RESUMO

Recent neuroscience studies have suggested that cognitive functions and learning capacity are reflected in the time-evolving dynamics of brain networks. However, an efficient method to detect changes in dynamical brain structures using neural data has yet to be established. To address this issue, we developed a new model-based approach to detect change points in dynamical network structures by combining the model-based network estimation with a phase-coupled oscillator model and sequential Bayesian inference. By giving the model parameter as the prior distribution, applying Bayesian inference allows the extent of temporal changes in dynamic brain networks to be quantified by comparing the prior distribution with the posterior distribution using information theoretical criteria. For this, we used the Kullback-Leibler divergence as an index of such changes. To validate our method, we applied it to numerical data and electroencephalography data. As a result, we confirmed that the Kullback-Leibler divergence only increased when changes in dynamical network structures occurred. Our proposed method successfully estimated both directed network couplings and change points of dynamical structures in the numerical and electroencephalography data. These results suggest that our proposed method can reveal the neural basis of dynamic brain networks.

RESUMO

A new microsporidian disease of cultured rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss has recently been confirmed in Japan, and the causative species was tentatively designated as Microsporidium sp. RBT-2021. Involvement of common prawn Palaemon paucidens in its transmission was suggested based on the previous feeding trials, although the microsporidian infection in P. paucidens was not confirmed. In this study, P. paucidens in Lake Biwa, Japan was investigated for microsporidian infection and 4 types of spores (types 1-4) were newly found. The nucleotide sequence of the small subunit ribosomal RNA gene was identical between type 1 and Microsporidium sp. RBT-2021, indicating they are conspecific. However, intriguingly, the spore morphology and the mode of development in fish and prawn were strikingly different. Morphological observations revealed type 1 in the prawn possesses characteristics of the genus Inodosporus Overstreet and Weidner, 1974, while Microsporidium sp. RBT-2021 in the trout exhibited the characteristics of the genus Kabatana Lom, Dyková and Tonguthai, 2000. In the phylogeny, type 1 was placed within a clade comprising Kabatana spp. and Inodosporus octosporus. Based on the morphological and molecular analyses, we describe Microsporidium sp. RBT-2021 as Inodosporus fujiokai n. sp. Together with the success of the previous prawn-feeding trials, this study strongly suggests I. fujiokai n. sp. has a multi-host life cycle utilizing fish and crustacean hosts and different modes of development in each host. Such polymorphic life cycle has barely been known among fish microsporidians. This study also suggests that the genus Kabatana is a junior synonym of the genus Inodosporus.

PURPOSE: To compare clinical success rates and reductions in intraocular pressure (IOP) and IOP-lowering medication use following suture trabeculotomy ab interno (S group) or microhook trabeculotomy (µ group). METHODS: This retrospective review collected data from S (n = 104, 122 eyes) and µ (n = 42, 47 eyes) groups who underwent treatment between June 1, 2016, and October 31, 2019, and had 12-month follow-up data including IOP, glaucoma medications, complications, and additional IOP-lowering procedures. The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to evaluate treatment success rates defined as normal IOP (> 5 to ≤ 18 mm Hg), ≥ 20% reduction of IOP from baseline at two consecutive visits, and no further glaucoma surgery. RESULTS: Schlemm's canal opening was longer in the S group than in the µ group (P < 0.0001). The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis of all eyes showed cumulative clinical success rates in S and µ groups were 71.1% and 61.7% (P = 0.230). The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis of eyes with preoperative IOP ≥ 21 mmHg showed cumulative clinical success rates in S and µ groups were 80.4% and 60.0% (P = 0.0192). There were no significant differences in postoperative IOP at 1, 3, and 6 months (S group, 14.9 ± 5.6, 14.6 ± 4.5, 14.6 ± 3.9 mmHg; µ group, 15.8 ± 5.9, 15.2 ± 4.4, 14.7 ± 3.7 mmHg; P = 0.364, 0.443, 0.823), but postoperative IOP was significantly lower in the S group at 12 months (S group, 14.1 ± 3.1 mmHg; µ group, 15.6 ± 4.1 mmHg; P = 0.0361). There were no significant differences in postoperative numbers of glaucoma medications at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months (S group, 1.8 ± 1.6, 1.8 ± 1.5, 2.0 ± 1.6, 1.8 ± 1.5; µ group, 2.0 ± 1.6, 2.0 ± 1.6, 2.1 ± 1.6, 2.2 ± 1.7; P = 0.699, 0.420, 0.737, 0.198). CONCLUSION: S and µ group eyes achieved IOP reduction, but µ group eyes had lower clinical success rates among patients with high preoperative IOP at 12 months.

