RESUMO

Imaging through scattering layers based on the optical memory effect (OME) concept has been widely investigated in recent years. Among many scattering scenarios, it is very important to recover hidden targets with proper spatial distribution in the scene where multiple targets out of the OME range exist. In this Letter, we put forward a method for multi-target object scattering imaging. With the help of intensity correlation between the structured illumination patterns and recorded speckle images, the relative position of all hidden targets can be obtained and the movement of the targets within the OME range can be tracked. We experimentally implement scattering imaging with 16 targets and the motion tracking of them. Our results present a significant advance in a large field of view scattering imaging with multiple targets.

RESUMO

Modulation of the ligands and coordination environment of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been an effective and relatively unexplored avenue for improving the anode performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). In this study, three MOFs are synthesized, namely, M4 (o-TTFOB)(bpm)2 (H2 O)2 (where M is Mn, Zn, and Cd; o-H8 TTFOB is ortho-tetrathiafulvalene octabenzoate; and bpm is 2,2'-bipyrimidine), based on a new ligand o-H8 TTFOB with two adjacent carboxylates on one phenyl, which allows us to establish the impact of metal coordination on the performance of these MOFs as anode materials in LIBs. Mn-o-TTFOB and Zn-o-TTFOB, with two more uncoordinated oxygen atoms from o-TTFOB8- , show higher reversible specific capacities of 1249 mAh g-1 and 1288 mAh g-1 under 200 mA g-1 after full activation. In contrast, Cd-o-TTFOB shows a reversible capacity of 448 mAh g-1 under the same condition due to the lack of uncoordinated oxygen atoms. Crystal structure analysis, cyclic voltammetry measurements of the half-cell configurations, and density functional theory calculations have been performed to explain the lithium storage mechanism, diffusion kinetics, and structure-function relationship. This study demonstrates the advantages of MOFs with high designability in the fabrication of LIBs.

RESUMO

Optical speckle fields with both non-Rayleigh statistics and nondiffracting characteristics in propagation are an important light source for many applications. However, tailoring either non-Rayleigh statistical speckles or nondiffracting speckles are only investigated independently in previous studies. Here, we report the first observation of optical speckles that remain diffraction-free over a long axial distance while keeping non-Rayleigh statistics simultaneously. We further show the enhancement of Anderson localization of light with the non-Rayleigh nondiffracting speckles. The work presented here provides a versatile framework for customizing optical fields with desired speckle patterns for applications in the fields of solid-state physics, cold atoms, and optical imaging.

RESUMO

The single-pixel imaging technique, which is significantly different from conventional multi-pixel imaging, utilizes the signal recorded by a single-pixel detector and a stream of structured illumination patterns to reconstruct an image. We design and experimentally demonstrate a real-time single-pixel foreground imaging system with fewer samples and without a priori sensing of the background by performing incremental principal component analysis on online compressed sampling data. A fast ℓ1 compressed sensing algorithm is adopted to realize real-time foreground imaging of 10 frames per second with an image size of 127 × 127 pixels and a compression ratio of 3%. When applied to a surveillance system that requires long-distance video transmission, this scheme can greatly reduce the compression ratio and allow the system to work with smaller communication bandwidths.

