RESUMO

X-ray detection and imaging are widely used in medical diagnosis, product inspection, security monitoring, etc. Large-scale polycrystalline perovskite thick films possess high potential for direct X-ray imaging. However, the notorious problems of baseline drift and high detection limit caused by ions migration are still remained. Here, ion migration is reduced by incorporating 2D perovskite into 3D perovskite, thereby increasing the ion activation energy. This approach hinders ion migration within the perovskite film, consequently suppressing baseline drift and reducing the lowest detection limit(LOD) of the device. As a result, the baseline drifting declines by 20 times and the LOD reduces to 21.1 nGy s-1, while the device maintains a satisfactory sensitivity of 5.6 × 103 µC Gy-1 cm-2. This work provides a new strategy to achieve low ion migration in large-scale X-ray detectors and may provide new thoughts for the application of mixed-dimension perovskite.

RESUMO

Nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) not only reduce the prevalence of this disease among children but also influence the transmission of other viruses. This retrospective study investigated the impact of NPIs on human enterovirus (HEV) infection in children diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) or herpangina (HA) in Hangzhou, China. We collected and analyzed the laboratory results and clinical data of children diagnosed with HFMD or HA during the following periods: pre-COVID-19 (January 2019 to December 2019), the COVID-19 pandemic (January 2020 to December 2022), and post-COVID-19 (January to December 2023). A total of 41 742 specimens that met the inclusion criteria were obtained, of which 1998 (4.79%) tested positive for enterovirus. In comparison to those in the pre-COVID-19 period, which had 695 (5.63%) HEV-positive specimens, the numbers dramatically decreased to 69 (1.19%), 398 (5.12%), and 112 (1.58%) in 2020, 2021, and 2022, respectively, but significantly increased to 724 (8.27%) in 2023. Seasonal peaks of infections occurred in May, June, July, and August each year, with the total detection rate ranging from 2019 to 2023 being 9.41% in May, 22.47% in June, 28.23% in July, and 12.16% in August, respectively. The difference in the detection rates of HEV infection between males and females was statistically significant (p < 0.005), with 5.11% (1221/23 898) of males and 4.35% (777/17 844) of females testing positive, resulting in a male-to-female positive ratio of 1.57:1. Among the age groups, 11.25% (378/3360) of the children aged 3-5 years had the highest detection rate, which steadily decreased with increasing or decreasing age. The detection of HEV indicated that >95% of the viruses were other types than the previously commonly reported enterovirus 71 (EV-A71) and coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16). In conclusion, NPIs for COVID-19 may be effective at reducing the transmission of HEV. However, with the relaxation of NPIs, the detection rate of HEVs increased slowly to a certain extent. Active awareness and surveillance of the epidemiological characteristics of HEV are essential for preventing, controlling, and managing the development of HFMD and HA, as well as contributing to the development of a multivalent HFMD vaccine.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The relationship between Vitamin D levels and pediatric celiac disease (CD) remains controversial. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the relationship between Vitamin D and pediatric CD. METHODS: We screened relevant studies from PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science published in English from January 1, 2000, to August 1, 2023. The included studies were assessed according to the STROBE checklist. Heterogeneity was quantified by Cochran's Q test and the I2 statistic. Publication bias was estimated by Begg's test and Egger's test. Meta-regression was used to detect potential sources of heterogeneity. RESULTS: A total of 26 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Nineteen articles compared 25(OH)D3 levels between CD patients and control groups, average 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 [25(OH)D3 or calcidiol], and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1,25(OH)2D3 or calcitriol] levels, as the main forms of Vitamin D, there was a significant difference in CD patients and healthy controls (weighted mean difference (WMD) = - 5.77, 95% confidence interval (CI) = [- 10.86, - 0.69] nmol/L). Meanwhile, eleven articles reported the numbers of patients and controls with Vitamin D deficiency, there was a significant difference in the incidence of 25(OH)D3 deficiency between CD patients and healthy controls (odds ratio 2.20, 95% CI= [1.19, 4.08]). Nine articles reported changes in 25(OH)D3 levels before and after administering a GFD in patients with CD, the result of this study revealed the increase of 25(OH)D3 levels in CD patients after a gluten-free diet (GFD) (WMD = - 6.74, 95% CI = [- 9.78, - 3.70] nmol/L). CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D levels in pediatric CD patients were lower than in healthy controls, and 25(OH)D3 deficiency was more prevalent in CD patients. We found that 25(OH)D3 levels were elevated in CD patients after GFD, which is consistent with previous research. Further well-designed, longitudinal, prospective cohort studies focusing on the role of Vitamin D in the pathogenesis of CD are therefore needed.

