RESUMO

The combined application of metasurface and terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy techniques has received considerable attention in the fields of sensing and detection. However, to detect trace samples, the THz wave must still be enhanced locally using certain methods to improve the detection sensitivity. In this study, we proposed and experimentally demonstrated a fano resonance metasurface-based silver nanoparticles (FaMs-AgNPs) sensor. AgNPs can enhance the sensitivity of the sensor by generating charge accumulation and inducing localized electric field enhancement through the tip effect, thereby enhancing the interaction between the THz waves and analytes. We investigated the effects of four different contents of AgNPs, 10 µl, 20 µl, 30 µl and 40 µl, on the detection of acetamiprid. At 30 µl of AgNPs, the amplitude change of the FaMs-AgNPs sensor was more pronounced and the sensitivity was higher, which could detect acetamiprid solutions as low as 100 pg/ml. The FaMs-AgNPs sensor has the advantages of a simple structure, easy processing, and excellent sensing performance, and has a great potential application value in the field of THz trace detection and other fields.

OBJECTIVE: Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 10 (USP10), a typical de-ubiquitinase, has been found to play a double-edged role in human cancers. Previously, we reported that the expression of USP10 was negatively correlated with the depth of gastric wall invasion, lymph node metastasis, and prognosis in gastric cancer (GC) patients. However, it remains unclear whether USP10 can regulate the metastasis of GC cells through its de-ubiquitination function. METHODS: In this study, proteome, ubiquitinome, and transcriptome analyses were conducted to comprehensively identify novel de-ubiquitination targets for USP10 in GC cells. Subsequently, a series of validation experiments, including in vitro cell culture studies, in vivo metastatic tumor models, and clinical sample analyses, were performed to elucidate the regulatory mechanism of USP10 and its de-ubiquitination targets in GC metastasis. RESULTS: After overexpression of USP10 in GC cells, 146 proteins, 489 ubiquitin sites, and 61 mRNAs exhibited differential expression. By integrating the results of multi-omics, we ultimately screened 9 potential substrates of USP10, including TNFRSF10B, SLC2A3, CD44, CSTF2, RPS27, TPD52, GPS1, RNF185, and MED16. Among them, TNFRSF10B was further verified as a direct de-ubiquitination target for USP10 by Co-IP and protein stabilization assays. The dysregulation of USP10 or TNFRSF10B affected the migration and invasion of GC cells in vitro and in vivo models. Molecular mechanism studies showed that USP10 inhibited the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process by increasing the stability of TNFRSF10B protein, thereby regulating the migration and invasion of GC cells. Finally, the retrospective clinical sample studies demonstrated that the downregulation of TNFRSF10B expression was associated with poor survival among 4 of 7 GC cohorts, and the expression of TNFRSF10B protein was significantly negatively correlated with the incidence of distant metastasis, diffuse type, and poorly cohesive carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS: Our study established a high-throughput strategy for screening de-ubiquitination targets for USP10 and further confirmed that inhibiting the ubiquitination of TNFRSF10B might be a promising therapeutic strategy for GC metastasis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Secondary cell wall (SCW) thickening is a major cellular developmental stage determining wood structure and properties. Although the molecular regulation of cell wall deposition during tracheary element differentiation has been well established in primary growth systems, less is known about the gene regulatory processes involved in the multi-layered SCW thickening of mature trees. METHODS: Using third-generation [long-read single-molecule real-time (SMRT)] and second-generation [short-read sequencing by synthesis (SBS)] sequencing methods, we established a Pinus bungeana transcriptome resource with comprehensive functional and structural annotation for the first time. Using these approaches, we generated high spatial resolution datasets for the vascular cambium, xylem expansion regions, early SCW thickening, late SCW thickening and mature xylem tissues of 71-year-old Pinus bungeana trees. KEY RESULTS: A total of 79 390 non-redundant transcripts, 31 808 long non-coding RNAs and 5147 transcription factors were annotated and quantified in different xylem tissues at all growth and differentiation stages. Furthermore, using this high spatial resolution dataset, we established a comprehensive transcriptomic profile and found that members of the NAC, WRKY, SUS, CESA and LAC gene families are major players in early SCW formation in tracheids, whereas members of the MYB and LBD transcription factor families are highly expressed during late SCW thickening. CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide new molecular insights into the regulation of multi-layered SCW thickening in conifers. The high spatial resolution datasets provided can serve as important gene resources for improving softwoods.

