RESUMO

As a stochastic perturbation, the inter-core crosstalk (IC-XT) severely distorts the signal in multi-core fibers (MCF), especially for long-haul transmission. How to quickly measure and monitor the IC-XT online for an MCF-based space division multiplexing (SDM) system is of special importance. In this paper, we introduce the technology of auxiliary management and control channel (AMCC) to online monitor the IC-XT of MCF, in which the unique advantage of low-frequency auxiliary management and control signal is fully utilized with the limited influence on high-speed data transmission. Specifically, two orthogonal sequences are chosen as monitoring signals for the signal-channel core and the crosstalk-channel core, respectively, followed by digital signal processing (DSP) for the received signal to evaluate the real-time crosstalk accurately. The experimental verifications of XT online monitoring confirm the effectiveness of our proposed method with very small monitoring error (mostly < 0.5 dB) for both heterodyne XT and homodyne XT in the C and L bands, showing its great potential for future SDM systems.

RESUMO

A Co3Mn-LDHs and carbon nanotube (Co3Mn-LDHs/CNT) composite catalyst was constructed for permonosulfate (PMS) activation and degrading sulfamethoxazole (SMX) under Vis light irradiation. The introduction of CNTs into Co3Mn-LDHs facilitate the exciton dissociation and carrier migration, and the e- and h+ were readily separated from Co3Mn-LDHs/CNT in the photocatalysis process, which promoted the production rate of reactive oxygen species (ROS), so the Co3Mn-LDHs + Vis + PMS system exhibited better activity with an SMX degradation ratio of 61.25% than those of Co3Mn-LDHs + Vis system (42.30%) and Co3Mn-LDHs + PMS system (48.30%). After 10 cycles, the degradation rate of SMX only decreased by 7.16%, indicating the good reusability of the Co3Mn-LDHs/CNTs catalyst. The results of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis and radical quenching experiments demonstrated that that the SO4•- played crucial role for SMX removal in Co3Mn-LDHs/CNTs + Vis + PMS system, and both e- and h+ made an important contribution to activating PMS to produce ROS. Overall, this work provided an excellent catalyst for photo-assisted PMS activation and suggested the activation mechanism for organic pollutant remediation.

RESUMO

The inter-core crosstalk (IC-XT) of multi-core fiber (MCF) limits the capacity of space division multiplexing system (SDM) fundamentally. We develop a closed-form expression of the magnitude of IC-XT for various types of signals, which can well explain the mechanism of different fluctuation behaviors of the real-time short-term average crosstalk (STAXT) and bit error ratio (BER) for the optical signals with and without strong optical carrier. The experimental verifications with the real-time measurement of the BER and outage probability in a 7 × 10-Gb/s SDM system agree well with the proposed theory and confirm that the unmodulated optical carrier plays a substantial role in fluctuation of BER. The range of fluctuation can be reduced by 3 orders of magnitude for the optical signal without optical carrier. We also investigate the effect of IC-XT in a long-haul transmission system based on a recirculating 7-core fiber loop and develop a frequency-domain IC-XT measurement technique. Longer transmission distance is shown to have a narrower BER fluctuation range, since IC-XT is no longer the only dominant factor on transmission performance.

RESUMO

Multi-core fiber based on space division multiplexing technology provides a practical solution to achieve multi-channel and high-capacity signal transmission. However, long-distance and error-free transmission remains challenging due to the presence of inter-core crosstalk within the multi-core fiber. Here, we propose and prepare a novel trapezoid-index thirteen-core single-mode fiber to solve the problems that MCF has large inter-core crosstalk and the transmission capacity of single-mode fiber approaches the upper limit. The optical properties of thirteen-core single-mode fiber are measured and characterized by experimental setups. The inter-core crosstalk of the thirteen-core single-mode fiber is less than -62.50 dB/km at 1550 nm. At the same time, each core can transmit signals at a data rate of 10 Gb/s and achieve error-free signal transmission. The prepared optical fiber with a trapezoid-index core provides a new and feasible solution for reducing inter-core crosstalk, which can be loaded into current communication systems and applied in large data centers.

