RESUMO

Sapindus mukorossi has a wide distribution range, high application value, and broad developmental potential. Previous studies have mostly focused on the medicinal and economic value of soapberry; however, few studies have been conducted on its seed germination. This study measured the physiological indicators and hormone content of soapberry seeds at different germination stages and preliminarily determined that abscisic acid (ABA) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) are the key hormones that affect the germination of soapberry seeds. Both Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG enrichment) analyses detected hormone transduction pathways, further confirming the key role of plant hormones in the germination process of soapberry seeds. Through transcriptome analysis, we speculated that CYP707A and IPA are key genes in the ABA and IAA synthesis pathways, respectively. This study revealed the close relationship between plant hormones and soapberry seed germination and provided new ideas for further exploration of the germination mechanism of soapberry seeds.

BACKGROUND: Soapberry (Sapindus mukorossi) is an economically important multifunctional tree species. Triterpenoid saponins have many functions in soapberry. However, the types of uridine diphosphate (UDP) glucosyltransferases (UGTs) involved in the synthesis of triterpenoid saponins in soapberry have not been clarified. RESULTS: In this study, 42 SmUGTs were identified in soapberry, which were unevenly distributed on 12 chromosomes and had sequence lengths of 450 bp to 1638 bp, with an average of 1388 bp. The number of amino acids in SmUGTs was 149 to 545, with an average of 462. Most SmUGTs were acidic and hydrophilic unstable proteins, and their secondary structures were mainly α-helices and random coils. All had conserved UDPGT and PSPG-box domains. Phylogenetic analysis divided them into four subclasses, which glycosylated different carbon atoms. Prediction of cis-acting elements suggested roles of SmUGTs in plant development and responses to environmental stresses. The expression patterns of SmUGTs differed according to the developmental stage of fruits, as determined by transcriptomics and RT-qPCR. Co-expression network analysis of SmUGTs and related genes/transcription factors in the triterpenoid saponin synthesis pathway was also performed. The results indicated potential roles for many transcription factors, such as SmERFs, SmGATAs and SmMYBs. A correlation analysis showed that 42 SmUGTs were crucial in saponin synthesis in soapberry. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest optimal targets for manipulating glycosylation in soapberry triterpenoid saponin biosynthesis; they also provide a theoretical foundation for further evaluation of the functions of SmUGTs and analyses of their biosynthetic mechanisms.

