RESUMO

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has rapidly spread over the world, resulting in a global severe pneumonia pandemic. Both the cell receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and the breakdown of S protein by transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) are required by SARS-CoV-2 to enter the host cells. Similarly, the expression level of viral receptor genes in various organs determines the likelihood of viral infection. Several animal species have been found to be infected by the SARS-CoV-2, such as minks, posing an enormous threat to humans. Because the mice and rats were closely related to human and the fact that rats and mice have a risk of infection by SARS-CoV-2 with specific variants, we investigated the expression patterns of 79 receptor genes from 107 viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, in 14 organs of the rat and mouse, and 5 organs of the muskrat, to find the most likely host organs to become infected with certain viruses. The findings of this study are anticipated to aid in prevention of zoonotic infections spread by rats, mice, muskrats, and other rodents.

RESUMO

Muskrat is a small fur animal with a pair of scent glands that can secrete muskrat musk during breeding season. The consensus is muskrat musk functions as a pheromone, but we hypothesized it has a broader role. In previous research, we found the presence of muscone in muskrat musk. To study whether the muscone can affect the apoptosis of muskrat prostate, we carried out the following investigations. Primary muskrat prostate cells were cultured and treated with muscone. Then we drew cell proliferation curves by applying the CCK-8 and used TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) to detect apoptosis. Levels of mRNA transcription and protein expression of Bcl-2 as well as Bax were detected by qRT-PCR and the Western blot. Meanwhile, we collected tissue samples of muskrat prostates and froze sections to analyze the fluorescence signal intensity of BCL-2 and BAX via immunofluorescence. Under the treatment of 30 µmol/L muscone, the proliferation rate of the experimental group exceeded that of the control group, and the proportion of cells undergoing apoptosis was lower in the experimental group. The qRT-PCR and Western blot result showed that, in the experimental group, the ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax mRNA transcription levels increased by 2.85 times and their corresponding protein expression ratio increased by 2.37 times (P < 0.05). Immunofluorescence results were consistent with the cell experiment's results. The fluorescence signal intensity of BCL-2 was higher in the breeding season than nonbreeding season but vice versa for BAX. Based on these results, we speculate that the muscone could regulates prostate development by inhibiting apoptosis.

RESUMO

We present an experimental observation of 37D5/2 + 6S1/2Cs2 Rydberg-ground molecules by employing a two-photon photoassociation method. Two distinct Rydberg-ground molecular signals, deep and shallow bound molecules, are observed at the red detuning of atomic line. In theory, the model of scattering interaction between the Rydberg electron and ground-state atom is used to simulate the experiments. Two potential energy curves with energy minimum, deep pure triplet 3Σ and shallow hyperfine-mixed singlet-triplet 1,3Σ potentials, refer to the attained Rydberg-ground molecular signals, respectively. Calculations of the binding energy of triplet 3Σ and mixed 1,3Σv = 0 states are compared with the measurements. The agreement between the calculated and measured values of the binding energy yields zero-energy scattering lengths as T(0) = -19.2a0 and as S(0) = -1.3a0, respectively.

RESUMO

The muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus) is a semi-aquatic rodent species with ecological, economic, and medicinal importance. Here, we present an improved genome assembly, which is the first high-quality chromosome-level genome of the muskrat with high completeness and contiguity assembled using single-tube long fragment read, BGISEQ, and Hi-C sequencing technologies. The genome size of the final assembly was 2.63 Gb with 27 pseudochromosomes. The length of scaffold N50 reached 80.25 Mb with a Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Ortholog score of 91.3%. We identified a 66.98 Mb X chromosome and a 1.14-Mb Y-linked genome region, and these sex-linked regions were validated by resequencing 32 extra male individuals. We predicted 19,396 protein-coding genes, among which 19,395 (99.99%) were functionally annotated. The expanded gene families in the muskrat genome were found to be enriched in several organic synthesis- and metabolism-related Gene Ontology terms, suggesting the likely genomic basis for the production and secretion of musk. This chromosome-level genome represents a valuable resource for improving our understanding of muskrat ecology and musk secretion.

RESUMO

We sequenced the entire mitochondrial genome of Lyrurus tetrix for the first time. The mitogenome was 16,677 bp in length, encoded with a standard set of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes plus a putative control region. Almost all genes were encoded on the H-strand except the ND6 and eight tRNA genes. All protein-coding genes initiated with ATG, except for COX1 and ND5 (GTG). An 18-bp-nucleotide deletion occurred in the ND6 of Lyrurus tetrix in contrast to other Galliformes. The total base composition of the mitogenome was 30.4% for A, 30.4% for C, 25.8% for T and 13.4% for G. These results provide basic information for phylogenetic analyses among Galliformes.

RESUMO

Pumpkin has been employed for the first time as a renewable, low-cost precursor for the preparation of porous carbon materials with excellent performance. Unlike most other precursors, pumpkin is rich in sugars and starch, and it has advantageous properties for large-scale production. The as-prepared materials adopted a unique morphology that consisted of numerous fused sphere-like carbon grains with a high specific surface area (2968 m(2) g(-1) ), abundant micro and mesopores, and excellent electrochemical properties. The pumpkin-derived activated carbon (PAC) material not only exhibited a high specific capacitance of 419 F g(-1) , but also showed considerable cycling stability, with 93.6 % retention after 10 000 cycles. Moreover, a symmetrical supercapacitor that was based on PAC showed a high energy density of 22.1 W h kg(-1) in aqueous electrolyte. These superior properties demonstrate that PAC holds great promise for applications in electrochemical energy-storage devices.
