-observer reliability. Moderate to high inter- and intra-observer reliability were found in the subcategories of "Repertoire of Co-Existent Other Movements", "Quality of Other Movements" and "Posture", with kappa values ranging between 0.63 and 1.00. CONCLUSION: There were high levels of inter-and intra-observer agreement in the "Assessment of Motor Repertoire-3 to 5 Months" for infants with PWS. It is possible to carry out standardized quantitative assessments of the motor performance of infants with PWS.

Pinus massoniana is a pioneer species for afforestation timber and oleoresin, while epidemics of pinewood nematode (PWN; Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) are causing a serious biotic disaster for P. massoniana in China. Importantly, resistant P. massoniana could leak copious oleoresin terpenoids to build particular defense fronts for survival when attacked by PWN. However, the defense mechanisms regulating this process remain unknown. Here, PmCYP720B11v2, a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase gene, was first identified and functionally characterized from resistant P. massoniana following PWN inoculation. The tissue-specific expression pattern and localization of PmCYP720B11v2 at the transcript and protein levels in resistant P. massoniana indicated that its upregulation in the stem supported its involvement in the metabolic processes of diterpene biosynthesis as a positive part of the defense against PWN attack. Furthermore, overexpression of PmCYP720B11v2 may enhance the growth and development of plants. In addition, PmCYP720B11v2 activated the metabolic flux of antioxidases and stress-responsive proteins under drought conditions and improved drought stress tolerance. Our results provide new insights into the favorable role of PmCYP720B11v2 in diterpene defense mechanisms in response to PWN attack in resistant P. massoniana and provide a novel metabolic engineering scenario to reform the stress tolerance potential of tobacco.

Neoantigens are T-cell antigens derived from protein-coding mutations in tumor cells. Although neoantigens have recently been linked to anti-tumor immunity in long-term survivors of cancers such as melanoma, their prognostic and immune-modulatory role in many cancer types remain unexplored. We investigate neoantigens in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through a combination of whole exome sequencing (WES), RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), computational bioinformation, and immunohistochemistry. Our analysis reveals that patients carried with TP53 neoantigen have a longer overall survival than others (p = 0.0371) and they showed higher Immune score (p = 0.0441), higher cytotoxic lymphocytes infiltration (p = 0.0428), and higher CYT score (p = 0.0388). In contrast, the prognosis is not associated with TMB and neoantigen load. Our study draws a preliminary conclusion that it is not TMB or neoantigen load but the TP53 specific neoantigen is related to overall survival of HCC patients. We suggest that the TP53 neoantigen may affect prognosis by regulating anti-tumor immunity and that the TP53 neoantigen may be harnessed as potential targets for immunotherapies of HCC.

tert-Butyl (3R,5S)-6-chloro-3,5-dihydroxyhexanoate ((3R,5S)-CDHH) is a key chiral intermediate for the side chain synthesis of rosuvastatin. In this study, random mutagenesis, site-saturation mutagenesis and combinatorial mutagenesis methods were applied to improve the activity of a synthesized stereoselective short chain carbonyl reductase (SCR) to prepare (3R,5S)-CDHH. After screened by high-throughput screening method and high-performance liquid chromatography, mut-Phe145Met/Thr152Ser and mut-Phe145Tyr/Thr152Ser, were obtained, and the enzyme activities of mutants were improved by 1.60- and 1.91-fold compared with parent enzyme, respectively. The catalytically efficiencies (kcat/Km) of mut-Phe145Met/Thr152Ser and mut-Phe145Tyr/Thr152Ser exhibited 5.11- and 8.07-fold improvements in initial activity toward (S)-6-chloro-5-hydroxy-3-oxohexanoate ((S)-CHOH), respectively. In the asymmetric reduction, mut-Phe145Tyr/Thr152Ser catalyzed 500 g L-1 of (S)-CHOH to produce (3R,5S)-CDHH with >99% yield and >99% e.e., and the highest space-time yield achieved at 752.76 mmol L-1 h-1 g-1 wet cell weight within 8 h bioconversion. This study provides a foundation for the preparation of (3R,5S)-CDHH by carbonyl reductase.

