RESUMO

Parkinson's disease (PD) is challenging for clinicians to accurately diagnose in the early stages. Quantitative measures of brain health can be obtained safely and non-invasively using medical imaging techniques like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). For accurate diagnosis of PD, powerful machine learning and deep learning models as well as the effectiveness of medical imaging tools for assessing neurological health are required. This study proposes four deep learning models with a hybrid model for the early detection of PD. For the simulation study, two standard datasets are chosen. Further to improve the performance of the models, grey wolf optimization (GWO) is used to automatically fine-tune the hyperparameters of the models. The GWO-VGG16, GWO-DenseNet, GWO-DenseNet + LSTM, GWO-InceptionV3 and GWO-VGG16 + InceptionV3 are applied to the T1,T2-weighted and SPECT DaTscan datasets. All the models performed well and obtained near or above 99% accuracy. The highest accuracy of 99.94% and AUC of 99.99% is achieved by the hybrid model (GWO-VGG16 + InceptionV3) for T1,T2-weighted dataset and 100% accuracy and 99.92% AUC is recorded for GWO-VGG16 + InceptionV3 models using SPECT DaTscan dataset.

To address the path planning problem for automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in challenging and complex industrial environments, a hybrid optimization approach is proposed, integrating a Kalman filter with grey wolf optimization (GWO), as well as incorporating partially matched crossover (PMX) mutation operations and roulette wheel selection. Paths are first optimized using GWO, then refined with Kalman filter corrections every ten iterations. Moreover, roulette wheel selection guides robust parent path selection, while an elite strategy and partially matched crossover (PMX) with mutation generate diverse offspring. Extensive simulations and experiments were carried out under a densely packed goods scenario and complex indoor layout scenario, within a fully automated warehouse environment. The results showed that this hybrid method not only enhanced the various optimization metrics but also ensured more predictable and collision-free navigation paths, particularly in environments with complex obstacles. These improvements lead to increased operational efficiency and safety, highlighting the method's potential in real-world applications.

Baseflow is a crucial water source in the inland river basins of high-cold mountainous region, playing a significant role in maintaining runoff stability. It is challenging to select the most suitable baseflow separation method in data-scarce high-cold mountainous region and to evaluate effects of climate factors and underlying surface changes on baseflow variability and seasonal distribution characteristics. Here we attempt to address how meteorological factors and underlying surface changes affect baseflow using the Grey Wolf Optimizer Digital Filter Method (GWO-DFM) for rapid baseflow separation and the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network model for baseflow prediction, clarifying interpretability of the LSTM model in baseflow forecasting. The proposed method was successfully implemented using a 63-year time series (1958-2020) of flow data from the Tai Lan River (TLR) basin in the high-cold mountainous region, along with 21 years of ERA5-land meteorological data and MODIS data (2000-2020). The results indicate that: (1) GWO-DFM can rapidly identify the optimal filtering parameters. It employs the arithmetic average of three methods, namely Chapman, Chapman-Maxwell and Eckhardt filter, as the best baseflow separation approach for the TLR basin. Additionally, the baseflow significantly increases after the second mutation of the baseflow rate. (2) Baseflow sources are mainly influenced by precipitation infiltration, glacier frozen soil layers, and seasonal ponding. (3) Solar radiation, temperature, precipitation, and NDVI are the primary factors influencing baseflow changes, with Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficients exceeding 0.78 in both the LSTM model training and prediction periods. (4) Changes in baseflow are most influenced by solar radiation, temperature, and NDVI. This study systematically analyzes the changes in baseflow and response mechanisms in high-cold mountainous region, contributing to the management of water resources in mountainous basins under changing environmental conditions.

We propose an optimized Clockwork Recurrent Neural Network (CW-RNN) based approach to address temporal dynamics and nonlinearity in network security situations, improving prediction accuracy and real-time performance. By leveraging the clock-cycle RNN, we enable the model to capture both short-term and long-term temporal features of network security situations. Additionally, we utilize the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm to optimize the hyperparameters of the network, thus constructing an enhanced network security situation prediction model. The introduction of a clock-cycle for hidden units allows the model to learn short-term information from high-frequency update modules while retaining long-term memory from low-frequency update modules, thereby enhancing the model's ability to capture data patterns. Experimental results demonstrate that the optimized clock-cycle RNN outperforms other network models in extracting the temporal and nonlinear features of network security situations, leading to improved prediction accuracy. Furthermore, our approach has low time complexity and excellent real-time performance, ideal for monitoring large-scale network traffic in sensor networks.

Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks pose a significant cybersecurity threat to software-defined networks (SDNs). This paper proposes a feature-engineering- and machine-learning-based approach to detect DDoS attacks in SDNs. First, the CSE-CIC-IDS2018 dataset was cleaned and normalized, and the optimal feature subset was found using an improved binary grey wolf optimization algorithm. Next, the optimal feature subset was trained and tested in Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN), Decision Tree, and XGBoost machine learning algorithms, from which the best classifier was selected for DDoS attack detection and deployed in the SDN controller. The results show that RF performs best when compared across several performance metrics (e.g., accuracy, precision, recall, F1 and AUC values). We also explore the comparison between different models and algorithms. The results show that our proposed method performed the best and can effectively detect and identify DDoS attacks in SDNs, providing a new idea and solution for the security of SDNs.

To better improve the ride comfort and handling stability of vehicles, a new two-stage ISD semi-active suspension structure is designed, which consists of the three elements, including an adjustable damper, spring, and inerter. Meanwhile, a new semi-active ISD suspension control strategy is proposed based on this structure. Firstly, the fuzzy neural network's initial parameters are optimized using the grey wolf optimization algorithm. Then, the fuzzy neural network with the optimal parameters is adjusted to the PID parameters. Finally, a 1/4 2-degree-of-freedom ISD semi-active suspension model is constructed in Matlab/Simulink, and the dynamics simulation is carried out for the three schemes using PID control, fuzzy neural network PID control, and improved fuzzy neural network PID control, respectively. The results show that compared with adopting PID control and fuzzy neural network PID control strategy, the vehicle body acceleration and tire dynamic loads are significantly reduced after using the grey wolf optimized fuzzy neural network PID control strategy, which shows that the control strategy proposed in this paper can significantly improve the vehicle smoothness and the stability of the handling.

Autonomous driving technology has not yet been widely adopted, in part due to the challenge of achieving high-accuracy trajectory tracking in complex and hazardous driving scenarios. To this end, we proposed an adaptive sliding mode controller optimized by an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Based on the improved PSO, we also proposed an enhanced grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm to optimize the controller. Taking the expected trajectory and vehicle speed as inputs, the proposed control scheme calculates the tracking error based on an expanded vector field guidance law and obtains the control values, including the vehicle's orientation angle and velocity on the basis of sliding mode control (SMC). To improve PSO, we proposed a three-stage update function for the inertial weight and a dynamic update law for the learning rates to avoid the local optimum dilemma. For the improvement in GWO, we were inspired by PSO and added speed and memory mechanisms to the GWO algorithm. Using the improved optimization algorithm, the control performance was successfully optimized. Moreover, Lyapunov's approach is adopted to prove the stability of the proposed control schemes. Finally, the simulation shows that the proposed control scheme is able to provide more precise response, faster convergence, and better robustness in comparison with the other widely used controllers.

Lung cancer is a high-risk disease that causes mortality worldwide; nevertheless, lung nodules are the main manifestation that can help to diagnose lung cancer at an early stage, lowering the workload of radiologists and boosting the rate of diagnosis. Artificial intelligence-based neural networks are promising technologies for automatically detecting lung nodules employing patient monitoring data acquired from sensor technology through an Internet-of-Things (IoT)-based patient monitoring system. However, the standard neural networks rely on manually acquired features, which reduces the effectiveness of detection. In this paper, we provide a novel IoT-enabled healthcare monitoring platform and an improved grey-wolf optimization (IGWO)-based deep convulution neural network (DCNN) model for lung cancer detection. The Tasmanian Devil Optimization (TDO) algorithm is utilized to select the most pertinent features for diagnosing lung nodules, and the convergence rate of the standard grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm is modified, resulting in an improved GWO algorithm. Consequently, an IGWO-based DCNN is trained on the optimal features obtained from the IoT platform, and the findings are saved in the cloud for the doctor's judgment. The model is built on an Android platform with DCNN-enabled Python libraries, and the findings are evaluated against cutting-edge lung cancer detection models.