RESUMO

Objective: This work assessed the impact of drug therapy combined with pulmonary rehabilitation exercise training on specific lung function and respiratory parameters of lung cancer (LC) patients after thoracoscopic lobectomy. Methods: 88 LC patients who had undergone thoracoscopic lobectomy were selected based on their surgical indications and health condition. The study aimed to explore methods to assist patients in their postoperative recovery; therefore, patients meeting the surgical criteria were chosen to ensure the internal validity and external applicability of the results. Meanwhile, these 88 LC patients undergoing thoracoscopic lobectomy were randomly allocated into an experimental group (EG, 44 cases) and a control group (CG, 44 cases). The EG received inhalation therapy with albuterol sulfate nebulizer solution and personalized pulmonary rehabilitation exercise training, while the CG received nebulized treatment alone. The study lasted for three months. The pulmonary rehabilitation program included regular physical exercises, including respiratory training and physical fitness training, among other activities. Results: After pulmonary lobectomy surgery, both groups of patients showed a significant decrease in (1) forced vital capacity (FVC), (2) forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), (3) maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV), and (4) peak expiratory flow (PEF). However, the values of FVC, FEV1, MVV, and PEF in the EG were significantly higher than those in the CG (P < .05). Furthermore, both groups demonstrated significant improvements in the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) results after lung lobectomy; however, the 6MWT results in the EG also significantly increased (P < .05). In terms of dyspnea index (DI), after lung lobectomy, the DI for both groups of patients significantly increased, but the DI in the EG was significantly lower than that in the CG (P < .05). Conclusions: The combined application of drug therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation exercise training contributed to promoting cardiopulmonary function and respiratory muscle recovery in LC patients after thoracoscopic lobectomy. This was crucial for improving the quality of life of patients, as enhanced cardiopulmonary function and respiratory muscle recovery can alleviate postoperative respiratory difficulties, increase the physical stamina and activity levels of patients. This may help reduce the risk of postoperative complications, shorten hospital stays, and potentially improve long-term survival rates. Consequently, these results could have a positive impact on the development of postoperative care and treatment strategies. However, this work was subjected to several limitations, including a relatively short duration, necessitating longer-term follow-up to assess long-term effects. Additionally, the sample size was relatively small, and further large-scale research was needed to validate these findings.

RESUMO

During the COVID-19 pandemic, genetic variants of SARS-CoV-2 have been emerging and spreading around the world. Several SARS-CoV-2 endemic variants were found in United Kingdom, South Africa, Japan, and India between 2020 and April 2021. Studies have shown that many SARS-CoV-2 variants are more infectious than early wild strain and produce immune escape. These SARS-CoV-2 variants have brought new challenges to the prevention and control of COVID-19. This review summarizes and analyzes the biological characteristics of different amino acid mutations and the epidemic characteristics and immune escape of different SARS-CoV-2 variants. We hope to provide scientific reference for the monitoring, prevention, and control measures of new SARS-CoV-2 variants and the development strategy of the second-generation vaccine.

RESUMO

In this paper, an optical phased array (OPA) with wide beam steering angle and low side-lobe level is designed based on the hybrid approach of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and convex optimization (CVX). The optimization process is divided into two steps. First, the antenna spacing distribution of the OPA is designed to obtain a wide beam steering range by using a PSO algorithm. Second, based on the antenna spacing distribution obtained in the previous step, the CVX algorithm is used to obtain the excitation amplitude and phase distribution of the OPA under different beam steering angles. By using this approach, we design an OPA with 1024 antennas. The beam steering range of the OPA is ±60° and the side-lobe level is reduced to -24.65 dB.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify and utilize gene signatures for the prognostic evaluation of postoperative patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: The gene mRNA expression profiles and corresponding clinicopathological data of postoperative patients with HCC were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Highly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in tumor tissues compared to adjacent tissues were identified, and their associations with the overall survival (OS) of HCC patients were analyzed. The strongly associated genes were used to develop a prognostic score for the survival stratification of HCC, and the underlying mechanisms were analyzed using bioinformatics. RESULTS: A total of 376 DEGs were identified and four DEGs (ADH4, COL15A1, RET and KCNJ16) were independently associated with OS. A prognostic score derived from the four genes could effectively stratify HCC patients with different OS outcomes, independent of clinical parameters. Patients with high scores exhibited poorer OS than patients with low scores (HR 5.526, 95% CI: 2.451-12.461, p < .001). The four genes were involved in cancer-related biological processes and were independent of each other in bioinformatics analyses. CONCLUSION: Four genes strongly associated with the prognosis of postoperative patients with HCC were identified, and the derived prognostic score was simple and valuable for overall survival prediction.