L-methionine has attracted a great deal of attention for its nutritional, pharmaceutical, and clinical applications. In this study, Escherichia coli W3110 was engineered via deletion of a negative transcriptional regulator MetJ and over-expression of homoserine O-succinyltransferase MetA together with efflux transporter YjeH, resulting in L-methionine overproduction which is up to 413.16 mg/L. The partial inactivation of the L-methionine import system MetD via disruption of metI made the engineered E. coli ΔmetJ ΔmetI/pTrcA*H more tolerant to high L-ethionine concentration and accumulated L-methionine to a level 43.65% higher than that of E. coli W3110 ΔmetJ/pTrcA*H. Furthermore, deletion of lysA, which blocks the lysine biosynthesis pathway, led to a further 8.5-fold increase in L-methionine titer of E. coli ΔmetJ ΔmetI ΔlysA/pTrcA*H. Finally, addition of Na2 S2 O3 to the media led to an increase of fermentation titer of 11.45%. After optimization, constructed E. coli ΔmetJ ΔmetI ΔlysA/pTrcA*H was able to produce 9.75 g/L L-methionine with productivity of 0.20 g/L/h in a 5 L bioreactor. RESUMO

Alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs), which belong to the oxidoreductase superfamily, catalyze the interconversion between alcohols and aldehydes or ketones with high stereoselectivity under mild conditions. ADHs are widely employed as biocatalysts for the dynamic kinetic resolution of racemic substrates and for the preparation of enantiomerically pure chemicals. This review provides an overview of biotechnological applications for ADHs in the production of chiral pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals.

RAS mutations occur in approximately 30% of tumors worldwide and have a poor prognosis due to limited therapies. Covalent targeting of KRAS G12C has achieved significant success in recent years, but there is still a lack of efficient therapeutic approaches for tumors with non-G12C KRAS mutations. A highly promising approach is to target the MAPK pathway downstream of RAS, with a particular focus on RAF kinases. First-generation RAF inhibitors have been authorized to treat BRAF mutant tumors for over a decade. However, their use in RAS-mutated tumors is not recommended due to the paradoxical ERK activation mainly caused by RAF dimerization. To address the issue of RAF dimerization, type II RAF inhibitors have emerged as leading candidates. Recent clinical studies have shown the initial effectiveness of these agents against RAS mutant tumors. Promisingly, type II RAF inhibitors in combination with MEK or ERK inhibitors have demonstrated impressive efficacy in RAS mutant tumors. This review aims to clarify the importance of RAF dimerization in cellular signaling and resistance to treatment in tumors with RAS mutations, as well as recent progress in therapeutic approaches to address the problem of RAF dimerization in RAS mutant tumors.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the most serious neurodegenerative diseases with no effective treatment options available. The formation of insoluble amyloid fibrils of the hyperphosphorylated tau protein is intimately associated with AD, hence the tau protein has been a key target for AD drug development. In this work, hematoxylin was discovered as a dual functional compound, that is, acting in the inhibition of repeat domain of tau (tau-RD) protein fibrillogenesis and remodeling of pre-formed tau-RD fibrils in vitro. Meanwhile, hematoxylin was able to reduce the accumulation of tau-RD aggregates in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Experimental and computational studies indicated that hematoxylin directly interacts with tau-RD protein through hydrophobic forces, hydrogen bonds, π-cation interactions, and π-π stackings. In addition, cellular viability assays showed that hematoxylin greatly reduced cytotoxicity induced by tau-RD aggregates. In summary, hematoxylin might be a promising candidate for further development as a potential therapeutic drug for AD patients.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is highly associated with self-aggregation of amyloid ß (Aß) proteins into fibrils. Inhibition of Aß aggregation by polyphenols is one of the major therapeutic strategies for AD. Among them, four polyphenols (brazilin, resveratrol, hematoxylin, and rosmarinic acid) have been reported to be effective at inhibiting Aß aggregation, but the inhibition mechanisms are still unclear. In this work, these four polyphenols were selected to explore their interactions with the Aß17-42 pentamer by molecular dynamics simulation. All four polyphenols can bind to the pentamer tightly but prefer different binding sites. Conversion of the ß-sheet to the random coil, fewer interchain hydrogen bonds, and weaker salt bridges were observed after binding. Interestingly, different Aß17-42 pentamer destabilizing mechanisms for resveratrol and hematoxylin were found. Resveratrol inserts into the hydrophobic core of the pentamer by forming hydrogen bonds with Asp23 and Lys28, while hematoxylin prefers to bind beside chain A of the pentamer, which leads to ß-sheet offset and dissociation of the ß1 sheet of chain E. This work reveals the interactions between the Aß17-42 pentamer and four polyphenols and discusses the relationship between inhibitor structures and their inhibition mechanisms, which also provides useful guidance for screening effective Aß aggregation inhibitors and drug design against AD.

