RESUMO

The photolithographic patterning of fine quantum dot (QD) films is of great significance for the construction of QD optoelectronic device arrays. However, the photolithography methods reported so far either introduce insulating photoresist or manipulate the surface ligands of QDs, each of which has negative effects on device performance. Here, we report a direct photolithography strategy without photoresist and without engineering the QD surface ligands. Through cross-linking of the surrounding semiconductor polymer, QDs are spatially confined to the network frame of the polymer to form high-quality patterns. More importantly, the wrapped polymer incidentally regulates the energy levels of the emitting layer, which is conducive to improving the hole injection capacity while weakening the electron injection level, to achieve balanced injection of carriers. The patterned QD light-emitting diodes (with a pixel size of 1.5 µm) achieve a high external quantum efficiency of 16.25% and a brightness of >1.4 × 105 cd/m2. This work paves the way for efficient high-resolution QD light-emitting devices.

RESUMO

Perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have emerged as promising candidates for lighting and display technologies owing to their high photoluminescence quantum efficiency and high carrier mobility. However, the performance of planar PeLEDs is limited by the out-coupling efficiency, predominantly governed by photonic losses at device interfaces. Most notably, the plasmonic loss at the metal electrode interfaces can account for up to 60% of the total loss. Here, we investigate the use of plasmonic nanostructures to improve the light out-coupling in PeLEDs. By integrating these nanostructures with PeLEDs, we have demonstrated an effectively reduced plasmonic loss and enhanced light out-coupling. As a result, the nanostructured PeLEDs exhibit an average 1.5-fold increase in external quantum efficiency and an ∼20-fold improvement in device lifetime. This finding offers a generic approach for enhancing light out-coupling, promising great potential to go beyond existing performance limitations.

RESUMO

In this in vivo study on hairless mice, we examined the effects of light-emitting diode (LED) treatment applied prior to ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation. We found that pre-treating with LED improved skin morphological and histopathological conditions compared to those only exposed to UVB irradiation. In our study, histological evaluation of collagen and elastic fibers after LED treatment prior to UVB irradiation showed that this pretreatment significantly enhanced the quality of fibers, which were otherwise poor in density and irregularly arranged due to UV exposure alone. This suggests that LED treatment promotes collagen and elastin production, leading to improved skin properties. Additionally, we observed an increase in Claudin-1 expression and a reduction in nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf-2) and heme-oxygenase 1 (HO-1) expression within the LED-treated skin tissues, suggesting that LED therapy may modulate key skin barrier proteins and oxidative stress markers. These results demonstrate that pretreatment with LED light can enhance the skin's resistance to UVB-induced damage by modulating gene regulation associated with skin protection. Further investigations are needed to explore the broader biological effects of LED therapy on other tissues such as blood vessels. This study underscores the potential of LED therapy as a non-invasive approach to enhance skin repair and counteract the effects of photoaging caused by UV exposure.

RESUMO

Low-dimensional semiconductor nanostructures, particularly in the form of nanowire configurations with large surface-to-volume-ratio, offer intriguing optoelectronic properties for the advancement of integrated photonic technologies. Here, a bias-controlled, superior dual-functional broadband light detecting/emitting diode enabled by constructing the aluminum-gallium-nitride-based nanowire on the silicon-platform is reported. Strikingly, the diode exhibits a stable and high responsivity (R) of over 200 mAW-1 covering an extremely wide operation band under reverse bias conditions, ranging from deep ultraviolet (DUV: 254 nm) to near-infrared (NIR: 1000 nm) spectrum region. While at zero bias, it still possesses superior DUV light selectivity with a high off-rejection ratio of 106. When it comes to the operation of the light-emitting mode under forward bias, it can achieve large spectral changes from UV to red simply by coating colloid quantum dots on the nanowires. Based on the multifunctional features of the diodes, this study further employs them in various optoelectronic systems, demonstrating outstanding applications in multicolor imaging, filterless color discrimination, and DUV/NIR visualization. Such highly responsive broadband photodetector with a tunable emitter enabled by III-V nanowire on silicon provides a new avenue toward the realization of integrated photonics and holds great promise for future applications in communication, sensing, imaging, and visualization.

