BACKGROUND: Expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) studies aim to understand the influence of genetic variants on gene expression. The colocalization of eQTL mapping and GWAS strategy could help identify essential candidate genes and causal DNA variants vital to complex traits in human and many farm animals. However, eQTL mapping has not been conducted in ducks. It is desirable to know whether eQTLs within GWAS signals contributed to duck economic traits. RESULTS: In this study, we conducted an eQTL analysis using publicly available RNA sequencing data from 820 samples, focusing on liver, muscle, blood, adipose, ovary, spleen, and lung tissues. We identified 113,374 cis-eQTLs for 12,266 genes, a substantial fraction 39.1% of which were discovered in at least two tissues. The cis-eQTLs of blood were less conserved across tissues, while cis-eQTLs from any tissue exhibit a strong sharing pattern to liver tissue. Colocalization between cis-eQTLs and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of 50 traits uncovered new associations between gene expression and potential loci influencing growth and carcass traits. SRSF4, GSS, and IGF2BP1 in liver, NDUFC2 in muscle, ELF3 in adipose, and RUNDC1 in blood could serve as the candidate genes for duck growth and carcass traits. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight substantial differences in genetic regulation of gene expression across duck primary tissues, shedding light on potential mechanisms through which candidate genes may impact growth and carcass traits. Furthermore, this availability of eQTL data offers a valuable resource for deciphering further genetic association signals that may arise from ongoing extensive endeavors aimed at enhancing duck production traits.

RESUMO

UAVs have been widely used in deformation monitoring because of their high availability and flexibility. However, the quality of UAV images is affected by changing attitude and surveying environments, resulting in a low monitoring accuracy. Cross-shaped markers are used to improve the accuracy of UAV monitoring due to their distinct center contrast and absence of eccentricity. However, existing methods cannot rapidly and precisely detect these markers in UAV images. To address these problems, this paper proposes an adaptive Radon-transform-based marker detection and localization method for UAV displacement measurements, focusing on two critical detection parameters, namely, the radius of marker information acquisition and the edge width of the cross-shaped scoring template. The experimental results show that the marker detection rate is 97.2% under different combinations of flight altitudes, radius ratios of marker information acquisition, and marker sizes. Furthermore, the root mean square error of detection and localization is 0.57 pixels, significantly surpassing the performance and accuracy of other methods. We also derive the critical detection radius and appropriate parameter combinations for different heights to further improve the practicality of the method.

Metal sulfide (MS) is regarded as a promising candidate of the anode materials for sodium-ion battery (SIB) with ideal capacity and low cost, yet still suffers from the inferior cycling stability and voltage degradation. Herein, the coordination relationship between the discharge product Na2S with the Na+ (NaPF6) in the electrolyte, is revealed as the root cause for the cycling failure of MS. Na+-coordination effect assistants the dissolution of Na2S, further delocalizing Na2S from the reaction interface under the function of electric field, which leads to the solo oxidation of the discharge product element metal without the participation of Na2S. Besides, the higher highest occupied molecular orbital of Na2S suggest the facilitated Na2S solo oxidation to produce sodium polysulfides (NaPSs). Based on these, lowering the Na+ concentration of the electrolyte is proposed as a potential improvement strategy to change the coordination environment of Na2S, suppressing the side reactions of the solo-oxidation of element metal and Na2S. Consequently, the enhanced conversion reaction reversibility and prolonged cycle life are achieved. This work renders in-depth perception of failure mechanism and inspiration for realizing advanced conversion-type anode.

Domestic sheep and their wild relatives harbor substantial genetic variants that can form the backbone of molecular breeding, but their genome landscapes remain understudied. Here, we present a comprehensive genome resource for wild ovine species, landraces and improved breeds of domestic sheep, comprising high-coverage (∼16.10×) whole genomes of 810 samples from 7 wild species and 158 diverse domestic populations. We detected, in total, ∼121.2 million single nucleotide polymorphisms, ∼61 million of which are novel. Some display significant (P < 0.001) differences in frequency between wild and domestic species, or are private to continent-wide or individual sheep populations. Retained or introgressed wild gene variants in domestic populations have contributed to local adaptation, such as the variation in the HBB associated with plateau adaptation. We identified novel and previously reported targets of selection on morphological and agronomic traits such as stature, horn, tail configuration, and wool fineness. We explored the genetic basis of wool fineness and unveiled a novel mutation (chr25: T7,068,586C) in the 3'-UTR of IRF2BP2 as plausible causal variant for fleece fiber diameter. We reconstructed prehistorical migrations from the Near Eastern domestication center to South-and-Southeast Asia and found two main waves of migrations across the Eurasian Steppe and the Iranian Plateau in the Early and Late Bronze Ages. Our findings refine our understanding of genome variation as shaped by continental migrations, introgression, adaptation, and selection of sheep.