RESUMO

This study investigated antimalarial efficacy and sensitization of chrysosplenetin against artemisinin-resistant Plasmodium berghei K173 and potential molecular mechanism. Our data indicated a risk of artemisinin resistance because a higher parasitaemia% and lower inhibition% under artemisinin treatment against resistant parasites than those in the sensitive groups were observed. Two non-antimalarial components, verapamil and chrysosplentin, being P-gp inhibitors, possessed a strong efficacy against resistant parasites but it was not the case for Bcrp inhibitor novobiocin. Artemisinin-chrysosplenetin combination improved artemisinin susceptibility of resistant P. berghei. Artemisinin activated intestinal P-gp and Abcb1/Abcg2 expressions and suppressed Bcrp whereas chrysosplenetin reversed them. Resistant parasite infection led to a decreased haemozoin in organs or an increased heme in peripheral bloods compared with the sensitives; however, that in Abcb1-deficient knockout (KO)-resistant mice reversely got increased or decreased versus wild type (WT)-resistant animals. Chrysosplenetin as well as rifampin (nuclear receptor agonist) increased the transcription levels of PXR/CAR while showed a versatile regulation on hepatic and enternal PXR/CAR in WT- or KO-sensitive or -resistant parasites. Oppositely, hepatic and enteric NF-κB p52 mRNA decreased conformably in WT but increased in KO-resistant mice. NF-κB pathway potentially involved in the mechanism of chrysosplenetin on inhibiting P-gp expressions while PXR/CAR play a more complicated role in this mechanism.

RESUMO

Small intestinal stromal tumor (SIST) is a common gastrointestinal tumor. Currently, SIST diagnosis relies on clinical radiologists reviewing CT images from medical imaging sensors. However, this method is inefficient and greatly affected by subjective factors. The automatic detection method for stromal tumors based on computer vision technology can better solve these problems. However, in CT images, SIST have different shapes and sizes, blurred edge texture, and little difference from surrounding normal tissues, which to a large extent challenges the use of computer vision technology for the automatic detection of stromal tumors. Furthermore, there are the following issues in the research on the detection and recognition of SIST. After analyzing mainstream target detection models on SIST data, it was discovered that there is an imbalance in the features at different levels during the feature fusion stage of the network model. Therefore, this paper proposes an algorithm, based on the attention balance feature pyramid (ABFP), for detecting SIST with unbalanced feature fusion in the target detection model. By combining weighted multi-level feature maps from the backbone network, the algorithm creates a balanced semantic feature map. Spatial attention and channel attention modules are then introduced to enhance this map. In the feature fusion stage, the algorithm scales the enhanced balanced semantic feature map to the size of each level feature map and enhances the original feature information with the original feature map, effectively addressing the imbalance between deep and shallow features. Consequently, the SIST detection model's detection performance is significantly improved, and the method is highly versatile. Experimental results show that the ABFP method can enhance traditional target detection methods, and is compatible with various models and feature fusion strategies.

RESUMO

Mild aqueous Zn batteries have attracted increasing attention for energy storage due to the advantages of high safety and low cost; however, the rechargeability of Zn anodes is one major issue for practical applications. In this work, an effective approach is proposed to improve the reversibility and stability of Zn anodes using advanced acidic electrolytes. A trace amount of acetic acid (HAc) is employed as a buffering agent to provide a stable pH environment in aqueous Zn electrolytes, and thus suppress passivation from precipitation reactions on Zn electrodes. Meanwhile, tetramethylene sulfone (TMS) is introduced as the critical component to stabilize the Zn anodes in the acidic electrolyte. TMS greatly strengthens the hydrogen-bonding network with reduced H2 O activity and extends the electrochemical window of acidic electrolytes. With the optimal 3 m Zn(OTF)2 in (H2 O-HAc)/TMS acidic electrolyte (pH 1.6), the Zn electrode exhibits a coulombic efficiency of >99.8% and smooth Zn deposition. The Zn-V2 O5 full cell demonstrates ultra-stable cycling over 20 000 cycles with a low decay rate of 0.0009% for each cycle at a negative/postive capacity ratio of 6.5. This work provides an insightful perspective to stabilize Zn electrodes by regulating the pH environment and limiting the H2 O activity simultaneously for long-life Zn anodes.