Paddy straw (PS) burning is a concerning issue in South Asian countries, clamoring for exploring alternative management strategies. Being a rich source of silica, PS can be a potential nanosilica (SiNPs) source. The current study reports a pioneering approach for green synthesis of high-purity mesoporous SiNPs by sol-gel method using the aqueous extract of Sapindus mukorossi seed pericarp as a stabilizer. The mesoporous nature of SiNPs was harnessed as a carrier for the essential oil to develop the carrier-based formulation. SiNPs were characterized using XRD, EDX, FTIR, FE-SEM, TEM, AFM, DLS, water contact angle, and BET analysis. The synthesized SiNPs possessed a spheroid morphology with an average particle size of 20.34 ± 2.64 nm. XRD results confirmed its amorphous nature. The mesoporous nature of SiNPs was confirmed using BET analysis which showed a cumulative pore volume of 2.059 cm3/g and a high surface area of 746.32 m2/g. The SiNPs were further loaded with clove essential oil (CEO), and the encapsulation of CEO was assessed using UV-Vis, FTIR, and BET analysis. The in-vitro antifungal activity of CEO and CEO-loaded SiNPs (CEO-SiNPs) was evaluated using the agar plate assay. UV-Vis results depicted 62.64% encapsulation of CEO in SiNPs. The antifungal efficacy of CEO-SiNPs against F. oxysporum exhibited minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), i.e., 125 mg/L, while the MIC of CEO was found to be 250 mg/L. The study delivers new insights into the holistic utilization of PS and propitious contribution toward the circular economy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn., commonly known as soapberry, is widely cultivated as a landscaping tree in Southern China. In June 2019, a foliar disease with an incidence of ∼60% occurred on trees was observed in the soapberry germplasm repository, Jianning, Sanming, Fujian, China. The symptoms initially appeared as irregular small yellow spots, while the center of the lesions became dark brown with time. Fragments (size 3 to 4 mm2) taken from lesion margins were sterilized and cultured based on Wang et al. Two isolates (FJ1 and FJ21) were obtained with the following morphological characteristics on PDA, (1) FJ1: Conidiogenous cells were 9.7 to 25.0 × 1.5 to 2.2 µm (n=20). Alpha conidia were 6.1 to 8.3 × 2.2 to 3.0 µm (n=30), aseptate, hyaline, smooth, ellipsoidal. Beta conidia were 28.3 to 38.2 × 1.3 to 1.7 µm (n=30), hyaline, smooth, curved to hooked. Conidial drops were milky colored; (2) FJ21: Pycnidia were dark brown, 280 to 843 µm (n=30) in diam., globose, or irregular on alfalfa stems. Conidiophores were hyaline, cylindrical, smooth, and slightly tapered to the apex, 17.4 to 35.4 × 1.5 to 2.6 µm (n=20). Conidiogenous cells were 14.7 to 29.7 × 1.4 to 2.6 µm (n=20). Alpha conidia were 5.6 to 7.1 × 2.4 to 3.4 µm (n= 30), hyaline, smooth, ellipsoidal, or clavate, aseptate, biguttulate. Beta conidia not observed. Conidial drops were yellow. The morphological characteristics of FJ1 and FJ21 were similar to those of Diaporthe spp.. DNA of two isolates was extracted, and the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) and partial sequences of translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1-α), calmodulin (CAL), ß-tubulin (TUB), and histone H3 (HIS) genes were amplified with primers ITS1/ITS4, EF1-728F/EF1-986R, CAL228F/CAL737R, ßt2a/ßt2b, and CYLH3F/H3-1b, respectively. The sequences were deposited in GenBank (accession nos. MW585608 and MW768905 to MW768908 for FJ1; MT755625 and MT776728 to MT776731 for FJ21). The BLASTn results showed that the ITS, TEF1-α, TUB, HIS, and CAL sequences of FJ1 were 100, 99, 98, 98, and 99% identical to those of D. eres (NR144923, KJ210550, KJ420799, KJ420850, and KJ434999, respectively). For FJ21, BLASTing with the same loci showed 100, 100, 100, 99, and 100% similarity with those of D. unshiuensis (MH121530, MH121572, MH121607 MH121488, and MH121448, respectively). Phylogenetic analyses with the concatenated sequences placed FJ1 and FJ21 in the clades of D. eres and D. unshiuensis, respectively. Pathogenicity tests were performed by wounding leaves of 2-year-old soapberry seedlings with a sterile needle. The leaves were inoculated with D. eres and D. unshiuensis isolates, respectively, with 10 µl of conidial suspensions (106 conidia/ml). Three plants were used for each treatment, and the leaves of each plant were inoculated. The control was treated with 10 µl of sterile water. The plants were kept in a greenhouse (RH > 80%, 25 ± 2°C). In 5 days, all inoculated leaves showed lesions similar to the field symptoms. Controls were asymptomatic. Diaporthe eres and D. unshiuensis were reisolated from the diseased leaves. No fungus was isolated from the control. Previously, D. biconispora and D. sapindicola were reported as the causal agents of soapberry, but this is the first report of D. eres and D. unshiuensis causing leaf spots on S. mukorossi in China. These data will help develop effective strategies for managing this disease.

Periodontitis is a common oral disease mainly caused by bacterial infection and inflammation of the gingiva. In the prevention or treatment of periodontitis, anti-bacterial agents are used to inhibit pathogen growth, despite increasing levels of bacterial resistance. Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn (SM) seed oil has proven anti-bacterial and anti-inflammation properties. However, the possibility of using this plant to prevent or treat periodontitis has not been reported previously. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of SM oil on experimental periodontitis in rats by using micro-CT and microbiota analysis. The distance between cementoenamel junction (CEJ) and alveolar bone crest (ABC) on the sagittal micro-CT slide showed that total bone loss (TBL) was significantly lower in CEJ-ABC distances between SM oil and SM oil-free groups on Day 14. Histology data also showed less alveolar bone resorption, a result consistent result with micro-CT imaging. The microbiota analyzed at phylum and class levels were compared between the SM oil and SM oil-free groups on Day 7 and Day 14. At the phylum level, Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, and Actinobacteria were the dominant bacterium. Firmicutes in box plot analysis was significantly less in the SM oil group than in the SM oil-free group on Day 7. At the class level, Bacteroidia, Gammaproteobacteria, Bacilli, Clostridia, and Erysipelotrichia were the dominant bacteria. The bacteria composition proportion of Bacilli, Clostridiay, and Erysipelotrichia could be seen in the SM oil group significantly less than in t SM oil-free group on Day 7. Overall, the present results show that topical application of SM oil can reduce bone resorption and change bacteria composition in the ligature-induced periodontitis model. According to these results, it is reasonable to suggest SM oil as a potential material for preventing oral disease.

