BACKGROUND: The relationship between dietary acrylamide intake and renal cell carcinoma risk is inconclusive. In consideration of the recent findings, we conducted an updated meta-analysis to assess the association between acrylamide intake and renal cell carcinoma risk. RESULTS: PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases have been used to identify epidemiological studies on dietary acrylamide intake and renal cell carcinoma risk. This meta-analysis study included eight studies, 2843 cases, and 309 920 controls/participants. We performed meta-analyses to calculate the summary relative risk (RR) for the highest versus lowest intake of dietary acrylamide. No meaningful association was found for renal cell carcinoma; RR was 1.12 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.97-1.28). Among participants who never smoked, no association was found between dietary acrylamide and renal cell carcinoma; the RR for highest versus lowest intake of dietary acrylamide was 1.11 (95% CI: 0.93-1.32). CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis study indicates that dietary acrylamide is not related to the risk of renal cell carcinoma. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

BACKGROUND: The meta-analysis was aimed to evaluate the effects of AMPD1 gene C34T polymorphism on cardiac function indexes, blood pressure and prognosis in patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). METHODS: Eligible studies were retrieved through a comprehensive search of electronic databases and manual search. Then the high-quality studies met the rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, as well as related to the subject was selected for the study. Comprehensive data analyses were conducted using STATA software 12.0. RESULTS: The study results revealed that CVD patients with CT + TT genotype of AMPD1 C34T polymorphism presented elevated left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (%) and reduced left ventricular end diastolic dimension (LVEDD) (mm) as compared with CC genotype, moreover, the subgroup analysis found that the LVEF (%) was markedly higher in heart failure (HF) patients carrying CT + TT genotype than CC genotype. Besides, the systolic blood pressure (SBP) (mmHg) in CVD patients with CT + TT genotype was obviously decreased in contrast with the CC genotype. Patients suffered from HF with different genotypes (CT + TT and CC) of AMPD1 C34T polymorphism exhibited no significant differences in total survival rate and cardiac survival rate. CONCLUSIONS: Our current meta-analysis indicated that the T allele of AMPD1 gene C34T polymorphism may be correlated with LVEF, LVEDD and SBP, which plays a protective role in the cardiac functions and blood pressure in CVD patients, but had no effects on total survival rate and cardiac survival rate for HF.

The objective of this systematic review was to estimate the effectiveness of problem-based learning (PBL) in developing the professional communication competences of nursing students and nurses. We have searched PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, and VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals to identify all the English and Chinese language studies that used PBL to determine the effectiveness of developing professional communication competences of nursing students and nurses. Then two reviewers independently assessed eligibility and extracted data. Quality assessment using the Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tool for randomized controlled trials and Joanna Briggs Institute Meta Analysis of Statistics Assessment and Review Instrument (JBI-MAStARI) for quasi-experimental studies. A total of 12 studies were included, all of which were inclined to low bias. Eleven articles showed that PBL developed the communication skills of nursing students or nurses, while only one article revealed no significant difference between PBL and the traditional method. Owing to differences in experimental design and the method and duration of intervention, some of these studies combined PBL with other methods, and the evaluation tools were different. This systematic review cautiously supports the outcomes of PBL compared with traditional learning.