Along with the advancement of online platforms and significant growth in Internet usage, various threats and cyber-attacks have been emerging and become more complicated and perilous in a day-by-day base. Anomaly-based intrusion detection systems (AIDSs) are lucrative techniques for dealing with cybercrimes. As a relief, AIDS can be equipped with artificial intelligence techniques to validate traffic contents and tackle diverse illicit activities. A variety of methods have been proposed in the literature in recent years. Nevertheless, several important challenges like high false alarm rates, antiquated datasets, imbalanced data, insufficient preprocessing, lack of optimal feature subset, and low detection accuracy in different types of attacks have still remained to be solved. In order to alleviate these shortcomings, in this research a novel intrusion detection system that efficiently detects various types of attacks is proposed. In preprocessing, Smote-Tomek link algorithm is utilized to create balanced classes and produce a standard CICIDS dataset. The proposed system is based on gray wolf and Hunger Games Search (HGS) meta-heuristic algorithms to select feature subsets and detect different attacks such as distributed denial of services, Brute force, Infiltration, Botnet, and Port Scan. Also, to improve exploration and exploitation and boost the convergence speed, genetic algorithm operators are combined with standard algorithms. Using the proposed feature selection technique, more than 80 percent of irrelevant features are removed from the dataset. The behavior of the network is modeled using nonlinear quadratic regression and optimized utilizing the proposed hybrid HGS algorithm. The results show the superior performance of the hybrid algorithm of HGS compared to the baseline algorithms and the well-known research. As shown in the analogy, the proposed model obtained an average test accuracy rate of 99.17%, which has better performance than the baseline algorithm with 94.61% average accuracy.

This paper proposes a new method for predicting rotation error based on improved grey wolf-optimized support vector regression (IGWO-SVR), because the existing rotation error research methods cannot meet the production beat and product quality requirements of enterprises, because of the disadvantages of its being time-consuming and having poor calculation accuracy. First, the grey wolf algorithm is improved based on the optimal Latin hypercube sampling initialization, nonlinear convergence factor, and dynamic weights to improve its accuracy in optimizing the parameters of the support vector regression (SVR) model. Then, the IGWO-SVR prediction model between the manufacturing error of critical parts and the rotation error is established with the RV-40E reducer as a case. The results show that the improved grey wolf algorithm shows better parameter optimization performance, and the IGWO-SVR method shows better prediction performance than the existing back propagation (BP) neural network and BP neural network optimized by the sparrow search algorithm rotation error prediction methods, as well as the SVR models optimized by particle swarm algorithm and grey wolf algorithm. The mean squared error of IGWO-SVR model is 0.026, the running time is 7.843 s, and the maximum relative error is 13.5%, which can meet the requirements of production beat and product quality. Therefore, the IGWO-SVR method can be well applied to the rotate vector (RV) reducer parts-matching model to improve product quality and reduce rework rate and cost.

Grey wolf optimization (GWO) is a meta-heuristic algorithm inspired by the hierarchy and hunting behavior of grey wolves. GWO has the superiorities of simpler concept and fewer adjustment parameters, and has been widely used in different fields. However, there are some disadvantages in avoiding prematurity and falling into local optimum. This paper presents an improved grey wolf optimization (IGWO) to ameliorate these drawbacks. Firstly, a modified position update mechanism for pursuing high quality solutions is developed. By designing an ameliorative position update formula, a proper balance between the exploration and exploitation is achieved. Moreover, the leadership hierarchy is strengthened by proposing adaptive weights of α, ß and δ. Then, a dynamic local optimum escape strategy is proposed to reinforce the ability of the algorithm to escape from the local stagnations. Finally, some individuals are repositioned with the aid of the positions of the leaders. These individuals are pulled to new positions near the leaders, helping to accelerate the convergence of the algorithm. To verify the effectiveness of IGWO, a series of contrast experiments are conducted. On the one hand, IGWO is compared with some state-of-the-art GWO variants and several promising meta-heuristic algorithms on 20 benchmark functions. Experimental results indicate that IGWO performs better than other competitors. On the other hand, the applicability of IGWO is verified by a robot global path planning problem, and simulation results demonstrate that IGWO can plan shorter and safer paths. Therefore, IGWO is successfully applied to the path planning as a new method.

To solve the problem of traversal multi-target path planning for an unmanned cruise ship in an unknown obstacle environment of lakes, this study proposed a hybrid multi-target path planning algorithm. The proposed algorithm can be divided into two parts. First, the multi-target path planning problem was transformed into a traveling salesman problem, and an improved Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm was used to calculate the multi-target cruise sequence. The improved GWO algorithm optimized the convergence factor by introducing the Beta function, which can improve the convergence speed of the traditional GWO algorithm. Second, based on the planned target sequence, an improved D* Lite algorithm was used to implement the path planning between every two target points in an unknown obstacle environment. The heuristic function in the D* Lite algorithm was improved to reduce the number of expanded nodes, so the search speed was improved, and the planning path was smoothed. The proposed algorithm was verified by experiments and compared with the other four algorithms in both ordinary and complex environments. The experimental results demonstrated the strong applicability and high effectiveness of the proposed method.