This work deals with the evaluation of nutritional and medicinal potential of a defatted kernel of Sapindus mukorossis seed. Defatted sapindus seed kernel is a rich source of proteins (33.4 ± 2.12%), which show balanced amino acid composition for the requirement of adults as per the World Health Organization. Protein isolate possesses 29 kDa molecular weight peptide, which shows trypsin inhibitor activity. It also showed around 31.2% reduction in amylase activity while aqueous Ethanol and ethanol extracts showed 55% and 72.83%, respectively. Aqueous ethanol and ethanol extracts were found to contain polyphenols and saponins. Polyphenol content in aqueous ethanol and ethanol extract was 4.50 ± 0.15 mg/g and 5.7 ± 0.34 mg/g ferulic acid equivalent, respectively, while 0.72 ± 0.68% and 1.2 ± 0.23% Oleonolic acid equivalent saponins, respectively. Both these extracts showed potent antioxidant activity, and the rate of DPPH scavenging activity was higher than the ferulic acid standard. The deffated seed also contains dietary fibers in which 3.8 ± 0.01% are soluble, and 2.2 ± 0.03% are insoluble fibers.

Elimination of basic blue 9 (BB-9), a cationic textile dye, by electrocoagulation coupled with biosorption exploiting pelletized natural dead leaves (PNDL) of Sapindus mukorossi, an economic alternative biosorbent, was investigated. The experimental runs were conducted in a laboratory-scale hybrid reactor loaded with Al electrodes, aeration spargers and PNDL packed twin suspended buckets. The pelletized adsorbents offer key advantages of good mechanical stability, lesser clogging risk, and easy disengagement as compared to powdered adsorbents. The parameters of current density, pH, PNDL dose, and initial dye concentration were studied for the decolorization and COD removal efficiency. The experimental results revealed that up to 99.9% decolorization and 90.01% COD removal efficiency achieved after 8 min at optimum condition of current density (j)=20.27 mA/cm2, pH = 9, PNDL dose = 6 g/L, and initial dye concentration = 50 mg/L. The BB-9 elimination followed the first-order kinetics with K1=0.318 min-1 and R2=0.997. The results revealed the potential of PNDL as a feasible biosorbent with the effective performance of the coupled process.

Interest in finding plant-based herbicides to supplement synthesized herbicides is increasing. Although the extract of Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn has been reported to have herbicidal activity, little is known about phytotoxic substances and their efficacy of weed control in the field. To identify phytotoxic substances, the bioassay-guided fractionation by column chromatography and high-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) was carried out. The phytotoxic activity assay, performed by the agar medium method, showed that the 70% ethanol fraction exhibited strong root growth inhibition against Trifolium pratense with an 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) value of 35.13 mg/L. An active compound was isolated from the 70% ethanol fraction and identified as hederagenin 3-o-ß-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-l-arabinopyranoside (Compound A). Compound A had an IC50 value of 16.64 mg/L. Finally, a new formulation was prepared based on the 70% ethanol fraction, which exhibited good efficacy against broadleaf weeds in a carrot field. The fresh weight control efficacy was 78.7% by 45 days after treatment at the dose of 1500 g a. i./ha. Hence, the extract of S. mukorossi pulp could be a promising supplement to the synthesized herbicides. Furthermore, compound A from S. mukorossi may be responsible for its phytotoxic activity.