PURPOSE: Perivascular epicardial fat stranding detected in the coronary computed tomography (CT) angiography is associated with culprit lesions and provides helpful information on the risk of acute coronary syndrome. This study aimed to evaluate the potential clinical significance of pericarotid fat stranding (PCFS) and investigate the association between PCFS and short-term prognosis in acute stroke using head and neck CT angiography (CTA). METHODS: This study included 80 patients (mean age, 69.69 ± 11.03; 58 men) who underwent both head and neck CTA and magnetic resonance imaging within a 1-week period. Baseline characteristics, pericarotid adipose tissue attenuation, plaque characteristics, ischemic penumbra, infarct core volume, infarct core growth rate (CGR), and the grade of collateral status were recorded and compared between a PCFS group and a non-PCFS group. Data were compared using the 2-sample t test, Mann-Whitney U test, Fisher exact test, and Spearman rank correlation analysis. RESULTS: We found that patients with PCFS had a significantly higher pericarotid adipose tissue density than patients without PCFS (-55.75 ± 5.53 vs -65.82 ± 9.65, P < 0.001). Patients with PCFS showed a larger infarct core volume (166.43 ± 73.07 vs 91.43 ± 55.03, P = 0.001) and faster CGR (39.57 ± 12.01 vs 19.83 ± 32.77; P < 0.001), and the frequency of adverse prognosis was more significant than in control participants (83.33% vs 19.11%). CONCLUSIONS: Individuals with PCFS showed higher CGR, which was substantially related to worse outcomes in patients with acute stroke with ipsilateral carotid atherosclerosis. Recognition of PCFS may help predict stroke prognosis and allow doctors to take early action to improve patient prognosis.

As a complementary and alternative therapy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been playing a significant role in gastric cancer treatment. Data from individual systematic reviews have not been comprehensively summarized, and the relationship between certain interventions and outcomes are ill-defined. This study aimed to analyze the advantages of TCM interventions for gastric cancer by the method of evidence mapping. We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journals Database, and Wanfang Database for systematic reviews of TCM treating gastric cancer up to December 31, 2023. We used Excel, Endnote 20, and Python software for the analysis of incorporated studies. We assessed the quality of included SRs by AMSTAR-2 and performed evidence mapping including 89 SRs, 1648 RCTs and 122,902 patients, identifying 47 types of interventions and 39 types of outcomes. From a visual overview, we displayed that most SRs reported beneficial effects in improving short- and long-term survival, myelosuppression, and immune function, even though the quality of evidence was generally low. The benefits of Brucea javanica Oil Emulsion Injection, ShenQiFuZheng Injection, XiaoAiPing, Astragalus-Containing TCM and Guben Xiaoji Therapy were found the most solid in corresponding aspects. Our findings suggest that although more rigorous clinical trials and SRs are needed to identify the precise effectiveness, integrating such evidence into clinical care of gastric cancer is expected to be beneficial.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation factors of complete clinical response in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) patients receiving conventional treatment. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with IIMs hospitalized in Peking University People's Hospital from January 2000 to June 2023 were included. The correlation factors of complete clinical response to conventional treatment were identified by analyzing the clinical characteristics, laboratory features, peripheral blood lymphocytes, immunological indicators, and therapeutic drugs. RESULTS: Among the 635 patients included, 518 patients finished the follow-up, with an average time of 36.8 months. The total complete clinical response rate of IIMs was 50.0% (259/518). The complete clinical response rate of dermatomyositis (DM), anti-synthetase syndrome (ASS) and immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) were 53.5%, 48.9% and 39.0%, respectively. Fever (P=0.002) and rapid progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD) (P=0.014) were observed much more frequently in non-complete clinical response group than in complete clinical response group. The aspartate transaminase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), D-dimer, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reaction protein (CRP) and serum ferritin were significantly higher in non-complete clinical response group as compared with complete clinical response group. As for the treatment, the percentage of glucocorticoid received and intravenous immunoglobin (IVIG) were significantly higher in non-complete clinical response group than in complete clinical response group. Risk factor analysis showed that IMNM subtype (P=0.007), interstitial lung disease (ILD) (P=0.001), eleva-ted AST (P=0.012), elevated serum ferritin (P=0.016) and decreased count of CD4+T cells in peripheral blood (P=0.004) might be the risk factors for IIMs non-complete clinical response. CONCLUSION: The total complete clinical response rate of IIMs is low, especially for IMNM subtype. More effective intervention should be administered to patients with ILD, elevated AST, elevated serum ferritin or decreased count of CD4+T cells at disease onset.