RESUMO

HUWE1, as a well-known E3 ligase, has an oncogenic or tumor-suppressive role in various cancers by mediating ubiquitination and degradation of substrates. However, the role and action mechanism of HUWE1 in gastric cancer (GC) remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether HUWE1 plays a role in GC development in vitro by mediating transforming growth factor-ß receptor 2 (TGFBR2) ubiquitination and degradation. HUWE1 was overexpressed in SGCA-7901 GC cells and silenced in MGC-803 GC cells. Then, GC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion were evaluated by MTT assay and Transwell migration and invasion assay, respectively. The regulatory effect and mechanism of HUWE1 on TGFBR2 expression were assessed by qRT-PCR, western blot, and ubiquitination assay. HUWE1 mRNA and protein levels were higher in human GC tissues than in matched noncancerous gastric tissues. HUWE1 overexpression promoted, whereas HUWE1 silencing inhibited GC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. HUWE1 promoted ubiquitination and degradation of TGFBR2. TGFBR2 overexpression impaired the tumor-promoting effect of HUWE1 overexpression in regulating GC cell behaviors. HUWE1 promoted GC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, at least partially, by mediating TGFBR2 ubiquitination. Our data indicated a novel regulatory mechanism of HUWE1 in GC development, and provided a potential idea for the disease treatment.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Hemolysis is the main cause of unqualified clinical samples. In this study, we established a method for detecting and evaluating hemolysis in whole blood test. We used a mathematical formula for correcting the influence of hemolysis on complete blood cell count (CBC) so as to avoid re-venipuncture and obtain more accurate parameters of red blood cell detection, reduce the burden of patients, and improve the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment. METHODS: Hemolytic samples were selected and then corrected using the new formula. Plasma free hemoglobin (fHB) was used as the criterion to determine the degree of hemolysis; the uncertainty of measurement is acceptable as the limit value of deviation between the measured value and the revised value. Hemolysis simulation analysis in vitro and continuous monitoring of clinical patients were used to verify the correction effect. RESULTS: A total of 83 clinical samples with hemolysis were collected and analyzed; fHB 1.4 g/L was selected as the unacceptable value for clinical hemolysis detection. In hemolytic samples, the red blood cell parameters corrected by formula are significantly different from those uncorrected and had a good consistency with those before hemolysis. CONCLUSION: The results show that the hemolysis phenomenon of CBC has a significant impact on routine blood testing. By using the new formula, the influence of hemolysis on erythrocyte and related parameters can be quickly and easily corrected, thus avoiding venipuncture again for re-examination, reducing diagnostic errors, and saving medical resources.

RESUMO

Ustilaginoidea virens, which causes rice false smut (RFS), is one of the most detrimental rice fungal diseases and poses a severe threat to rice production and quality. Effectors in U. virens often act as a group of essential virulence factors that play crucial roles in the interaction between host and the pathogen. Thus, the functions of individual effectors in U. virens need to be further explored. Here, we demonstrated a small secreted hypersensitive response-inducing protein (hrip), named UvHrip1, which was highly conserved in U. virens isolates. UvHrip1 was also proven to suppress necrosis-like defense symptoms in N. benthamiana induced by the oomycete elicitor INF1. The localization of UvHrip1 was mainly in the nuclei and cytoplasm via monitoring the UvHrip1-GFP fusion protein in rice cells. Furthermore, Y2H and BiFC assay demonstrated that UvHrip1 interacted with OsHGW, which is a critical regulator in heading date and grain weight signaling pathways in rice. Expression patterns of defense- and heading date-related genes, OsPR1#051 and OsMYB21, were down-regulated over U. virens infection in rice. Collectively, our data provide a theory for gaining an insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying the UvHrip1 virulence function.