Birds are among the most colourful terrestrial vertebrates, with various plumage colours and patterns. We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on an intercross F2 population of Pekin ducks and mallards (n = 722) and identified a 1.57-Mb genetic region (Chr11: 20,176,480-21,750,101 bp) related to duck melanism. Fine mapping by linkage disequilibrium (LD) and FST analysis narrowed the final candidate region to a region of 22,500 bp (Chr11: 20,677,500-20,700,000 bp) including three coding genes, TCF25, MC1R and TUBB3. Combined with transcriptome and qRT-PCR analysis, MC1R was identified as the unique genetic locus responsible for black plumage in ducks, and it was significantly more highly expressed in the feather bulbs of black ducks. We also identified 52G > A (Chr11: 20,696,354G > A) and 376G > A (Chr11: 20,696,678G > A) mutations in the MC1R coding region that have been widely studied in ducks. In addition, structural variations (SVs) were screened by nanopore sequencing, and no significant SV was found to be associated with the duck black plumage trait. However, we identified four novel single nucleotide polymorphisms in the MC1R regulator region (Chr11: 20,678,412G > A, Chr11: 20,679,236G > A, Chr11: 20,692,496 A > G and Chr11: 20,692,791 A > G) that had a strong association with the black plumage phenotype of ducks and combined with potential changes in transcription binding affinities. The luciferase reporter gene assay demonstrated that Chr11: 20,678,412G > A and Chr11: 20,679,236G > A led to significant promoter activity changes. Our research emphasizes the importance of MC1R regulatory region mutation in determining the duck black plumage phenotype, and these results expand our understanding of the genetic mechanism underlying duck plumage colour.

Computer vision-based displacement measurement techniques are increasingly used for structural health monitoring. However, the vision sensors employed are easily affected by optical turbulence when capturing images of the structure, resulting in displacement measurement errors that significantly reduce the accuracy required in engineering applications. Hence, this paper develops a multi-measurement point method to address this problem by mitigating optical-turbulence errors with spatial randomness. Then, the effectiveness of the proposed method in mitigating optical-turbulence errors is verified by static target experiments, in which the RMSE correction rate can reach up to 82%. Meanwhile, the effects of target size and the number of measurement points on the proposed method are evaluated, and the optimal target design criteria are proposed to improve our method's performance in mitigating optical-turbulence errors under different measurement conditions. Additionally, extensive dynamic target experiments reveal that the proposed method achieves an RMSE correction rate of 69% after mitigating the optical-turbulence error. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method improves the visual displacement measurement accuracy and retains the detailed information of the displacement measurement results.

BACKGROUND: Skin pigmentation is a broadly appearing phenomenon of most animals and humans in nature. Here we used a bird model to investigate why melanin spot deposits on the skin. RESULTS: Our result showed that growth age and the sunlight might induce melanin deposition in bird beak skin which was determined by genetic factors. GWAS helped us to identify two major loci affecting melanin deposition, located on chromosomes 13 and 25, respectively. The fine mapping works narrowed the candidate regions to 0.98 Mb and 1.0 Mb on chromosomes 13 and 25. The MITF and POU2F3 may be the causative genes and synergistically affect melanin deposition during duck beak skin. Furthermore, our data strongly demonstrated that the pathway of melanin metabolism contributes to melanin deposition on the skin. CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that age and sunlight induce melanin deposition in bird beak skin, while heredity is fundamental. The MITF and POU2F3 likely played a synergistic effect on the regulation of melanin synthesis, and their mutations contribute to phenotypic differences in beak melanin deposition among individuals. It is pointed out that melanin deposition in the skin is related to the pathway of melanin metabolism, which provided insights into the molecular regulatory mechanisms and the genetic improvement of the melanin deposition in duck beak.