Urologic cancers accounted for more than two million new cases and around 0.8 million deaths in 2020. Although surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, as well as castration for prostate cancer, remain the cornerstones for managing urologic neoplasms, they can result in severe adverse effects, poor patient compliance, and unsatisfactory survival rates, thus, it is essential to develop novel options that enable the early detection of these malignancies, together with providing accurate diagnoses, and more efficient treatment strategies. Nanomedicine represents an emerging approach that can deliver formulations or drugs across traditional biological barriers in the body and be directed to specific cell types within target organs via active targeting or passive targeting, thus, showing potential to improve the management of urologic cancers. In this review, we discussed the most recent updates on the application of nanomedicines in the diagnosis and treatment of urologic cancers, with focus on prostate, bladder and kidney tumors. We also presented the anti-tumor molecular mechanisms of newly designed nanomedicine for treating urologic cancers, mainly including image-guided surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, gene therapy, immunotherapy, and their synergetic therapy. Current studies have demonstrated the potential advantages of nanomedicine over conventional approaches. However, most developments and new findings in this area have not been validated in clinical trials yet, and therefore, efforts shall be made to translate these research insights into clinical practices for urologic cancers.

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer, which mainly includes tumors of the esophagus, stomach, liver, biliary system, pancreas, and colon, is one of the most common cancers and the dominant cause of cancer-related deaths globally. For the diagnosis of GI cancer, in addition to routine systemic imaging, such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography-CT, locoregional imaging, which covers endoscopy and ultrasound, is also of great concern. However, the current mainstream contrast agents used in these imaging methods have poor specificity, short maintenance time, and severe side effects. In recent years, with the development of nanotechnology, nanoparticles, such as quantum dots, iron oxide nanoparticles, and gold nanoparticles, have offered many benefits in GI cancer imaging owing to their small size, customizable surface properties, and retention effect. An increasing number of studies have combined the traditional methods of imaging digestive tract tumors with nanoparticles, significantly improving the early diagnosis rate and staging accuracy. Here, we review the current evidence on the utilization of nanoparticles in the diagnostic imaging of GI tumors from the aspects mentioned above.

BACKGROUND: Increasing research indicates that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play critical roles in the development of ulcerative colitis (UC). This study aimed to determine the role of circRNA CCND1 in UC bio-progression, which has been shown to be downregulated in UC tissues. METHODS: Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to determine the levels of circRNA CCND1, miR-142-5p, and nuclear receptor coactivator-3 (NCOA3) in UC tissues and in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced Caco-2 cells. Target sites of circRNA CCND1 and miR-142-5p were predicted using StarBase, and TargetScan to forecast potential linkage points of NCOA3 and miR-142-5p, which were confirmed by a double luciferase reporter-gene assay. Cell Counting Kit 8 and flow cytometry assays were performed to assess Caco-2 cell viability and apoptosis. TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-6, and IL-8 were detected using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay kits. RESULTS: CircRNA CCND1 was downregulated in UC clinical samples and LPS-induced Caco-2 cells. In addition, circRNA CCND1 overexpression suppressed LPS-induced apoptosis and inflammatory responses in Caco-2 cells. Dual-luciferase reporter-gene assays showed that miR-142-5p could be linked to circRNA CCND1. Moreover, miR-142-5p was found to be highly expressed in UC, and its silencing inhibited LPS-stimulated Caco-2 cell apoptosis and inflammatory responses. Importantly, NCOA3 was found downstream of miR-142-5p. Overexpression of miR-142-5p reversed the inhibitory effect of circRNA CCND1-plasmid on LPS-stimulated Caco-2 cells, and the effects of miR-142-5p inhibitor were reversed by si-NCOA3. CONCLUSION: CircRNA CCND1 is involved in UC development by dampening miR-142-5p function, and may represent a novel approach for treating UC patients.

