Objective:

To evaluate the nutritional status and evolution, as well asthe appropriateness of prescribing nutrition in patients with acute pancreatitis.

Methods:

A prospective descriptive longitudinal study with olderadults, both sexes with acute pancreatitis. Patients with ommunicationdifficulties or ambulation were excluded. Data collected and presentedas measures of location and dispersion in the form of frequency tables. Results analyzed selected as recommended guidelines, and other studies. Results and

discussion:

Prevalence of suspected or moderate or severe malnutrition was 25% (n = 11), 11% (n = 5) of patients were below thenormal range as Body Mass Index (BMI) and 50% (n = 22 ) were abovethe normal range. Average time of fasting was 3.63 days (± 1.83 days)and 16.20 days of hospitalization (± 13.58 days). Feedback orally waspredominantly (73%, n = 32) orally with standard diet hypercalorichospital (40.74 kcal / kg / day), hyperproteic (1.5 g / Kg / day) and low--fat. Overall nutritional goals have not been achieved by patients with enteral nutrition. Patients with parenteral nutrition nutritional goals reached on the third day, except lipids. Biochemical monitoring in parenteral nutrition was partially followed and introduced some changes in markers of liver function and was not observed biochemical changesin enteral nutrition. Weight loss seems greater in prolonged hospitalization.

Conclusion:

A quarter of the sample had nutritional risk at admission and 89% BMI at or above the normal range. Weight loss seemed proportional to the length of stay. The guidance during refeeding with oral diet, as well as analysis and evaluation of the indication of artificial nutrition should be strengthened. More studies should be conducted to evaluate the nutritional care.(AU)