RESUMO

In previous work, we presented experimental and theoretical evidence that D-3F or 4-N-(2-Amino-3-fluoropyridine)-4-deoxidation-4'-demethylepipofophyllotoxin induced G2 /M phase arrest and apoptosis, purportedly by increasing the expression of P53. However, the precise mechanism of D-3F action is currently unknown. Here, we investigated the mechanism by which D-3F treatment induces increased expression of P53. This study showed that D-3F definitively inhibited the activity of topoisomerase II in a dose-dependent manner and resulted in DNA damage. The results were in overall agreement with modeling and docking studies performed on D-3F. In addition, D-3F increased the levels of P53 and P21 in HeLa cells in a dose-dependent manner, this in turn prolonged the half-life of P53. Taken together, these data suggested that D-3F-mediated transient enhancement of P53 stabilization may be critical for the P53/P21 signalling pathway leading to G2 /M phase arrest on HeLa cells. Furthermore, D-3F downregulated the phosphorylation of E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase murine double minute 2 (Mdm2) at Ser166, inhibited Mdm2-mediated ubiquitination of P53, and released 60S ribosomal protein L11 (RPL11) from the nucleolus into the nucleoplasm. To conclude, the topoisomerase II inhibitor D-3F causes P53 to accumulate in HeLa cell lines by enhancing its stability as a result of DNA-damage induced RPL11 relocalization and subsequent blocking of the P53-Mdm2 feedback loop.

