RESUMO

With the rapid growth of the construction industry and urbanization, the construction and demolition waste (CDW) has constituted the most major solid waste flow in the world. The unsustainable management of CDW causes serious societal and environmental issues, as well as leads to resource waste, which directly and indirectly impact on United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Due to the awareness of the destructive effect by CDW, the academic and industry have devoted to offer a sustainable pathway for CDWM, which characterizes minimizing carbon footprints as well as proposing circular approaches. In this context, CDW can be reused, recycled and recovery as a value resource. Therefore, this study proposed a unique research method that combines qualitative and quantitative approaches in the form of bigdata analysis and machine learning, which aims to explore the CDWM related knowledge and innovation from academic and industrial perspective respectively. Especially, what is different trends in CDWM-related of academia and industry between pre- and post-SDGs declaration era(s)? What aspects of SDGs have been addressed by academia and industry in pre- and post-SDGs declaration era(s)? The study witnessed that a 350% increase in the growth of academic literature and a 278% increase in the growth in industrial patents compared to pre-SDGs declaration period. In the academia, the emerging topics of research has shifted to management, circular economy, life cycle assessment, and ETC. Similarly, patent citation illustrated that the attention of stakeholders on CDWM in the construction industry has shifted from a linear point to a circular view. Moreover, the result showed that SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) have noted as most seriously addressed concerns by academia and industry.

RESUMO

Academia and industry have strengthened each other under the guidelines of regulatory institutions to contribute theoretical knowledge and practical solutions for society, which can be presented in a combination of publishing research and filing patents. In the case of municipal solid waste management (MSWM), a great transformation from a linear to a circular view has been in process. In this study, we investigated the role of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in MSWM-related development and transformation. The authors examined the contributions of academic and industrial spheres to MSWM in the past 70 years by examining Web of Science's Core Collection and Derwent Innovations Index. The results showed that SDGs not only accelerated the research on MSWM but also pulled MSWM-related knowledge and innovation to new fronts that focus on sustainable and circular methods. Based on the current findings, we derived implications for academia, industry, and policymakers.

RESUMO

This paper investigates the intellectual structure of the literature addressing "epidemic/pandemic" and "aviation industry" through a bibliometric approach to the literature from 1991 to 2021. The final count of 856 publications was collected from Web of Science and analyzed by CiteSpace (version 5.8.R1) and VOS Viewer. Visualization tools are used to perform the co-citation, co-occurrence, and thematic-based cluster analysis. The results highlight the most prominent nodes (articles, authors, journals, countries, and institutions) within the literature on "epidemic/pandemic" and "aviation industry." Furthermore, this study conceptualizes and compares the growth of literature before theCOVID-19 pandemic and during the COVID-19 ("hotspot") era. The conclusion is that the aviation industry is an engine for global economics on the road to recovery from COVID-19, in which soft (human) resources can play an integral part.

RESUMO

China used to be the world's leading nation in terms of international (outward) tourism till the COVID-19 outbreak. However, due to the COVID-19 crisis, several new macro and micro-level factors might affect their international (outward) traveling behavior. The purpose of the current research was to examine the avoidance of international traveling for leisure in the Chinese population. The goal of the study was to highlight the importance of information self-efficacy and digital literacy as the key factors influencing tourists' traveling readiness. To achieve the goal, the study adapted the quantitative instruments from existing sources to map media exhaustion, information overload, and perceived health concerns, i.e., perceived effectiveness of health-protective measures, fear of new possible outbreaks, and pandemic crisis at source and destination. Chinese citizens' opinions were collected during the third quarter of the year 2022. Specifically, the quantitative survey from China collected a total number of 1308 respondents. This study used the statistical analysis software SPSS to analyze collected data. The findings conclude that the role of media is pivotal to shaping and predicting future trends in tourism preferences, perception of protective measures against COVID-19, and perceived seriousness of the pandemic crisis in the Chinese population. In addition, technology readiness (as hard self-efficacy) and health-related information literacy (soft self-efficacy) are critical to cope with the dark aspects of information exhaustion, overload, and pandemic seriousness in the post-truth era. The study is unique, as it examines the role of the seriousness of the pandemic at its source and destination and fear of new outbreaks simultaneously, underlining the potential future of immersive tourism (i.e., virtual reality, augmented reality, or mixed reality-based tourism). This study has drawn interesting theoretical and practical implications for researchers, policymakers, and academicians.

