RESUMO

Leaf angle is a major trait of ideal architecture, which is considered to influence rice (Oryza sativa) cultivation and grain yield. Although a few mutants with altered rice leaf inclination angles have been reported, the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we showed that a WRKY transcription factor gene, OsWRKY72, was highly expressed in the leaf sheath and lamina joint. Phenotypic analyses showed that oswrky72 mutants had smaller leaf angles than the wild type, while OsWRKY72 overexpression lines exhibited an increased leaf angle. This observation suggests that OsWRKY72 functions as a positive regulator, promoting the enlargement of the leaf angle. Our bioinformatics analysis identified LAZY1 as the downstream gene of OsWRKY72. Electrophoretic mobility shift assays and dual-luciferase analysis revealed that OsWRKY72 directly inhibited LAZY1 by binding to its promoter. Moreover, knocking out OsWRKY72 enhanced shoot gravitropism, which contrasted with the phenotype of lazy1 plants. These results imply that OsWRKY72 regulates the leaf angle through gravitropism by reducing the expression of LAZY1. In addition, OsWRKY72 could directly regulate the expression of other leaf angle-related genes such as FLOWERING LOCUS T-LIKE 12 (OsFTL12) and WALL-ASSOCIATED KINASE 11 (OsWAK11). Our study indicates that OsWRKY72 contributes positively to the expansion of the leaf angle by interfering with shoot gravitropism in rice.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a destructive respiratory disease characterized by alveolar structural destruction and excessive inflammation responses. Aerobic glycolysis of macrophages plays a crucial role in the pathophysiology of ALI. Previous studies have shown that the expression of the key rate-limiting enzyme 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3) in inflammatory cells is significantly increased, which promotes an increase in the rate of glycolysis in inflammatory cells. However, little is known about the biological functions of PFKFB3 in macrophage inflammation and ALI. In this study, we identified that PFKFB3 is markedly increased in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI mice and macrophages. Knockdown of pfkfb3 attenuated LPS-induced glycolytic flux, decreased the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and inactivated NF-κB signaling pathway in macrophages. Subsequently, we found that dehydrocostus lactone (DL), a natural sesquiterpene lactone, significantly decreased both the mRNA and protein levels of PFKFB3. Furthermore, it reduced the release of inflammatory cytokines and inactivated NF-κB pathways in vitro. Accordingly, DL alleviated LPS-induced pulmonary edema and reduced the infiltration of inflammatory cells in mouse lung tissue. In summary, our study reveals the vital role of PFKFB3 in LPS-induced inflammation and discovers a novel molecular mechanism underlying DL's protective effects on ALI.

Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68), which causes severe respiratory diseases and irreversible central nervous system damage, has become a serious public health problem worldwide. However, the mechanisms by which EV-D68 exerts neurotoxicity remain unclear. Thus, we aimed to analyze the effects of EV-D68 infection on the cleavage, subcellular translocation, and pathogenic aggregation of TAR DNA-binding protein 43 kDa (TDP-43) in respiratory or neural cells. The results showed that EV-D68-encoded proteases 2A and 3C induced TDP-43 translocation and cleavage, respectively. Specifically, 3C cleaved residue 327Q of TDP-43. The 3C-mediated cleaved TDP-43 fragments had substantially decreased protein solubility compared with the wild-type TDP-43. Hence, 3C activity promoted TDP-43 aggregation, which exerted cytotoxicity to diverse human cells, including glioblastoma T98G cells. The effects of commercially available antiviral drugs on 3C-mediated TDP-43 cleavage were screened, and the results revealed lopinavir as a potent inhibitor of EV-D68 3C protease. Overall, these results suggested TDP-43 as a conserved host target of EV-D68 3C. This study is the first to provide evidence on the involvement of TDP-43 dysregulation in EV-D68 pathogenesis. IMPORTANCE Over the past decade, the incidence of enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) infection has increased worldwide. EV-D68 infection can cause different respiratory symptoms and severe neurological complications, including acute flaccid myelitis. Thus, elucidating the mechanisms underlying EV-D68 toxicity is important to develop novel methods to prevent EV-D68 infection-associated diseases. This study shows that EV-D68 infection triggers the translocalization, cleavage, and aggregation of TDP-43, an intracellular protein closely related to degenerative neurological disorders. The viral protease 3C decreased TDP-43 solubility, thereby exerting cytotoxicity to host cells, including human glioblastoma cells. Thus, counteracting 3C activity is an effective strategy to relieve EV-D68-triggered cell death. Cytoplasmic aggregation of TDP-43 is a hallmark of degenerative diseases, contributing to neural cell damage and central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The findings of this study on EV-D68-induced TDP-43 formation extend our understanding of virus-mediated cytotoxicity and the potential risks of TDP-43 dysfunction-related cognitive impairment and neurological symptoms in infected patients.