In this work, silver nanoparticles have been synthesized with an average particle size of 35 nm, within 90s, using microwave and Sapindus mukorossi extract as a stabilizing agent. The AgNps were surface immobilized on eggshells (ES) to obtain Ag@ES, which was characterized by UV-Vis, UV-DRS, FT-IR, ICP-OES, TGA-DSC, SEM-EDX, XRD and XPS. Its applicability as an environmental catalyst was evaluated by Cr (VI) adsorption, photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange, eriochrome black-T, methylene blue, rhodamine-B as model dyes and microbial inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. The results revealed that Ag@ES exhibited maximum adsorption capacity of 93 mg/g for Cr (VI) ion and degradation efficiency of ~90-98% for removing anionic and cationic dyes. Further, it showed a minimum inhibitory concentration of 15.6, 7.8 and 31.2 µg/mL for S. aureus, E. coli and C. albicans respectively. Moreover, the Ag@ES being a heterogeneous catalyst can be regenerated and reused without significant loss in its efficiency.

Sapindus mukorossi seed oil is commonly used as a source for biodiesel fuel. Its phytochemical composition is similar to the extracted oil from Sapindus trifoliatus seeds, which exhibit beneficial effects for skin wound healing. Since S. mukorossi seed shows no cyanogenic property, it could be a potential candidate for the treatment of skin wounds. Thus, we evaluated the effectiveness of S. mukorossi seed oil in the treatment of skin wounds. We characterized and quantified the fatty acids and unsaponifiable fractions (including ß-sitosterol and δ-tocopherol) contained in S. mukorossi seed-extracted oil by GC-MS and HPLC, respectively. Cell proliferation and migratory ability were evaluated by cell viability and scratch experiments using CCD-966SK cells treated with S. mukorossi oil. The anti-inflammatory effects of the oil were evaluated by measuring the nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide-treated RAW 264.7 cells. Antimicrobial activity tests were performed with Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans using a modified Japanese Industrial Standard procedure. Uniform artificial wounds were created on the dorsum of rats. The wounds were treated with a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/hyaluronic acid (HA)/sodium alginate (SA) hydrogel for releasing the S. mukorossi seed oil. The wound sizes were measured photographically for 12 days and were compared to wounds covered with analogous membranes containing a saline solution. Our results showed that the S. mukorossi seed oil used in this study contains abundant monounsaturated fatty acids, ß-sitosterol, and δ-tocopherol. In the in vitro tests, S. mukorossi seed oil prompted cell proliferation and migration capability. Additionally, the oil had significant anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial activities. In the in vivo animal experiments, S. mukorossi seed oil-treated wounds revealed acceleration of sequential skin wound healing events after two days of healing. The size of oil-treated wound decreased to half the size of the untreated control after eight days of healing. The results suggest that S. mukorossi seed oil could be a potential source for promoting skin wound healing.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary soapnut (Sapindus mukorossi) shell powder (SSP), a cheap source of saponins, on growth performance, immunity, serum biochemistry and gut health of broiler chickens. The experimental design was 4×2, employing four saponin levels (0, 100, 150 and 200 mg/kg diet), each provided for two time durations (0-42 day and 21-42 day) resulting into eight dietary treatments. Results revealed no significant effect of dietary saponins on body weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio of birds. The abdominal fat percentage, heterophil to lymphocyte ratio, serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels, faecal total plate count, coliform count and E. coli count decreased (p < .05) progressively with increasing saponin levels and lower values were observed at 150 mg and 200 mg saponin levels. Significant improvement of cell-mediated and humoral immune response was observed in birds fed 150 mg and 200 mg saponin compared to control. The serum glucose concentration was significantly (p < .05) higher in control group compared to other groups. No significant effects of dietary saponin were observed on carcass characteristics, faecal Lactobacillus count, intestinal histomorphometry and cost economics of broiler chicken production. Thus, dietary saponins at 150 mg/kg diet as SSP for three weeks (21-42 days) was optimum for better immunity and welfare of birds without adverse effects on the growth performance.