A numerical simulation of a single-reed instrument with a pressure chamber is conducted to examine the interaction among the flow, reed oscillation, and acoustic propagation. The flow and acoustic fields are predicted using the three-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations, whereas the one-dimensional dynamic beam equation is solved for reed oscillation. The deforming geometry in the aeroacoustic field is expressed by the volume penalization method as an immersed boundary technique. The results showed that the waveforms of the tip opening and far-field acoustic spectra agreed well with those measured experimentally. The three-dimensional flow configuration near the tip opening was visualized, and the measurement of the instantaneous volume flow rate at the tip opening revealed that 30%-40% of the total flow rate passed through the side opening. The spectral tendencies of the time derivatives of the flow rate for different tip openings were consistent with that of the far-field sound, indicating that the slope of the flow rate waveform significantly affects the generated sound's harmonics.

Background: Recent advances in endoscopic devices such as small bowel capsule endoscopy and balloon-assisted endoscopy have improved the level of medical care for small bowel bleeding. However, treating small bowel angioectasia remains challenging because repeated intermittent bleeding can occur from the multiple minute lesions (about 1 mm in size) that develop in a synchronous and metachronous manner. Here, we report a case of small bowel angioectasia in which capsule endoscopy performed early in a bleeding episode contributed to treatment. Case Summary: A 66-year-old man with suspected small bowel bleeding underwent small bowel capsule endoscopy and balloon-assisted endoscopy with argon plasma coagulation hemostasis for a small intestinal angioectasia. Because small bowel bleeding recurred intermittently after the treatment, small bowel capsule endoscopy and balloon-assisted endoscopy were repeated when there was no bleeding, but no abnormalities were found. Subsequent small bowel capsule endoscopy during a bleeding episode revealed bloody intestinal fluid in the proximal small intestine. Peroral balloon-assisted endoscopy was performed 2 days after SBCE for detailed observation of the small intestinal mucosa at the suspected bleeding site, and there a 1-mm Dieulafoy's lesion with no active bleeding was identified. We performed argon plasma coagulation, and no bleeding was observed thereafter. Conclusions: Small bowel capsule endoscopy immediately after bleeding onset can identify the bleeding source of multiple minute lesions in small bowel angioectasia.

Dissemination of extended-spectrum-cephalosporin (ESC)-resistant Salmonella, especially extended-spectrum-ß-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Salmonella, is a concern worldwide. Here, we assessed Salmonella carriage by food workers in Japan to clarify the prevalence of ESC-resistant Salmonella harboring blaCTX-M We then characterized the genetic features, such as transposable elements, of blaCTX-M-harboring plasmids using whole-genome sequencing. A total of 145,220 stool samples were collected from food workers, including cooks and servers from several restaurants, as well as food factory workers, from January to October 2017. Isolated salmonellae were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing (disk diffusion method), and whole-genome sequencing was performed for Salmonella strains harboring blaCTX-M Overall, 164 Salmonella isolates (0.113%) were recovered from 164 samples, from which we estimated that at least 0.113% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.096 to 0.132%) of food workers may carry Salmonella Based on this estimation, 3,473 (95% CI = 2,962 to 4,047) individuals among the 3,075,330 Japanese food workers are likely to carry Salmonella Of the 158 culturable isolates, seven showed resistance to ESCs: three isolates harbored blaCMY-2 and produced AmpC ß-lactamase, while four ESBL-producing isolates harbored blaCTX-M-14 (n = 1, Salmonella enterica serovar Senftenberg) or blaCTX-M-15 (n = 3, S. enterica serovar Haardt). blaCTX-M-15 was chromosomally located in the S Haardt isolates, which also contained ISEcp1, while the S Senftenberg isolate contained an IncFIA(HI1)/IncHI1A/IncHI1B(R27) hybrid plasmid carrying blaCTX-M-14 along with ISEcp1 This study indicates that food workers may be a reservoir of ESBL-producing Salmonella and associated genes. Thus, these workers may contribute to the spread of blaCTX-M via plasmids or mobile genetic elements such as ISEcp1IMPORTANCE Antimicrobial-resistant Salmonella bacteria arise in farm environments through imprudent use of antimicrobials. Subsequently, these antimicrobial-resistant strains, such as extended-spectrum-ß-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Salmonella, may be transmitted to humans via food animal-derived products. Here, we examined Salmonella carriage among food handlers in Japan. Overall, 164 of 145,220 fecal samples (0.113%) were positive for Salmonella Among the 158 tested isolates, four were identified as ESBL-producing isolates carrying ESBL determinants blaCTX-M-15 or blaCTX-M-14 In all cases, the genes coexisted with ISEcp1, regardless of whether they were located on the chromosome or on a plasmid. Our findings suggest that food workers may be a reservoir of ESBL-producing strains and could contribute to the spread of resistance genes from farm-derived Salmonella to other bacterial species present in the human gut.

