RESUMO

With the onset of 5G technology, the number of users is increasing drastically. These increased numbers of users demand better service on the network. This study examines the millimeter wave bands working frequencies. Working in the millimeter wave band has the disadvantage of interference. This study aims to analyze the impact of different interference conditions on unmanned aerial vehicle use scenarios, such as open-air gatherings and indoor-outdoor sports stadiums. Performance analysis was carried out in terms of received power and path loss readings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Fossil evidence suggests that extant North American lizard genera (north of Mexico) evolved during the Miocene. Although fossils of the clade Phrynosomatidae (spiny lizards and sand lizards) have been reported, there have been no previously described fossils of the fringe-toed sand lizards (Uma). In the extant biota, Uma inhabit arid deserts, and members of the western clade of Uma are restricted to sand dunes or other habitats containing fine-grained sand. RESULTS: I describe the first known fossil of Uma and refer the fossil to the total clade of Uma with an apomorphy-based diagnosis. The fossil is a partial premaxilla that was found in the Miocene strata of the Dove Spring Formation of southern California, dating to 8.77 Ma. The paleoenvironment of the Dove Spring Formation was semiarid and contained ephemeral streams that facilitated deposition, and there is no evidence of sand dune deposits in the strata containing the locality from which the Uma fossil was found. Divergence time analyses of a concatenated molecular dataset with four fossil calibrations support a Neogene origin of the total clade of Uma and of the crown clade of Uma. Those analyses also estimated a Neogene divergence between Uma scoparia and the Uma notata complex. Multispecies coalescent analyses with one fossil calibration inferred a Paleogene origin for the total clade of Uma and a Pliocene or Pleistocene divergence between Uma scoparia and the Uma notata complex. The fossil and the total and crown clades of Uma precede the evolution of modern desert ecosystems in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico by millions of years. CONCLUSIONS: The total clade and the crown clade of Uma were not restricted to arid deserts throughout their evolutionary histories. I demonstrate that an apomorphy-based diagnosis can be used to identify fossils of isolated skeletal elements for at least one clade of phrynosomatid lizard, and suggest exercising caution when using environmental tolerances of extant taxa to hypothesize paleoecological reconstructions.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The emergence of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers with lidocaine has transformed the minimally invasive treatment of wrinkles, lines and folds of the face. Patients can be treated quickly, painlessly and without the need for large doses of lidocaine. Therefore, it is important to scientifically evaluate the merits of lidocaine-containing products over those without. METHODS: The two products, with (UJU) and without lidocaine (UJ), were randomly injected into nasolabial folds of 75 healthy volunteers with varying skin types in a split face study, age ranging 26-60 years. Only 73 subjects completed the follow-up. There were 68 females and 5 males with medium-to-deep nasolabial folds. All subjects were randomly injected with the two products on one or the other side of the face. Patients were followed up for 9 months. RESULTS: Both products achieved significant improvement in the wrinkle severity score. Overall results were slightly better with UJU due to ease of injection, lack of pain and avoidance of topical or parenteral anaesthetic. In all other respects, differences in clinical data were not statistically significant. UJU® was preferred by patients and injectors due to less pain during and after injection as compared to UJ® (P < 0.0001). The overall rate of early and late complications with the two products was similar. Duration of maintenance of aesthetic effect between products also showed similarity. Optimum aesthetic effect was maintained in most cases for over 9 months with both products but patients in the 30-50-year age group did better. The patient acceptability rate was much higher with UJU. CONCLUSION: Clinical data from this study suggest that performance and outcomes of treatment of medium-to-deep nasolabial folds with UJ and UJU are quite similar. However, treatment with UJU offers enhanced patient comfort and is preferred by patients and injectors. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lipedema is a chronic disease marked by symmetric enlargement of painful nodular and fibrotic adipose tissue, predominantly affecting the limbs. Since there is no specific test or biomarker for this condition, years often pass before the diagnosis of lipedema is established for the first time, thereby causing psychosocial distress, including depression, eating disorders, and social isolation. Over the last few years several advanced Doppler-based technologies have been developed to visualize slow flow blood vessels and superficial microvascular architecture undetectable by traditional color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the superficial microvascular anatomy in lipedema patients compared to healthy controls and investigate the clinical significance of the Ultra Micro Angiography (UMA) technology in the diagnosis of lipedema. This new technique may contribute to reduce the diagnostic delay and, eventually, establish and guide treatment strategies toward a better therapeutic outcome in lipedema patients. METHODS: 25 patients with lipedema and ten healthy controls with no history of lipedema were included in this study. All ultrasound examinations were performed on a novel high-performance ultrasound system (Resona R9/Mindray) using CDFI and the UMA technique. RESULTS: In all of the patients, Ultra Micro Angiography achieved the excellent visualization of microvascular structures, revealing that most lipedema patients showed grade 3 (n = 13) or grade 2 (n = 8) flow. UMA was superior to CDFI for depicting the microvascular structures. CONCLUSIONS: Here we show that UMA imaging characterizes the subcutaneous microvasculature with an unprecedented accuracy. The method has the advantage of being sensitive to small, slow-flowing vessels. This allows for the assessment of the course of vessels and vascular pathologies in great detail. Thus, UMA as a non-invasive diagnostic method can improve diagnostic accuracy in lipedema.