Schwannomatosis is characterized by the development of multiple schwannomas without evidence of vestibular tumors. Segmental schwannomatosis is defined as being limited to one limb or five or fewer contiguous segments of the spine. We report a case of a 20-year-old male with the painful masses of the left upper extremity with associated numbness and paresthesia in the ulnar nerve distribution. The high-frequency ultrasound showed that the ulnar nerve fascicles were enlarged and expanded with beadlike growth. The patient underwent surgery twice and all the tumors were pathologically confirmed to be schwannomas. Together, the medical history, imaging, and pathology findings indicated the diagnosis of segmental schwannomatosis. By the imaging diagnostic tools, MRI is the most commonly used in assistance with diagnosis of segmental schwannomatosis while high-frequency ultrasonography is rare. In this paper, we discuss the value of high-frequency ultrasonography in the diagnosis of this rare disease. This case report provides a deeper understanding of segmental schwannomatosis and may help improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: The experiences and perceptions of geriatric specialist nurses are pivotal to understanding the complexities of managing delirium and to developing effective nursing interventions. This qualitative study aims to explore these experiences and perceptions to inform the enhancement of clinical geriatric nursing and care practices. METHODS: Utilizing a qualitative exploratory design, this research engaged a convenience sample of geriatric specialist nurses at a tertiary hospital in Shanghai, China through focus groups and semi-structured interviews. Data were rigorously analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method, which facilitated the identification of themes that emerged from the narratives of the geriatric specialist nurses. RESULTS: The thematic analysis yielded three major themes that encapsulate the nurses' experiences and perceptions. Theme 1: Understanding of Delirium, highlighted the nurses' awareness of the condition's significance, yet it was often deprioritized due to the pressing demands of managing more acute and immediately life-threatening conditions. Theme 2: Barriers in Application, brought to light the multifaceted challenges faced by nurses, including language barriers, the frequency and consistency of delirium assessments, the social determinants of health, and the nurses' own competencies in assessment. Theme 3: Evolution of Nursing Approaches, detailed the adaptive strategies employed by nurses, such as managing nursing adverse events, improving communication with patients' families, and adopting a proactive stance towards long-term patient outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that while geriatric specialist nurses recognize the importance of delirium assessment, there are several barriers to effective application. The study underscores the imperative for the advancement of more refined delirium assessment and care protocols, tailored to address the unique requirements of geriatric nursing care.

The heading date of rice is a crucial agronomic characteristic that influences its adaptability to different regions and its productivity potential. Despite the involvement of WRKY transcription factors in various biological processes related to development, the precise mechanisms through which these transcription factors regulate the heading date in rice have not been well elucidated. The present study identified OsWRKY11 as a WRKY transcription factor which exhibits a pivotal function in the regulation of the heading date in rice through a comprehensive screening of a clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats (CRISPR) ‒ CRISPR-associated nuclease 9 mutant library that specifically targets the WRKY genes in rice. The heading date of oswrky11 mutant plants and OsWRKY11-overexpressing plants was delayed compared with that of the wild-type plants under short-day and long-day conditions. Mechanistic investigation revealed that OsWRKY11 exerts dual effects on transcriptional promotion and suppression through direct and indirect DNA binding, respectively. Under normal conditions, OsWRKY11 facilitates flowering by directly inducing the expression of OsMADS14 and OsMADS15. The presence of elevated levels of OsWRKY11 protein promote formation of a ternary protein complex involving OsWRKY11, Heading date 1 (Hd1), and Days to heading date 8 (DTH8), and this complex then suppresses the expression of Ehd1, which leads to a delay in the heading date. Subsequent investigation revealed that a mild drought condition resulted in a modest increase in OsWRKY11 expression, promoting heading. Conversely, under severe drought conditions, a significant upregulation of OsWRKY11 led to the suppression of Ehd1 expression, ultimately causing a delay in heading date. Our findings uncover a previously unacknowledged mechanism through which the transcription factor OsWRKY11 exerts a dual impact on the heading date by directly and indirectly binding to the promoters of target genes.