Kudoa septempunctata, a myxosporean parasite infecting the trunk muscles of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus), is reported to cause food poisoning in humans. The molecular mechanisms underlying the toxicity of K. septempunctata spores remain largely unknown. In the present study, we examine the molecular basis of such toxicity using DNA microarray analysis of K. septempunctata-inoculated human colon adenocarcinoma cells (Caco-2). We observed that the transepithelial resistance of the K. septempunctata-inoculated Caco-2 cell monolayers decreased markedly. DNA microarray analysis revealed that the mRNA expression profiles of control and inoculated cells clearly differed. Inflammatory and bacteria-related pathways, such as interleukin-8 (IL-8) production and MAPK/NF-kappa B pathway, were enriched. The concentrations of IL-8 and serotonin (5-HT) were higher in inoculated cells than in controls. The amino acid derivative reactivity assay (ADRA) is an in chemico alternative to animal testing for skin sensitization that solves certain problems found in the use of the direct peptide reactivity assay (DPRA). During a recent validation study conducted at multiple laboratories as part of the process to include ADRA in an existing OECD test guideline, one of the nucleophilic reagents used in ADRA-N-(2-(1-naphthyl)acetyl)-l-cysteine (NAC)-was found to be susceptible to oxidation in much the same manner that the cysteine peptide used in DPRA was. Owing to this, we undertook a study to clarify the cause of the promotion of NAC oxidation. In general, cysteine and other chemicals that have thiol groups are known to oxidize in the presence of even minute quantities of metal ions. When metal ions were added to the ADRA reaction solution, Cu2+ promoted NAC oxidation significantly. When 0.25 µm of EDTA was added in the presence of Cu2+ , NAC oxidation was suppressed. Based on this, we predicted that the addition of EDTA to the NAC stock solution would suppress NAC oxidation. Next, we tested 82 chemicals used in developing ADRA to determine whether EDTA affects ADRA's ability to predict sensitization. The results showed that the addition of EDTA has virtually no effect on the reactivity of NAC with a test chemical, yielding an accuracy of 87% for predictions of skin sensitization, which was roughly the same as ADRA.

A new myxosporean parasite, Myxodavisia jejuensis n. sp. (Myxozoa; Bivalvulida) is described from the urinary bladder of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus cultured on Jeju Island, Korea. Two long lateral appendages with whip-like extensions were attached to mature spores of triangular to semi-circular shape. The spores were measured at 13.1 ± 1.1 µm in length, 17.2 ± 1.0 µm in thickness, and 13.1 ± 1.0 µm in width. Two spherical polar capsules, with a diameter of 5.0 ± 0.4 µm, were observed on opposite sides in the middle of the spore. The suture line was straight or slightly sinuous on the middle of spores. The 18S rDNA from M. jejuensis n. sp. was used in BLAST and molecular phylogenetic analysis. The results demonstrated that M. jejuensis n. sp. was closest to Sinuolinea capsularis and that the infection site tropism was correlated with the phylogeny of marine myxosporeans. In addition, we designed specific primers to detect the 18S rDNA gene of M. jejuensis n. sp.; the results showed specific amplification in M. jejuensis n. sp. among the myxosporeans isolated from the urinary bladder of the cultured olive flounder.