RESUMO

Typical methods to decode a complex orbital-angular-momentum (OAM) spectrum suffer from issues such as a narrow OAM range, unstable interferometer, and long measuring time. In this Letter, we use a single-beam interferometer to measure the complex OAM spectrum with a single-pixel detector. The complex OAM spectrum ranging from -10 to 10 can be measured in 11 ms with the fidelity approach of 97.0%, experimentally. Our approach allows one to characterize an unknown coherent field with any complex basis, e.g., the Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) basis is used for radial index spectrum measurement. Furthermore, single-pixel complex amplitude imaging based on the LG spectrum acquisition is presented, and the advantages in resolution and flexibility are demonstrated.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Glioblastoma (GBM) is a subclass of brain malignancy with unsatisfactory prognosis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a group of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) that exert key function on tumorigenesis and tumor development. PURPOSES: The purpose of this work was to unravel the biological behavior and mechanism of miR-1204 in GBM. METHODS: Expressions of miR-1204, NR3C2 and CREB1 were detected by RT-qPCR and western blot. Proliferation and apoptosis of GBM cells were detected by CCK-8, colony formation, caspase-3 activity and TUNEL assays. Molecular interplays were examined by ChIP, RIP, and luciferase reporter assays. RESULTS: MiR-1204 level was elevated in GBM cell lines. Functionally, miR-1204 aggravated cell proliferation whereas suppressed cell apoptosis in GBM cells. Mechanistically, cAMP Responsive Element Binding Protein 1 (CREB1) bound to the promoter of miR-1204 and activated the transcription of miR-1204. Furthermore, miR-1204 targeted and inhibited Nuclear receptor subfamily 3 group C member 2 (NR3C2), a tumor suppressor gene in GBM cells. Rescue assays indicated that NR3C2 participated in the regulation of miR-1204 on the malignant phenotype of GBM cells. CONCLUSIONS: We observed for the first time that CREB1-induced miR-1204 promoted malignant phenotype of GBM through targeting NR3C2, indicating that miR-1204 acted as a novel oncogenic miRNA in GBM.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of overexpression of miR-382-5p overexpression on malignant biological behavior of human glioma U251 cells. METHODS: U251 cells were transfected with miR-382-5pmimic. Then miR-382-5p and PTEN mRNA levels were detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) after transfection. Used bioinformatics to predicted the presence of base binding sites between miR-382-5p and PTEN, and constructed PTEN pcDNA vector overexpression plasmid was constructed. Luciluciase reporting experiment was used to detect the targeting relationship between miR-382-5p and PTEN. Cells were randomly divided into four groups: control group, mimics group, pc-PTEN group and mimics+pc-PTEN group for follow-up experiments. RT-PCR was carried out to detect the level of PTEN mRNA in each group. Cell proliferation was detected by clone formation method. The mRNA levels of Ki67, Survivin and c-Myc were detected by RT-PCR. Transwell experiment was used to assayed cell invasion ability. The expression levels of E-cadherin, N-cadherin and Vimentin were determined by Western blot. RESULTS: Results showed that miR-382-5p directly targeted PTEN. Compared with the control group, miR-382-5p and c-Myc mRNA levels and E-cadherin protein level were increased (P<0.05),PTEN, Ki67 and Survivin mRNA levels were decreased (P<0.05), cell clonal formation rate and cell invasion number were decreased (P<0.05), N-cadherin and Vimentin protein levels were decreased (P<0.05) in the mimics group; In pc-PTEN group, miR-382-5p mRNA and c-Myc mRNA levels and E-cadherin protein level were decreased (P<0.05),PTEN, Ki67 and Survivin mRNA levels were increased (P<0.05), cell clonal formation rate and cell invasion number were increased (P<0.05), N-cadherin and Vimentin protein levels were increased (P<0.05). Compared with pc-PTEN group, PTEN, Ki67 and Survivin mRNA levels, the cell clone formation rate, the number of invasion cells and the N-cadherin and Vimentin levels of mimics+PC-PTEN group decreased significantly (P<0.05), while the c-Myc mRNA level and E-cadherin protein level increased significantly (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Overexpression of miR-382-5p mediates the downregulation of PTEN expression, causing the inhibition of the proliferation, invasion, growth and EMT of U251 glioma cells.

