BACKGROUND: Although the association between eating habits which can be modified and digestive diseases has been reported, to date, no research has evaluated the association between eating habits and ulcerative colitis (UC). Thus, we investigate the association between eating behavior and clinical outcome in Japanese patients with UC. METHODS: Eating quickly, eating until full, and skipping breakfast data was obtained from a self-administered questionnaire. Information on clinical outcome was collected from medical records. Mucosal healing (MH) and partial MH was defined as a Mayo endoscopic subscore of 0 or 0-1, respectively. Age, sex, BMI, current smoking, current drinking, prednisolone use, and anti-TNFα monoclonal antibody use were selected a priori as potential confounding factors. RESULTS: Study subjects consisted of 294 Japanese patients with UC. Eating at speed moderate and eating quickly were independently inversely associated with MH: the adjusted odds ratios (ORs) were 0.38 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.16-0.85) and 0.38 (95% CI 0.17-0.81) (p for trend = 0.033). Eating until full was independently inversely associated with MH: the adjusted OR was 0.38 (95% CI 0.27-0.86). MH in patients who skipped breakfast was marginally lower than that in patients who did not skip breakfast. No association between eating habits and clinical remission or partial MH was found. CONCLUSION: Among patients with UC, eating rate and eating until full may be independently inversely associated with MH but not clinical remission.

At present, acellular matrix is an effective replacement material for the treatment of skin damage, but there are few systematic evaluation studies on its performance. The experimental group of this study used two decellularization methods to prepare the matrix: one was the acellular matrix which sterilized with peracetic acid first (0.2% PAA/4% ethanol solution) and then treated with hypertonic saline (group A), the other was 0.05% trypsin/EDTA decellularization after γ irradiation (group B); and the control group was soaked in PBS (Group C). Then physical properties and chemical composition of the three groups were detected. Hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining showed that the acellular effect of group B was good. The porosity of group A and B were both above 84.9%. In group A, the compressive modulus of elasticity was (9.94 ± 3.81) MPa, and the compressive modulus of elasticity was (12.59 ± 5.50) MPa in group B. There was no significant difference between group A or B and group C. The total content of collagen in acellular matrix of group A and B was significantly lower than that of group C (1. 662 ± 0.229) mg/g, but there was no significant difference in the ratio of collagen Ⅰ/Ⅲ between group B and group C. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) showed that there was no significant difference in microstructure. Qualitative detection of fibronectin and elastin in each group was basically consistent with that in group C. Therefore, acellular matrix of group B had better performance as scaffold material. The experimental results show that the acellular matrix prepared by γ-ray sterilization and decellularization of 0.05% Trypsin enzyme/EDTA could be used for the construction of tissue-engineered skin. It could also provide reference for the preparation and mounting of heterogeneous dermal acellular matrix. It was also could be used for electrostatic spinning or three-dimensional printed tissue engineered skin scaffold which could provide physical and chemical parameters for it.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this intervention study was to investigate whether intensive health guidance focusing on eating quickly can prevent metabolic syndrome (MetS) more effectively than standard routine guidance in Japanese citizens living in rural areas. METHODS: This controlled, non-randomized, intervention study analyzed 141 participants with MetS at baseline. Participants in the intervention group received health guidance focusing on eating quickly and standard health guidance about MetS in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan, whereas participants in the control group received only standard health guidance about MetS. The primary study outcome was the prevalence of MetS at a 1-year follow-up. RESULTS: At 1-year follow-up, the prevalence of MetS in the intervention group was significantly lower than that in the control group (p = 0.003). The decreases in body weight, body mass index, waist circumference and triglycerides from baseline to 1 year were significantly greater in the intervention group than in the control group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Intensive health guidance focusing on eating quickly is more effective for improving MetS than standard Japanese health guidance alone. The widespread popularity of smartphones makes it possible to provide Location-Based Services (LBS) in a variety of complex scenarios. The location and contextual status, especially the Indoor/Outdoor switching, provides a direct indicator for seamless indoor and outdoor positioning and navigation. It is challenging to quickly detect indoor and outdoor transitions with high confidence due to a variety of signal variations in complex scenarios and the similarity of indoor and outdoor signal sources in the IO transition regions. In this paper, we consider the challenge of switching quickly in IO transition regions with high detection accuracy in complex scenarios. Towards this end, we analyze and extract spatial geometry distribution, time sequence and statistical features under different sliding windows from GNSS measurements in Android smartphones and present a novel IO detection method employing an ensemble model based on stacking and filtering the detection result by Hidden Markov Model. We evaluated our algorithm on four datasets. The results showed that our proposed algorithm was capable of identifying IO state with 99.11% accuracy in indoor and outdoor environment where we have collected data and 97.02% accuracy in new indoor and outdoor scenarios. Furthermore, in the scenario of indoor and outdoor transition where we have collected data, the recognition accuracy reaches 94.53% and the probability of switching delay within 3 s exceeds 80%. In the new scenario, the recognition accuracy reaches 92.80% and the probability of switching delay within 4 s exceeds 80%.