RESUMO

Objective: Alarmingly, the individuals' reach and coverage to get vaccinated in developing regions during the pandemic is a massive challenge for concerned authorities. This study aimed to demonstrate how cyberchondria play a significant role in a classical health belief model. Cyberchondria may influence cognitive factors (e.g. self-efficacy), which may contribute to an increase in attitude-behavior gap. Especially in the context of a health-centric scenario, it may discourage individuals to take protective measures. Method: By using the cross-sectional research design, the authors conducted a quantitative survey in Pakistan and collected 563 responses from 303 male respondents (rural = 91; urban = 212) with (Urban M:35.5, standard deviation (SD):13.4) and rural M:37.5, SD:8.4). Result: The findings indicate that decision self-efficacy among males is stronger than that in females. It dominates other determinants, which can dampen the individuals' intentions to get vaccinated. For instance, the effect of conspiracies and perceived seriousness was noted nonsignificant and weak. In females, perceived seriousness was stronger determinant than in males. In addition, the negative effect of decision self-efficacy was noted in the case of females, and conspiracy and cyberchondria had a negative role. Conclusion: This study highlights valuable implications for future research in infodemic, health communication and health literacy, and practical implications for regulatory bodies and public administration.

RESUMO

The virtual reality (VR) applications in entertainment and tourism industry have become growingly intense among generation Z. Interestingly, some pilot research on tourism studied concluded the positive impact of its flow experience on adoption of VR tourism, which is also driving the risk of immersive addictive. In the context of tourism and information and communication technology (ICT)-based innovation, there is a lack of immersive addictive behavior (IAB)-related literature. In addition, during the currently ongoing pandemic crisis, VR technology has gained particular importance in the tourism industry among generation Z. The present venture underlines the mechanism of IAB, investigates the VR addiction while underlining the cognitive abilities of individuals. This study applies empirical framework of cognitive-behavioral model. Results demonstrate that in the case of VR tourism, the immersive experience (presence and flow) determines the addictive behavior. Furthermore, VR imagery (VI), psychological curiosity (PC), and VR convenience (VRC) have significant influence on the VR presence and immersive flow. Moreover, the practical and theoretical implications have been discussed in the current research to prevent IAB.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected the economic, social, and psychological aspects globally. COVID-19 can possibly spread through municipal solid waste (MSW) if it is collected, bagged, transported, and disposed inappropriately. Such situation has posed significant challenges to MSW management (MSWM), which has led waste personnel under massive pressure. This study aims to examine the health-protective behavior of sanitation workers/MSW collectors (MSWCs) during the COVID-19 crisis. Quantitative data were collected by using a self-administered survey from 418 MSWCs working in Mainland China. The study extended the traditional health-belief model and proposed education and training as a facet of the behavioral model. Result showed that education and training were a significant predictor of health-protective behavior. Moreover, the moderating incremental influence of regulative assistance significantly affected the behavioral mapping of MSWCs. This study contributes to the literature by mapping the concerns, risks, and challenges experienced by MSWCs in times of a health crisis. Policymakers should specially consider the safety and hygiene concerns of frontline workforce in the whole chain of waste management (including the outsourced operations of MSWM). Lastly, the adoption of smart communication with the frontline workforce (i.e., MSWCs) is in dire need to maintain trust and avoid rumors and misconceptions during the time of a pandemic situation.