Spastic paraplegia type 4 (SPG4) is the most common type of autosomally inherited spastic paraplegia. Its main clinical features include typical simple hereditary spastic paraplegia, with neurological impairments limited to lower limb spasticity, hypertonic bladder dysfunction, and mild weakening of lower limb vibration sensation, without accompanying features such as nerve atrophy, ataxia, cognitive impairment, seizures, and muscle tone disorders. SPAST is the main pathogenic gene underlying SPG4, and various pathogenic SPAST variants have been discovered. This disease has featured a high degree of clinical heterogeneity, and the same pathogenic variant can have different age of onset and severity among different patients and even within the same family. There is a lack of systematic research on the correlation between the genotype and phenotype of SPG4, and the pathogenic mechanism has remained controversial. This article has provided a review for the clinical characteristics, pathogenic gene characteristics, correlation between the genotype and phenotype, and pathogenic mechanism of this disease, with an aim to provide reference for its clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the predictive value of various indicators in the application of C-CHEWS (Cardiac-Children's Hospital Early Warning Score) during the transition period of infants with left-to-right shunt congenital heart disease after surgery. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 229 infants who underwent surgery for left-to-right shunt congenital heart disease at a tertiary pediatric hospital in Anhui Province from January 2019 to March 2022. The infants' status was evaluated using C-CHEWS scores within 1 hour of transfer from the ICU to the transitional ward. A cutoff score 6 was used, with scores ≤6 defining the control group and scores ≥7 defining the observation group. The predictive value of various indicators during this period was analyzed. Results: The 229 infant patients were divided into the control group (n = 154) and the observation group (n = 75). All infants received sufficient oxygen inhalation, and 210 infants underwent VIS (Vasoactive-inotropic Score) evaluation, with 137 in the control group and 73 in the observation group, showing a statistically significant difference between the two groups. All infants were discharged without recurrence of ICU admission within 48 hours. In the C-CHEWS evaluation, medical staff attention and parental concern were assigned 1 point, while the consciousness level received 0 points. The respiratory system scores ranged from 2 to 3 points without a statistically significant difference, whereas the cardiovascular system scores ranged from 0 to 3 points and showed a statistically significant difference. Among the 75 observation group patients, 43 were boys, accounting for 57.33%. Conclusions: During the transition period after surgery for congenital heart disease in infants, monitoring the cardiovascular system, along with the effective application of VIS, through C-CHEWS scoring, can help detect warning signs. Focusing on managing cardiovascular function is crucial to reduce the risk of disease deterioration, promoting comfort, and aiding in the infants' recovery.

Auxin response factors (ARFs) are critical components of the auxin signaling pathway, and are involved in diverse plant biological processes. However, ARF genes have not been investigated in flax (Linum usitatissimum L.), an important oilseed and fiber crop. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed the ARF gene family and identified 33 LuARF genes unevenly distributed on the 13 chromosomes of Longya-10, an oil-use flax variety. Detailed analysis revealed wide variation among the ARF family members and predicted nuclear localization for all proteins. Nineteen LuARFs contained a complete ARF structure, including DBD, MR, and CTD, whereas the other fourteen lacked the CTD. Phylogenetic analysis grouped the LuARFs into four (I-V) clades. Combined with sequence analysis, the LuARFs from the same clade showed structural conservation, implying functional redundancy. Duplication analysis identified twenty-seven whole-genome-duplicated LuARF genes and four tandem-duplicated LuARF genes. These duplicated gene pairs' Ka/Ks ratios suggested a strong purifying selection pressure on the LuARF genes. Collinearity analysis revealed that about half of the LuARF genes had homologs in other species, indicating a relatively conserved nature of the ARFs. The promoter analysis identified numerous hormone- and stress-related elements, and the qRT-PCR experiment revealed that all LuARF genes were responsive to phytohormone (IAA, GA3, and NAA) and stress (PEG, NaCl, cold, and heat) treatments. Finally, expression profiling of LuARF genes in different tissues by qRT-PCR indicated their specific functions in stem or capsule growth. Thus, our findings suggest the potential functions of LuARFs in flax growth and response to an exogenous stimulus, providing a basis for further functional studies on these genes.