Gegen Decoction as anti-inflammatory medicine is used in clinic widespread, however the specific anti-inflammatory molecular mechanism of Gegen Decoction is still unclear. The purpose was to study the anti-inflammatory activity of Gegen Decoction in vivo and to research its anti-inflammatory molecular mechanism. The content of main essential components in Gegen Decoction were determined by HPLC method. The anti-inflammatory activity of Gegen Decoction was confirmed through in vivo animal experiments. Furthermore, RAW 264.7 cells were stimulated by lipopolysaccharides to induce inflammatory reaction, the modulatory effect of Gegen Decoction on the activation process of mitogen-activated protein kinases and nuclear factor-κB signaling pathways was investigated. The content of puerarin was the highest among all the index components. Gegen Decoction inhibited carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats and xylene-induced ear swelling in mice. Gegen Decoction had no obvious toxicity against RAW 264.7 cells at the concentrations of 10-40 mg/mL; significantly inhibited the release of nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6; down-regulated the high expression of inflammatory proteins inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2. It inhibited the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs)/extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK)/c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), the degradation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)/inhibitor of NF-κB-α (IκB-α) and the nuclear translocation of NF-κB/p65 into nucleus. Gegen Decoction exerts significant anti-inflammatory activity, mainly by blocking the activation of both MAPKs and NF-κB pathway.

Hb variants prevalent in China are different from those in other countries. We aimed to assess the interference from Hb variants found in China on HbA1c measurement. All Hb variants were confirmed using Sanger sequencing. HbA1c was measured using a capillary electrophoresis method (Capillarys 3 OCTA), two cation-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography methods (ADAMS HA-8180V and HLC-723 G8 standard mode), an immunoassay (Cobas c501), and a boronate affinity chromatography method (Premier Hb9210). Premier Hb9210 was used as a comparative method. A total of 16 species of Hb variants were identified in 102 variant carriers. The most common variant was Hb E, followed by Hb Q-Thailand, Hb New York and Hb J-Bangkok. Clinically significant interference was observed for the Capillarys 3 OCTA (two Hb variants), ADAMS HA-8180V (seven Hb variants), HLC-723 G8 (14 Hb variants), and Cobas c501 (two Hb variants). The proportion of unacceptable HbA1c results was 13.7% for Capillarys 3 OCTA, 52.9% for HA-8180V, 83.3% for HLC-723 G8, and 3.9% for Cobas c501. Hb variants in China severely affect the accuracy of some commonly used HbA1c methods.

PURPOSE: This study was performed to evaluate trends in and provide future direction for anesthesiology education, research, and clinical practice. METHODS: We collected high-impact papers, ranking in the top 10% in the field of anesthesiology and published from 2011 to 2020, by the InCites tool based on the Web of Science Core Collection. We analyzed the trends, locations, distribution of subject categories, research organizations, collaborative networks, and subject terms of these papers. RESULTS: A total of 4,685 high-impact papers were included for analysis. The number of high-impact papers increased from 462 in 2011 to 520 in 2020. The paper with the highest value of category normalized citation impact (115.95) was published in Anesthesia and Analgesia in 2018. High-impact papers were mainly distributed in the subject categories of "Anesthesiology," "Clinical Neurology," "Neurosciences," and "Medicine General Internal." They were primarily cited in "Anesthesiology," "Clinical Neurology," "Neurosciences," "Medicine General Internal," and "Surgery." Most of these high-impact papers came from the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, and Australia. The most productive institutions were the League of European Research Universities, Harvard University, University of Toronto, University of London, University of California System, and University Health Network Toronto. Research collaboration circles have been formed in the USA, UK, and Canada. Subject-term analysis indicated postoperative analgesia, chronic pain, and perioperative complications were high-interest topics, and COVID-19 became a new hot topic in 2020. CONCLUSIONS: The current study provides a historical view of high-impact papers in anesthesiology in the past ten years. High-impact papers were mostly from the USA. Postoperative analgesia, chronic pain, and perioperative complications have been hot topics, and COVID-19 became a new topic in 2020. These findings provide references for education, research, and clinical practice in the field of anesthesiology.


RéSUMé: OBJECTIF: Cette étude a été réalisée pour évaluer les tendances et fournir une orientation future à l'enseignement, la recherche et la pratique clinique en anesthésiologie. MéTHODE: Nous avons colligé des articles à fort impact, classés dans le top 10 % dans le domaine de l'anesthésiologie et publiés de 2011 à 2020, par l'outil InCites basé sur la Web of Science Core Collection. Nous avons analysé les tendances, les emplacements, la répartition des catégories de sujets, les organismes de recherche, les réseaux de collaboration et les termes des sujets de ces articles. RéSULTATS: Au total, 4685 articles à fort impact ont été inclus pour analyse. Le nombre de manuscrits à fort impact est passé de 462 en 2011 à 520 en 2020. Les manuscrits à fort impact provenaient principalement des États-Unis. L'analgésie postopératoire, la douleur chronique et les complications périopératoires ont été des sujets d'actualité, et la COVID-19 est devenue un nouveau sujet en 2020. Ces résultats fournissent des références pour la formation, la recherche et la pratique clinique dans le domaine de l'anesthésiologie.