RESUMO

In this study, different carbon quantum dots (CQDs)/NaBiO3 hybrid materials were synthesized as photocatalysts to effectively utilize visible light for the photocatalytic degradation of contaminants effectively. These hybrid materials exhibit an enhanced photocatalytic reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) in the aqueous medium. Zero-dimensional nanoparticles of CQDs were embedded within the two-dimensional NaBiO3 nanosheets by the hydrothermal process. Compared with that of the pure NaBiO3 nanosheets, the photocatalytic performance of the hybrid catalysts was significantly high and 6 wt.% CQDs/NaBiO3 catalyst exhibited better photocatalytic performance. We performed the first-principles density functional theory calculations to study the interfacial properties of pure NaBiO3 nanosheets and hybrid photocatalysts, and confirmed the CQDs played an important role in the CQDs/NaBiO3 composites. The experimental results indicated that the enhanced reduction of Cr(VI) was probably due to the high loading of CQDs (electron acceptor) on NaBiO3, which made NaBiO3 nanomaterials to respond in visible light and significantly improved their electron-hole separation efficiency.

RESUMO

During neural development, stem and precursor cells can divide either symmetrically or asymmetrically. The transition between symmetric and asymmetric cell divisions is a major determinant of precursor cell expansion and neural differentiation, but the underlying mechanisms that regulate this transition are not well understood. Here, we identify the Sonic hedgehog (Shh) pathway as a critical determinant regulating the mode of division of cerebellar granule cell precursors (GCPs). Using partial gain and loss of function mutations within the Shh pathway, we show that pathway activation determines spindle orientation of GCPs, and that mitotic spindle orientation correlates with the mode of division. Mechanistically, we show that the phosphatase Eya1 is essential for implementing Shh-dependent GCP spindle orientation. We identify atypical protein kinase C (aPKC) as a direct target of Eya1 activity and show that Eya1 dephosphorylates a critical threonine (T410) in the activation loop. Thus, Eya1 inactivates aPKC, resulting in reduced phosphorylation of Numb and other components that regulate the mode of division. This Eya1-dependent cascade is critical in linking spindle orientation, cell cycle exit and terminal differentiation. Together these findings demonstrate that a Shh-Eya1 regulatory axis selectively promotes symmetric cell divisions during cerebellar development by coordinating spindle orientation and cell fate determinants.

RESUMO

This study for the first time proposed an efficient microbial electrolyte/UV system for Methyl Orange decomposition. With an external applied voltage of 0.2 V and cathode aeration of 20 mL/min, H2O2 could be in-situ generated from two-electron reduction of oxygen in cathode, reaching to 8.1 mg/L in 2 hr and continued to increase. The pollutant removal efficiency of approximate 94.7% was achieved at initial neutral pH, with the activation of •OH in the presence of UV illumination. Although the nature of its guiding principles remain on the vista of practical exploration, this proof-of-concept study provides an alternative operation pattern of solar-microbial hybrid technology for future wastewater treatment from a basic but multidisciplinary view.