Several cross-sectional studies have shown that eating quickly is associated with overweight in children and adolescents. However, few cohort studies have examined this relationship. Here we investigated the relationship between eating quickly and overweight in a cohort study of fourth-grade schoolchildren (aged 9 or 10 years) who attended elementary schools in Ina-town, Japan. The children were followed for 3 years from 2001-2004 (at baseline) to 2004-2007. A questionnaire survey including information about eating speed (fast, medium, or slow) was administered, and height and weight measurements were obtained at baseline and follow-up. Overweight was defined according to the body mass index cutoff points proposed by the International Obesity Task Force. We used a Poisson regression model to examine the association between eating quickly at baseline and being overweight 3 years later. Data from 934 non-overweight children (465 boys, 469 girls) were analyzed. Eating quickly was not significantly associated with being overweight in the boys, whereas it was significantly associated with being overweight in the girls. Our analysis indicates that among girls, eating quickly leads to overweight, and that the modification of eating quickly could help prevent overweight in adolescents.

BACKGROUND: In examining childhood overweight/obesity, there is a need to consider both eating quickly and eating until full. This longitudinal study investigated the influence of eating quickly and/or eating until full on anthropometric variables and becoming overweight/obese among Japanese schoolgirls. METHODS: Study participants were fourth-grade schoolgirls (aged 9 or 10 years) in Ina Town, Japan. Physical examinations and a questionnaire survey were performed at baseline (fourth grade) and after 3 years (seventh grade). Height, weight, and waist circumference were measured in the physical examinations, while the data on eating quickly and eating until full were collected in the questionnaire survey. Analysis of variance and analysis of covariance were used to compare the differences in each anthropometric variable between fourth and seventh grade among groups. RESULTS: Data on 425 non-overweight/obese schoolgirls in fourth grade were analyzed. Gains in anthropometric variables (body mass index, waist circumference, and waist-to-height ratio) from fourth to seventh grade were significantly larger in the "eating quickly and eating until full" group than in the "not eating quickly and not eating until full" group. In contrast, there were no significant differences in the gains between the "eating quickly or eating until full" group and the "not eating quickly and not eating until full" group. The proportion of overweight/obese girls in seventh grade was higher in the "eating quickly and eating until full" group than in the other groups. CONCLUSIONS: Eating quickly and eating until full had a substantial impact on excess gains in anthropometric variables among schoolgirls, suggesting that modifying these eating behaviors may help prevent non-overweight/obese girls from the excess gains. Accordingly, school health programs need to focus on not eating quickly and/or not eating until full to prevent overweight/obesity; it is necessary to emphasize "the risk of overweight/obesity associated with these eating behaviors" in schools.