RESUMO

Social media has encouraged a large number of organizations to design their work patterns to facilitate their employees through social media adoption. This study examines the effects of enterprise social media and public social media on the novelty-focused product design, and efficiency-focused product design that eventually explain the performance of the designers. Empirical analysis based on time-lagged, multi-source data set indicate that both enterprise social media and public social media are an important source of product designer's inspiration which are positively related to novelty-focused design and efficiency-focused product design. Results further indicate that efficiency-focused product design has a stronger impact on designer performance than novelty-focused design. Theoretical implications and practical implications are discussed in the later sections.

RESUMO

In recent decades, China has transformed from a conventional society into a digitally competitive nation. From an economic perspective, embedded corporate social responsibility (CSR) is gaining a new height where gamified charity is a trendy approach. By adopting the norm activation model from the point of view of the stimulus-organism-response framework, this research theoretically conceptualized the role of the mobile application environment (including telepresence, functional transparency, and accessibility) to map the cognition and philanthropic behavioral intentions of consumers in the gamified setting. The quantified survey comprised 669 respondents. The findings highlighted the critical role of functional transparency and telepresence of a mobile application in driving consumers' warm glow and ascribed responsibility. The research underlined the presence of the unique DNA of Internet Plus Charity (Public Benefits) for prosocial and pro-environmental purposes in China under the umbrella of philanthropic CSR.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a severe global public health emergency. The current research investigated and compared "Natives and Sojourners" health-protective behavior in Mainland China during the pandemic. We adopted a unified view to propose our theoretical model by adapting the Health Belief Model (HBM) and Institutional Theory (IT). The data obtained through an online survey questionnaire from 435 respondents during the second and third quarters of were analyzed. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to empirically analyze the proposed model. The media self-efficacy (MSE), scientific self-efficacy (SSE), perceived health risks (PHRs), and the perceived benefits of being protected have positive and significant effects on the definition of health-protective behavioral intentions among natives and sojourners in mainland China. Media and SSE can play a strategic role in formulating public health-protective behavior. The current research recommends an effective communication with sojourners during crisis for them to be a part of the national crisis management plan (i.e., infectious disease).

RESUMO

Smog pollution deteriorates environmental quality and has severe health risks. This affects the daily lives of people in China, particularly in urban areas. Along with other factors, a large portion for smog comes from transportations, making it dense and more hazardous in urban areas. The Chinese government aims to reduce air pollution by promoting electric vehicles and green modes for mobility along with other environmental protection measures. The study explores the switching intentions of people from motorized vehicles to electric vehicles by integrating push-pull-mooring model and institutional theory. The study incorporates environmental quality, regulative environment, alternative attractiveness, normative environment, self-(decision)efficacy, and willingness to pay into an integrated framework. The study further analyzes the green behavior of consumers by extending switching intentions for electric vehicles. The integrated framework explains mooring as the most influential factor followed by normative environment from pull factors and environmental quality from push factors. The effect of regulative environment remains weak and significant, but the effect of alternative attractiveness remains weak and insignificant. The switching intentions strongly and significantly explain green behavior. Furthermore, mooring moderates the relationship between push factors, some of the pull factors, and switching intentions.

RESUMO

China is facing the dual challenge of economic development and environment protection. Recently, Shanghai (tier-1 city) implemented the pilot project of household solid waste (HSW) management and expects to execute a similar project in 45 cities across China by 2020. The current research's aim is to examine the pilot project's progress by comparing it with existing HSW management practice in other cities. From a theoretical perspective, a socio-ecological framework is used to examine citizens' HSW sorting behavior (HSWSB), which is further mapped based on the theory of planned behavior to enrich the findings. A total of 1409 citizen responses are utilized to generalize the findings. The study concludes that replicating tier-1 practices in other cities could produce unsatisfactory results. The regulatory environment should focus on comparatively long-lasting citizen behavior change by designing a citizen-centric approach (i.e., awareness campaigns) related to ecological concerns (i.e., climate change) because it could define the future of HSWSB practice in Chinese society.