RESUMO

In 2024, tandem perovskite light-emitting diodes (tandem-PLEDs) achieved a breakthrough external quantum efficiency of 43.42%, with an organic electroluminescence (EL) unit stacked atop a perovskite EL unit, surpassing the previous single-junction perovskite LEDs. This innovative design enables a higher brightness at lower currents, enhancing the longevity and efficiency of the tandem-PLEDs. Additionally, the tandem-PLEDs can also be fabricated by combining a perovskite EL unit with a perovskite quantum dot unit. In this perspective, the key advancements in tandem-PLEDs are highlighted, focusing on the development of perovskite-organic materials, perovskite-perovskite quantum dots, and the design principles for obtaining efficient and stable charge generation layers. But more importantly, the challenges and solutions are discussed in fabricating all-perovskite tandem LEDs using strongly polar solvents that have yet to be reported nowadays. This comprehensive guide aims to support researchers in advancing the practical deployment of tandem-PLED technology.

RESUMO

Zero-dimensional (0D) organic metal halides comprising heterogeneous metal cations in single phase can achieve multiple luminous emissions enabling them toward multifunctional light-emitting applications. Herein, A novel single crystal of (C8H20N)4SbMnCl9 containing two luminescent centers of [SbCl5]2- pentahedrons and [MnCl4]2- tetrahedrons is reported. The large distance between Sb-Sb, Mn-Mn, and Sb-Mn as well as theory calculation indicate negligible interaction between individual centers, thus endowing (C8H20N)4SbMnCl9 with excitation-dependable and efficient luminescence. Under near-UV excitation, only orange emission originates from self-trapped excitons recombination in [SbCl5]2- pentahedron occurs with photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 91.5%. Under blue-light excitation, only green emission originating from 4T1-6A1 transition of Mn2+ in [MnCl4]2- tetrahedrons occurs with PLQY of 66.8%. Interestingly, upon X-ray illumination, both emissions can be fully achieved due to the high-energy photon absorption. Consequently, (C8H20N)4SbMnCl9 is employed as phosphors to fabricate white light-emitting diodes optically pumped by n-UV chip and blue-chip thanks to its excitation-dependable property. Moreover, it also shows promising performance as X-ray scintillator with low detection limit of 60.79 nGyair S-1, steady-state light yield ≈54% of commerical scintillaotr LuAG:Ce, high resolution of 13.5 lp mm-1 for X-ray imaging. This work presents a new structural design to fabricate 0D hybrids with multicolor emissions.

RESUMO

Significant efforts are dedicated to developing new classes of organic semiconductor materials to achieve electrically pumped lasing. However, further advancements are necessary to understand the relationship between the structure and property for the creation of innovative laser materials with high stability, low triplet yield, ultra-low lasing threshold, and low-efficiency roll-off at ultra-bright electroluminescence. Here, a new design principle is validated for organic semiconductor laser materials, demonstrating simultaneous enhancement in the key figures of merit of low amplified spontaneous emission thresholds (Eth), efficient electroluminescence, and low triplet yields. By applying the Einstein stimulated emission rate equation and Strickler-Berg approximation, Two red-emitting laser dimers of Cibalackrot with different linkers are constructed, leading to giant enhancement (≈250%) in oscillator strengths, and stimulated emission cross-sections. When blended in poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-alt-benzothiadiazole), the new dimers achieve an ultra-low Eth (4.5 ± 0.3 µJ cm-2) in the deep red region (λASE = 655 nm), among the lowest reported for deep-red emitters. Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) utilizing the dimer blend exhibit low-efficiency roll-off under DC mode. Under pulse operation, the OLEDs achieve high current densities (90 A m-2) and ultrahigh brightness (≈710 000 cd m-2). These findings highlight the dimerization design as an excellent platform to advance organic semiconductor laser materials.

RESUMO

Addressing the challenge of lighting stability in perovskite white light emitting diodes (WLEDs) is crucial for their commercial viability. CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I, or mixed) nanocrystals (NCs) are promising for next-generation lighting due to their superior optical and electronic properties. However, the inherent soft material structure of CsPbX3 NCs is particularly susceptible to the elevated temperatures associated with prolonged WLED operation. Additionally, these NCs face stability challenges in high humidity environments, leading to reduced lighting performance. This study introduces a two-step dual encapsulation method, resulting in CsPbBr3@SiO2/Al2SiO5 composite fibers (CFs) with enhanced optical stability under extreme conditions. In testing, WLEDs incorporating these CFs, even under prolonged operation at high power (100 mA for 9 h), maintain consistent electroluminescence (EL) intensity and optoelectronic parameters, with surface temperatures reaching 84.2 °C. Crucially, when subjected to 85 °C and 85% relative humidity for 200 h, the WLEDs preserve 97% of their initial fluorescence efficiency. These findings underscore the efficacy of the dual encapsulation strategy in significantly improving perovskite material stability, marking a significant step toward their commercial application in optoelectronic lighting.