BACKGROUND: Saponins are the main constituents of genus Sapindus and have the therapeutic potential for inflammatory disorders. In this study the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic potential of the stem bark of soap nut (Sapindus mukorossi) methanol extract and its derived fractions has been investigated. METHODS: Powder of stem bark of the S. mukorossi was extracted with methanol (SMM) and fractionated in order of n-hexane (SMH), chloroform (SMC), ethyl acetate (SME), n-butanol (SMB) and the remaining as aqueous fraction (SMA). Quantitative estimation for the total phenolic and total flavonoid content was carried out in all the extract/fractions. Further, various in vitro antioxidant assays were also performed. Anti-inflammatory (Carrageenan induced paw edema), analgesic (hot plate latency test) and antipyretic (rectal temperature) were determined in Sprague-Dawley rat. RESULTS: Quantitative estimation of total phenolic contents in extract/fractions varied between 252.3 ± 2.41 mg of GAE/g - 594.16 ± 4.3 mg of GAE/g while the total flavonoids estimated were from 11.02 ± 1.3 mg of RUE/g to 96.9 ± 3.2 mg of RUE/g. Standard antioxidant assays such as scavenging of DPPH, hydroxyl radical, nitric oxide, phosphomolybdenum assay, reducing power, inhibition of ß-carotene bleaching, iron chelation activity and inhibition of heat induced protein denaturation indicated the antioxidant potential of the extract/fractions. Carrageenan induced paw edema of rat was effectively inhibited by SMA at 300 mg/kg administration to rat (84.19 ± 1.48%) after 3 h and analgesia (latency time) in hot plate test (55.78 ± 1.22%) after 120 min. SMA at 300 mg/kg distinctly decreased the rectal temperature in brewer's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) induced pyrexia in rat. CONCLUSION: The resulted obtained in this study suggested the therapeutic importance of stem bark of S. mukorossi in inflammatory related disorders.

Phosphate and colloidal gas aphrons (CGAs) generated from saponin extracted from Sapindus mukorossi fruit, were evaluated for washing low levels of arsenic from an iron rich soil. Phosphate is one of the most commonly dispersed chemicals that increases arsenic mobility in soil due to their structural similarities, making it an important factor in arsenic removal process. Column washing experiments were performed with CGAs in down flow and up flow modes on soil of pH 5 and 6. Soapnut CGAs, when paired with phosphate removed up to 95 % arsenic while soapnut CGAs alone could only remove up to 70 % arsenic. The presence of phosphate improved efficiency of soapnut solution by up to 35 %. SEM image of washed soil revealed minor corrosion of soil surface while using phosphate with soapnut. Therefore, the addition of phosphates would have positive impact on soil washing using soapnut saponin.

Somatic embryogenic system was developed in Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn. using rachis as explants from a mature tree. Explants showed callus initiation on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with TDZ (1-Phenyl-3-(1, 2, 3-thiadiazol-5-yl) urea), zeatin or 6-benzylaminopurine. Induction of somatic embryogenesis was achieved on both MS basal medium and MS medium supplemented with 8.88 µM 6-benzylaminopurine. Hundred percent embryogenesis was observed on MS medium supplemented with 8.88 µM 6-benzylaminopurine with maximum intensity of embryogenesis (51.92 ± 0.40 a). Maximum maturation of somatic embryos (92.86 ± 0.34 a) was observed on induction medium supplemented with 0.0378 µM abscisic and treated for 21 days. Germination of somatic embryos was maximum (77.33 ± 0.58 a) on MS medium supplemented with 8.88 µM 6-benzylaminopurine. In vitro raised plantlets were hardened, acclimatized and transferred to the field. Survival frequency of plantlets was 80 % in field conditions. The genetic fidelity of in vitro regenerated plants was also evaluated and compared with mother plant using random amplified polymorphic DNA and inter simple sequence repeat. Both markers showed similarity in molecular profile of mother plant and in vitro regenerated plants.