RESUMO

At present, urban flood risk analysis and forecasting and early warning mainly use numerical models for simulation and analysis, which are more accurate and can reflect urban flood risk well. However, the calculation speed of numerical models is slow and it is difficult to meet the needs of daily flood control and emergency. How to use artificial intelligence technology to quickly predict urban flooding is a key concern and a problem that needs to be solved. Therefore, this paper combines a numerical model with good computational accuracy and an LSTM artificial neural network model with high computational efficiency to propose a new method for fast prediction of urban flooding risk. The method uses the simulation results of the numerical model of urban flooding as the data driver to construct the LSTM neural network prediction model of each waterlogging point. The results show that the method has a high prediction accuracy and fast calculation speed, which can meet the needs of daily flood control and emergency response, and provides a new idea for the application of artificial intelligence technology in the direction of flood prevention and mitigation.

Vanishing tumor of the lung, also known as phantom tumor, is uncommonly observed in congestive heart failure. We report a case of a vanishing tumor that rapidly disappeared and reappeared in just a few minutes due to repositioning in a patient after open-heart surgery.

RESUMO

Brain organoids are 3D cytoarchitectures resembling the embryonic human brain. This review focuses on current advancements in biomedical engineering methods to develop organoids such as pluripotent stem cells assemblies, quickly aggregated floating culture, hydrogel suspension, microfluidic systems (both photolithography and 3D printing), and brain organoids-on-a-chip. These methods have the potential to create a large impact on neurological disorder studies by creating a model of the human brain investigating pathogenesis and drug screening for individual patients. 3D brain organoid cultures mimic not only features of patients' unknown drug reactions, but also early human brain development at cellular, structural, and functional levels. The challenge of current brain organoids lies in the formation of distinct cortical neuron layers, gyrification, and the establishment of complex neuronal circuitry, as they are critically specialized, developmental aspects. Furthermore, recent advances such as vascularization and genome engineering are in development to overcome the barrier of neuronal complexity. Future technology of brain organoids is needed to improve tissue cross-communication, body axis simulation, cell patterning signals, and spatial-temporal control of differentiation, as engineering methods discussed in this review are rapidly evolving.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of single-point prostate biopsy in elderly patients with highly suspected prostate cancer. Methods: Forty-three patients with a prostate imaging reporting and data system score (PI-RADS) of 5, age ≥ 80 years and/or PSA ≥ 100 ng/ml and/or Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group score ≥ 2 were enrolled in our hospital from March 2020 to June 2022. Targeted surgery of these patients was performed using only precise local anesthesia in the biopsy area. The biopsy tissues were examined by intraoperative frozen section examination (IFSE). If the result of IFSE was negative, traditional systematic biopsy and further routine pathological examination were performed. The positive rate of biopsy, operation time, complications and pain score were recorded. Results: The positive rate of prostate biopsy was 94.7%. The results of IFSE in two patients were negative, and the routine pathological results of further systematic biopsy of those patients were also negative. The visual analog scale and visual numeric scale were 2 (2-4) and 3 (2-3), respectively, during the biopsy procedure. The mean time of operation was 8.5 ± 2.1 min from the beginning of anesthesia to the end of biopsy. It took 35.3 ± 18.7 minutes to obtain the pathological report of IFSE. The incidences of complication hematuria and urinary retention were 10.5% and 2.6%, respectively. Conclusion: For elderly patients with highly suspected prostate cancer, single-point prostate biopsy can be used to quickly and safely obtain pathological results.