RESUMO

Red luminescent materials are essential components for full color display and white lightening based on organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology, but the extension of emission color towards red or deep red region generally leads to decreased photoluminescence and electroluminescence efficiencies. Herein, we wish to report two new luminescent molecules (2CNDPBPPr-TPA and 4CNDPBPPr-TPA) consisting of cyano-substituted 11,12-diphenyldipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine acceptors and triphenylamine donors. As the increase of cyano substituents, the emission wavelength is greatly red-shifted and the reverse intersystem crossing process is promoted, resulting in strong red delayed fluorescence. Meanwhile, due to the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds, the molecular structures become rigidified and planarized, which brings about large horizontal dipole ratios. As a result, 2CNDPBPPr-TPA and 4CNDPBPPr-TPA can perform as emitters efficiently in OLEDs, furnishing excellent external quantum efficiencies of 28.8 % at 616 nm and 20.2 % at 648 nm, which are significantly improved in comparison with that of the control molecule without cyano substituents. The findings in this work demonstrate that the introduction of cyano substituents to the acceptors of delayed fluorescence molecules could be a facile and effective approach to explore high-efficiency red or deep red delayed fluorescence materials.

RESUMO

Luminescent organometallic complexes of earth-abundant copper(I) have long been studied in organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). Particularly, Cu(I)-based carbene-metal-amide (CMA) complexes have recently emerged as promising organometallic emitters. However, blue-emitting Cu(I) CMA complexes have been rarely reported. Here we constructed two blue-emitting Cu(I) CMA emitters, MAC*-Cu-CF3Cz and MAC*-Cu-2CF3Cz, by introducing one or two CF3 substitutes into carbazole ligands. Both complexes exhibited high thermal stability and blue emission colors. Moreover, two complexes exhibited different emission origins rooting from different donor ligands: a distinct thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) from ligand-to-ligand charge transfer excited states for MAC*-Cu-CF3Cz or a dominant phosphorescence nature from local triplet excited state of the carbazole ligand for MAC*-Cu-2CF3Cz. Inspiringly, MAC*-Cu-CF3Cz had high photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 94 % and short emission lifetimes of down to 1.2 µs in doped films, accompanied by relatively high radiative rates in the 105 s-1 order. The resultant vacuum-deposited OLEDs based on MAC*-Cu-CF3Cz delivered pure-blue electroluminescence at 462 nm together with a high external quantum efficiency of 13.0 %.

RESUMO

Recent studies have shown that blue light-emitting diode (LED) light has anti-tumor effects, suggesting the possibility of using visible light in cancer therapy. However, the effects of blue light irradiation on cells in the tumor microenvironment, including tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), are unknown. Here, THP-1 cells were cultured in the conditioned medium (CM) of HCT-116 cells to prepare TAMs. TAMs were divided into LED-irradiated and control groups. Then, the effects of blue LED irradiation on TAM activation were examined. Expression levels of M2 macrophage markers CD163 and CD206 expression were significantly decreased in LED-irradiated TAMs compared with the control group. While control TAM-CM could induce HCT-116 cell migration, these effects were not observed in cells cultured in TAM-CM with LED irradiation. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) secretion was significantly suppressed in LED-exposed TAMs. PD-L1 expression was upregulated in HCT-116 cells cultured with TAM-CM but attenuated in cells cultured with LED-irradiated TAM-CM. In an in vivo model, protein expression levels of F4/80 and CD163, which are TAM markers, were reduced in the LED-exposed group. These results indicate that blue LED light may have an inhibitory effect on TAMs, as well as anti-tumor effects on colon cancer cells.