OBJECTIVES: Study the effects of alcohol extract of Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn (AESM) on the metabolism of blood fat, morphology of fenestrated liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSEC), and the ultrastructure of liver cells of the rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). METHODS: Divide SD rats into control group, model group, simvastatin (7.2 mg/kg) group, and S.mukorossi Gaertn group with high dosage (0.5 g/kg), moderate dosage (0.1 g/kg), and low dosage (0.05 g/kg). After feeding with fat-rich nutrients for 3 weeks and establishing the model of hepatic adipose, conduct intragastric administration and provide the rats with fat-rich nutrients at the same time. At the 43rd day, take blood sample and measure aminotransferase and different indexes of blood fat; take hepatic tissue for pathological section, and observe the hepatic morphological patterns under light microscope; obtain and fix the hepatic tissue after injecting perfusate into the body, and observe the changes of fenestrated LSEC under scanning electron microscope; observe the ultrastructure of liver cells under transmission electron microscope. RESULTS: High-dosage alcohol extracts of S.mukorossi Gaertn can alleviate the AST, ALT, TC, TG, LDL, γ-GT, and ALP level, as well as raise the HDL and APN level in the serum of NAFLD-rat model. In addition, through the observation from light microscope and electron microscopes, the morphology of the hepatic tissue and liver cells as well as the recovery of the fenestrated LSEC in the treatment group has become normal. CONCLUSIONS: Alcohol extracts of S.mukorossi Gaertn can regulate the level of blood fat and improve the pathological changes of the hepatic tissues in NAFLD-rat model, which demonstrates the effects of down-regulating fat level and protecting liver.

Objective: To evaluate effectiveness of Fotoenticine (FTC)-mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) and Sapindus mukorossi (SM) as adjunct to mechanical debridement (MD) on peri-implant clinical parameters and levels of proinflammatory cytokines among diabetics. Background: FTC has exhibited robust photodynamic impact against Streptococcus mutans (i.e., an established caries-associated bacterium); however, its efficacy against periodontal pathogens is not known. Methods: One hundred six diabetics with peri-implantitis were randomly categorized into three groups: Group I consisted of 37 participants who were treated with only MD; group II comprised 35 participants who were treated with FTC-mediated PDT, in addition to MD; and group III consisted of 34 participants who were treated with SM, in addition to MD. Peri-implant clinical parameters [plaque index (PI), bleeding on probing (BOP), and probing depth (PD)] and radiographic outcomes [crestal bone loss (CBL)] (PI, BOP, and PD), together with peri-implant sulcular fluid (PISF) interleukin (IL)-1ß and IL-6 levels were measured at baseline and 6-month follow-up. Results: In group I (n = 37; 24 males +13 females), group II (n = 35; 20 males +15 females), and group III (n = 34; 17 males +17 females), the mean age of participants was 54.3 ± 4.6, 52.0 ± 5.5, and 50.8 ± 4.5 years, respectively. Significant improvement was observed in the scores of peri-implant PI (p = 0.01), BOP (p = 0.01), and PD (p = 0.02) at the 6-month follow-up among all study groups. Significant improvement in peri-implant CBL among group I subjects at 6-month follow-up compared to baseline (p < 0.05) was observed. PISF levels of IL-1ß and IL-6 improved at 6 months. Conclusions: As an adjunct to conventional MD, FTC-mediated PDT and SM might be used as potential therapeutic modalities among diabetics with peri-implantitis.

This study aims to determine the efficient concentration of Sapindus mukorossi that can be used as a denture cleanser. 60 heat cure denture base resin specimens of dimensions 10*10*2 mm were fabricated. Among these, 30 were fabricated by compression moulding technique and the remaining 30 by an injection moulding technique. The samples inoculated with Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans were subjected to denture cleansing protocols using a medicinal herbal extract from the Sapindus mukorossi, at various concentrations [15%, 20%, and 25%]. The colony-forming unit [CFU] values were evaluated using a microprocessor colony counter. The statistical analysis was performed. The intragroup comparison showed a statistically significant difference between all groups except the compression moulded samples inoculated with Streptococcus mutans. The intergroup comparison revealed no statistically significant differences between the compared groups. The reduction in CFU values is evident in the effective anti-microbial activity of Sapindus mukorossi. A concentration of 25% Sapindus mukorossi solution showed the greatest efficiency. The maximum anti-microbial activity was observed against Candida albicans in a 25% concentration of Sapindus mukorossi. Among all, injection moulded samples showed better results.