RESUMO

A model is developed to establish the relationship between the critical gyration radius k of the primary component and the mass ratio (q) by considering the different dimensionless gyration radii of main-sequence stars with varying masses. The next step involves obtaining the low mass ratio limit ( q min = 0.038 ∼ 0.041 for overcontact degree f = 0 ~ 1) of W UMa-type contact binaries. Furthermore, the radial density distributions are estimated within the range of 0.3 M ⊙ ∼ 4.0 M ⊙ , based on the mass-radius relationship of main-sequence stars. Subsequently, the physical meaning of the minimum k value is proposed, which leads to an explanation for the cause of the minimum mass ratio. Finally, a stability criterion is proposed, which is based on both the mass ratio (q) and the total mass of the two components ( M tot ).

RESUMO

We present the physical and orbital parameters of four short-period eclipsing W UMa systems: [Formula: see text] (referred to as S1), [Formula: see text] (referred to as S2), [Formula: see text] (referred to as S3), and [Formula: see text] (referred to as S4). The absolute parameters and evolutionary status of these systems are determined, and new times of minima are calculated. Additionally, we present the 3D fill-out configuration for each system. The four Systems exhibit moderate contact W UMa binary with a fill-out factor of 49%, 38%, 28%, and 51%, respectively. Comparing the systems' periods, we observed a proportional relationship, where shorter periods correspond to lower fill-out factors, and longer periods were associated with higher fill-out factors. Based on the derived surface temperatures and mass ratios of the components, all systems are classified as A-type W UMa binaries. The obtained parameters in addition to a list of previously published data are then utilized to derive an updated Mass-Luminosity relation (M-L) for both A and W-type eclipsing W UMa systems. A comparison with previously published relations reveals that the majority of the EW systems lie between 0.2 and 2 Msun on the M-L diagram. Moreover, we discuss the dynamical evolutionary aspects and evolutionary status of the four components, along with their positions on the Zero Age Main Sequence (ZAMS) and Terminal Age Main Sequence (TAMS).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The continuous development of ultrasound techniques increasingly enables better description and visualization of unclear lesions. New ultrasound systems must be evaluated with regard to all these diagnostic possibilities. METHODS: A multifrequency C1-7 convex probe (SC7-1M) with the new high-end system Resona A20 Series was used. Modern technologies, including HiFR CEUS, SR CEUS and multimodal tissue imaging with shear wave elastography (SWE), fat evaluation and viscosity measurements (M-Ref) were applied. RESULTS: Of n = 70 (mean value 48,3 years±20,3 years, range 18-84 years) cases examined, a definitive diagnosis could be made in n = 67 cases, confirmed by reference imaging and/or follow-up. Of these, n = 22 cases were malignant changes (HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma) n = 9, CCC (cholangiocellular carcinoma) n = 3, metastases of colorectal carcinomas or recurrences of HCC n = 10). In all 12 cases of HCC or CCC, the elastography measurements using the shear wave technique (with values >2 m/s to 3.7 m/s) showed mean values of 2.3±0.31 m/s and a degree of fibrosis of F2 to F4. In n = 14 cases, changes in the fat measurement (range 0.51 to 0.72 dB/cm/MHz, mean values 0.58±0.12 dB/cm/MHz) in the sense of proportional fatty changes in the liver were detected. In the 4 cases of localized fat distribution disorders, the values were >0.7 dB/cm/MHz in the sense of significant fatty deposits in the remaining liver tissue. Relevant changes in the viscosity measurements with values >1.8 kPa were found in n = 31 cases, in n = 5 cases of cystic lesions with partially sclerosing cholangitis, in n = 13 cases of malignant lesions and in n = 9 cases post-interventionally, but also in n = 4 cases of benign foci with additional systemic inflammation. CONCLUSIONS: The results are promising and show a new quality of ultrasound-based liver diagnostics. However, there is a need for further investigations with regard to the individual aspects, preferably on a multi-center basis.