RESUMO

Based on a Fourier single-pixel imaging (SPI) technique and interference between an unknown field and a reference beam, we implement amplitude and phase reconstruction of the unknown complex field. In this Letter, we use a chessboard pattern to divide the unknown field into the signal and reference parts. A high-speed digital micro-mirror device is used to modulate the relative phase between the reference and signal fields, and the SPI method is used to acquire the Fourier spectrum of the signal field. We experimentally reconstruct a 103×103-pixel complex amplitude field with a resolution of 68.4 µm. The single-pixel real-time wavefront detection is also implemented in the rate of four frames per second.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chromobox protein homolog 3 (CBX3) is one of the heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1) family members. Among multiple cancers, it is usually overexpressed. However, the mechanism and function of CBX3 in glioma remain incompletely illustrated. METHODS: The expression level of CBX3 as well as its correlation with glioma are detected through TCGA and Oncomine database. The expressions of CBX3 mRNA and protein in glioma tissues and normal brain tissues have been identified by qRT-PCR and Western blot. The prognostic role of CBX3 has been assessed in a retrospective cohort study. Additionally, the correlation between CBX3 expression and the clinicopathological characteristics of glioma patients were also discussed. To better understand the role of CBX3 in glioma, a lentiviral vector expressing CBX3-shRNA and cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 1A (CDKN1A) siRNA were established and transfected into the glioma U87 cells. Besides, the CBX3 and CDKN1A expression levels in glioma U87 cells after transfected with CBX3-shRNA were gauged by qRT-PCR and Western blot. CCK-8, colony formation and EdU assays have been applied to evaluate the influence of CBX3 on U87 cells proliferation, and flow cytometry has been applied to manage the changes in cell cycle and cell apoptosis after transfection with CBX3-shRNA. Xenograft tumors have been examined in vivo for the carcinogenic effects and prognostic value of CBX3 in glioma tissues. RESULTS: In the present study, CBX3 was demonstrated to be highly expressed in human glioma tissues, and high CBX3 expression predicted the dismal recurrence-free survival (RFS) and poor overall survival (OS) for glioma patients. High CBX3 expression was dependent on the tumor size, Karnofsky performance scale (KPS) score, WHO grade, recurrence and survival status. Moreover, CBX3 expression knockdown could remarkably suppress the proliferation and colony formation ability of U87 cells, which was achieved through blocking cell arrest at G0/G1 phase and inducing apoptosis. Additionally, our findings also suggested that, compared with shRNA-Ctrl transfection, the mRNA and protein expression levels of CDKN1A have been dramatically up-regulated in vitro after transfection with shRNA-CBX3. Consistent with the results of in vitro assays, the outcomes of xenograft assay and immunohistochemistry (IHC) also indicated that, the tumor growth and Ki-67 expression level were restrained in response to CBX3 inhibition, while the CDKN1A expression level in vivo was up-regulated. Down-regulation of CDKN1A expression partially restored the ability of cell proliferation in the U87 cells, which was inhibited by shRNA-CBX3 CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, results of the current research suggest that a high CBX3 expression level predicts the poor prognosis for glioma patients. CBX3 can stimulate the growth of glioma U87 cells through targeting CDKN1A and CBX3 may become a novel target in the clinical treatment for glioma.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hereditary medullary thyroid carcinoma (HMTC) is thought to be associated with germline mutations of the RET proto-oncogene. METHODS: We detected RET proto-oncogene germline mutations from a pedigree with HMTC in the east of China and investigated the characteristics of these mutations in this pedigree and their correlation with HMTC by direct sequencing of all 21 exons in the RET gene of all 46 subjects. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Thirteen types of RET gene variants were detected in this pedigree. Of these, p.F285S in exon 4, c.854_855CA in exon 4, and p.D707E in exon 11 are reported for the first time in our study. (2) Both linkage disequilibrium analysis and logistic regression analysis showed a significant correlation between the p.D707E variant and HMTC (LOD = 3.69, OR = 4.413, p = 0.000167), indicating that this variant is a risk factor for medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). (3) The single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) G691S in exon 11 (rs1799939), S904S in exon 15 (rs1800863), and rs2075912 and rs2565200 in the 3'-untranslated region of the RET proto-oncogene are in complete linkage disequilibrium (D' = 1, r2 = 1); no correlation of these SNP and MTC was observed in this pedigree. (4) No hot-spot mutation of the RET proto-oncogene was detected in this pedigree. We drew the conclusion that the heterozygous nonsynonymous variant p.D707E in the RET proto-oncogene is rare, but it is a risk factor for hereditary MTC.