RESUMO

Diffuse panbronchiolitis critical region 1 (DPCR1) is located in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I. It was reported to be downregulated in invasive pituitary adenoma compared with that in non-invasive tumors, but upregulated in the precursor of gastric carcinogenesis. However, the direct effect of DPCR1 on cancer cells has rarely been reported, and the role DPCR1 in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains unclear. The clinical sample validation and public data analysis of the present study demonstrated that DPCR1 was upregulated markedly in PDAC and this high expression was negatively correlated with the patient prognosis. Functionally, knocking down DPCR1 in PDAC cell lines inhibited cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro. Tumor xenograft experiments further showed that suppression of DPCR1 inhibited tumor growth in vivo. In addition, the results of RNA deep sequencing and qRT-PCR assay showed that DPCR1 participated in PADC progression by regulating nuclear factor-kappa B signaling pathway, suggesting that it might be a novel oncogene in tumor progression and a potential therapeutic target in PDAC as well.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the prediction roles of clinical plus imaging features and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) texture analysis in preoperative risk grade classification of small bowel (SB) gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). METHODS: This study included 213 SB GIST patients. Clinical features and MDCT imaging findings were reviewed. Tumor risk stratifications were determined according to modified National Institutes of Health criteria. Random forest models were performed to evaluate the correlation of risk stratification. RESULTS: The model of clinical plus imaging findings showed an area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 92.0%. The AUC of texture analysis based on MDCT portal phase was 93.3%, without statistical difference from that of clinical plus imaging model (P = 0.378). The AUC of the model combined clinical plus imaging features and MDCT texture analysis was 94.3%, which was significantly higher than the AUC of clinical imaging model (P = 0.042). CONCLUSION: Texture analysis may become an important comprehensive tool for preoperative risk stratification of SB GISTs.

RESUMO

Simulations can mimic the environment that refers to the surgery operation to improve the technical skills of the trainees. In this paper, we designed a new cardiac surgery simulative training system. The isolated pig heart was selected as the heart model. A mechanical device was designed to achieve the beating of heart model. At the same time, adjusting frequencies of mechanical movement could change the rating of heartbeat. In order to validate the rationality of the system, 12 non-medical specialty students and 12 medical specialty students were divided into two groups, which consecutively accepted seven-days of training for off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting using the cardiac surgery simulative training system. The time for completing bypass grafting before and after training were recorded. And the bridging outcomes of each trainee were assessed by 3 surgery cardiac surgeons using the object structured assessments of technical skill (OSATS) criteria. After training, each trainee could finish the bypass suturing in a shorter time than before training, and the scores of each trainee assessed by OSATS criteria were also improved. The results showed that the cardiac surgery simulative training system had better training effect in improving the surgical techniques, operation skills and proficiency of surgical instruments of trainees.

RESUMO

Hypoxia, which has been well established as a key feature of the tumor microenvironment, significantly influences tumor behavior and treatment response. Therefore, imaging for tumor hypoxia in vivo is warranted. Although some imaging modalities for detecting tumor hypoxia have been developed, such as magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, and optical imaging, these technologies still have their own specific limitations. As computed tomography (CT) is one of the most useful imaging tools in terms of availability, efficiency, and convenience, the feasibility of using a hypoxia-sensitive nanoprobe (Au@BSA-NHA) for CT imaging of tumor hypoxia is investigated, with emphasis on identifying different levels of hypoxia in two xenografts. The nanoprobe is composed of Au nanoparticles and nitroimidazole moiety which can be electively reduced by nitroreductase under hypoxic condition. In vitro, Au@BSA-NHA attain the higher cellular uptake under hypoxic condition. Attractively, after in vivo administration, Au@BSA-NHA can not only monitor the tumor hypoxic environment with CT enhancement but also detect the hypoxic status by the degree of enhancement in two xenograft tumors with different hypoxic levels. The results demonstrate that Au@BSA-NHA may potentially be used as a sensitive CT imaging agent for detecting tumor hypoxia.