Energy consumption is increasing daily, and with that comes a continuous increase in energy costs. Predicting future energy consumption and building an effective energy management system for smart homes has become essential for many industrialists to solve the problem of energy wastage. Machine learning has shown significant outcomes in the field of energy management systems. This paper presents a comprehensive predictive-learning based framework for smart home energy management systems. We propose five modules: classification, prediction, optimization, scheduling, and controllers. In the classification module, we classify the category of users and appliances by using k-means clustering and support vector machine based classification. We predict the future energy consumption and energy cost for each user category using long-term memory in the prediction module. We define objective functions for optimization and use grey wolf optimization and particle swarm optimization for scheduling appliances. For each case, we give priority to user preferences and indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. We define control rules to control the usage of appliances according to the schedule while prioritizing user preferences and minimizing energy consumption and cost. We perform experiments to evaluate the performance of our proposed methodology, and the results show that our proposed approach significantly reduces energy cost while providing an optimized solution for energy consumption that prioritizes user preferences and considers both indoor and outdoor environmental factors.

BACKGROUND: Although detection of COVID-19 from chest X-ray radiography (CXR) images is faster than PCR sputum testing, the accuracy of detecting COVID-19 from CXR images is lacking in the existing deep learning models. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to classify COVID-19 and normal patients from CXR images using semantic segmentation networks for detecting and labeling COVID-19 infected lung lobes in CXR images. METHODS: For semantically segmenting infected lung lobes in CXR images for COVID-19 early detection, three structurally different deep learning (DL) networks such as SegNet, U-Net and hybrid CNN with SegNet plus U-Net, are proposed and investigated. Further, the optimized CXR image semantic segmentation networks such as GWO SegNet, GWO U-Net, and GWO hybrid CNN are developed with the grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm. The proposed DL networks are trained, tested, and validated without and with optimization on the openly available dataset that contains 2,572 COVID-19 CXR images including 2,174 training images and 398 testing images. The DL networks and their GWO optimized networks are also compared with other state-of-the-art models used to detect COVID-19 CXR images. RESULTS: All optimized CXR image semantic segmentation networks for COVID-19 image detection developed in this study achieved detection accuracy higher than 92%. The result shows the superiority of optimized SegNet in segmenting COVID-19 infected lung lobes and classifying with an accuracy of 98.08% compared to optimized U-Net and hybrid CNN. CONCLUSION: The optimized DL networks has potential to be utilised to more objectively and accurately identify COVID-19 disease using semantic segmentation of COVID-19 CXR images of the lungs.

The recent outbreak of COVID-19 has brought the entire world to a standstill. The rapid pace at which the virus has spread across the world is unprecedented. The sheer number of infected cases and fatalities in such a short period of time has overwhelmed medical facilities across the globe. The rapid pace of the spread of the novel coronavirus makes it imperative that its' spread be forecasted well in advance in order to plan for eventualities. An accurate early forecasting of the number of cases would certainly assist governments and various other organizations to strategize and prepare for the newly infected cases, well in advance. In this work, a novel method of forecasting the future cases of infection, based on the study of data mined from the internet search terms of people in the affected region, is proposed. The study utilizes relevant Google Trends of specific search terms related to COVID-19 pandemic along with European Centre for Disease prevention and Control (ECDC) data on COVID-19 spread, to forecast the future trends of daily new cases, cumulative cases and deaths for India, USA and UK. For this purpose, a hybrid GWO-LSTM model is developed, where the network parameters of Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network are optimized using Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO). The results of the proposed model are compared with the baseline models including Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), and it is observed that the proposed model achieves much better results in forecasting the future trends of the spread of infection. Using the proposed hybrid GWO-LSTM model incorporating online big data from Google Trends, a reduction in Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) values for forecasting results to the extent of about 98% have been observed. Further, reduction in MAPE by 74% for models incorporating Google Trends was observed, thus, confirming the efficacy of utilizing public sentiments in terms of search frequencies of relevant terms online, in forecasting pandemic numbers.

