RESUMO

Enhancers are crucial in gene expression regulation, dictating the specificity and timing of transcriptional activity, which highlights the importance of their identification for unravelling the intricacies of genetic regulation. Therefore, it is critical to identify enhancers and their strengths. Repeated sequences in the genome are repeats of the same or symmetrical fragments. There has been a great deal of evidence that repetitive sequences contain enormous amounts of genetic information. Thus, We introduce the W2V-Repeated Index, designed to identify enhancer sequence fragments and evaluates their strength through the analysis of repeated K-mer sequences in enhancer regions. Utilizing the word2vector algorithm for numerical conversion and Manta Ray Foraging Optimization for feature selection, this method effectively captures the frequency and distribution of K-mer sequences. By concentrating on repeated K-mer sequences, it minimizes computational complexity and facilitates the analysis of larger K values. Experiments indicate that our method performs better than all other advanced methods on almost all indicators.

RESUMO

We propose a semiconductor-graphene cylinder that can serve as a terahertz (THz) photonic crystal. In such a structure, graphene plays a role in achieving a strong mismatch of the dielectric constant at the semiconductor-graphene interface due to its two-dimensional nature and relatively low value of the dielectric constant. We find that when the radius of the outer semiconductor layer is about ρ(1)~100 µm, the frequencies of the photonic modes are within the THz bandwidth and they can be efficiently tuned via varying ρ(1). Furthermore, the dispersion relation of the photonic modes shows that a semiconductor-graphene cylinder is of excellent light transport properties, which can be utilized for the THz waveguide. This study is pertinent to the application of graphene as THz photonic devices.

RESUMO

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are forms of degenerative retinal disorders that may result in vision impairment or even permanent blindness. Early detection of these conditions is essential to maintaining a patient's quality of life. The fundus photography technique is non-invasive, safe, and rapid way of assessing the function of the retina. It is widely used as a diagnostic tool for patients who suffer from fundus-related diseases. Using fundus images to analyze these two diseases is a challenging exercise, since there are rarely obvious features in the images during the incipient stages of the disease. In order to deal with these issues, we have proposed a deep learning method called FunSwin. The Swin Transformer constitutes the main framework for this method. Additionally, due to the characteristics of medical images, such as their small number and relatively fixed structure, transfer learning strategy that are able to increase the low-level characteristics of the model as well as data enhancement strategy to balance the data are integrated. Experiments have demonstrated that the proposed method outperforms other state-of-the-art approaches in both binary and multiclass classification tasks on the benchmark dataset.

RESUMO

IMPORTANCE: Parents take the lead in parent-child interactions and their emotion regulation ability and empathy during parenting may be associated with children's emotional/behavioral problems. However, the specific mechanisms underlying these associations remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to explore the effect of parental empathy and emotional regulation on social competence and emotional/behavioral problems in school-age children. METHODS: A questionnaire-based survey was conducted with 274 parents of 8-11-year-old children using Achenbach's Child Behavior Checklist, the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and the Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy. RESULTS: Children with emotional/behavioral problems (n = 37) had relatively lower social competence than children in a matched control group (n = 37). Compared with the parents of children in the control group, parents of children with emotional/behavioral problems had significantly lower cognitive empathy scores, mainly manifested by low perspective-taking and online simulation abilities. Mediation analysis showed that parental cognitive empathy had an indirect effect on children's emotional/behavioral problems through children's social competence. INTERPRETATION: Parental empathy may have a subtle influence on the social competence of school-aged children, which further affects the severity of children's emotional/behavioral problems.

RESUMO

We aimed to investigate whether the EC-SOD rs2536512, rs8192291 and rs1799895 polymorphisms and haplotypes are associated with T2DM in a Chinese Han population. A total of 540 Chinese Han patients with T2DM and 562 healthy subjects were enrolled in our study since October 2013, and all of them had no blood relationship. An iPlex GLOD SNP genotyping analysis of the EC-SOD rs2536512, rs8192291 and rs1799895 was carried out in a 384 well plate format using the Sequenom MassARRAY® System (Sequenom, Inc. San Diego, USA). We observed that the CT (OR=1.58, 95% CI=1.20-2.08) and TT (OR=15.27, 95% CI=4.34-53.75) genotypes of rs8192291 were associated with T2DM susceptibility compared with the CC genotype. In dominant and recessive models, rs8192291 was correlated with a moderate statistically increased susceptibility of T2DM compared with the reference genotype. The GTC, GCC and GCG haplotypes were associated with risk of T2DM. In summary, rs8192291 polymorphism and haplotypes may become a useful biomarker for prediction of the susceptibility of this disease. Further experiments are necessary to validate our results.

RESUMO

Using the property of dynamic complementary suppression modulated transmission of bacteriorhodopsin film, we propose and demonstrate an all-optical time-delay relay in an incoherent light system. The relay can last for a certain amount of time after the switch function of turn off (or turn on) is activated. Furthermore, the delay time can be adjusted by changing the lifetime of the M state and the intensities of blue and yellow beams.