RESUMO

In this work, nitrogen-doped hollow porous carbon nanospheres coated with MnO2 nanosheets (NHPC@MnO2) were prepared as a novel sulfur host for the cathode of lithium-sulfur battery. N-doping of carbon and deposition of the inherently polar MnO2 promote chemical binding of the host with sulfur and its reduction products, known as polysulfides. Meanwhile, proper N-doping can improve the electron conductivity of carbon, and the nanosheet structure may help to guarantee facile electron- and lithium-ion transport through MnO2. Attributed to these advantages, the NHPC@MnO2/S cathode with a high sulfur content (70 wt% and 2.6 mg cm-2) exhibited an excellent cycle stability: its capacity retention was 93% within 100 cycles at 0.5 C. It also displayed a good rate capability: discharge capacities being ∼1130 mAh g-1 at 0.2 C, ∼1000 mAh g-1 at 0.5 C, ∼820 mAh g-1 at 1 C, and ∼630 mAh g-1 at 2 C. Our work demonstrates the synergistic effect of MnO2 nanostructure and N-doped carbon nanospheres for enhanced performance of lithium-sulfur battery cathodes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim is to explore the clinical characteristics of spinal cord glioblastoma and the therapeutic effect of microsurgery. METHODS: The clinical data of 18 patients with spinal cord glioblastoma from January 2011 to December 2014 in Beijing Tiantan Hospital were retrospectively analyzed including the clinical characteristics, the microsurgery treatment and the postoperative radiochemotherapy. RESULTS: There were 12 cases for subtotal resection, 4 cases for partial resection and 2 cases for biopsy of the intraspinal tumors under microscope. The nervous system symptoms were improved in 11 cases, no changes in 5, deterioration in 2 and no deaths within 3 months after the operation. Among those, 5 cases (100%) with preoperative McCormick grade Ⅰ, 4 (57%) with grade Ⅱ, 2 (50%) with grade Ⅲ, and 0 with grade Ⅳ had improved. There were McCormick gradeⅠ8 cases, grade Ⅱ 5 cases, grade Ⅲ 2 cases and grade Ⅳ 3 cases within 3 months after the operation. Seventeen patients were followed up from 6 to 36 months, and 1 patients was lost to follow-up. Five patients returned to normal work and study, while 8 died. The median survival time was 16 months. CONCLUSIONS: Spinal cord glioblastoma is highly malignant with low incidence and poor prognosis, which should be performed by early operative treatment and postoperative adjuvant radiochemotherapy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the mRNA expression level of growth inhibition factor 4 (ING4) and hypoxia inducing factor 1 alpha (HIF-1 alpha), and their relationship with tumor malignant degree or the pathology classification in human brain astrocytoma. METHODS: The mRNA expression levels of ING4 and HIF-1 alpha were detected by RT-PCR method in 45 cases of grade I-IV human brain astrocytoma and 11 cases of control brain tissues from January 2009 to June 2010 in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, and their correlation was also analyzed. RESULTS: In the non-tumor brain tissue, the expression level of ING4 mRNA was 1.19 ± 0.22, while they were 0.91 ± 0.19, 0.74 ± 0.28, 0.54 ± 0.33 and 0.22 ± 0.19 in I-IV grade astrocytoma, respectively. Compared with the non-tumor control, the mRNA expression level of ING4 gene decreased significantly in the astrocytoma (P<0.05). And the expression of ING4 gradually reduced with the increase of the pathological classification of the astrocytoma. In the non-tumor brain tissue, the expression level of HIF-1 alpha mRNA was 0.26 ± 0.16, and they were 0.34 ± 0.19, 0.50 ± 0.23, 0.96 ± 0.15 and 1.04 ± 0.15 in I-IV grade astrocytoma, respectively. For HIF-1 alpha gene, the mRNA expression level increased significantly in the astrocytoma. Meanwhile, the expression gradually increased with the increase of the pathological classification of the astrocytoma (P<0.05). The mRNA expression showed a negative correlation between ING4 and HIF-1 alpha with the increase of the tumor malignant degree. CONCLUSION: The ING4 and HIF-1 alpha genes play a role in the tumorigenesis and development of human brain astrocytoma, and closely associate with the malignant degree of astrocytoma.