Optical fiber sensors based on fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are prone to measurement errors if the cross-sensitivity between temperature and strain is not properly considered. This paper describes a self-compensated technique for canceling the undesired influence of temperature in strain measurement. An edge-filter-based interrogator is proposed and the central peaks of two FBGs (sensor and reference) are matched with the positive and negative slopes of a Fabry-Perot interferometer that acts as an optical filter. A tuning process performed by the grey wolf optimizer (GWO) algorithm is required to determine the optimal spectral characteristics of each FBG. The interrogation range is not compromised by the proposed technique, being determined by the spectral characteristics of the optical filter in accordance with the traditional edge-filtering interrogation. Simulations show that, by employing FBGs with optimal characteristics, temperature variations of 30 °C led to an average relative error of 3.4% for strain measurements up to 700µÏµ. The proposed technique was experimentally tested under non-ideal conditions: two FBGs with spectral characteristics different from the optimized results were used. The temperature sensibility decreased by 50.8% as compared to a temperature uncompensated interrogation system based on an edge filter. The non-ideal experimental conditions were simulated and the maximum error between theoretical and experimental data was 5.79%, proving that the results from simulation and experimentation are compatible.

It is difficult to optimize the fault model parameters when Extreme Random Forest is used to detect the electric pitch system fault model of the double-fed wind turbine generator set. Therefore, Extreme Random Forest which was optimized by improved grey wolf algorithm (IGWO-ERF) was proposed to solve the problems mentioned above. First, IGWO-ERF imports the Cosine model to nonlinearize the linearly changing convergence factor α to balance the global exploration and local exploitation capabilities of the algorithm. Then, in the later stage of the algorithm iteration, α wolf generates its mirror wolf based on the lens imaging learning strategy to increase the diversity of the population and prevent local optimum of the population. The electric pitch system fault detection method of the wind turbine generator set sets the generator power of the variable pitch system as the main state parameter. First, it uses the Pearson correlation coefficient method to eliminate the features with low correlation with the electric pitch system generator power. Then, the remaining features are ranked by the importance of the RF features. Finally, the top N features are selected to construct the electric pitch system fault data set. The data set is divided into a training set and a test set. The training set is used to train the proposed fault detection model, and the test set is used for testing. Compared with other parameter optimization algorithms, the proposed method has lower FNR and FPR in the electric pitch system fault detection of the wind turbine generator set.

Electronic nose is a kind of widely-used artificial olfactory system for the detection and classification of volatile organic compounds. The high dimensionality of data collected by electronic noses can hinder the process of pattern recognition. Thus, the feature selection is an essential stage in building a robust and accurate model for gas recognition. This paper proposed an improved grey wolf optimizer (GWO) based algorithm for feature selection and applied it on electronic nose data for the first time. Two mechanisms are employed for the proposed algorithm. The first mechanism contains two novel binary transform approaches, which are used for searching feature subset from electronic nose data that maximizing the classification accuracy while minimizing the number of features. The second mechanism is based on the adaptive restart approach, which attempts to further enhance the search capability and stability of the algorithm. The proposed algorithm is compared with five efficient feature selection algorithms on three electronic nose data sets. Three classifiers and multiple assessment indicators are used to evaluate the performance of algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively select the feature subsets that are conducive to gas recognition, which can improve the performance of the electronic nose.

L-Lysine is produced by a complex non-linear fermentation process. A non-linear model predictive control (NMPC) scheme is proposed to control product concentration in real time for enhancing production. However, product concentration cannot be directly measured in real time. Least-square support vector machine (LSSVM) is used to predict product concentration in real time. Grey-Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm is used to optimize the key model parameters (penalty factor and kernel width) of LSSVM for increasing its prediction accuracy (GWO-LSSVM). The proposed optimal prediction model is used as a process model in the non-linear model predictive control to predict product concentration. GWO is also used to solve the non-convex optimization problem in non-linear model predictive control (GWO-NMPC) for calculating optimal future inputs. The proposed GWO-based prediction model (GWO-LSSVM) and non-linear model predictive control (GWO-NMPC) are compared with the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)-based prediction model (PSO-LSSVM) and non-linear model predictive control (PSO-NMPC) to validate their effectiveness. The comparative results show that the prediction accuracy, adaptability, real-time tracking ability, overall error and control precision of GWO-based predictive control is better compared to PSO-based predictive control.

In the gait recognition problem, most studies are devoted to developing gait descriptors rather than introducing new classification methods. This paper proposes hybrid methods that combine regularized discriminant analysis (RDA) and swarm intelligence techniques for gait recognition. The purpose of this study is to develop strategies that will achieve better gait recognition results than those achieved by classical classification methods. In our approach, particle swarm optimization (PSO), grey wolf optimization (GWO), and whale optimization algorithm (WOA) are used. These techniques tune the observation weights and hyperparameters of the RDA method to minimize the objective function. The experiments conducted on the GPJATK dataset proved the validity of the proposed concept.