Fast self-reported eating rate (SRER) has been associated with increased adiposity in children and adults. No studies have been conducted among high-school students, and SRER has not been validated vs. objective eating rate (OBER) in such populations. The objectives were to investigate (among high-school student populations) the association between OBER and BMI z-scores (BMIz), the validity of SRER vs. OBER, and potential differences in BMIz between SRER categories. Three studies were conducted. Study 1 included 116 Swedish students (mean ± SD age: 16.5 ± 0.8, 59% females) who were eating school lunch. Food intake and meal duration were objectively recorded, and OBER was calculated. Additionally, students provided SRER. Study 2 included students (n = 50, mean ± SD age: 16.7 ± 0.6, 58% females) from Study 1 who ate another objectively recorded school lunch. Study 3 included 1832 high-school students (mean ± SD age: 15.8 ± 0.9, 51% females) from Sweden (n = 748) and Greece (n = 1084) who provided SRER. In Study 1, students with BMIz ≥ 0 had faster OBER vs. students with BMIz < 0 (mean difference: +7.7 g/min or +27%, p = 0.012), while students with fast SRER had higher OBER vs. students with slow SRER (mean difference: +13.7 g/min or +56%, p = 0.001). However, there was "minimal" agreement between SRER and OBER categories (κ = 0.31, p < 0.001). In Study 2, OBER during lunch 1 had a "large" correlation with OBER during lunch 2 (r = 0.75, p < 0.001). In Study 3, fast SRER students had higher BMIz vs. slow SRER students (mean difference: 0.37, p < 0.001). Similar observations were found among both Swedish and Greek students. For the first time in high-school students, we confirm the association between fast eating and increased adiposity. Our validation analysis suggests that SRER could be used as a proxy for OBER in studies with large sample sizes on a group level. With smaller samples, OBER should be used instead. To assess eating rate on an individual level, OBER can be used while SRER should be avoided.

BACKGROUND: An elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and a low aspartate aminotransferase (AST) to ALT ratio (AST/ALT ratio) suggest nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, increasing the risk of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, eating quickly has been found to be associated with outcomes such as obesity. This study sought to investigate the relationship between eating quickly and an elevated ALT or a low AST/ALT ratio in Japanese middle-aged adults. METHODS: The present study included 283,073 adults aged 40-64 years who had annual health checkups in Japan from April 2013 to March 2014. The data of serum parameters and lifestyle factors, including eating speed, were analyzed. An elevated ALT was defined as > 40 U/L, and a low AST/ALT ratio was defined as < 1. Logistic regression analysis was performed to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and the 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for an elevated ALT and a low AST/ALT ratio. RESULTS: Significantly increased ORs for an elevated ALT were observed in men (OR: 1.45, 95% CI: 1.41-1.49) and women (OR: 1.34, 95% CI: 1.25-1.43). Moreover, eating quickly significantly increased the ORs for a low AST/ALT ratio in men (OR: 1.53, 95% CI: 1.50-1.56) and women (OR: 1.36, 95% CI: 1.31-1.41). When the analysis was limited to those with ALT ≤40 U/L, eating quickly had significantly increased ORs for a low AST/ ALT ratio, regardless of sex. CONCLUSIONS: Eating quickly was significantly associated with an elevated ALT and a low AST/ALT ratio. In addition, eating quickly was significantly associated with a low AST/ALT ratio even for those without ALT elevation. This study suggested that modification of eating speed may contribute to reducing the risk for an elevated ALT and a low AST/ALT ratio.

Treatment goals in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) include improved quality of life and exercise capacity as well as improved life prognosis. In our experience, only remarkable reductions in pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) improve long-term survival. Lowering PAP could contribute to reverse remodeling by reducing hemodynamic stress. Proper and prompt use of PAH-specific drugs lowers PAP in patients with PAH. Upfront combination therapy with different PAH-specific drugs and quickly establishing high-dose epoprostenol lowers PAP sufficiently to improve prognosis in patients with PAH. PAH is often a comorbidity with other diseases including congenital heart defect, connective tissue diseases, and pulmonary arterial aneurysm. It is essential in these conditions to lower PAP to allow the next treatment strategy. In this report, we review modern treatments to lower PAP in patients with PAH.