RESUMO

To observe the protective effect of Longxue Tongluo capsule (LTC) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (EAhy.926 cells) injury induced by oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL, 100 mg·L⁻¹). The effect of the cell viability of LTCin alleviating OX-LDL-induced endothelial cell injury was determined by MTT and LDH assay. The effect of LTC on lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), nitric oxide (NO), super oxide dlsmutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were detected by corresponding assay kits according to manufacturer's instruction. The effect of LTC on the protein expressions of intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), p65, p-p65, IKB and p-IKB were detected by Western blot. The results showed that compared with the normal control group, the activity of EAhy.926 cells was significantly decreased, LDH leakage (P<0.01) increased, NO content and SOD activity significantly decreased (P<0.01, P<0.05), and the expressions of ICAM-1, VCAM-1, p-p65/p65 and p-IKB(P<0.05)increased.This study demonstrated that LTC had no significant effect on the growth of normal cells. The treatment with LTC significantly promoted the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells damagedby ox-LDL, decreased MDA content and LDH release, andincreased the activity of SOD and NO content. Meanwhile, ox-LDL significantly increased the expressions of ICAM-1, VCAM-1, p-p65/p65, p-IKB/IKB in Eahy.926 cells; these effects were suppressed by LTC at 1, 2 mg·L⁻¹. In conclusion, LTC has a significant protective effect on human umbilical vein endothelial cells caused by ox-LDL. This study suggested that LTC has a certain therapeutic effect on AS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between telomere length changes and age, and to provide data and reference for further study of geriatric medical problems.
Methods: The healthy people over 20 years old were chosen as subject from several hospitals by random sampling method, and their peripheral blood samples were collected. The relative length of telomere was detected by quantitative real-time PCR, and the relationship between age and telomere length was analyzed by statistical software.
Results: A total of 1 022 samples were obtained. There were significant differences in the relative telomere length among different age groups (F=21.492, P<0.001). Telomere length and age showed negative correlation (r=-0.325, P<0.001), the regression equation was y=-0.008x+1.772 (x for age, y for the average telomere length, P<0.001).
Conclusion: The telomere length for peripheral blood leukocytes in healthy people varies between different age groups, suggesting that telomere length gradually decreases with age.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the distribution of psychological aging in healthy population and its relationship with telomere length in peripheral blood leukocyte, and to provide reference for aging evaluation.
Methods: Stratified random samples were obtained according to age and they were divided into 9 age groups. The age-related psychological information were collected from healthy people by using the self-made scale. Situation of psychological aging, correlation between age and telomere length and score of this scale were analyzed by statistical software.
Results: A total of 2 100 questionnaires were distributed, and 2 060 of them were valid and has been recovered, with an efficiency of 98.10%. The ratio of male to female was 0.95:1; psychological aging score was in the range of 8.62-23.14; cognitive function score was in the range of 2.25-10.77; emotion score was in the range of 1.45-6.73; personality score was in the range of 0.96-4.22; motivation score was in the range of 1.50-7.18. The correlation coefficient of psychological aging scores with age was 0.721 (P<0.001). The average relative telomere length was 1.06±0.26, and relative telomere length in different age groups were significantly different (F=35.803, P<0.001). Telomere length was negatively correlated with age (r=-0.964, P<0.001) and psychological aging scores (r=-0.915, P=0.004).
Conclusion: The empirical study of physiological aging scale in healthy population shows that the scores of physical aging are increased with age and that the telomere length is negatively correlated with aging scores, suggesting that the scale can provide reference for the comprehensive evaluation of aging.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Although pneumonia is easily diagnosed, determining the causative agent is difficult due to low pathogen detection rates. We performed a prospective observational study to evaluate the utility of measuring inflammatory cytokine levels to discriminate between pneumonia caused by typical bacteria, respiratory syncytial virus, or Mycoplasma pneumoniae in a pediatric population. DESIGN: Serum inflammatory cytokine levels at early stages of the disease were evaluated for pneumonia caused by the three different pathogenic microorganisms. SETTING: The Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, China. PATIENTS: One hundred sixty-six patients with bacterial pneumonia, 182 with M. pneumonia, and 167 with respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: The levels of interleukin-6 for pneumonia were significantly higher with typical bacteria than with either Mycoplasma pneumoniae or respiratory syncytial virus (p < 0.001). The area under the curve for serum concentrations of interleukin-6 was 0.997. A serum interleukin-6 level of greater than or equal to 93.0 pg/mL had 100.0% sensitivity and 99.14% specificity in discriminating bacterial pneumonia from respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia and Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia. The interleukin-6 levels were higher in patients with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia than in those with respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia (p < 0.001). They also simultaneously had lower interleukin-10 levels than patients with respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia who had interleukin-10 levels comparable to those of patients with bacterial pneumonia, indicating a significant difference in the interleukin-6/interleukin-10 ratio between patients with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia and respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia (median interleukin-6/interleukin-10 ratio, 2.5 vs 0.5; p < 0.001). At an optimal cut-off value of 0.8, the interleukin-6/interleukin-10 ratio showed 90.3% sensitivity and 88.0% specificity. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that interleukin-6 is a good biomarker for identifying bacterial pneumonia and that the interleukin-6/interleukin-10 ratio is an effective biomarker for discriminating Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia from respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To build a physiological aging scale for healthy people.
METHODS: We collected age-related physiologic items through literature screening and expert interview. Two rounds of Delphi were implemented. The importance, feasibility and the degree of authority for the physiological index system were graded. Using analytic hierarchy process, we determined the weight of dimensions and items.
RESULTS: Using Delphy mothod, 17 physiological and other professional experts offered the results as follow: coefficient of expert authorities Cr was 0.86±0.03, coordination coefficients for the first and second round were 0.264(χ2=229.691, P<0.001) and 0.293(χ2=228.474,P<0.001), respectively. The consistency was good. The aging scale for healthy people included 3 dimensions, namely physical form, feeling movement and functional status. Each dimension had 8 items. The weight coefficients for the 3 dimensions were 0.54, 0.16, and 0.30, respectively. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.893, the reliability was 0.796, and the variance of the common factor was 58.17%.
CONCLUSION: The improved Delphi method or physiological aging scale is satisfied, which can provide reference for the evaluation of aging.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical patterns in young Chinese patients (less than 40 years old) with laryngeal squamous cell cancer (LSCC) and the outcome of primary open surgery. METHODS: Thirty-four young patients, with histologically confirmed LSCC between 1985 and 2005 at Qilu Hospital and Affiliated Hospital of Weifang Medical College, who underwent primary open surgery were retrospectively evaluated according to the clinical patterns in comparison with 374 non-young patients (older than 40 years). The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the survival rate. The relevance of smoking, tumor location, tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging, lymph node involvement, tumor size, and histological differentiation to overall survival was tested by multivariate analysis. RESULTS: There was a significantly higher rate of smoking (p = 0.020) in the non-young patients compared to the young patients, but no significant difference was observed in alcohol consumption, tumor location, tumor size, TNM staging, lymph node metastasis, histological grade, and 5-year overall survival. One-year survival rates were 100%, 3-year survival rates were 79.41%, and 5-year survival rates were 67.65%. In the multivariate analysis, lymph node involvement (p = 0.006), tumor stage (p = 0.022), and tumor size (p = 0.004) proved to be significant predictors of overall survival. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of smoking was significantly higher in non-young patients compared to young patients. Primary surgery with or without radiotherapy may provide a value treatment option for young LSCC. Nodal status, tumor stage, and tumor size were the primary determinants of overall survival in multivariate analysis. These data may provide useful information for counseling and treatment planning.