We evaluated the impact of cervical cerclage combined with one or more uterine contraction inhibitors in persistent inhibition of uterine contraction for the treatment of late abortion and premature delivery. This retrospective case series study analysed the medical data of 58 patients who underwent cervical cerclage for cervical insufficiency and simultaneously received one or more uterine contraction inhibitors (indomethacin, ritodrine, and atosiban) and magnesium sulphate at the Zibo Maternal and Child Health Hospital between January 2019 and December 2020.Patients are normal pregnancy who received cervical cerclage without complications. The rate of successful treatment was 74.14% (43/58). The prolonged gestation duration was 16.42 ± 7.84 weeks, and the average delivery gestational age was 35.91 ± 5.16 weeks. The longest duration of treatment with a uterine contraction inhibitor or inhibitors in combination or with magnesium sulphate alone was 15.34 ± 13.16 days, and nine cases developed adverse reactions. Persistent uterine contraction inhibition after cervical cerclage could prolong pregnancy and improve pregnancy outcomes.Impact statementWhat is already known on this subject? A crucial reason for treatment failure of cervical cerclage is that uterine contraction was not effectively inhibited.What do the results of this study add? Persistent inhibition of uterine contraction after cervical cerclage prolonged pregnancy duration, increased gestational age at delivery, and improved pregnancy outcomes.What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? This study may provide a clinical basis for prolonging gestational age, preventing late abortion and premature delivery, and improving the survival rate and quality of life of premature infants.

Plants dynamically synchronize their flowering time with changes in the internal and external environments through a variety of signaling pathways to maximize fitness. In the last two decades, the major pathways associated with flowering, including the photoperiod, vernalization, age, autonomous, gibberellin, and ambient temperature pathways, have been extensively analyzed. In recent years, an increasing number of signals, such as sugar, thermosensory, stress, and certain hormones, have been shown to be involved in fine-tuning flowering time. Among these signals, the jasmonate signaling pathway has a function in the determination of flowering time that has not been systematically summarized. In this review, we present an overview of current knowledge of jasmonate control of flowering and discuss jasmonate crosstalk with other signals (such as gibberellin, defense, and touch) during floral transition.

C4 photosynthesis increases the efficiency of carbon fixation by spatially separating high concentrations of molecular oxygen from Rubisco. The specialized leaf anatomy required for this separation evolved independently many times. The morphology of C4 root systems is also distinctive and adapted to support high rates of photosynthesis; however, little is known about the molecular mechanisms that have driven the evolution of C4 root system architecture. Using a mutant screen in the C4 model plant Setaria italica, we identify Siaux1-1 and Siaux1-2 as root system architecture mutants. Unlike in S. viridis, AUX1 promotes lateral root development in S. italica. A cell by cell analysis of the Siaux1-1 root apical meristem revealed changes in the distribution of cell volumes in all cell layers and a dependence of the frequency of protophloem and protoxylem strands on SiAUX1. We explore the molecular basis of the role of SiAUX1 in seedling development using an RNAseq analysis of wild-type and Siaux1-1 plants and present novel targets for SiAUX1-dependent gene regulation. Using a selection sweep and haplotype analysis of SiAUX1, we show that Hap-2412TT in the promoter region of SiAUX1 is an allele which is associated with lateral root number and has been strongly selected for during Setaria domestication.

Artificial intelligence in radiotherapy (shortly, Intelligent radiotherapy) mainly involves big data, deep learning, extended reality, digital twin, radiomics, Internet plus and Internet of Things (IoT), which establish an automatic and intelligent network platform consisting of radiotherapy preparation, target volume delineation, treatment planning, radiation delivery, quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC), prognosis judgment and post-treatment follow-up. Intelligent radiotherapy is an interdisciplinary frontier discipline in infancy. The review aims to summary the important implements of intelligent radiotherapy in various areas and put forward the future of unmanned radiotherapy center.