How animals, particularly livestock, adapt to various climates and environments over short evolutionary time is of fundamental biological interest. Further, understanding the genetic mechanisms of adaptation in indigenous livestock populations is important for designing appropriate breeding programs to cope with the impacts of changing climate. Here, we conducted a comprehensive genomic analysis of diversity, interspecies introgression, and climate-mediated selective signatures in a global sample of sheep and their wild relatives. By examining 600K and 50K genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism data from 3,447 samples representing 111 domestic sheep populations and 403 samples from all their seven wild relatives (argali, Asiatic mouflon, European mouflon, urial, snow sheep, bighorn, and thinhorn sheep), coupled with 88 whole-genome sequences, we detected clear signals of common introgression from wild relatives into sympatric domestic populations, thereby increasing their genomic diversities. The introgressions provided beneficial genetic variants in native populations, which were significantly associated with local climatic adaptation. We observed common introgression signals of alleles in olfactory-related genes (e.g., ADCY3 and TRPV1) and the PADI gene family including in particular PADI2, which is associated with antibacterial innate immunity. Further analyses of whole-genome sequences showed that the introgressed alleles in a specific region of PADI2 (chr2: 248,302,667-248,306,614) correlate with resistance to pneumonia. We conclude that wild introgression enhanced climatic adaptation and resistance to pneumonia in sheep. This has enabled them to adapt to varying climatic and environmental conditions after domestication.

Owing to the limited field of view (FOV) and depth of field (DOF) of a conventional camera, it is quite difficult to employ a single conventional camera to simultaneously measure high-precision displacements at many points on a bridge of dozens or hundreds of meters. Researchers have attempted to obtain a large FOV and wide DOF by a multi-camera system; however, with the growth of the camera number, the cost, complexity and instability of multi-camera systems will increase exponentially. This study proposes a multi-point displacement measurement method for bridges based on a low-cost Scheimpflug camera. The Scheimpflug camera, which meets the Scheimpflug condition, can enlarge the depth of field of the camera without reducing the lens aperture and magnification; thus, when the measurement points are aligned in the depth direction, all points can be clearly observed in a single field of view with a high-power zoom lens. To reduce the impact of camera motions, a motion compensation method applied to the Scheimpflug camera is proposed according to the characteristic that the image plane is not perpendicular to the lens axis in the Scheimpflug camera. Several tests were conducted for performance verification under diverse settings. The results showed that the motion errors in x and y directions were reduced by at least 62% and 92%, respectively, using the proposed method, and the measurements of the camera were highly consistent with LiDAR-based measurements.

Avian egg coloration is shaped by natural selection, but its genetic basis remains unclear. Here, we used genome-wide association analysis and identity by descent to finely map green egg colour to a 179-kb region of Chr4 based on the resequencing of 352 ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) from a segregating population resulting from the mating of Pekin ducks (white-shelled eggs) and mallards (green-shelled eggs). We further narrowed the candidate region to a 30-kb interval by comparing genome divergence in seven indigenous duck populations. Among the genes located in the finely mapped region, only one transcript of the ABCG2 gene (XM_013093252.2) exhibited higher uterine expression in green-shelled individuals than in white-shelled individuals, as supported by transcriptome data from four populations. ABCG2 has been reported to encode a protein that functions as a membrane transporter for biliverdin. Sanger sequencing of the whole 30-kb candidate region (Chr4: 47.41-47.44 Mb) and a plasmid reporter assay helped to identify a single nucleotide polymorphism (Chr4: 47,418,074 G>A) located in a conserved predicted promoter region whose variation may alter ABCG2 transcription activity. We provide a useful molecular marker for duck breeding and contribute data to the research on ecological evolution based on egg colour patterns among birds.