RESUMO

Ultraviolet radiation's germicidal efficacy depends on several parameters, including wavelength, radiant exposure, microbial physiology, biological matrices, and surfaces. In this work, several ultraviolet radiation sources (a low-pressure mercury lamp, a KrCl excimer, and four UV LEDs) emitting continuous or pulsed irradiation were compared. The greatest log reductions in E. coli cells and B. subtilis endospores were 4.1 ± 0.2 (18 mJ cm-2) and 4.5 ± 0.1 (42 mJ cm-2) with continuous 222 nm, respectively. The highest MS2 log reduction observed was 2.7 ± 0.1 (277 nm at 3809 mJ cm-2). Log reductions of SARS-CoV-2 with continuous 222 nm and 277 nm were ≥ 3.4 ± 0.7, with 13.3 mJ cm-2 and 60 mJ cm-2, respectively. There was no statistical difference between continuous and pulsed irradiation (0.83-16.7% [222 nm and 277 nm] or 0.83-20% [280 nm] duty rates) on E. coli inactivation. Pulsed 260 nm radiation (0.5% duty rate) at 260 nm yielded significantly greater log reduction for both bacteria than continuous 260 nm radiation. There was no statistical difference in SARS-CoV-2 inactivation between continuous and pulsed 222 nm UV-C radiation and pulsed 277 nm radiation demonstrated greater germicidal efficacy than continuous 277 nm radiation. Greater radiant exposure for all radiation sources was required to inactivate MS2 bacteriophage. Findings demonstrate that pulsed irradiation could be more useful than continuous UV radiation in human-occupied spaces, but threshold limit values should be respected. Pathogen-specific sensitivities, experimental setup, and quantification methods for determining germicidal efficacy remain important factors when optimizing ultraviolet radiation for surface decontamination or other applications.

RESUMO

5,6,11,12-tetraphenylnaphthacene (rubrene) exhibits resonant energy properties (ES1,rub≈ 2ET1,rub), resulting in rubrene-based organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices that undergo the singlet fission (STT) process at room temperature. This unique process gives rise to a distinct magneto-electroluminescence (MEL) profile, differing significantly from the typical intersystem crossing (ISC) process. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate charge generation and separation in the interconnector, and the mechanism of charge transport in tandem OLEDs at room temperature using MEL tools. We fabricate tandem OLEDs comprising green (Alq3) and yellow (Alq3:rubrene) electroluminescence (EL) units using different interconnectors. The results demonstrate that all devices exhibited significant rubrene emission. However, the MEL did not exhibit an STT process with an increasing magnetic field, but rather a triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) process. This occurrence is attributed to direct carrier trapping within doped EL units, which hinders the transport of rubrene trapped charges, consequently prolonging the lifetime of triplet excitons (T1,rub). Thus, the increased T1,rubconcentration causes TTA to occur at room temperature, causing the rapid decrease of MEL in all devices under high magnetic fields. In devices where only the TTA process occurs, the TTA increases with the increasing current. Consequently, the high magnetic field of devices A-C is only related to TTA. Notably, there exists a high magnetic field TTA of device D in the Alq3/1,4,5,8,9,11-Hexaazatriphenylene-hexacarbonitrile interconnector regardless of the current. This occurs because both EL units in the device emit simultaneously, resulting in the triplet-charge annihilation process of Alq3in the high magnetic field of the MEL. Moreover, the rapid increase in MEL at low magnetic field across all devices is attributed to the ISC between Alq3polaron pairs. This entire process involves Förster and Dexter energy transfer. This article not only provides novel insights into charge generation and separation in the interconnector but also enhances our understanding of the microscopic mechanisms in tandem OLED devices.

