[Orthodontic treatment as definitive therapy in cranio-cervico-mandibular dysfunction]. / Il trattamento ortodontico come terapia definitiva nelle disfunzioni cranio-cervico-mandibolari.

ABSTRACT

After an initial review of the terminology adopted in cranio-cervico-mandibular dysfunctions the two possible forms of treatment indicated by instrumental kinesiography--coronoplasty and orthotic therapy--are described. Since the second is provisional, lasting about 6 months, definitive treatment whether prosthetic, orthodontic or mixed is then required. The concepts and techniques of definitive orthodontic treatment are described in detail with particular emphasis on the programming of the definitive occlusal plane, the biomechanics and the extrusion system. The report ends with a description of a clinical case.