RESUMO

The spatial and temporal distributions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the Songhua River, Harbin, China, were investigated. Seventy-seven samples, 42 water and 35 sediment samples, were collected in April and October of 2007 and January of 2008. The concentrations of total PAHs in water ranged from 163.54 to 2,746.25 ng/L with the average value of 934.62 ng/L, which were predominated by 2- and 3-ring PAHs. The concentrations of total 16 PAHs in sediment ranged from 68.25 to 654.15 ng/g dw with the average value of 234.15 ng/g dw, which were predominated by 4-, 5- and 6-ring PAHs. Statistical analysis of the PAH concentrations shown that the highest concentrations of the total PAHs were found during rainy season (October of 2007) and the lowest during snowy season (January of 2008). Ratios of specific PAH compounds, including fluoranthene/(fluoranthene + pyrene) (Flu/(Flu + Pyr)) and phenanthrene/(phenanthrene + anthracene) (An/(Ant + PhA)), were calculated to evaluate the possible sources of PAH contaminations. These ratios reflected pyrolytic inputs of PAHs in Songhua River water and a mixed pattern of pyrolytic and petrogenic inputs of PAHs in the Songhua River sediments. Ecotoxicological risk levels calculated for PAHs suggested that there were individual PAHs, which can less frequently cause biological impairment in some samples, but no samples had constituents that may frequently cause biological impairment. Total toxic benzo[a]pyrene equivalent of ΣcPAHs varied from 10.03 to 29.7 ng/g dw and from 0.36 to 1.92 ng/g dw for total toxic tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin equivalent. The level of PAHs indicated a low toxicological risk to this area.

RESUMO

The recent widespread use of microplastics (MPs), especially in pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), has caused significant water pollution. This study presents a UV/electrically co-facilitated activated persulfate (PS) system to co-degrade a typical microplastic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and an organic sunscreen p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). We investigated the effect of various reaction conditions on the degradation. PVC and PABA degradation was 37% and 99.22%, respectively. Furthermore, we observed alterations in the surface topography and chemical characteristics of PVC throughout degradation. The possible degradation pathways of PVC and PABA were proposed by analyzing the intermediate products and the free radicals generated. This study reveals the co-promoting effect of multiple mechanisms in the activation by ultraviolet light and electricity.

RESUMO

Micro and nanoplastics (MPs/NPs) coupled with heavy metals are prevalent in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Their ecological toxicity and combined adverse effects have obtained significant concern. Past studies primarily focused on how MPs/NPs influence the behavior of heavy metals. Yet, the possible effects of heavy metals on MP/NP transport and toxicity within co-contaminated systems are still not well-understood. In this study, we conducted split-root experiments to explore the transport and toxicity of polystyrene (PS) particles of varying sizes in parsley seedlings, both with and without the addition of cadmium (Cd). Both the PS-NPs (100 nm) and PS-MPs (300 nm) traveled from the PS-spiked roots (Roots-1) to the non-PS-spiked roots (Roots-2), with or without Cd, possibly because of phloem transport. Furthermore, the presence of Cd reduced the accumulation and movement of PS-NP/MP in the roots, likely due to the increased positive charge (Cd2+) on the PS surface. PS-NPs/MPs in both Roots-1 and Roots-2 were observed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). When Cd was added to either Roots-1 (PS + Cd|H) or Roots-2 (PS|Cd), there was a minor reduction in the chlorophyll a and carotenoids content in leaves with PS|H. The adverse impacts of MPs|H on both indicators were influenced by the MP concentration. However, chlorophyll b significantly increased in the PS|H, PS + Cd|H, and PS|Cd treatments. Consequently, the chlorophyll a/b ratio declined, indicating inhibition of photosynthesis. The dehydrogenase content showed a minor change in Roots-1 and Roots-2 without Cd stress, whereas it significantly decreased on the Cd-spiked side and subsequently inhibited root growth. In contrast, the marked rise in glutathione (GSH) levels within Cd-spiked roots suggested, based on Gaussian analysis, that GSH and Cd chelation were instrumental in mitigating Cd toxicity. When Cd was introduced to both Roots-1 and Roots-2 simultaneously (PS + Cd|Cd), the aforementioned index showed a notable decline.