To elucidate the selection mechanism of a predominant mode in acoustic radiation from the recorder, the jet oscillations predicted by direct aeroacoustic simulations are analyzed based on a proposed formula for hydrodynamic and acoustic jet displacements. The displacements are well represented by the formula, taking into account the non-zero initial amplitude around the windway exit and variations of oscillation center with streamwise position for jet displacement. The analysis is applied to the jet oscillations in two different recorders with a straight- and an arch-shaped windway, where the shift of the predominant mode from the first to the second mode occurs for the straight-shaped recorder at a lower jet velocity compared to the arch-shaped recorder. The analytical results present the influence of the recorder shape on the amplification rate of the hydrodynamic jet displacement, the acoustic feedback effects and the phase relation between the hydrodynamic jet displacement and acoustic pressure in the resonator, along with the jet offset to the edge. Compared to the arch-shaped recorder, the convex curve of the amplification rate with the non-dimensional frequency based on the windway height for the straight-shaped recorder is located in the higher-frequency region, which contributes to the predominance of the higher mode.

Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) is a widely used index of water quality in wastewater treatment; however, conventional measurement methods are time-consuming. In this study, we analyzed a novel flame-oxidized stainless steel anode (FO-SSA) for use as the probe of bioelectrochemical system (BES)-based biosensors to monitor the BOD of treated swine wastewater. A thinner biofilm formed on the FO-SSA compared with that on a common carbon-cloth anode (CCA). The FO-SSA was superior to the CCA in terms of rapid sensing; the response time of the FO-SSA to obtain the value of R2 > 0.8 was 1 h, whereas the CCA required 4 h. These results indicate that the FO-SSA offers better performance than traditional CCAs in BES biosensors and can be used to improve biomonitoring of wastewater.

BACKGROUND: The flame-oxidized stainless steel anode (FO-SSA) is a newly developed electrode that enhances microbial fuel cell (MFC) power generation; however, substrate preference and community structure of the biofilm developed on FO-SSA have not been well characterized. Herein, we investigated the community on FO-SSA using high-throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene fragment in acetate-, starch-, glucose-, and livestock wastewater-fed MFCs. Furthermore, to analyze the effect of the anode material, the acetate-fed community formed on a common carbon-based electrode-carbon-cloth anode (CCA)-was examined for comparison. RESULTS: Substrate type influenced the power output of MFCs using FO-SSA; the highest electricity was generated using acetate as a substrate, followed by peptone, starch and glucose, and wastewater. Intensity of power generation using FO-SSA was related to the abundance of exoelectrogenic genera, namely Geobacter and Desulfuromonas, of the phylum Proteobacteria, which were detected at a higher frequency in acetate-fed communities than in communities fed with other substrates. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB)-Enterococcus and Carnobacterium-were predominant in starch- and glucose-fed communities, respectively. In the wastewater-fed community, members of phylum Planctomycetes were frequently detected (36.2%). Exoelectrogenic genera Geobacter and Desulfuromonas were also detected in glucose-, starch-, and wastewater-fed communities on FO-SSA, but with low frequency (0-3.2%); the lactate produced by Carnobacterium and Enterococcus in glucose- and starch-fed communities might affect exoelectrogenic bacterial growth, resulting in low power output by MFCs fed with these substrates. Furthermore, in the acetate-fed community on FO-SSA, Desulfuromonas was abundant (15.4%) and Geobacter had a minor proportion (0.7%), while in that on CCA, both Geobacter and Desulfuromonas were observed at similar frequencies (6.0-9.8%), indicating that anode material affects exoelectrogenic genus enrichment in anodic biofilm. CONCLUSIONS: Anodic community structure was dependent on both substrate and anode material. Although Desulfuromonas spp. are marine microorganisms, they were abundant in the acetate-fed community on FO-SSA, implying the presence of novel non-halophilic and exoelectrogenic species in this genus. Power generation using FO-SSA was positively related to the frequency of exoelectrogenic genera in the anodic community. Predominant LAB in saccharide-fed anodic biofilm caused low abundance of exoelectrogenic genera and consequent low power generation.