RESUMO

Goal of the study was the assessment of AI-assisted diagnosis of solid thyroid foci with multimodal modern ultrasound imaging. 50 patients (26-81 years, 54.7±13.1 years) were included in the study. Multimodal ultrasound imaging by means of B-mode with linear probe (4-12 MHz) with option of automated documentation of findings by means of AI, with supplementary Ultra MicroAngiography (UMA) was used. Macrovascularisation was assessed by dynamic contrast ultrasonography (CEUS) with parametric evaluation and perfusion analysis, and microvascularization was assessed by combined strain and shear wave elastography on a novel high-performance ultrasound system (Resona R9/Mindray) by an experienced examiner with independent reading. The evaluation was performed according to TI-RADS III-V.The volume of the thyroid lobes on both sides averaged 39 ml±5 ml (27 to 69 ml). The 13 cases of histologically confirmed thyroid carcinomas (8 papillary, 2 medullary, 2 microfollicular, 1 anaplastic CA) with a mean size of 15 mm±6 mm (9-21 mm) were correctly evaluated by TI-RADS V on the basis of irregular shape, induration > 2.5 m/s or > 30kPA and striking wash-out kinetics. Tumor lymph nodes could only be correctly detected preoperatively in one case of medullary carcinoma according to the surgical findings, based on irregular vascularization with UMA in roundish shape with cortex > 4 mm, transverse diameter up to 11 mm. In 25 cases of inhomogeneous nodular goiter an evaluation with TI-RADS III was performed in 31 cases, in 4 cases with incomplete marginal contour, partial marginal vascularization with UMA and partial wash out with indurations up to 2.5 m/s 30 kPA an evaluation with TI-RADS IV and surgical excision for nodular goiter. In 12 cases regressive nodular changes without relevant malignancy criteria resulted in nodular goiter, with focal changes up to 1.5 cm in diameter, classified as requiring control with TI-RADS III. There were no relevant changes in findings in the controls after 6 months. From the AI tool, the 20/25 goiter nodes were assessed as TI-RADS III, 7/12 adenomas, 5 goiter nodes, and 5 adenomas as TI-RADS IV, 5/13 carcinomas as TI-RADS IV, and 8/13 carcinomas as TI-RADS V.Multimodal ultrasound diagnostics supported by AI has a high diagnostic potential for the evaluation of solid thyroid lesions and standardizes the reporting with digital representative image documentation. CEUS perfusion and modern elastography techniques allow targeted follow-up of TI-RADS III findings.