BACKGROUNDS: Microwave sensitization nanoplatform, integrating multiple functional units for improving tumor selectivity, is of great significance for clinical tumor microwave treatment. Lanthanide europium metal organic framework (EuMOF) is expected to be a theranostic nanoplatform owing to its unique luminescent and microwave sensitization properties. However, it is difficult to be applied to complicated biological systems for EuMOF due to its rapid degradation induced by the solvent molecular and ionic environment. In this work, a luminescent EuMOF nanocomposite (EuMOF@ZIF/AP-PEG, named EZAP) was designed, which brought the multifunctional characteristics of microwave sensitization, fluorescence imaging and drug loading. RESULTS: Lamellar EuMOF was synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Through the charge adsorption mechanism, the zeolite imidazole framework (ZIF) structure was intensively assembled on the surface of EuMOF to realize the protection. Then, through in-situ Apatinib drug loading and PEG modification, EZAP nanocomposite was finally obtained. Apatinib (AP) was a kind of chemotherapy drug approved by Food and Drug Administration for targeted therapy of tumors. PEG modification increased long-term circulation of EZAP nanocomposite. The physical and chemical structure and properties of EuMOF@ZIF (EZ) were systematically represented, indicating the successful synthesis of the nanocomposite. The toxic and side effects were negligible at a safe dose. The growth of human liver cancer cells and murine liver cancer cells in vitro was significantly inhibited, and the combined microwave-thermal therapy and chemotherapy in vivo achieved high anti-cancer efficacy. Moreover, EZAP nanocomposite possessed bright red fluorescence, which can be applied for tumor imaging in tumor-bearing mice in vivo. CONCLUSION: Therefore, EZAP nanocomposite showed high microwave sensitization, excellent fluorescence properties and outstanding drug loading capacity, establishing a promising theranostic nanoplatform for tumor therapy and fluorescence imaging. This work proposes a unique strategy to design for the first time a multifunctional nanoplatform with lanthanide metal organic frameworks for biological applications in tumor therapy and diagnosis.

Covalent organic frameworks with tunable porous crystallinity and outstanding stability have exhibited fascinating pretreatment performance as ideal extraction media. Herein, the ß-ketoenamine-linked TpPa-1 synthesized by 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol and paraphenylenediamine was employed as the absorbent for online micro-solid phase extraction of trace bisphenols combined with high-performance liquid chromatography detection. A series of characterizations indicated that the TpPa-1 possessed large surface areas, high stability, and hydrophobicity. The main experimental parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were optimized in detail. Compared with four commercial sorbents, the TpPa-1 exhibited superior enrichment capacity for extracting bisphenols. Under the optimum conditions, the established method demonstrated a wide linear range and high sensitivity with the limit of detection ranging from 0.05-0.06 µg/L. Furthermore, the developed method was successfully applied to determine bisphenols in plastic samples. Bisphenol A was actually detected in a transparent box with a concentration of 0.31 µg/g, and the recoveries of the four bisphenols in the plastic samples were 80.5-116% with the relative standard deviation less than 9.2%. Such performance was attributed to recognition affinity, including the π-π affinity, hydrophobic effect, and hydrogen bond. These results demonstrated that TpPa-1 possessed great potential to be an excellent pretreatment medium for online separation and analysis of trace analytes in complex samples.

RESUMO

Here, we report a design strategy for constructing supramolecular organic frameworks by introducing 1H-pyrazole groups to aromatic cores as non-coplanar molecules to form diverse supramolecular assemblies through multiple 1H-pyrazole [N-H···N] hydrogen bonds as well as other weak interactions. The new supramolecular organic frameworks displayed interesting crystallization-induced emission (CIE) behavior.

