RESUMO

The review summarizes the data on the chemical composition and some features of biological activity of the European mistletoe Viscum album L. (Viscaceae Batsch). Among secondary metabolites, viscotoxins, lectins, carbohydrates, amino acids, flavonoids, triterpene acids, and nitrogenous compounds predominate in V. album. Mistletoe extracts and their indivdiual components exert various biological activities, including antitumor, immunomodulatory, and antidiabetic activities, and improve cognitive functions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To establish gender differences in aerobic and anaerobic productivity in practically healthy residents of the Zakarpattia region in the post-pubertal period of ontogenesis, depending on the somatotypological characteristics of the organism. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: A comparative analysis of physical health status of 456 individuals, was carried out, whit was assessed by indicators of aerobic and anaerobic productivity of the body, depending on the somatotype, which was determined by the Heath-Carter method, and depending on the component body composition which was determined using the impedance method. RESULTS: Results: The relative value Vo2 mах in females corresponds to "excellent", which guarantees a "safe health level" according to H.L. Apanasenko. At the same time, the level of aerobic productivity in males in terms of the relative value Vo2 mах is "average", which cannot guarantee a "safe health level". The anaerobic productivity of females is lower than in males in terms of the relative value of alactic power, lactic power, and the capacity of lactic energy supply processes by 55.6%, 54.7%, and 38.7%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The level of aerobic productivity, regardless of the area of residence, in females is higher than in males according to Ya.P. Pyarnat's criteria. In males the increase in the fat component has a negative effect on the aerobic and anaerobic energy supply of the body. On the contrary, the growth of the muscle component of body mass helps to increase the aerobic and anaerobic capacity of the body.

RESUMO

The Qinling-Daba Mountains area is the main producing areas of Gynostemma longipes for medicinal usage, and samples of wild whole plants in Pingli, Shaanxi Province and Qingchuan, Sichuan Province were collected. The ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS~E) was used to profile the chemical compositions and analyze the similarities and differences of G. longipes samples in these areas. Based on the accurate molecular weight and fragment information obtained from Q-TOF-MS~E, the structures of the main components were identified by combining with the mass spectra, chromatographic behaviors of reference standards and related literatures. The results showed that the components of wild G. longipes from different places among Qinling-Daba Mountains area were similar. Forty-five chemical components were identified in the whole plant of G. longipes from Pingli, Shaanxi Province, including 43 triterpenoid saponins and 2 flavonoids which contain all main peaks in its fingerprint. The main components are dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins, such asgypenoside ⅩLⅨ, gypenoside A and its malonylated product of glycosyl.

RESUMO

Organization of recreational activities in the children's camps is inseparable from the assessment of their effectiveness. AIM: The objective of the present study was to estimate the influence of the pastime of the children in a summer camp under the habitual climatic conditions and the resulting improvement of their health status including the body component composition and the functional state of the organism. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 44 schoolchildren at the age from 9 to12 years. The analysis of the effectiveness of recreational activities was carried out with the use of the method for the assessment of health improvement based at the children`s summer camps. Alterations in the component composition of the body were evaluated from the results of bioimpedansometry. RESULTS: The physical development of the majority of the schoolchildren involved in the study both in the beginning and the end of the camp period was fairly well balanced. During the period of resting in the camp (14 days), changes in the body weight were largely attributable to the alteration in the lean body mass whereas the fat component remained rather stable. The cardio-respiratory system did not show any unambiguous signs of positive dynamics. The physical conditions of the children estimated based on the hand dynamometry index showed a negative change. The comprehensive assessment of the degree of health improvement with the use of a scoring system made it possible to demonstrated that half of the schoolchildren spending time in the summer camp under the moderate climate conditions markedly improved their somatic health, functional and physical state whereas the remaining half enjoyed only a slight improvement. CONCLUSION: We suppose that the main causes preventing manifestations of the maximal positive effect of the pastime in the summer camp on the health status of the children included the short period of stay in the camp and the irrational use of the available complex of recreational activities, such as the sound nutrition regimen, adequate physical loading including locomotor activity, and psychological comfort). Bioimpedansometry which objectively reflects any changes in the body component composition is recommended for the application as one of the additional instruments for the objective analysis of the changes in the body component composition of the children and of the effects exerted by the recreational activities in the summer camp on their health status.

RESUMO

Essential oils and hydrosols were extracted from rosemary harvested in different seasons, and the chemical compositions of volatile components in the two fractions were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Enantiomers of some volatile components were also analyzed by enantioselective GC-MS. Classification of aroma components based on chemical groups revealed that essential oils contained high levels of monoterpene hydrocarbons but hydrosols did not. Furthermore, the enantiomeric ratios within some volatile components were different from each other; for example, only the (S)-form was observed for limonene and the (R)-form was dominant for verbenone. These indicate the importance of determining the enantiomer composition of volatile components for investigating the physiological and psychological effects on humans. Overall, enantiomeric ratios were determined by volatile components, with no difference between essential oils and hydrosols or between seasons.

RESUMO

Studies have reported inconsistent results for the relationship between body composition and bone mineral density (BMD) among women, especially those with a high rate of obesity. This study aims to examine the association between BMD and body composition among Qatari women. A cross-sectional study, using data from the Qatar Biobank (QBB), was conducted on 2,000 Qatari women aged 18 and over. Measurements were taken by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) for body composition [visceral fat and android fat (AF)], gynoid fat (GF), trunk fat, total fat mass (TFM), total lean mass (LM) and bone mineral density (BMD), including the lumber spine, neck, femur and total body. The participants were divided into groups of normal and low BMD, based on their T-score. Non-linear regression analysis using the restricted cubic spline method was performed according to the T-score of the total BMD for the fat mass variables. Women with a low BMD (T-score <-1) had significantly lower body composition indicators. LM was positively correlated with BMD at the spine (r = 0.29, p < 0.001), neck (r = 0.32, p < 0.001), and femur (r = 0.28, p < 0.001), as well as total BMD (r = 0.29, p < 0.001) and T-score (r = 0.31, p < 0.001), while the correlatio between TFM and BMD was negative and weak (r = -0.05, <0.017). Results of the non-linear regression indicated that components of fat distribution (TFM, AF, GF and trunk fat) were positively associated with total body T-score. In the adjusted non-liner regression, only a slight increase in T-score was recorded with an increase in FM. The association between FM and BMD was non-linear, suggesting that FM may not be a strong protector of bones among women with high rate of obesity.