【Objective】 To develop a quick and accurate crossmatching test technology without the power equipment and additional reagents before blood transfusion, so as to improve the timeliness and safety of blood transfusion treatment in sudden situations as war or natural disasters. 【Methods】 The irregular antibodies quickly promote coagulants (QPC) were used as the reaction medium reagent. The 200 μL QPC were wrapped in the bursts bead and preset within different recess of the detection tubes. The bursts beads were squeezed with the reagent left in the well, then the blood samples were dropped in the main(recipient plasma: 200 μL, donor 3%—5% RBC: 100 μL) and secondary(donor plasma: 200 μL, recipient 3%—5% RBC: 100 μL)reaction grooves. The result interpretated by hand wrestling or 1 500 g centrifugation of 15 seconds. Meanwhile, the comparing experiments with the prior methods were implemented to evaluate the method’s reliability. 【Results】 The results of the bursting reagent, being stored at 37℃ for one week, were consistent with those of the freshly prepared cross-matching reagent, indicating that the bursting reagent was practical in the field and had good stability at normal temperature. No statistical difference between the sensitivity and the results of the microcolumn gel method was noticed by paired data t test (P>0.05). The parallel cross matching tests of 50 clinical samples were performed by microcolumn gel method and coagulant-bursting technique; the Kappa value was 0.973 2, and irregular antibodies were detected in 2 cases, with concordance rate at 100%, showing good consistency. 【Conclusion】 The improved method is simple and fast, and also safe and reliable for compatibility testing before blood transfusion, which is especially suitable for the field rescue of the wounded in wartime and sudden natural disasters, and is worthy of popularization.

BACKGROUND: Central obesity, based on waist circumference (WC), has more adverse effects on health than general obesity, determined by body mass index. To date, eating quickly has been reported to be risk factors for overweight/obesity among children, adolescents, and adults. In contrast, there are few studies on the relationship between fast eating and central obesity among adolescents, particularly in Japan, where WC is not commonly measured in junior high schools. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between eating quickly and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), an index of central obesity, among adolescents in Japan. METHODS: Study subjects were 2136 seventh-grade school children (12 or 13 years of age) from Ina town junior high schools in Japan, between 2004 and 2009. Measurements of height, weight, and WC were performed, and information about eating habits was collected using a self-administered questionnaire. A logistic regression model was used to calculate the odds ratio (OR) and 95 % confidence interval (95 % CI) for WHtR ≥ 0.5. RESULTS: Eating quickly significantly increased the OR for WHtR ≥ 0.5 in boys (OR: 2.05, 95 % CI: 1.31-3.23) and girls (2.09, 1.15-3.81). When compared with the "not eating quickly and not eating until full" group, the OR for WHtR ≥ 0.5 in the "eating quickly and eating until full" group was 2.67 (95 % CI: 1.50-4.73) in boys and 2.59 (1.17-5.73) in girls, whereas that in the "eating quickly and not eating until full" group or the "not eating quickly and eating until full" group was not statistically significant regardless of sex. CONCLUSIONS: The present study showed that eating quickly was associated with WHtR ≥ 0.5, and "eating quickly and eating until full" had a substantial impact on WHtR ≥ 0.5 among adolescents. This study suggests that modifying fast eating to a slower pace may help prevent central obesity among adolescents.

Then physical properties and chemical composition of the three groups were detected. Hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining showed that the acellular effect of group B was good. The porosity of group A and B were both above 84.9%. In group A, the compressive modulus of elasticity was (9.94 ± 3.81) MPa, and the compressive modulus of elasticity was (12.59 ± 5.50) MPa in group B. There was no significant difference between group A or B and group C. The total content of collagen in acellular matrix of group A and B was significantly lower than that of group C (1. 662 ± 0.229) mg/g, but there was no significant difference in the ratio of collagen Ⅰ/Ⅲ between group B and group C. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) showed that there was no significant difference in microstructure. Qualitative detection of fibronectin and elastin in each group was basically consistent with that in group C. Therefore, acellular matrix of group B had better performance as scaffold material. The experimental results show that the acellular matrix prepared by γ-ray sterilization and decellularization of 0.05% Trypsin enzyme/EDTA could be used for the construction of tissue-engineered skin. It could also provide reference for the preparation and mounting of heterogeneous dermal acellular matrix. It was also could be used for electrostatic spinning or three-dimensional printed tissue engineered skin scaffold which could provide physical and chemical parameters for it.