RESUMO

Imaging at depth in opaque materials has long been a challenge. Recently, wavefront shaping has enabled notable advance for deep imaging. Nevertheless, most noninvasive wavefront-shaping methods require cameras, lack the sensitivity for deep imaging under weak optical signals, or can only focus on a single "guidestar." Here, we retrieve the transmission matrix (TM) noninvasively using two-photon fluorescence exploiting a single-pixel detection combined with a computational framework, allowing to achieve single-target focus on multiple guidestars spread beyond the memory effect range. In addition, if we assume that memory effect correlations exist in the TM, we are able to substantially reduce the number of measurements needed.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Few multi-ethnic dietary culture-sensitive food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) have been developed due to the complexity and diversity of cooking methods and styles. This study aimed to develop and validate a specific FFQ among multi-ethnic groups in Northwest China. METHODS: In the reliability study, 139 participants aged 20-65 completed two identical FFQs separated by 3 months. The relative validation of the FFQ was assessed by three 24-h recalls (24HR) employed in the interval of two FFQs, as a reference. Stratified analyses were also conducted by the major ethnic groups (Han nationality or Ethnic minority). RESULTS: For reproducibility, the median (range) of Spearman's correlation coefficients (SCC) was 0.71 (0.43-0.84) for nutrients. The intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) covered a spectrum from 0.39 to 0.78 (median: 0.64). Meanwhile, the weighted kappa values ranged from 0.11 to 0.64. For validity, the median (range) of Pearson's correlation coefficients derived from the energy unadjusted and the adjusted values between FFQ and 24HR were 0.61 (0.12-0.79) and 0.56 (0.12-0.77), respectively. The results of correlation coefficients were similar between the two ethnic groups. Moreover, the Bland-Altman plots likewise demonstrated a satisfactory level of agreement between the two methods. CONCLUSIONS: The FFQ showed acceptable reproducibility and moderate relative validity for evaluating dietary intake among multi-ethnic groups in northwest China. It could be a credible nutritional screening tool for forthcoming epidemiological surveys of these populations.

RESUMO

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a major cause of death in those with malignant tumors. To achieve the early diagnosis of NSCLC, we investigated serum-derived Piwi-interacting RNA (piRNA) of extracellular vesicles to filter diagnostic biomarkers for NSCLC. High-throughput sequencing from cancerous tissues and adjacent noncancerous tissues in patients with NSCLC was first applied to recognize candidate piRNAs as diagnostic biomarkers. These screened piRNAs were further validated in 115 patients (including 95 cases in stage I) and 47 healthy individuals using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). We showed that piR-hsa-164586 was significantly upregulated compared with paracancerous tissues and extracellular vesicles from the serum samples of healthy individuals. Moreover, the area under the curve (AUC) value of piR-hsa-164586 was 0.623 and 0.624 to distinguish patients with all stages or stage I of NSCLC, respectively, from healthy individuals. The diagnostic performance of piR-hsa-164586 was greatly improved compared with the cytokeratin-19-fragment (CYFRA21-1). Additionally, piR-hs-164586 was associated with the clinical characteristics of patients with NSCLC. Its expression was associated with the age and TNM stage of patients with NSCLC, indicating that it can serve as an effective and promising biomarker for the early diagnosis of NSCLC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are one of the major classes of proteolytic enzymes involved in tumor invasion and metastasis, being inhibited by naturally occurring tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs). We examined mRNA expression for MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-9, MT1-MMP, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 in human gastric adenocarcinoma tissues, and the correlation between their expression and clinicopathological variables. METHODS: Gastric tissue samples from 72 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma were available for this study. To determine mRNA expression for MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-9, MT1-MMP, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2, semiquantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was carried out on tumor and normal tissues, respectively. RESULTS: Mean MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-9, MT1-MMP, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 mRNA expression in the gastric adenocarcinomas was significantly higher than in the normal tissue. In terms of the invasion of the tumor, lymph node metastasis, and tumor stage of gastric adenocarcinoma, the differences in MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-9, and MT1-MMP mRNA expression levels were significant. MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-9, MT1-MMP, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 mRNA expression did not differ significantly in relation to histological type of gastric adenocarcinoma. CONCLUSION: The correlation between the increased expression of MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-9, and MTI-MMP and clinicopathological parameters reflects a role in predicting the aggressive behavior of gastric cancer.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Pilot studies have reported that patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) appear more likely to develop into neoplasia, especially lymphatic hyperplasia diseases. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of the concomitant onset of SLE and primary breast diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (PB-DLBCL). PATIENT CONCERNS: We reported an unusual case of the occurrence of primary breast diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in a 25-year-old female patient who had been diagnosed with SLE and treated with immunosuppressive drugs for about 4 years. She presented a 7-week history of a painless mass above the left breast and no history suggestive of any nipple discharge, fever, and weight loss. DIAGNOSIS: Ultrasonography of the breast showed that there was 1 mass in the left breast. After breast mass surgical resection, histopathological examinations were performed and revealed that it was primary breast diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. INTERVENTIONS: Treatment strategy with vincristine and dexamethasone was used to improve symptoms. However, the patient's renal function deteriorated and the blood potassium rose continuously and she and their family members refused the follow-up treatments. OUTCOMES: The patient died 8 months after she was discharged from the hospital. LESSONS: PB-DLBCL is a rare occurrence in SLE patients. Therefore, a careful examination is very important in SLE cohort, as activity of the disease and malignancy may mimic each other. Meanwhile, when symptoms cannot be explained or insensitive to treatment, the occurrence of malignant tumors must be highly considered.