BACKGROUND: The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the delivery of health care is a promising area, and guidelines, consensus statements, and standards on AI regarding various topics have been developed. OBJECTIVE: We performed this study to assess the quality of guidelines, consensus statements, and standards in the field of AI for medicine and to provide a foundation for recommendations about the future development of AI guidelines. METHODS: We searched 7 electronic databases from database establishment to April 6, 2022, and screened articles involving AI guidelines, consensus statements, and standards for eligibility. The AGREE II (Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation II) and RIGHT (Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare) tools were used to assess the methodological and reporting quality of the included articles. RESULTS: This systematic review included 19 guideline articles, 14 consensus statement articles, and 3 standard articles published between 2019 and 2022. Their content involved disease screening, diagnosis, and treatment; AI intervention trial reporting; AI imaging development and collaboration; AI data application; and AI ethics governance and applications. Our quality assessment revealed that the average overall AGREE II score was 4.0 (range 2.2-5.5; 7-point Likert scale) and the mean overall reporting rate of the RIGHT tool was 49.4% (range 25.7%-77.1%). CONCLUSIONS: The results indicated important differences in the quality of different AI guidelines, consensus statements, and standards. We made recommendations for improving their methodological and reporting quality. This study systematically reviewed the clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for depression in children and adolescents and assessed the quality and recommendation consistency of those CPGs. Evidence mapping was presented to illustrate the research trends and identify gaps to guide future research. Literature on CPGs for depression was systematically collected from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, guideline databases, and psychiatric association/ society websites. The basic information, recommendations, methodological quality, and reporting quality of CPGs were extracted, and the supporting evidence strength for the included CPGs was analyzed in Excel. Four appraisers independently assessed the eligible CPGs using AGREE II instrument and the RIGHT checklist. All recommendations from the CPGs were summarized and analyzed, and the evidence mapping bubble charts were plotted in Excel. After excluding 15,184 records, 12 depression CPGs were eventually proved eligible, six of which were of high quality and six medium quality. A total of 39 major recommendations were summarized, 35 of which were supported by high-quality CPGs. Although direct comparisons are challenging due to differences in grading schemes and research quality, most CPGs share many pivotal recommendations that can help guide clinical practice. However, the evidence for some clinical problems is still lacking. Thus, more research is necessary on the screening and treatment of children and adolescents to put forward more evidence-based and high-quality recommendations.

This letter presents a fabricated Dirac point modulator of a graphene-based terahertz electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-like metasurface (GrE & MS). Dynamic modulation is realized by applying three stimulus modes of optical pump, bias voltage, and optical pump-bias voltage combination. With increasing luminous flux or bias voltage, the transmission amplitude undergoes two stages: increasing and decreasing, because the graphene Fermi level shifts between the valence band, Dirac point, and conduction band. Thus, an approximate position of the Dirac point can be evaluated by the transmission spectrum fluctuation. The maximum modulation depth is measured to be 182% under 1 V. These findings provide a method for designing ultrasensitive terahertz modulation devices.

BACKGROUND We aimed to analyze the related factors of intracranial anterior circulation saccular artery thrombosis and its characteristics on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI) images to provide a basis for neurosurgeons to select the precise treatment strategy for thrombotic intracranial aneurysms (TIA). MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective analysis included 136 patients with unruptured intracranial anterior circulation artery aneurysms who underwent HR-MRI. The 136 aneurysms were divided into thrombus (41) and non-thrombus (95) groups. Single factor analysis of morphological and clinical indicators were conducted to select meaningful indicators for logistic regression analysis; the optimal diagnostic threshold was calculated through ROC curve analysis. The location and signal characteristics of thrombi were analyzed to inform clinical treatment. RESULTS Single factor analysis revealed significant differences in patient age, aneurysm size, aneurysm neck, aspect ratio, size ratio, and hyperlipidemia between the 2 groups (P<0.05). Multi-factor regression analysis demonstrated that aneurysm size (OR=2.180) and aspect ratio value (OR=7.495) were correlated with intracranial thrombosis. ROC curve analysis showed that for aneurysms larger than 8 mm, the sensitivity and specificity of TIA prediction were 83% and 93%, respectively. For aneurysms with aspect ratio values greater than 2.5, sensitivity and specificity of TIA predication were 75% and 95%, respectively. The proportion of aneurysm wall enhancement and clinical symptoms in the thrombus group was significantly higher than that in the non-thrombus group. CONCLUSIONS Intracranial unruptured aneurysms with the size larger than 8 mm or with aspect ratio values higher than 2.5 indicated the possible formation of thrombosis in the aneurysm.