As research progresses on how guard cells perceive and transduce environmental cues to regulate stomatal movement, plant biologists are discovering key roles of protein phosphorylation. Early research efforts focused on characterization of ion channels and transporters in guard cell hormonal signaling. Subsequent genetic studies identified mutants of kinases and phosphatases that are defective in regulating guard cell ion channel activities, and recently proteins regulated by phosphorylation have been identified. Here we review the essential role of protein phosphorylation in ABA-induced stomatal closure and in blue light-induced stomatal opening. We also highlight evidence for the cross-talk between different pathways, which is mediated by protein phosphorylation.

Being overweight is an important risk factor for lifestyle-related diseases. The objective of the present study was to examine whether eating until full, eating quickly, or both eating behaviors were associated with being overweight, defined as a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25, in young adults. This cross-sectional survey comprised 1918 students (1139 male and 779 female students) at the Okayama University in Japan. In logistic regression analysis, eating until full was not associated with being overweight in either sex. The adjusted odds ratio of being overweight among those who reported eating quickly was 3.93 (2.45-6.31; P < .0001) for male and 1.59 (0.79-3.21; P = .193) for female students. Moreover, the adjusted odds ratio of being overweight was 2.72 (1.72-4.30; P < .001) in male students who frequently reported eating a fatty diet. The combination of eating quickly and frequently eating a fatty diet had a supra-additive effect on being overweight in the male students.

La extrusión dentaria o erupción forzada es una opción de tratamiento con enormes ventajas cuando nos vemos obligados a tratar fracturas corono-radiculares. Se define como el movimiento en dirección coronal a través de la aplicación de fuerzas ligeras y continuas para provocar cambios en los tejidos blandos y hueso. La extrusión dental forzada amplía las alternativas en cuanto a la rehabilitación futura del paciente, ya que se puede optar por la restauración periférica total con anclaje del resto radicular, o bien por la exodoncia posterior a la extrusión, con la consecuente mejoría de las condiciones del tejido óseo para una posterior rehabilitación implanto-asistida. Presentación de caso clínico, pieza dentaria 2.2 con fractura corono-radicular en la cual se realizó tratamiento de erupción forzada y rehabilitación protésica (AU)


Extrusion or forced eruption es a treatment option with enormous advantages when we are forced to treat crown-root fractures. It is defined as the movement in the coronal direction through the application of light and continuous forces to cause changes in the soft tissues and bone. Forced dental extrusion expands the alternatives regarding the future rehabilitation of the patient, since it is possible to choose either total peripheral restoration with anchoring of the radicular rest of the post-extrusion extraction, with the consequent improvement of bone tissue conditions for subsequent implant-assissted rehabilitation. Presentation of a case report: tooth 2.2 with a crown-root fracture in which forced eruption and prosthetic rehabilitation were performed (AU)

Objective To explore the effect of group mind-games and group counseling on training burnout among soldiers who quickly marched to the plateau for the first time .Methods Totally 399 soldiers who quickly marched to the plateau for the first time were divided randomly into to the control group ( n=201 ) and test group ( n=198 ) .The test group had particinated in group mind-games and psychological counseling twice a week for a total of 5 weeks, while the control group received no counseling .Soldier training fatigue questionnairs were used to compare the difference between the two groups before and after group mind-games and psychological counseling .Results ①The total scores of training burnout and the scores of all the factors of soldiers before counseling in the two groups was of no statistical significance (P>0.05). After counseling , the total scores of training burnout and the scores of all factors in test group were remarkably lower than those in control group,and the difference was of statistical significance (P<0.05).The total scores of training burnout and the scores of physical and psychologica exhaustion and alienaties decreased significantly after training in test group ( P<0.05), but the change was of no statistical significance in control group (P>0.05).②Soldiers who had served 1 to 2 years or over 9 years had significant difference in the scores of training burnout , physical and psychologica exhaustion ( P<0.05).Soldiers who had served 3 to 8 years had significant difference in the scores of training and the scores of each factor after counseling(P<0.05).Conclusion Group mind-games and psychological counseling can effectively help alleviate the training burnout of soldiers who quickly march to the plateau for the first time.