RESUMO

Introduction: The rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance among various bacterial pathogens has been one of the major concerns of health organizations across the world. In this context, for the development of novel inhibitors against antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens, UDP-N-Acetylmuramoyl-L-Alanine-D-Glutamate Ligase (MurD) enzyme represents one of the most apposite targets. Body: The present review focuses on updated advancements on MurD-targeted inhibitors in recent years along with genetic regulation, structural and functional characteristics of the MurD enzyme from various bacterial pathogens. A concise account of various crystal structures of MurD enzyme, submitted into Protein Data Bank is also discussed. Discussion: MurD, an ATP dependent cytoplasmic enzyme is an important target for drug discovery. The genetic organization of MurD enzyme is well elucidated and many crystal structures of MurD enzyme are submitted into Protein Data bank. Various inhibitors against MurD enzyme have been developed so far with an increase in the use of in-silico methods in the recent past. But cell permeability barriers and conformational changes of MurD enzyme during catalytic reaction need to be addressed for effective drug development. So, a combination of in-silico methods along with experimental work is proposed to counter the catalytic machinery of MurD enzyme.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study is focused on testing experimental rapid prototyping materials for occlusal splints made from Urethandimethacrylate (UDMA) and Urethanmethacrylate (UMA). METHODS: Materials were mixed from UDMA and UMA in ratios of 1.0:0.0, 0.75:0.25, 0.5:0.5, 0.25:0.75 and 0.0:1.0. Specimens were printed using digital light processing (DLP). After post-processing, the specimens underwent testing on flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, hardness, wear behavior, surface roughness, gloss and color stability. All tests were performed after 24 h (baseline) and 10 days of water storage (aging). Splints underwent cyclic pull-off and insertion testing, which was alongside simulated using finite element analysis. RESULTS: The mechanical properties were significantly influenced by changes in the UDMA:UMA ratio. Statistical analysis revealed that increased amounts of UMA correlated with a decrease in flexural strength (92.0 to 30.7 MPa), modulus of elasticity (2.4 to 0.6 GPa), hardness (155.1 to 102.0 N/mm2) and wear resistance (-1394.9 to -1742.1 µm). Materials with higher amounts of UMA were also more likely to be influenced by water storage. Specimens with 75% and 100% UMA content were partly not analyzable due to soft consistency. Optical properties showed only minor influence from UMA content and aging. Differences in surface roughness (3.9 to 2.4 µm) and color stability were insignificant. Gloss was partly influenced by the UDMA:UMA ratio and water storage. Mean survival rates for cyclic pull-off and insertion testing ranged from 2537 to 23,857 cycles. A correlation between the amount of UMA and survival rates was observed. SIGNIFICANCE: The addition of up to 25% UMA showed promising results, complying with clinical standards and delivering acceptable results in the cyclic pull-off and insertion test. Further investigation on increments between 0 and 25% UMA could help to find an optimum.

RESUMO

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) has been recognized as a severe complication of diabetes mellitus and a dominant pathogeny of end-stage kidney disease, which causes serious health problems and great financial burden to human society worldwide. Conventional strategies, such as renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system blockade, blood glucose level control, and bodyweight reduction, may not achieve satisfactory outcomes in many clinical practices for DN management. Notably, due to the multi-target function, Chinese medicine possesses promising clinical benefits as primary or alternative therapies for DN treatment. Increasing studies have emphasized identifying bioactive compounds and molecular mechanisms of reno-protective effects of Chinese medicines. Signaling pathways involved in glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, and podocyte protection have been identified as crucial mechanisms of action. Herein, we summarize the clinical efficacies of Chinese medicines and their bioactive components in treating and managing DN after reviewing the results demonstrated in clinical trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, with a thorough discussion on the relative underlying mechanisms and molecular targets reported in animal and cellular experiments. We aim to provide comprehensive insights into the protective effects of Chinese medicines against DN.

RESUMO

A B S T R A C T Tuberculosis (TB) represents an important cause of morbidity and one of the top ten causes of mortality in the world, associated with economic problems, vulnerability marginalization, stigma and discrimination. From a mixed study that triangulates quantitative data and qualitative information, the main results of the characterization of the social vulnerability of people with TB in the municipality of Cali - Colombia are presented, based on the AVEO model that analyzes the social vulnerability related to assets and liabilities that people possess and the opportunities that the context offers. The results show assets, liabilities and opportunities related to TB treatment, articulated through demographic, biological, socioeconomic, psychosocial and habitat dimensions. It is concluded that there is a vicious circle between conditions of social vulnerability and tuberculosis, in which people with higher levels of social vulnerability are more affected by the disease in all dimensions of their existence, increasing or maintaining levels of vulnerability which that requires multisectoral interventions that go beyond health services.