Cold-induced thermogenesis plays an important role in the survival of lambs exposed to low air temperatures. The liver produces and mediates heat production in mammals; however, to date, little is known about the role of liver genes in cold-induced thermogenesis in lambs. In this study, the difference in the liver transcriptome between Altay and Hu ewe lambs was compared. Because of different backgrounds of the two breeds, we hypothesized that the transcriptome profiles of the liver would differ between breeds when exposed to cold. Cold-exposed Altay lambs activated 8 candidate genes (ACTA1, MYH1, MYH2, MYL1, MYL2, TNNC1, TNNC2, and TNNT3) involved in muscle shivering thermogenesis; 3 candidate genes (ATP2A1, SLN, and CKM) involved in muscle nonshivering thermogenesis related to the Ca2+ signal and creatine cycle; and 6 candidate genes (PFKM, ALDOC, PGAM2, ENO2, ENO3, and ENO4) involved in enhancing liver metabolism. In contrast, the liver may not act as the main tissue for thermogenesis in cold-exposed Hu lambs. We concluded that Altay lambs rely on liver-mediated shivering and nonshivering thermogenesis by muscle tissue to a greater extent than Hu lambs. Results from this study could provide a theoretical foundation for the breeding and production of cold-resistant lambs.

BACKGROUND: As a major economic trait in poultry, egg production efficiency attracts widespread interest in breeding and production. However, limited information is available about the underlying genetic architecture of egg production traits in ducks. In this paper, we analyzed six egg production-related traits in 352 F2 ducks derived from reciprocal crosses between mallard and Pekin ducks. RESULTS: Feed conversation ratio (FCR) was positively correlated with feed intake but negatively correlated with egg-related traits, including egg weight and egg production, both phenotypically and genetically. Estimates of pedigree-based heritability were higher than 0.2 for all traits investigated, except hip-width. Based on whole-genome sequencing data, we conducted genome-wide association studies to identify genomic regions associated with these traits. In total, 11 genomic regions were associated with FCR. No genomic regions were identified as significantly associated with hip-width, total feed intake, average daily feed intake, and total egg production. Analysis of selective sweeps between mallard and Pekin ducks confirmed three of these genomic regions on chromosomes 13, 3 and 6. Within these three regions, variants in candidate genes that were in linkage disequilibrium with the GWAS leader single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (Chr13:2,196,728, P = 7.05 × 10-14; Chr3:76,991,524, P = 1.06 × 10-12; Chr6:20,356,803, P = 1.14 × 10-10) were detected. Thus, we identified 31 potential candidate genes associated with FCR, among which the strongest candidates are those that are highly expressed in tissues involved in reproduction and nervous system functions of ducks: CNTN4, CRBR, GPR63, KLHL32, FHL5, TRNT1, MANEA, NDUFAF4, and SCD. CONCLUSIONS: For the first time, we report the identification of genomic regions that are associated with FCR in ducks and our results illustrate the genomic changes that occurred during their domestication and are involved in egg production efficiency.

Egg internal quality traits are important traits related to egg production in poultry industry. To better understand the genetic architecture of egg internal quality traits in ducks, we performed genetic parameters estimates and a genome-wide association study (GWAS). The phenotypic values of egg weight, yolk color, albumin height (AH), yolk weight, and Haugh unit (HU) were collected individually from 352 F2 laying ducks produced by reciprocal crosses between mallards and Pekin ducks, and their genotypes were assayed by whole genome re-sequencing. The results showed that the AH and HU traits have a clear coefficient of variance, around 15% for both mallards and Pekin ducks. The pedigree-based genetic parameters estimates rane from 0.26 to 0.71 for all eight egg quality traits, while the highest heritability was 0.71 for egg weight. The GWAS showed that a clear signal was associated with AH and HU traits. The locus zoom analysis and conditional GWAS helped to narrow the candidate region to ~5.8-Mb spanning from 14.7 to 20.5 Mb on Chromosome 5, which harbored 111 candidate genes. MUC6 and LDLRAD3 were finally promised as the major candidate genes affecting albumen composition. Our data revealed the egg internal quality traits for the first time in ducks, which provides a theoretical basis and technological support for improving duck egg internal quality.

Detecting changes between the existing building basemaps and newly acquired high spatial resolution remotely sensed (HRS) images is a time-consuming task. This is mainly because of the data labeling and poor performance of hand-crafted features. In this paper, for efficient feature extraction, we propose a fully convolutional feature extractor that is reconstructed from the deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) and pre-trained on the Pascal VOC dataset. Our proposed method extract pixel-wise features, and choose salient features based on a random forest (RF) algorithm using the existing basemaps. A data cleaning method through cross-validation and label-uncertainty estimation is also proposed to select potential correct labels and use them for training an RF classifier to extract the building from new HRS images. The pixel-wise initial classification results are refined based on a superpixel-based graph cuts algorithm and compared to the existing building basemaps to obtain the change map. Experiments with two simulated and three real datasets confirm the effectiveness of our proposed method and indicate high accuracy and low false alarm rate.