INTRODUCTION: Very preterm (VPT) infants may experience varying degrees of neurodevelopmental challenges. Lack of early markers for neurodevelopmental disorders may delay referral to early interventions. The detailed General Movements Assessment (GMA) could help us to identify early markers for VPT infants at risk of atypical neurodevelopmental clinical phenotype in the very early stage of life as soon as possible. Preterm infants with high risk of atypical neurodevelopmental outcomes will have the best possible start to life if early precise intervention in critical developmental windows is allowed. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This is a nationwide, multicentric prospective cohort study that will recruit 577 infants born <32 weeks of age. This study will determine the diagnostic value of the developmental trajectory of general movements (GMs) at writhing and fidgety age with qualitative assessment for different atypical developmental outcomes at 2 years evaluated by the Griffiths Development Scales-Chinese. The difference in the General Movement Optimality Score (GMOS) will be used to distinguish normal (N), poor repertoire (PR) and cramped sychronised (CS) GMs. We plan to build the percentile rank of GMOS (median, 10th, 25th, 75th and 90th percentile rank) in N, PR and CS of each global GM category and analyse the relationship between GMOS in writhing movements and Motor Optimality Score (MOS) in fidgety movements based on the detailed GMA. We explore the subcategories of the GMOS list, and MOS list that may identify specific early markers that help us to identify and predict different clinical phenotypes and functional outcomes in VPT infants. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The central ethical approval has been confirmed from the Research Ethical Board of Children's Hospital of Fudan University (ref approval no. 2022(029)) and the local ethical approval has been also obtained by the corresponding ethics committees of the recruitment sites. Critical analysis of the study results will contribute to providing a basis for hierarchical management and precise intervention for preterm infants in very early life. Plant-derived sesquiterpene lactones are promising natural sources for the discovery of anti-cancer drugs. As an extensively studied sesquiterpene lactone, the tumor suppression effect of parthenolide (PTL) has been clarified by targeting a number of prominent signaling pathways and key protein regulators in carcinogenesis. Notably, PTL was also the first small molecule reported to eradicate cancer stem cells. Nevertheless, the clinical application of PTL as an antitumor agent remains limited, owing to some disadvantages such as low water solubility and poor bioavailability. Thus, nanomedicine has attracted much interest because of its great potential for transporting poorly soluble drugs to desired body sites. In view of the significant advantages over their free small-molecule counterparts, nanoparticle delivery systems appear to be a potential solution for addressing the delivery of hydrophobic drugs, including PTL. In this review, we summarized the key anticancer mechanisms underlined by PTL as well as engineered PTL nanoparticles synthesized to date. Therefore, PTL nanoformulations could be an alternative strategy to maximize the therapeutic value of PTL.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify predictive factors for lymph node metastasis (LNM) in pT1 stage colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Methods: From the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, 2,697 consecutive pT1 stage patients who underwent surgical resection were retrospectively reviewed. Predictive factors for LNM were identified by the univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. The Kaplan-Meier curves and multivariate Cox regression analysis were used to evaluate the relationships between LNM and overall survival (OS) as well as cancer specific survival (CSS) of pT1 stage CRC patients. Results: The prevalence of LNM in pT1 stage CRC patients was 15.2% (410/2,697). Patient age <60 years (OR:1.869, 95% CI: 1.505-2.321, p < 0.001), poorly differentiated or mucinous or signet ring cell adenocarcinoma (OR:2.075, 95% CI: 1.584-2.717, p < 0.001), elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level (OR:1.343, 95% CI: 1.022-1.763, p = 0.033) and perineural invasion (PNI) (OR:6.212, 95% CI: 3.502-11.017, p < 0.001) were significantly associated with LNM in pT1 stage patients. The survival analysis demonstrated that pT1 stage patients with LNM had a worse OS (5-year OS: 82.2% vs 88.7%, p = 0.020) and CSS (5-year CSS: 74.9% vs 81.5%, p = 0.041) than those without lymph node metastasis. Lymph node metastasis was an independent predictor of poor OS (HR: 1.543, 95% CI: 1.156-2.060, p = 0.003) and CSS (HR: 1.614, 95% CI: 1.121-2.324, p = 0.010) for pT1 stage colorectal cancer patients. Conclusion: Age, differentiation type, CEA level and perineural invasion were independent predictive factors for LNM in pT1 stage CRC patients. These findings might provide further risk stratification for pT1 stage patients and help clinicians identify high-risk individuals.