Abstract The present study was carried out to determine incidence of overweight and obesity in Pakistani servicemen with reference to their area of duty, feeding habits and also to identify risk factors. Accordingly, 2,501 servicemen selected from all over Pakistan using multiple stage stratified sampling protocol. Nutrition assessment performed using body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio (WHR) and dietary assessment using food frequency questionnaire. Collected data was analyzed using the SPSS version 25. Regression was used to find risk factors of obesity and WHR. Results indicated that about 1/4th of servicemen were smokers. Approximately, 1/5th of them were overweight and about one quarter were eating fruits and vegetables for 3 days/ week and 4 days/week, respectively. Only 1/3rd of them were physically active for at least 40 minutes per day. Age and fruits intake were significantly predicting BMI with a direct relation and vegetable intake was negatively correlated to BMI of the servicemen. Age and rank were significant predictors of WHR while, physical activity was negatively correlated to WHR. It is concluded and suggested from our study that there is a need to modify eating patterns and habits as well as improving physical activity on daily basis for healthy and long life of the servicemen.

RESUMO

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of different adhesives on the shear bond strength (SBS) of brackets bonded to different ceramic materials. Material and Methods: Fifty disk-shaped specimens were produced from lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD) and monolithic zirconia (Cercon) materials. Each specimen was polished with a three-step diamond polishing system. The polished ceramic surfaces were conditioned with universal bonding resin (Assure Plus) without pre-treatment, except for two specimens. Central brackets were bonded onto different ceramic specimens with different adhesives as follows: group 1: conventional adhesive onto the lithium disilicate; group 2: one-step adhesive onto the lithium disilicate; group 3: conventional adhesive onto the monolithic zirconia; group 4: one-step adhesive onto the monolithic zirconia. After thermal cycling, the specimens were subjected to the SBS test. The adhesive remnant index (ARI) scores were also recorded to evaluate bond failure type. KruskalWallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: There were statistically significant differences among the SBS values (p˂0.05). The monolithic zirconia group with universal bonding resin and conventional orthodontic adhesive demonstrated the highest SBS value (6.34 MPa) and ARI scores. The lithium disilicate group showed the lowest SBS value (2.17 MPa) with the same protocol. No adhesive remained on the lithium disilicate specimens. Conclusion: One-step adhesive and universal bonding resin combination should not be considered as an alternative for lithium disilicate and monolithic zirconia restorations. Conventional adhesive and universal bonding resin application can be effective on non-pretreated ceramic surfaces during orthodontic bonding (AU)

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Congenital unilateral absence of a pulmonary artery (UAPA) is a rare anomaly. Although there are several reports regarding pregnancy in patients with unilateral absence of a pulmonary artery, there are no case reports describing anesthesia for Cesarean section in a patient with unilateral absence of a pulmonary artery. CASE REPORT: We present a patient with unilateral absence of a pulmonary artery who underwent Cesarean sections twice at the ages of 24 and 26 years under spinal anesthesia for surgery and epidural analgesia for postoperative pain relief. Both times, spinal anesthesia and epidural analgesia enabled successful anesthesia management without the development of either pulmonary hypertension or right heart failure. CONCLUSION: Spinal anesthesia combined with epidural analgesia is a useful anesthetic method for a Cesarean section in patients with unilateral absence of a pulmonary artery.

Abstract: This essay deals with thinking about a literary subjectivity and, with it, a clinical way conducive to understanding the concept of sublime-action, thus spelled due to the renewal of its use. It considers the work and, in a sense, the life of the writer Wilson Bueno, drawing from its intertwining analytical consequences that bring to the same plane of examination the notions of sublime-action and synthoma, the latter as conceived by Lacan. Deleuzian, Nietzschean, and Bergsonian concepts that should offer ethical and clinical perspectives of unexpected scope to analytical knowledge will also be employed.

RESUMO

I examined the foraging behavior during the breeding and non-breeding seasons, May and July 1986, of the fringe-toed lizard Uma inornata (Iguanidae). During the breeding season males differ from females in their diet and in their foraging time strategy, males exhibiting time minimization and females energy maximization. In May, plant associated foods were selectively eaten. Males concentrated on flowers, a readily available quick energy food, which reduced foraging time and increased time for reproductive activities. Time budgets indicate that males spend over twice as much time in the open and in movement in May than do females. Females at this time restrict their activities to the cover of perennial bushes, and feed primarily on plant foods (flowers and arthropods). Energy maximization appears to be maintained by both sexes in the non-breeding season when food resources diminished to one-half of those in the breeding season. The lizards were less selective in their July feeding habits, broadening their diets to include ground-dwelling arthropods and foliage. Predation by these lizards follows a wait-ambush mode of foraging.