Fat-tailed Altay sheep are indigenous to the Altay prefecture and well adapted to severe cold and sparse pasture of poor quality. Hu sheep were introduced to this region in the 1970s and are raised mainly in feedlots. We hypothesized that the dietary energy utilization would differ between breeds and predicted that Altay sheep would be more efficient than Hu sheep, in particular at a low air temperature. To test this prediction, we examined growth performance, apparent digestibilities, rumen fermentation and serum metabolites in Altay (32 ± 2.6 kg) and Hu sheep (31 ± 2.7 kg) at air temperatures of -5 and 20°C. Average daily gain (ADG), feed and metabolizable energy intakes were greater in Altay than in Hu sheep (p < .01), and all were greater at -5°C than 20°C (p < .01). Body mass gain-to-feed intake ratio was higher in Altay than in Hu sheep (p < .001), but was not affected by air temperature (p > .10). Rumen total volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration was greater in Hu than in Altay sheep (p < .05) and was greater at 20°C than at -5°C (p < .05), while rumen microbial protein concentration was greater in Altay than in Hu sheep (p < .05). Rectal temperature was higher at -5°C than 20°C (p < .05) and was similar between breeds (p > .05). Serum glucose, non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) and urea-N concentrations were higher in Hu than in Altay sheep (p < .05). It was concluded that Altay sheep are better able to cope with poor quality diets as they had higher digestibility of nutrients, ADG and body mass gain-to-feed intake ratio than Hu sheep.

Interleukin-35 (IL-35) is a recently identified heterodimeric cytokine in the IL-12 family. It consists of an IL-12 subunit α chain (P35) and IL-27 subunit Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3 (EBI3) ß chain. Unlike the other IL-12 family members, it signals through four unconventional receptors: IL-12Rß2-IL-27Rα, IL-12Rß2-IL-12Rß2, IL-12Rß2-GP130, and GP130-GP130. Interleukin-35 signaling is mainly carried out through the signal transducer and activator of transcription family of proteins. It is secreted not only by regulatory T (Treg) cells, but also by CD8+ Treg cells, activated dendritic cells and regulatory B cells. It exhibits immunosuppressive functions distinct from those of other members of the IL-12 family; these are mediated primarily by the inhibition of T helper type 17 cell differentiation and promotion of Treg cell proliferation. Interleukin-35 plays a critical role in several immune-associated diseases, such as autoimmune diseases and viral and bacterial infections, as well as in tumors. In this review, we summarize the structure and function of IL-35, describe its role in immune-related disorders, and discuss the mechanisms by which it regulates the development and progression of diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, collagen-induced arthritis, allergic airway disease, hepatitis, and tumors. The recent research on IL-35, combined with improved techniques of studying receptors and signal transduction pathways, allows for consideration of IL-35 as a novel immunotherapy target.

RESUMO

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent mRNA modification in higher eukaryotes. Recent studies suggest that m6A has a regulatory role in mRNA degradation and translation initiation or efficiency, involving in cell fate determination in yeast, plants, and stem cells of mammalian. Trypanosoma brucei (T. brucei) regulates gene expression through post-transcriptional fashion, which heavily relies on mRNA cis-motifs. However, internal mRNA modification in T. brucei has not been reported yet. Here we found m6A modification is abundant in T. brucei and presented a transcriptome wide methylome of m6A in both life stages of T. brucei. We identified 355 and 95 peaks in procyclic form and blood stream form trypanosomes respectively. A consensus motif of CAU was shared in both life stages of T. brucei. mRNA abundance of m6A-containing genes is higher in procyclic form and tend to be down-regulated in bloodstream form trypanosomes. Furthermore, m6A-containing transcripts harbor relative longer half-lives, and are enriched in pathways of cell morphology and movement in procyclic form trypanosomes. By m6A-containing RNA pulldown in both life stages, we identified TRRM2 as a potential m6A reader in T. brucei. Uncovering the m6A methylome and its binding proteins may provide a new post-transcriptional regulatory pathway in T. brucei.

