BACKGROUND: Lipoleiomyoma is a rare, benign variant of the commonplace uterine leiomyoma. Unlike leiomyoma, these tumors are composed of smooth muscle cells admixed with mature adipose tissue. While rare, they are most frequently identified in the uterus, but even more infrequently have been described in extrauterine locations. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a case report of a 45-year-old woman with a history of in vitro fertilization pregnancy presenting 6 years later with abdominal distention and weight loss found to have a 30-cm intra-abdominal lipoleiomyoma. While cross-sectional imaging can narrow the differential diagnosis, histopathological analysis with stains positive for smooth muscle actin, desmin, and estrogen receptor, but negative for HMB-45 confirms the diagnosis of lipoleiomyoma. The large encapsulated tumor was resected en bloc. The patients post-operative course was uneventful and her symptoms resolved. CONCLUSIONS: Lipoleiomyoma should be considered on the differential diagnosis in a woman with a large intra-abdominal mass. While considered benign, resection should be considered if the mass is symptomatic, and the diagnosis is unclear or there is a concern for malignancy.

Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy afflicting women during their lifetime. Screening for breast cancer can reduce mortality through early cancer detection. Lack of knowledge is an important barrier leading to low screening rates. Little research has evaluated breast cancer knowledge and barriers to receiving appropriate screening among Arab Americans. Given that the Arab American population has grown approximately 47% since 2000, this study was designed to assess breast cancer knowledge and screening barriers in an Arab American community. An anonymous survey addressing knowledge assessment and screening for breast cancer was distributed at the Arab Community Center for Economics and Social Services in Dearborn, MI between June 2015 and August 2017. The survey was modified based on a similar study that was conducted Among Adult Saudi women in a primary health care setting. 102 non-BC survivors, 48 BC survivors and 50 men participated in this study. Gaps in knowledge around the role of age and family history, as well as cancer presentation were noted among the participants. Additionally, 51% of non-BC survivors over the age of 40 years have not had a screening mammogram in the past 2 years with leading causes being absence of symptoms, lack of health insurance, and absence of family history. Healthcare providers and community organizations should work towards increasing knowledge levels, reducing misconceptions and improving screening rates for breast cancer among Arab Americans. Increasing community outreach and education and navigating the community's health beliefs and practices can optimize the process of information delivery to community members.

OBJECTIVE: Morning rounds are a bedrock learning opportunity during clinical rotations in medical school. Specific feedback is critical for students to improve presentation skills and build confidence, however, current feedback mechanisms are fragmented and nonstandard. We aimed to assess whether video-based coaching of morning rounds could improve student feedback and self-awareness without increasing anxiety during patient presentations. DESIGN: Medical students during core clinical clerkships were filmed presenting on morning rounds during their surgery clerkship. A designated faculty coach reviewed the video prior to an in-person coaching session. Students reviewed the video with faculty and were coached on content, presentation style, and presence. A short survey assessed students' pre- and postcoaching confidence, skill, and the utility of the coaching session. SETTING: University of Michigan Health System, Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, Ann Arbor, Michigan PARTICIPANTS: Eight medical student volunteers during their core clinical clerkships at University of Michigan Medical School during the surgery clerkship. RESULTS: Comparison of pre- and post self-assessments showed that students underestimated their knowledge of basic and clinical science and overestimated their clinical assessment skills and ability to appropriately address the core components of a presentation. Most students (75%) did not think that the filming process altered their performance and only 25% of students felt increased anxiety due to filming. All students agreed that the feedback session was useful and helped them understand how to improve their oral presentations. CONCLUSION: This pilot demonstrates the feasibility and value of video-based coaching as an educational tool for medical students on clerkships. A larger sample size is needed to further evaluate the effectiveness of video-based coaching in establishing baseline clinical abilities and identifying potential areas for improvement.