Silicon (Si) anode is the most promising alternative for next generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to large theoretical capacity, low working voltage and abundant natural resources. However, tremendous volume change of Si during the (de)lithiation processes causes repetitive formation of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers, loss of electrical contact and electrodes pulverization, limiting its commercial application. Herein, we fabricate an interconnected hollow Si-C nanospheres/graphite composite via a facile and scalable approach. Notably, hollow Si-C nanospheres and graphite are homogeneously combined by using the surfactants as surface modifiers of graphite and introducing carbon dioxide (CO2) into magnesiothermic reduction reaction, resulting in the enhanced compatibility between hollow Si-C nanospheres and graphite, and the well-established electrical conductive network. The resultant Si-C nanospheres/graphite composite anode with carbon content of 59 wt% delivers a large reversible specific capacity of 662 mAh g-1 and a high capacity retention of 65.7% at 0.5 A g-1 after 200 cycles. Such excellent rate performance and superior cycling performance are attributed to high electrical conductivity and buffering effect of graphite, superior compatibility between hollow Si-C spheres and graphite, uniform distribution of both Si-C nanospheres with a unique hollow architecture and graphite flakes inside the composites and well-established interconnected electrical conductive carbon networks, which can effectively alleviate Si volume expansion and maintain good electrical contact during cycling. This strategy provides insights into designing Si-based anodes for practical LIBs.

Incorporating a DNA-binding fragment in HDAC inhibitors has been proved to be an effective strategy for the treatment of hematologic malignancies by our group. However, similar to other approved HDAC inhibitors, their effects on solid tumor were poor. For this issue, a series of 2,5-diphenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole hydroxamate derivatives were designed and synthesized as the HDAC inhibitors with DNA binding affinity. Among the target compounds, 4j not only bound with DNA effectively but also exhibited the most potent inhibitory activity against HDAC1 with the IC50 of 15 nM. Compared to SAHA, compound 4j displayed stronger antiproliferative activity in tested tumor cell lines. Western blot analysis showed that 4j could enhance the acetylation of histone H3 and α-tubulin, as well as promote the activation of caspase 3 in HCT116 and MC38 cell lines. Furthermore, these responses resulted in significant suppression of tumor growth in the MC38 tumor model. This work validated that compound 4j was a promising lead compound for further structural optimization.

AIMS/INTRODUCTION: Metals play an important role in diabetes mellitus. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the overall, individual and interactive effects of multi-metal exposure on the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, impaired fasting glucose (IFG) rate and fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The FBG levels of a study population from a cadmium (Cd)-polluted area (n = 250) and an unpolluted area (n = 204), and the metal levels, including magnesium, calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), Cd, copper and lead (Pb) in blood and urine were detected. The study population was divided into a normal fasting glucose group, an IFG group and a diabetes mellitus group on the basis of FBG levels. RESULTS: The IFG rate and diabetes mellitus prevalence were negatively associated with blood Cd and urine Zn levels (IFG rate: odds ratio [OR] 0.780, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.655-0.928; OR 0.622, 95% CI 0.465-0.831. Diabetes mellitus prevalence: OR 0.506, 95% CI 0.288-0.888; OR 0.609, 95% CI 0.395-0.939), the IFG rate was positively associated with urine Fe levels (OR 1.876, 95% CI 1.290-2.778), and diabetes mellitus prevalence was positively associated with urine Pb and blood Fe levels (OR 1.185, 95% CI 1.022-1.376; OR 1.008, 95% CI 1.001-1.014). A linear negative correlation was observed between FBG levels and blood Cd, and non-linear inverted U-shaped associations were found between FBG levels and Zn, Pb and copper in urine. CONCLUSIONS: This research suggests that multi-metal exposure, especially Cd, Fe, Zn, copper and Pb, is linked to diabetes mellitus, and the interactive effects of multiple metals require further exploration.