BACKGROUND: Salinomycin is a monocarboxylic polyether antibiotic and is a potential chemotherapy drug. Our previous studies showed that salinomycin inhibited cell growth and targeted CSCs in prostate cancer. However, the precise target of salinomycin action is unclear. METHODS: In this work, we analyzed and identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs) after treatment with or without salinomycin using a gene expression microarray in vitro (PC-3 cells) and in vivo (NOD/SCID mice xenograft model generated from implanted PC-3 cells). Western blotting and immunohistochemical staining were used to analyze the expression of ATP2A3 and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress biomarkers. Flow cytometry was used to analyze the cell cycle, apoptosis and intracellular Ca2+ concentration. RESULTS: A significantly upregulated gene, ATPase sarcoplasmatic/endoplasmatic reticulum Ca2+ transporting 3 (ATP2A3), was successfully identified. In subsequent studies, we found that ATP2A3 overexpression could trigger ER stress and exert anti-cancer effects in PC-3 and DU145 cells. ATP2A3 was slightly expressed, but the ER stress biomarkers showed strong staining in prostate cancer tissues. We also found that salinomycin could trigger ER stress, which might be related to ATP2A3-mediated Ca2+ release in PC-3 cells. Furthermore, we found that salinomycin-triggered ER stress could promote apoptosis and thus exert anti-cancer effects in prostate cancer cells. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that ATP2A3 might be one of the potential targets for salinomycin, which can inhibit Ca2+ release and trigger ER stress to exert anti-cancer effects.

The Gal4/UAS system provides a powerful tool to analyze the function of genes. The system has been employed extensively in zebrafish; however, cytotoxicity of Gal4 and methylation of UAS can hinder future applications of Gal4/UAS in zebrafish. In this study, we provide quantitative data on the cytotoxicity of Gal4-FF and KalTA4 in zebrafish embryos. A better balance between induction efficiency and toxicity was shown when the injection dosage was 20 pg for Gal4-FF and 30 pg for KalTA4. We tested the DNA methylation of UAS in different copies (3×, 5×, 7×, 9×, 11×, and 14×), and the results showed, for the first time, that the degree of UAS methylation increases with the increase in the copy number of UAS. We detected insertions of the Tol2-mediated transgene in the Gal4 line and found as many as three sites of insertion, on average; only about 20% of individuals contained single-site insertion in F1 generation. We suggested that the screening of Gal4 lines with single-site insertion is essential when Tol2-mediated Gal4 transgenic lines are created. Moreover, we designed a novel 5 × non-repetitive UAS (5 × nrUAS) to reduce the appeal of multicopy UAS as a target for methylation. Excitingly, the 5 × nrUAS is less prone to methylation compared to 5 × UAS. We hope the results will facilitate the future application of the Gal4/UAS system in zebrafish research.

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to estimate the genetic parameters and breeding values of breast meat related traits of Pekin ducks. Selection response was also determined by using ultrasound breast muscle thickness (BMT) measurements in combination with bosom breadth (BB) and keel length (KL) values. METHODS: The traits analyzed were breast meat weight (BMW), body weight (BW), breast meat percentage (BMP) and the three parameters of breast meat (BB, KL, and BMT). These measurements were derived from studying 15,781 Pekin ducks selected from 10 generations based on breast meat weight. Genetic parameters and breeding value were estimated for the analysis of the breeding process. RESULTS: Estimated heritability of BMW and BMP were moderate (0.23 and 0.16, respectively), and heritability of BW was high (0.48). Other traits such as BB, KL, and BMT indicated moderate heritability ranging between 0.11 and 0.28. Significant phenotypic correlations of BMW with BW and BMP were discovered (p<0.05), and genetic correlations of BMW with BW and BMP were positive and high (0.83 and 0.66, respectively). It was noted that BMW had positive correlations with all the other traits. Generational average estimated breeding values of all traits increased substantially over the course of selection, which demonstrated that the ducks responded efficiently to increased breast meat yield after 10 generations of breeding. CONCLUSION: The results indicated that duck BMW had the potential to be increased through genetic selection with positive effects on BW and BMP. The ultrasound BMT, in combination with the measurement of BB and KL, is shown to be essential and effective in the process of high breast meat yield duck breeding.