The soft microcapsules containing eucalyptus oil, ubiquinone and the fine water droplets could be prepared with interfacial dehydration reaction between hydroxy methyl cellulose and tannic acid using the water-in-oil-in-water type multiple (W/O)/W emulsion. The diameters of the microcapsules and the content and the microencapsulation efficiency of the core materials were significantly affected by the revolution velocity (Nr1) to form the (W/O) emulsion and the revolution velocity (Nr2) to form the (W/O)/W emulsion and the lecithin concentration. The mean diameters of the inner water droplets and those of the microcapsules were proportional to Nr1-1.25 and Nr1-0.11 for the revolution velocity (Nr1), respectively. With increasing the revolution velocity (Nr1), the content and the microencapsulation efficiency of the inner water droplets increased, while those of the oil phase decreased. The mean diameters of the microcapsules were proportional to Nr2-1.1. The content and the microencapsulation efficiency of the inner water droplets and those of the oil phase decreased with the revolution velocity (Nr1) and increased with the lecithin concentration.

A 68-year-old man with abdominal mass and anorexia was diagnosed with transvers colon cancer invading the abdominal wall. Considering the difficulty of curative resection, we first performed ileostomy. After surgery, the patient received mFOL FOX6 with bevacizumab as neoadjuvant chemotherapy. After 10 course of the regimen, computed tomography revealed shrinkage of the lesion, with the efficacy evaluated as a partial response. The patient underwent right hemicolectomy and partial resection of the abdominal wall. The pathological findings was ypT3(SS), ypN3, ly0, v1, ypPM0, ypDM0, ypRM0, ypStage III b. On histopathological examination, the efficacy of the chemotherapy was evaluated as Grade 1b. The patient received adjuvant chemotherapy with mFOLFOX6 and remains well without any evidence of recurrence more than 7 months after surgery.

A 74-year-oldwoman hadconsultedthe department of urology in our hospital because of microscopic hematuria. Cystoscopy revealeda urinary bladder tumor, suspectedas an adenocarcinoma basedon biopsy. MRI showeda cystic tumor of the appendix with vesical fistula; therefore, she underwent an operation with a diagnosis of appendiceal cancer invading the urinary bladder. During the operation, we found that the appendix sunk into the urinary bladder with right adnexa. Therefore, we performed ileocecal resection, partial resection of the urinary bladder, and right adnexectomy. Macroscopically, the bladder was filled with a large number of mucus lumps. A papillary tumor, 4 cm in size, growing in the lumen of the bladder was detectedat the invasion site. Microscopically, proliferating carcinoma cells in a papillary form were observedin the lumen of the appendix with mucus production, invading the wall of the urinary bladder at the fundus of the appendix. Thus, the patient was diagnosed with mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix(V, type 1, 45×30 mm, muc, pT4b[SI, urinary bladder], int, INF c, ly0, v0, pN0, cM0, pStage II ). Primary appendiceal cancer invading the urinary bladder is very rare; herein, we report a rare case of appendiceal mucinous adenocarcinoma detected with a bladder tumor and present a literature review.

Kudoa rayformis n. sp. (Myxozoa; Multivalvulida) was observed in the trunk muscle of Pacific sierra Scomberomorus sierra caught off the coast of Tonosi, Panama. The species formed pseudocysts in myofibers and infection was subclinical. The myxospores possessed four polar capsules and spore valves, one of which had a distinct filamentous extension. This unique morphological characteristic of the myxospore validated this as a new species of Kudoa. Genetically, K. rayformis n. sp. is closest to K. inornata, with 98% and 91% similarity in 18S and 28S rDNA, respectively, but its spore shape was clearly distinct. The 18S rDNA and concatenated sequences from K. rayformis were used in molecular phylogenetic analyses of kudoids to examine the congruence of phylogeny with infection site tropism, spore morphology and cyst/pseudocyst formation. The results demonstrated that the phenotypic traits were correlated with the phylogeny of Kudoidae, and that the biological features of K. rayformis originated from the ancient Kudoidae as exhibited by the non-specific infection site tropism and the ability to infect muscle and form pseudocysts.