A novel, to the best of our knowledge, four-band tunable absorber sensor, based on a graphene layer, is presented. The proposed sensor configuration is composed of a single monolayer of graphene placed on top of a SiO2 dielectric substrate, whereas a gold grounding plane is placed beneath the SiO2. In addition, the resonant frequencies of the sensor can be directly controlled by adjusting the Fermi level of graphene, while the absorption rate reaches a value greater than 99% at all resonant peaks. The acquired calculation results of the refractive index sensitivity of our proposed sensor show that the four resonant peaks possess superior sensing characteristics. Additionally, by covering the measured objects with different refractive indices, the acquired results indicate that the sensing performance of the sensor exhibits good linearity. From our analysis, it is concluded that the absorbing sensor exhibits a broad range of potential applications in the biomedical field.

Introduction: Circular RNA (circRNA) plays an important role in regulating metabolism of red blood cells (RBCs) and their storage lesions, but the study of how circRNA expression changes in stored RBCs has rarely been conducted. Methods: The expression change of circRNA was systemically evaluated via high-throughput sequencing on healthy RBCs on day 0, 20, and 40. And then we confirmed the reliability of the high-throughput sequencing analysis by RT-qPCR characterization on selected circRNAs. A higher parental gene enrichment was used to explore circRNA function in pathways. In addition, we deciphered a dysregulated circRNA-related ceRNAs network, and identified three circRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory axes related to storage lesion. Results: We identified 2,586 known and 6,216 putative novel circRNAs, more than 100 circRNAs expression levels were shifted, and the number of downregulated circRNAs was greater with longer storage time. Furthermore, a higher parental gene enrichment related to circRNA was found in pathways, including cAMP signaling pathway, ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis, apoptosis, adhesion, MAPK signaling pathway, cystine methionine metabolism, RNA degradation, RNA transport, TGF-ß, and actin regulatory pathway. hsa_circ_0007127-miR-513a-5p-SMAD4, hsa_circ_0000033-miR-19a-3p-VAMP3, and hsa_circ_0005546-miR-4720-CCND3 regulatory axes related to storage lesion was found. Conclusions: Through investigation in circRNAs profile and circRNA-miRNA-mRNA interactions, this study provides insights on stored RBC circRNA expression changes, which closely relate to the storage lesion of RBCs and their physiological functions.

AIMS: To examine relationships between psychological capital, work engagement and organisational citizenship behaviour among nurses. BACKGROUND: Psychological capital, work engagement and organisational citizenship behaviour are all positive variables associated with work. Clarifying the relationship between the variables can help nursing managers implement tailored and effective intervention strategies to improve individual and organisational performance and quality of care. DESIGN: A quantitative cross-sectional study was designed. METHODS: The study was carried out from June 2021 to September 2021 in Sichuan Province, China. A total of 606 nurses working at six tertiary hospitals were selected with convenience sampling. Participants were investigated using demographic, work-related information questionnaire, Psychological Capital Questionnaire, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale and Organizational Citizenship Behavior Questionnaire. RESULTS: The scores of psychological capital, work engagement and organisational citizenship behaviour were 102.56 ± 15.47, 67.96 ± 21.71 and 101.57 ± 11.57, respectively. The multiple linear regression model explained 7.3% of the total variance in organisational citizenship behaviour related to demographic and work-related factors. There was a significant positive correlation between psychological capital, work engagement and nurses' organisational citizenship behaviour. Additionally, structural equation modeling showed that work engagement mediated the relationship between psychological capital and organisational citizenship behaviour with the partial mediating effect of 0.093. The final model explained 28% of organisational citizenship behaviour. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that both psychological capital and work engagement are facilitators for organisational citizenship behaviour in nurses. Managers can increase nurses' organisational citizenship behaviour through developing psychological capital and improving the work engagement. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: This study indicates that both psychological capital and work engagement are protective factors of organisational citizenship behaviour, which provide proof for optimizing human resources management from a positive psychology perspective. Our finding can help managers correctly understand the mechanism of the relationship among work engagement, psychological capital and organisational citizenship behaviour and adopt effective intervention strategies to promote nurses' organisational citizenship behaviour.