In this study, changes of carotenoids in breast milk were observed longitudinally for up to one year. Our study aimed to analyze the profile of carotenoids in breast milk and maternal/cord plasma and its correlation with dietary intake in Guangzhou. Plasma and breast milk samples of five stages during lactation (i.e., colostrum; transitional milk; and early, medium, and late mature milk) were collected from lactating mothers. The food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used for collecting data on dietary intake in the corresponding stages. Levels of lutein, zeaxanthin, ß-cryptoxanthin, ß-carotene, and lycopene were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography. We found that the total carotenoid level decreased gradually with the extension of lactation and eventually stabilized. Among them, the content of lutein increased from colostrum to transitional milk and decreased thereafter until it plateaued in the mature milk. Furthermore, lutein was reported as the dominant nutrient in maternal plasma, cord plasma, transitional milk, and mature milk at up to 400 days postpartum, while beta-carotene was predominant in colostrum. The content of ß-carotenoid in middle and late mature breast milk was related to dietary intake (r = 1.690, p < 0.05). Carotenoid level in cord blood was lower than that in the mother's plasma and was related to the carotenoid intake in the mother's diet. Correlation of carotenoids between maternal and umbilical cord blood, breast milk, and maternal blood could well reflect the transport of carotenoids. These findings may help to guide mothers' diets during breastfeeding.

AIM: To explore whether the General Movement Optimality Score (GMOS) could help to identify asymmetric movement in infants with neonatal arterial ischemic stroke (NAIS) in the early stage. METHOD: Twenty-seven infants with NAIS (16 males, 11 females) were enrolled. The general movement video was recorded approximately one month after birth. The GMOS focused separately on the neck and trunk and the upper and lower extremities. The differences between the ipsilesional and contralesional limbs were analyzed. RESULTS: Eight infants who developed cerebral palsy (CP) had middle cerebral artery (MCA) infarction involving the main branch. By GMOS evaluation, the scores of the contralesional upper and/or lower limbs were lower than those of the ipsilesional side (p < 0.05). In the contralesional limbs, the CP group had a lower GMOS than the non-CP group. Distal rotatory components of the contralesional upper limbs and tremulous movement of the lower limbs showed significant differences. INTERPRETATION: The GMOS could help to quantitatively find and assess the asymmetric movement of global and contralesional limbs. Distal rotatory movement of the upper limbs could be an early sign of abnormal motor function in infants with NAIS.

AIM: To detect early brain structural and clinical functional markers of brain injury and development based on a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scoring system and a general movement assessment (GMA) for preterm infants later diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP). STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. General movements (GMs) were scored according to a semiquantitative scoring system: the GMs optimality score (GMOS) at preterm and term ages and the Motor Optimality Score (MOS) at the corrected age of 3 months after birth. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at term-equivalent age was scored using an MRI scoring system. We analyzed the relationship between the early degree of cerebral white matter (WM) abnormality and the GMOS and the MOS for infants born <32 weeks gestational age later diagnosed with CP in a comparison group of neurotypical controls. SUBJECTS: Sixteen preterm infants were included in this study who underwent MRI and GMs assessment. 8 out of the 16 preterm infants were later diagnosed with CP, while the other 8 infants with normal motor development (N) were placed into the control group. Their median gestational age was 30w6d and 27w6d for each group respectively. RESULTS: The cerebral WM MRI scores were significantly higher in the CP group than in the control group (p < 0.01). The GMOS and MOS were significantly higher in the control group than in the CP group (p < 0.05). The MOS showed a strong correlation to the cerebral WM MRI score (r = -0.88) and the subscale of cerebral WM items (the cystic degeneration and the focal signal abnormalities) of the MRI score (r = -0.94) in the CP group. The MOS also showed a correlation with corrected biparietal diameter (cBPD) in the preterm infant group with CP (r = 0.75). Results of linear regression analyses between term MRI and GMs measures in preterm infants with CP are presented. Cerebral WM scores were associated with the MOS (ß = -0.63; 95%CI = -0.97, -0.29; p < 0.01). Cerebral WM injury, including the subscale of cystic degeneration and focal signal abnormalities was closely associated with the MOS (ß = -0.83; 95%CI = -1.13, -0.54; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Cerebral WM scores show a strong association with a decreased motor performance on the MOS in preterm infants later diagnosed with CP. Severe white matter injury and significantly decreased MOS scores may provide useful early markers and strong evidence to early predict the risk of later development of cerebral palsy in preterm infants.