RESUMO

Plastics pose a hazard to the environment. Although plastics have toxicity, microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) are capable of interacting with the rest pollutants in the environment, so they serve as the carriers and interact with organic pollutants to modulate their toxicity, thus resulting in unpredictable ecological risks. PS-NPs and TDCIPP were used expose from 2 h post-fertilization (hpf) to 150 days post-fertilization (dpf) to determine the bioaccumulation of tris(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TDCIPP) and its potential effects on neurodevelopment in F1 zebrafish (Danio rerio) offspring under the action of polystyrene nano plastics (PS-NPs). The exposure groups were assigned to TDCIPP (0, 0.4, 2 or 10 µg/L) alone group and the PS-NPs (100 µg/L) and TDCIPP co-exposed group. F1 embryos were collected and grown in clean water to 5 dpf post-fertilization. PS-NPs facilitated the bioaccumulation of TDCIPP in the gut, gill, head, gonad and liver of zebrafish in a sex-dependent manner and promoted the transfer of TDCIPP to their offspring, thus contributing to PS-NPs aggravated the inhibition of offspring development and neurobehavior of TDCIPP-induced. In comparison with TDCIPP exposure alone, the combination could notably down-regulate the levels of the dopamine neurotransmitter, whereas the levels of serotonin or acetylcholine were not notably different. This result was achieved probably because PS-NPs interfered with the TDCIPP neurotoxic response of zebrafish F1 offspring not through the serotonin or acetylcholine neurotransmitter pathway. The increased transfer of TDCIPP to the offspring under the action of PS-NPs increased TDCIPP-induced transgenerational developmental neurotoxicity, which was proven by a further up-regulation/down-regulation the key gene and protein expression related to dopamine synthesis, transport, and metabolism in F1 larvae, in contrast to TDCIPP exposure alone. The above findings suggested that dopaminergic signaling involvement could be conducive to the transgenerational neurodevelopmental toxicity of F1 larval upon parental early co-exposure to PS-NPs and TDCIPP.

RESUMO

To accurately segment various clinical lesions from computed tomography(CT) images is a critical task for the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. However, current segmentation frameworks are tailored to specific diseases, and limited frameworks can detect and segment different types of lesions. Besides, it is another challenging problem for current segmentation frameworks to segment visually inconspicuous and small-scale tumors (such as small intestinal stromal tumors and pancreatic tumors). Our proposed framework, CDI-NSTSEG, efficiently segments small non-salient tumors using multi-scale visual information and non-local target mining. CDI-NSTSEG follows the diagnostic process of clinicians, including preliminary screening, localization, refinement, and segmentation. Specifically, we first explore to extract the unique features at three different scales (1×, 0.5×, and 1.5×) based on the scale space theory. Our proposed scale fusion module (SFM) hierarchically fuses features to obtain a comprehensive representation, similar to preliminary screening in clinical diagnosis. The global localization module (GLM) is designed with a non-local attention mechanism. It captures the long-range semantic dependencies of channels and spatial locations from the fused features. GLM enables us to locate the tumor from a global perspective and output the initial prediction results. Finally, we design the layer focusing module (LFM) to gradually refine the initial results. LFM mainly conducts context exploration based on foreground and background features, focuses on suspicious areas layer-by-layer, and performs element-by-element addition and subtraction to eliminate errors. Our framework achieves state-of-the-art segmentation performance on small intestinal stromal tumor and pancreatic tumor datasets. RESUMO

We investigated the photocatalytic property of etched ironaluminum layered double hydroxide (LDH) composites using urea-modified biochar (N-BC) carrier to degrade para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), a refractory organic pollutant. The prepared FeAl-LDH@FeSx-N-BC composite exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance, attributed to the enhanced photogenerated charge-carrier separation by the etched LDH and the improved comparative surface areas by the doped N-BC. The composite photocatalytically degraded 96 % of PABA. The performance was affected by solute concentration, pH and photocatalyst dose. Adding p-benzoquinone and EDTA-2Na significantly decreased the degradation rate, suggesting that superoxide radicals and holes were co-involved in PABA degradation. The excellent PABA removal efficiency was consistent for three consecutive runs. The samples' reactive oxygen species was confirmed, as electron paramagnetic reverberation explained the photodegradation mechanism. Under xenon lamp irradiation, two PABA photocatalytic degradation pathways were proposed using Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (LCMS) and density functional theory. As expected, FeAl-LDH@FeSx-N-BC showed excellent photocatalytic performance, expanding a new direction and possibility for future photocatalytic treatment of water pollutants.