RESUMO

Climate change and environmental degradation have negatively affected the sustainable development of mankind. The "green" concept has been gradually accepted by the public, thereby strongly promoting "green" business forms and social innovation. This study adopts related information and technology knowledge and experience and warm glow (altruistic value) for business initiatives as push factors, market opportunity (MO) and personal innovativeness (PI) in technology as pull factors, and institutional theory (regulatory support and normative support) as mooring factors. These factors are employed to analyze the switching intentions of individuals toward green entrepreneurship, which is a new persuasive psychological model based on Push-Pull-Mooring model (PPM). The survey questionnaires are collected from a total of 1562 respondents through WeChat in mainland China. The study findings present all variables that significantly affect individuals' switching intentions toward green entrepreneurs. PI exhibits the most significant impact on intention of individuals toward green entrepreneurship, while the interaction between the mooring factor and MO on switching intentions to green entrepreneurship is relatively weak. Finally, the study contributes theoretical and practical implications for increasing intentions toward green entrepreneurship.

RESUMO

The study proposes an empirical model (based on stimulus-organism-response as conceptual framework) to analyse sojourners' intention to adopt green practices (i.e., electronic consumption behaviour). Specifically, the proposed model comprises ethical, ecological and economic concerns as stimuli while mapping sojourners' altruistic traits and beliefs in climate change, which further lead to their green behaviour. The study investigates a sample of 1184 sojourners in China. Results highlight that sojourners' perceived concerns (stimuli) are partially mediated by sojourners' altruistic traits and beliefs in climate change while defining their green behaviour. The novel contributions of the current study include determining sojourners' green behaviour, the role of scientific literacy and regulatory policy in green behaviour and generalising and proposing the concept of sojourner leakage (adapted from tourism leakage). The study emphasises that sojourners can be strategic stakeholders by involving them in designing, implementing and communicating green policies and reforms in diverse societies.

RESUMO

"Climate change communication" is taking the strategic position in the international and national politics around the globe. In the recent decade, different developing nations have started considering "climate change communication" as an integral part of the political campaigns and sustainable development. Specifically, the current document comprised of two sections. In the first section of the study, authors briefly compared the attributes related to "climate change communication" in the mainstream political parties' manifesto for the general election 2018 in Pakistan in a qualitative manner. In the second part, the difference of opinion among voters of mainstream political parties towards "climate change" was examined. In a bird's eye view, the perceived seriousness of "climate change" as a real challenge among voters mapped by the independent factors of "urbanization," "industrialization," "transportation," and "waste management" for sustainable development through the primary quantitative survey of 732 voters in the country. The finding highlights (1) public understanding of "socio-scientific issues," i.e., climate change is easy to communicate, and (2) how political parties are framing and communicating about "climate change" plays a significant role in climate change communication. The study concludes that "climate change communication" holds a critical role in developing regions' future political discourse to shape sustainable development policies.

RESUMO

The study examines the critical factors affecting Chinese social media (SM) users' intentions and behavior to seek and share information on genetically modified organisms/ genetically modified food (GMO/GMF). The proposed framework was conceptualized through benefit-risk analysis and subsequently mapped SM users' perceived benefits and risks to seeks and share information using Kurt Lewin's valence view. Quantitative data was collected using survey questionnaires administered from 583 SM users. The results of the path analysis demonstrated two key findings related to SM users' perceived benefits and risks to seek and share information on GMO/GMF. Among risks, the psychological risk is the strongest predictor of perceived risk to use SM for GMO/GMF, which consequently determines the intentions and behaviors to share information about GMO/GMF on SM in People's Republic of China. Among benefits, the results showed that perceived usefulness, creditability of GMO/GMF information, and information support are positively related to perceived benefits to use SM for GMO/GMF, which subsequently, predicts the intentions and behaviors to seek information about GMO/GMF on SM. This study suggests scholars and practitioners explore and utilize the efficient communication strategy to fulfill the potential of the SM to increase GMO/GMF acceptance in Chinese society.