BACKGROUND: Cell division cycle associated 7 like (CDCA7L) belongs to the JPO protein family, which is recently identified as a target gene of c-Myc and is frequently dysregulated in multiple cancers. This study aimed to explore the clinicpathological value and biological role of CDCA7L in glioma. METHODS: CDCA7L expression in glioma patients was determined using the Oncomine database, and the prognostic role of CDCA7L expression was assessed in a retrospective cohort study. Moreover, the relationship of CDCA7L expression with the clinicopathological characteristics in glioma patients, including age, gender, tumor size, cystic change, Karnofsky performance scale (KPS) score, tumor location, extent of resection, WHO grade, adjuvant therapy and tumor recurrence, was analyzed in this study. In addition, the CDCA7L small interfering (si) RNA was constructed and transfected into the glioma U251 cells, so as to examine the role of CDCA7L in glioma patients. Besides, the changes in U251 cell invasion after transfection with CDCA7L siRNA were also monitored through Transwell assay. RESULTS: Our results suggested that CDCA7L expression was up-regulated in different glioma types, including glioblastoma, oligodendroglioma, diffuse astrocytoma and anaplastic astrocytoma. Moreover, the current retrospective cohort study indicated that high CDCA7L expression was associated with tumor size, WHO grade, adjuvant therapy and recurrence, as well as the poor overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) in glioma patients. Lastly, CDCA7L expression was knocked down using CDCA7L siRNA, which could block the invasion abilities of glioma U251 cells. CONCLUSIONS: CDCA7L is highly expressed in human glioma tissues and a high CDCA7L expression level predicts the dismal prognosis for glioma patients. Moreover, CDCA7L can promote glioma invasion, which can serve as an independent potential prognostic biomarker for glioma patients.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the nucleocytoplasmic translocation of inhibitor of growth family member 5 (ING5) gene in human breast cancer and the negative correlation between the nuclear high expression of ING5 protein and the clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer. Methods We collected 260 cases of clinical primary breast cancer, 55 cases of metastatic cancer in lymph node, 61 cases of breast fibroadenoma, 110 cases of adenomatosis, and 91 cases of para-cancerous tissues. With the tissue microarrays, we detected ING5 expression in the nucleus and cytoplasm through immunohistochemistry, and statistically analyzed the correlations of nuclear and cytoplasmic ING5 expression with the clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer. Results The expression of nuclear ING5 in the para-cancerous tissues was obviously higher than that in the fibroadenoma, adenomatosis and primary breast cancer; it was higher in the adenomatosis than in the primary breast cancer, and higher in the primary breast cancer than in the metastatic cancer in lymph node. The cytoplasmic ING5 expression in the para-carcinoma tissue was higher than that in the fibroadenoma, adenomatosis and primary breast cancer. These data suggested the nucleocytoplasmic translocation of ING5 protein in breast cancer. Moreover, nuclear ING5 high expression was negatively correlated with distant metastasis and positively with P53 expression, while cytoplasmic ING5 high expression was positively correlated with tumor size and estrogen receptor expression. The cytoplasm ING5 expression of triple-negative breast cancer was lower than that in the non-triple-negative breast cancer. Conclusion Nucleocytoplasmic translocation of ING5 protein occurs in breast cancer, and the high expression of nuclear ING5 is inversely related to some poor clinicopathological behaviors of breast cancer.