RESUMO

Pregnane X receptor (PXR) is key transcription factors which mainly regulate the expression of CYP3A genes. At the molecular level, PXR has been revealed the protection mechanism of the body against xenochemicals and a major mode of the drug-drug interactions. Besides playing an important role in drug metabolism and interactions, PXR and its target genes also play an important role in maintaining normal physiological function and homeostasis. Therefore, it is necessary to study the regulation of PXR and its related pharmacological effects of TCM and natural products, and to provide new clues for the new pharmacological pathway.

RESUMO

The radiation characteristic of plasma antenna is investigated by using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) approach in this paper. Through using FDTD method, we study the propagation of electromagnetic wave in free space in stretched coordinate. And the iterative equations of Maxwell equation are derived. In order to validate the correctness of this method, we simulate the process of electromagnetic wave propagating in free space. Results show that electromagnetic wave spreads out around the signal source and can be absorbed by the perfectly matched layer (PML). Otherwise, we study the propagation of electromagnetic wave in plasma by using the Boltzmann-Maxwell theory. In order to verify this theory, the whole process of electromagnetic wave propagating in plasma under one-dimension case is simulated. Results show that Boltzmann-Maxwell theory can be used to explain the phenomenon of electromagnetic wave propagating in plasma. Finally, the two-dimensional simulation model of plasma antenna is established under the cylindrical coordinate. And the near-field and far-field radiation pattern of plasma antenna are obtained. The experiments show that the variation of electron density can introduce the change of radiation characteristic.

RESUMO

Human rotavirus (RV) and adenovirus (AdV) have been recognized as common enteric viruses associated with viral acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in children aged<5 years. However, with the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been suppressed due to various aggressive and effective anti-epidemic measures, the prevalence of other viruses has also been affected. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the epidemiological characterization of RV, AdV, and coinfections among children with AGE in a hospital in Hangzhou from 2019 to 2023. The overall changes, seasonal distribution, and age distribution of enteroviruses were analyzed based on 5 years of records. All data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0. A total of 102,049 samples were analyzed from January 2019 to August 2023, and among them 15,911 (15.59%) were positive specimens, 11,646 (11.41%) were RV-positive, 4,057 (3.98%) were AdV-positive, and 208 (0.20%) were coinfection. The positive rate among males was 15.54%, while among females was 15.66% with a male-to-female ratio of 1.42:1. There was no significant difference in the positive rates of enterovirus infection between males and females. Significant associations were found between the month group and RV/AdV infection, with RV detection peaking in winter (74.18%) and early spring (29.22%), while AdV has a high prevalence in summer (16.03%) and spring (12.71%). The age group was also found to be significantly associated with RV/AdV infection, with RV being most prevalent in the 1-3-year-old age group (16.99%), while AdV was highest in the 3-5-year-old age group (8.10%).IMPORTANCEThis study highlights the epidemiological changes of rotavirus (RV), adenovirus (AdV), and coinfections in children with acute gastroenteritis (AGE) before, during, and after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) periods. There was a highly statistically significant difference in the positive rates of RV-positive, AdV-positive, and coinfection (P < 0.001), indicating that RV remains the main pathogen causing AGE. It emphasizes the importance of continuous surveillance of RV and AdV at both local and global levels. Regular surveillance of prevalent rotavirus strains will facilitate the development of new inactivated rotavirus vaccines and aid in disease prevention and control.