RESUMO

This study focuses on the development of regiospecific hydroarylation polyaddition of naphthalene- and carbazole-based monomers with diynes under mild reaction conditions at room temperature. A 1-pyrazole substituent serves as an appropriate directing group for a Co-catalyst to efficiently activate the C-H bonds of generally inactive six-membered aromatic hydrocarbons. The 1-pyrazole groups in 2,6-di(1-pyrazolyl)naphthalene adopt planar conformations and act as directing groups, resulting in a smooth hydroarylation reaction. In contrast, the reaction with 1,5-di(1-pyrazolyl)naphthalene do not proceed. The polyaddition reaction of 2,6-di(1-pyrazolyl)naphthalene selectively proceeds at 3,7-positions under mild reaction conditions at 30 °C, and yields corresponding poly(arylenevinylene) (PAV) with high molecular weight. This molecular design is also applicable to the hydroarylation polyaddition of carbazole; the polyaddition reaction of 9-(2-ethylhexyl)-3,6-di(1-pyrazolyl)carbazole selectively occurred at 2,7-positions. The optical and electronic properties of the synthesized compounds are evaluated. The obtained PAVs serve as an emitting material in organic light-emitting diode (OLED). This study aims to develop a Co-catalyzed hydroarylation polyaddition via C-H activation of generally inactive polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) under mild conditions.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Development of multi-, extensively-, and pandrug-resistant (MDR, XDR, and PDR) strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa remains a major problem in medical care. The present study evaluated the effect of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) as a monotherapy and in combination with colistin against P. aeruginosa isolates. METHODS: Two P. aeruginosa isolates recovered from patients with respiratory tract infections were examined in this study. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of colistin was determined by the colistin broth disk elution (CBDE) and the reference broth microdilution (rBMD) methods. aPDT was performed using the photosensitizer (Ps) riboflavin at several concentrations and a light-emitting diode (LED) emitting blue light for different irradiation times with or without colistin at 1/2 × MIC concentration. RESULTS: Both PA1 and PA2 isolates were identified as colistin-resistant P. aeruginosa with a MIC ≥4 µg/mL by the CBDE and MICs of 512 µg/mL and 256 µg/mL, respectively, by the rBMD. In aPDT, neither riboflavin nor LED light alone had antibacterial effects. The values of colony forming units per milliliter (CFU/mL) in both isolates were significantly reduced by LED + Ps treatments in a time-dependent manner (LED irradiation time) and dose-dependent manner (Ps concentration). In comparison with control, treatment with Ps (50 µM) + LED (120 s) and Ps (100 µM) + LED (120 s) resulted in 0.27 log10 CFU/mL and 0.43 log10 CFU/mL reductions in PA1, and 0.28 log10 CFU/mL and 0.34 log10 CFU/mL reductions in PA2, respectively, (P < 0.01). The best results were obtained after the combination of aPDT followed by colistin, which increased bacterial reduction, resulting in a 0.41-0.7 log10 CFU/mL reduction for PA1 and 0.35-0.83 log10 CFU/mL reduction for PA2 (P = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests the potential implications of aPDT in combination with antibiotics, such as colistin for treatment of difficult-to-treat P. aeruginosa infections.

RESUMO

High ocean temperatures caused by global warming induce oxidative stress in aquatic organisms. Melatonin treatment and irradiation using red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been reported to reduce oxidative stress in a few aquatic organisms. However, the effects of red LED irradiation and melatonin injection on the antioxidant capacity and degree of apoptosis in abalones, which are nocturnal organisms, have not yet been reported. In this study, we compared the expression levels of antioxidant enzymes, total antioxidant capacity, and the degree of apoptosis in abalones subjected to red LED irradiation and melatonin treatment. The results revealed that at high water temperatures (25 °C), the mRNA expression levels of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) genes and the antioxidant activity of SOD decreased in abalones in the red-LED irradiated and melatonin-treated groups compared with those in abalones in the control group. Although high water temperatures induced DNA damage in the abalone samples, the degree of apoptosis was lower in the red-LED irradiated and melatonin-treated groups than in the control group. Overall, the abalones in the melatonin-treated and red-LED irradiated groups showed reduced oxidative stress and increased antioxidant enzyme levels under thermal stress compared with those in the control group. Therefore, red LED irradiation is a promising alternative to melatonin treatment, which is difficult to administer continuously for a long time, for protecting abalones from oxidative stress.

