RESUMO

To develop a highly sensitive carbon monoxide (CO) sensor with a wide range of humidity resistance, we focused on the Pd loading method on SnO2 nanoparticles and the thickness of the sensing layer. The Pd nanoparticles were loaded on the SnO2 surface using the surface immobilization method (SI-Pd/SnO2) and the colloidal protection method (CP-Pd/SnO2). The XPS analysis indicated that the Pd nanoparticles were a composite of PdO and Pd, regardless of the loading method. According to the evaluation of the electrical properties at 350 °C, the CO response in a humid atmosphere and the resistance toward humidity change using CP-Pd/SnO2 were higher than those using SI-Pd/SnO2, even though the Pd loading amount of SI-Pd/SnO2 was slightly larger than that of CP-Pd/SnO2. In addition, Pd/SnO2 prepared via the CP method with a thinner sensing layer showed a higher sensor response and greater stability to humidity changes at 300 °C, even though the humidity change influenced the CO response at 250 and 350 °C. Thus, the overall design of the surface Pd, including size, dispersity, and oxidation state, and the sensor fabrication, that is, the thickness of the sensing layer, offer a high-performance semiconductor-type CO gas sensor with a wide range of humidity resistance.

RESUMO

This study investigated the impact of molar ratio of CO2 to reductants H2O and H2, as well as Pd loading weight on CO2 reduction performance with Pd/TiO2 as the photocatalyst. The Pd/TiO2 film photocatalyst is prepared by the sol-gel and dip-coating process to prepare TiO2 film and the pulse arc plasma method is used to dope Pd on TiO2 film. The prepared Pd/TiO2 film was characterized by SEM, EPMA, STEM, EDS, and EELS. This study also investigated the performance of CO2 reduction under the illumination condition of Xe lamp with or without ultraviolet (UV) light. As a result, it is revealed that when the molar ratio of CO2/H2/H2O is set at 1:0.5:0.5, the best CO2 reduction performance has been obtained under the illumination condition of Xe lamp with and without UV light. In addition, it is found that the optimum Pd loading weight is 3.90 wt%. The maximum molar quantities of CO and CH4 produced per unit weight of photocatalyst are 30.3 µmol/g and 22.1 µmol/g, respectively, for the molar ratio of CO2/H2/H2O = 1:0.5:0.5 under the condition of Xe lamp illumination with UV light. With UV light, C2H4 and C2H6, as well as CO and CH4 are also produced by the Pd/TiO2 film photocatalyst prepared in this study.

RESUMO

Copper-based catalysts have been extensively investigated in electrochemical carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction to promote carbon products generated by requiring multiple electron transfer. However, hydrophilic electrodes are unfavourable for CO2 mass transfer and preferentially hydrogen (H2) evolution in electrochemical CO2 reduction. In this paper, a hydrophilic cupric oxide (CuO) electrode with a grassy morphology was prepared. CuO-derived Cu was confirmed as the active site for electrochemical CO2 reduction through wettability modulation. To enhance the intrinsic catalytic activity, a metal-oxide heterogeneous interface was created by engineering modulation at the interface, involving the loading of palladium (Pd) on CuO (CuO/Pd). Both the electrochemically active area and the electron transfer rate were enhanced by Pd loading, and significantly the reduced work function further facilitated the electron transfer between the electrode surface and the electrolyte. Consequently, the CuO/Pd electrode exhibited excellent excellent performance in electrochemical CO2 reduction, achieving a 54 % Faraday efficiency at -0.65 V for methanol (CH3OH). The metal-oxide interfacial effect potentially improves the intrinsic catalytic activity of hydrophilic CuO electrodes in electrochemical CO2 reduction, providing a conducive pathway for optimizing hydrophilic oxide electrodes in this process.

RESUMO

The development of efficient carbon-carbon cross-coupling catalysts with low noble metal amounts attracts much attention recently. Herein, a Cu/C-700/Pd nanocomposite is obtained by loading trace Pd2+ onto carbon support derived from a novel mononuclear copper complex, {[Cu(POP)2(Phen)2]BF4}. The as-prepared nanomaterial features the facial structure of highly dispersed copper phosphide nanoparticles as well as Pd nanoparticles via neighboring Cu-Pd sites. The Cu/C-700/Pd nanocomposite shows excellent catalytic activity (99.73%) and selectivity in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction, at trace Pd loading (0.43 mol%). Compared with the reported palladium nano catalysts, its advantages are proved. The appealing gateway to this stable, innovative and recyclability, Cu/C-700/Pd nanostructure recommends its beneficial utilization in carbon-carbon coupling and other environmentally friendly processes.

RESUMO

The effect of water vapor on Pd-loaded SnO2 sensor was investigated through the oxygen adsorption behavior and sensing properties toward hydrogen and CO under different humidity conditions. On the basis of the theoretical model reported previously, it was found that the mainly adsorbed oxygen species on the SnO2 surface in humid atmosphere was changed by loading Pd, more specifically, for neat SnO2 was O(-), while for 0.7% Pd-SnO2 was O(2-). The water vapor poisoning effect on electric resistance and sensor response was reduced by loading Pd. Moreover the sensor response in wet atmosphere was greatly enhanced by loading Pd. It seems that the electron depletion layer by p-n junction of PdO-SnO2 may impede OH(-) adsorption.