PURPOSE: To investigate the daily setup, interfraction motion, variability in the junction areas, and dosimetric effect in craniospinal irradiation (CSI) patients. METHODS: Fifteen CSI patients who had undergone split-field IMRT were followed in the study. Previous, middle, and posttreatment, each target volume position was evaluated using the ExacTrac system. Interfraction and intrafraction motions, the margin of the junction in adjacent targets volumes, and the dosimetric effect of the longitudinal residual error were analyzed. RESULTS: The lowest attainment rate within the tolerance of the initial setup error was 66.79% in six directions. The values of the initial error were within 15 mm (SD 4.5 mm) in the translation direction and 5° (SD 1.3°) in the rotation direction after the transposition of the treatment isocenter. With the guidance of the ExacTrac system, the interfraction and intrafraction residual errors were almost within the tolerance after correction, the margin of CTV-to-PCTV was in the range of target expansion criteria. The residual longitudinal errors resulted in only slight changes in the mean doses of PGTV and PCTV, while the maximum dose of the spinal cord increased by 16.1%. The patients did not exhibit any side-effects by the overall treatment during the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS: Position correction is necessary after setup and the transposition of the treatment isocenter. Intra-fraction motion in the lateral direction should be monitored throughout treatment. The position errors in junction areas are almost within the tolerance after correction. The patients did not exhibit any side-effects by the overall treatment.

A boy, aged 2 years and 4 months, had a sudden onset of blepharoptosis of the right eyelid, accompanied by the mouth deviated to the right side, drinking cough, nystagmus, and developmental regression. Cranial MRI showed softening lesions formed after infarction of the right dorsolateral medulla oblongata, while head CT angiography showed no imaging of the proximal part of the V4 segment of the right vertebral artery. The child was diagnosed with dorsolateral medulla oblongata syndrome and was treated with gamma globulin to regulate immune function, with mannitol to reduce neuronal edema, with low-molecular-weight heparin sodium to improve local hypercoagulation of occluded blood vessels, with hyperbaric oxygen to improve local ischemia and hypoxia and promote the recovery of brain function, and with neuromuscular electrical stimulation to promote the recovery of neuromuscular function. Before discharge, only mild right ataxia and Horner syndrome remained. This article reports the first case of infantile dorsolateral medulla oblongata syndrome and provides experience for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

BACKGROUND: Neurofibromas originating from vagus nerves are rarely reported in the literature. In particular, plexiform neurofibromas of the bilateral cervical vagus nerve are extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: A 21-year-old female presented with a 2-year history of swelling on the right side of her neck. Physical examination revealed a soft-tissue mass on the right side of her neck. Ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging showed a tumor centered in the right carotid sheath between the internal jugular vein and the common carotid artery. In addition, a similar nodular mass in the left carotid sheath was detected on US. The right mass was surgically resected; histopathological examination revealed a neurofibroma. CONCLUSIONS: US can be a valuable method for preoperative evaluation of cervical mass, as it is capable of displaying the vagus nerve and provides sufficient diagnostic information. The cervical vagal neurofibroma can manifest as solitary or multifocal lesion. Bilateral neurofibromas are usually associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Early diagnosis and prompt surgical treatment should be considered.

Xiphinema japonicum n. sp., isolated in Ningbo, China, from the rhizosphere of Podocarpus macrophyllus (Thunb.) imported from Japan is described. The new species belongs to Xiphinema non-americanum group 7 and is characterized by medium body length (3.0-3.7 mm), total stylet length 190-201 µm, vulva located anteriorly (V = 30.5%-35.3%), two equally developed female genital branches without uterine differentiation (no Z or pseudo-Z organ and/or spines in the uteri), short tail, convex-conoid with subdigitate peg in terminus, and absence of males. The species has four juvenile developmental stages (J1 was not found). The polytomous identification codes of the new species are (codes in parentheses are exceptions) A4-B4-C4-D5(4)-E2(3)-F3(4)-G2(3)-H2-I3-J4-K?-L1. Morphologically, the new species is mainly characterized by combination of the codes C4 and E2(3), making the species unique and different from other species in the genus. It is most similar to the North American species Xiphinema bakeri, herein considered as its cryptic species by the nature of high morphological similarity, but with significant differences in DNA sequences in nearly full length 18S, ITS1, 28S D2/D3, and cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 sequences. The second morphologically close species is Xiphinema setariae from which the new species could be separated based on morphological and molecular characters. Morphological comparisons with phylogenetically related species are also discussed.