RESUMO

Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) have been effective light sources in attracting Anopheles mosquitoes, but the broad-spectrum white light, even with a wide-ranging application in lighting, have not been evaluated yet. In this study, the white light was field evaluated against the green one in the light trapping of anopheline mosquitoes by using two non-suction Silva traps and two CDC-type suction light traps. Anopheline mosquitoes were captured for two 21-night periods of collecting (2022 and 2023). In the first period, two LEDs were used per Silva trap, but three were used in the second one to increase the luminance/illuminance at traps. A CDC-type suction light trap equipped with an incandescent lamp was used in 2022 and a CDC-type suction light trap equipped with a 6 V-white light (higher luminance/illuminance) in 2023. A total of eight species and 3,289 specimens were captured in both periods. The most frequent species were Anopheles triannulatus s.l., An. goeldii, An. evansae and An. argyritarsis. In 2022, white LEDs were less attractive to anopheline mosquitoes than the other light sources, but without statistical difference among treatments (F = 2.703; P = 0.0752; df = 2). In 2023, even with an increased luminance/illuminance at traps, no statistical difference was found between the two LED-baited Silva traps (F = 6.690; P = 0.0024; df = 2), but rather between the 6 V-white-baited CDC-type suction light trap and green-baited Silva traps. Due to some drawbacks and the lower abundance of individuals caught by using white LEDs, the narrow-banded green LEDs is preferable to white ones for attracting anophelines.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Long-term human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients are considered at higher risk for osteoporosis. Among the various causes that lead these patients to lower bone health, there is the use of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), especially protease inhibitors (PI), such as ritonavir (RTV). In this context, emerge the potential benefits of LED therapy, whose effects on bone cells are currently being extensively studied, showing a modulation in cell differentiation. However, it remains unclear if photobiostimulation might interfere with RTV effects on osteoblast differentiation. METHODS: In the present study, we investigated the effects of red LED (625 nm) irradiation (15 mW/cm2, 0.2 J/cm2, and 8 mW/cm2, 0.12 J/cm2) on osteoblast cell line MC3T3-E1 treated with RTV (2.5, 5, and 10 µg/mL). RESULTS: Our results indicated that red LED irradiation was able to reverse, or at least minimize, the deleterious effects of RTV on the osteoblasts. Neither the ARV treatments 5 and 10 µg/mL (104.4% and 95.01%) nor the LED protocols (100.3% and 105.7%) statistically altered cell viability, assessed by the MTT assay. Also, the alkaline phosphatase activity and mineralization showed a decrease in osteoblast activity followed by ARV exposure (39.3-73%), which was attenuated by LED in more than 70% with statistical significance (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, photobiostimulation with red LED at 625 nm was associated with improved beneficial biological effects as a potential inducer of osteogenic activity on RTV-affected cells. This is the first study that investigated the benefits of red LED irradiation over ARV-treated in vitro osteoblasts.

RESUMO

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic and multifactorial diseases characterized by dysfunction of the intestinal mucosa and impaired immune response. Data show an important relationship between intestine and respiratory tract. The treatments of IBD are limited. Photobiomodulation (PBM) is an effective anti-inflammatory therapy. Our objective was to evaluate the repercussion of IBD as well as its treatment with PBM on pulmonary homeostasis. Male Wistar rats were submitted to IBD induction by acetic acid and treated or not with PBM. Rats were irradiated with red LED on both right and left sides of the ventral surface and beside the external anal region during 3 consecutive days (wavelenght 660 nm, power 100 mw, total energy 15 J and time of irradiation 150 s per point). Our results showed that IBD altered pulmonary homeostasis, since we observed an increase in the histopathological score, in myeloperoxidase activity (MPO), in mast cell degranulation, and in the release and gene expression of cytokines. We also showed that PBM treatment reduced biomarkers of IBD and reverted all augmented parameters in the lung, restoring its homeostasis. Thus, we confirm experimentally the important gut-lung axis and the role of PBM as a promising therapy.

RESUMO

Objective of the study is to assess the effects of wound healing with a commercially available light emitting diode (LED) photo biomodulation (PBM) device that emits three wavelengths (465, 640 and 880nm) after ablative fractional laser (AFL) treatment to healthy skin on the bilateral inner biceps. We conducted a prospective intraindividual randomized controlled study with 25 volunteers. AFL treatment was performed on healthy skin of the bilateral inner biceps. Subjects applied the LED light device for 30 min to the assigned bicep 3 times a week over 4 weeks, beginning on day 0. Subjects were followed up on days 2, 4, 6, 9, 13, 20 and 27 for treatment with the PBM device, clinical digital photography of the test and control sites, and in-person subject assessment, with follow ups on days 34 and 55 for clinical photography and assessment. Three blinded evaluators were asked to determine which bicep healed faster between day 0 to day 13. Pain, discomfort, and itch were also assessed. The three blinded evaluators chose the treatment arm as the faster healed arm in greater than 50% of the images, although the results were not statistically significant. There was no statistically significant difference between test and control arms in terms of pain, discomfort and itch. In conclusion, PBM therapy has the potential to improve wound healing. In this study, a three wavelength PBM device resulted in some subjects achieving faster healing after AFL but the results were not statistically significant.