Background The Sapindus mukorossi (SM) extract has been reported to possess antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant characteristics. However, there is limited research demonstrating the effectiveness of SM in dissolving dental pulp tissue. Methods In an in vitro investigation, pulp tissue samples were extracted from human teeth, collectively weighing 144 mg. These samples were divided equally and activated by manual digital agitation (MDA) or ultrasonic (US) irrigation for three 30-second cycles with a resting period of 45 seconds between each activation. The samples in each group were sub-categorized into a set of three groups based on the treatment received as normal saline (NS), 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (Hypo), or Sapindus mukorossi (SM). Statistical tests, including the student t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), were employed to compare the mean weight differences among the groups, with a significance level set at p ≤ 0.05 for all comparisons. Results The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and independent t-test revealed significant intergroup differences (p<0.05). Turkey's post hoc analysis indicated significant distinctions, particularly when comparing Hypo with the other two irrigants, namely Hypo-NS (p<0.05) and Hypo-SM (p<0.05) when the MDA method was employed. Considering only the method adopted, the US technique was significantly superior (p=0.04) to the MDA. Conclusion Sapindus mukorossi (SM) demonstrated efficacy in dissolving pulp tissue but was not as effective as sodium hypochlorite (Hypo) which is the standard agent for root canal irrigation. SM to be used as an alternative to Hypo on clinical grounds needs further validation from research.

Introduction: Microorganisms as a component of scalp ecosystem play a vital role in human scalp health. Soapberry pericarp is employed in improving scalp health, and its content of active ingredients could be enhanced resulted in fermentation. This study aims to investigate the effect of the fermentation filtrate from soapberry pericarp on the diversity of scalp microorganisms. Methods: The components in fermentation filtrate from soapberry pericarp were analyzed by HPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS, and 16S and ITS sequences of 198 samples from three different used stages (Day 0, Day 7, Day 28) were sequenced using the Illumina Novaseq platform. Microbial diversity was assessed using alpha diversity (Chao1 and Shannon indexes) and beta diversity (weighted unifrac and unweighted unifrac). Principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) effect size analysis (LEfSe) were used to visualize microbial variation among different stages. Results: There were 22 components were identified in the fermentation filtrate from soapberry pericarp by HPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS. The alpha-diversity and beta-diversity analyses showed that scalp microbial diversity and composition were influenced by the fermentation filtrate of soapberry pericarp. Based on functional analysis, this study found an enrichment of healthy scalp-related bacterial pathways, such as amino acid, nucleoside, and nucleotide biosynthesis, while a decrease in fungal pathogenesis pathways, specifically saprotroph and symbiotroph pathways, was observed. Discussion: The study described about the complex community dynamics of human scalp microorganisms during the stages of using the fermentation filtrate from soapberry pericarp. This result will help rationally utilize the fermentation filtrate from soapberry pericarp to keep or improve human scalp health.

Rational fertilization is the main measure to improve crop yield, but there are differences in the optimal effects of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) rationing exhibited by the same crop species in different regions and soil conditions. In order to determine the optimum fertilization ratio for high yield of Sapindus mukorossi in western Fujian to provide scientific basis. We carried out the experimental design with different ratios of N, P and K to investigate the effects of fertilization on the yield. and leaf physiology of Sapindus mukorossiand soil properties. Results showed that the yield of Sapindus mukorossi reached the highest value (1464.58 kg ha-1) at N2P2K2 treatment, which increased to 1056.25 kg ha-1 compared with the control. There were significant differences in the responses of soil properties and leaf physiological factors to fertilization treatments. Factor analysis showed that the integrated scores of soil factors and leaf physiological characteristic factors of Sapindus mukorossi under N2P2K2 fertilization treatment were the highest, which effectively improved the soil fertility and leaf physiological traits. The yield of Sapindus mukorossi showed a highly significant linear positive correlation with the integrated scores (r=0.70, p<0.01). Passage analysis showed that soil available nitrogen content, organic carbon content, and leaf area index were the key main factors to affect the yield. RDA showed that soil organic carbon and available phosphorus were the most important factors to affect leaf physiological traits. We recommend that the optimum fertilization ratio of Sapindus mukorossi was 0.96Kg N, 0.80Kg P and 0.64Kg K per plant. Reasonable fertilization can improve soil fertility and leaf physiological traits, while excessive fertilization has negative effects on soil fertility, leaf physiology and yield. This study provides theoretical support for scientific cultivation of woody oil seed species.