Generally, for transflective liquid crystal displays with different modes and different cell gaps between the refractive and transmissive parts, precise process control to pattern the electrode and match the cell gaps may reduce the yield and thus, require high cost. This paper proposes a simple transflective liquid crystal display with a single-mode and single-cell thickness without a patterned electrode to achieve better productivity. The proposed transflective liquid crystal display consists of three half-wave retardation films, two quarter-wave retardation films, and an LC layer, whose optical performance was confirmed by both simulation and experiment. The optimal optical configuration to obtain an excellent dark state in the visible range was determined by the Mueller matrices calculus, which was applied to each optical component. The calculated and experimental results showed that the proposed transflective LC structure has excellent electro-optical properties and is expected to have many liquid crystal display applications.

Kudoa septempunctata, a myxosporean parasite infecting the trunk muscles of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus), has been recently reported to be the causative agent of a type of food poisoning in humans. Patients exhibited acute diarrhea and vomiting after ingestion of the raw flesh of infected flounder. A recent increase in the number of food-poisoning cases has prompted us to develop a control strategy of this parasite. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of several temperature and chemical treatments for inactivating K. septempunctata spores in vitro using the vital staining assay with the fluorescent dyes Hoechst 33342 and propidium iodide (PI). Screening tests of treatment methods against K. septempunctata suggested that 25% ethanol for 5 min, 80°C for 10 s, limonene at 10 µL/mL for 5 min, and salinities at 0‰ and 160‰ for 5 min were effective for killing spores. To verify toxicity loss in K. septempunctata spores after the treatments, tight junction barrier integrity assays with Caco-2 cells were conducted. The results of the Caco-2 assays corresponded well with those of the Hoechst 33342-PI staining assay. Further studies are required to determine a practical treatment procedure for inactivating spores considering the treatment application in the production process of cultured olive flounder.

The urea breath test was developed for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection. In this test, we measure exhaled ¹³CO2 using POCone developed in Japan, which is an infrared spectrometry photometer. Based on the urea breath test, we subsequently developed the in vitro ¹³C-glucose exhaling test. In this test, ¹³C-glucose is added in the circulation culture medium, and ¹³CO2 generated with a bioartificial liver is measured by the POCone. The quantity of discharged ¹³CO2 reflects the energy-producing ability of the bioartifi- cial liver. Therefore, we can simply and easily observe the viability of a bioartificial liver and the effect of drugs on carbohydrate metabolism in the bioartificial liver in real time. According to the results of a bioartificial liver study, we developed the fasting ¹³C-glucose breath test, which can quickly determine hepatic insu- lin resistance in humans with marked sensitivity. The bioartificial liver study unexpectedly led to the development of a new stable isotope breath test. [Review].

An adenomatoid tumor is a benign tumor of mesothelial derivation, typically found in the genital track. However, though extremely rare, an adenomatoid tumor can be found in the adrenal gland, making it difficult to clinically and radiologically differentiate it from an adrenocortical tumor or a pheochromocytoma prior to surgery. We encountered a-52-year old man with an adenomatoid tumor in the adrenal gland, who presented with an incidentally discovered left adrenal mass revealed by PET-CT from his regular health examinations. He had been diagnosed with paroxysmal hypertension two years before and was being treated with a hypolipidemic agent. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a left adrenal mass measuring 25 × 15 mm, and the findings were different from the typical adrenocortical adenoma or pheochromocytoma. Although laboratory examinations of his blood samples indicated normal adrenal function, 24-hour urine specimens revealed high levels of 17-OHCS, 17-KS, and catecholamine. Both 131I-MIBG scintigraphy and phentolamine tests showed negative findings. The patient underwent a laparoscopic left adrenalectomy. The cut surface of the left adrenal gland weighing 21 g contained a white, solid mass measuring 25 × 15 × 20 mm within the adrenocortical tissue. Histologically, the tumor was composed of small tubules lined by eosinophilic tumor cells. The tumor cells were immunohistochemically positive for cytokeratins and calretinin, but negative for steroidogenic factor-1. Therefore, based on these findings, we diagnosed this tumor as an adrenal adenomatoid tumor. Histopathologically, the adrenal adenomatoid tumor may be difficult to distinguish from an adrenocortical adenoma, carcinoma, lymphangioma, hemangioma, angiosarcoma, or metastatic adenocarcinoma. Under these conditions, immunohistochemical examination is useful for definite diagnosis.
