RESUMO

The Fe:Zn(1-x)Mg(x)Se (x = 0.19, 0.27, and 0.38) solid solutions spectroscopic properties were investigated and laser oscillations were achieved for the first time. The increase of the magnesium concentration in the Fe:ZnMgSe crystal was shown to result in an almost similar long wavelength shift of both absorption and fluorescence spectra of about 60 nm per each 10% of magnesium. With the Fe:ZnMgSe crystal temperature decrease, the fluorescence spectrum maximum shifts towards shorter wavelength resulting mainly from strong narrowing of the longest wavelength fluorescence line. Laser radiation wavelength dependence on the magnesium concentration as well as on temperature was observed. The Fe:ZnMgSe x = 0.38 laser oscillation wavelength increased from 4780 nm at 80 K to 4920 nm at 240 K using the optical resonator without any intracavity spectrally-selective element. In comparison with the Fe:ZnSe laser operating in similar conditions, these wavelengths at both temperatures were shifted by about 500 nm towards mid-IR region.

RESUMO

Late summer sampling of pelagic age-0 year fish communities in five Czech reservoirs and one Dutch reservoir revealed extremely small age-0 year pikeperch Sander lucioperca (mean 24 mm standard length, LS , minimum 13 mm LS ) alongside more normal-sized S. lucioperca that are found at the end of the first growing season (mean 50 mm LS ), resulting in two clearly size-separated cohorts. Reference to such small age-0 year S. lucioperca in lakes or reservoirs at this time of year and in such large numbers are almost absent the scientific literature, and the presence of these small S. lucioperca is contradictory to the common understanding of the reproductive biology of this species. This overlooked phenomenon may have a major effect on the population dynamics of this valuable species because of size-dependent winter mortality.

RESUMO

In July 2008, early juvenile tubenose goby Proterorhinus semilunaris were found in nocturnal pelagic waters of the Vranov Reservoir, Czech Republic. Presence of benthic-living prey in the guts of these fish suggested migration between benthic and pelagic habitats.

RESUMO

It is now recognized that occlusion of the mesenteric veins not only may complicate a number of disease processes but may occur as a life-threatening complication after abdominal surgery. 54-year-old female patient with Leiden mutation that undergone bariatric operation after one month from the surgery rehospitalized and operated with the diagnosis of superior mesenteric vein thrombosis with unavoidable resection of the intestine. Patient's state after surgery with following aggressive hematologic treatment becomes better. Mesenteric and portal vein flow is more fluent as showed by repeated CT angiography scans in comparison with pre-operative status. Patient currently on oral anticoagulant therapy.

RESUMO

The results of operative treatment of 83 pathologic fractures and 17 impending pathologic fractures of the long bones are reported. The results of a group of 53 patients who underwent an osteosynthesis only are compared with those of a group of 43 patients who were subsequently treated 47 times with an osteosynthesis in combination with bone cement. With regard to the degree of mobilization there is a statistically significant difference in favor of the group treated with bone cement. The incidence of complications is low. Immediate use of the involved extremity in these patients minimizes complications associated with prolonged immobilization and enhances the quality of the remainder of their lives.

RESUMO

High-pressure chromatography on Spheron 300 BTD and Spheron 1000 was used to separate tobacco mosaic virus from other components of an extract from infected tobacco leaves, including F1, a protein having a molecular weight of 0.58 X 10(6). Comparative experiments have shown that the virus is not adsorbed by the carrier and is eluted in the free volume of the column; the virus is free from contamination by vegetable-juice components and is regained quantitatively. The virus can be separated partially, but distinctly, from the F1 protein by using a column of microgranular Spheron 300. Polyhydric phenols in the vegetable extract are adsorbed on Spheron and eluted from the column after a delay.

RESUMO

Nine severely burned patients were submitted to reverse isolation in a mass airflow system. Their burns became colonized by Enterobacteriaceae biotypes which were not found in the patients own flora on admission. They were, therefore, probably derived from the food which was obtained from the central kitchen. These strains did not cause bacteriaemia. Suggestions to improve the isolation efficiency are made.

RESUMO

The effect of DH-ET (dihydroergotoxine = 33% DH-ergocornine (DH-ECO) + 33% DH-ergocristine (DH-ECS) + + 33% DH-ergokryptine (DH-alfa-ECP: DH-beta-ECP = 2:1 and that of the single DH-derivatives on the retention of 14C-uridine (14C-U) in three parts of the brain tissue, blood plasma and liver tissue was estimated (i.e. radioactivity four hours after ip. adm. of 74kBq X 100 g-1). In young male rats DH-ET and DH-ECO enhanced the retention of 14C-U especially in the parietal cortex In one year old males DH-ECS and DH-alfa-ECP had the greatest effect. As a model of undesired effects the influence on peripheral blood flow in the hind limb of urethanised rats was examined using the perfusion' technics. All substances in the dose of 1 microgram removed epinephrine induced vasoconstriction although they themselves in the dose of 100 micrograms enhanced the perfusion pressure, excepting DH-ECO. All substances diminished the liver blood pool in urethanised rabbits (as norepinephrine does), most efficient being DH-beta-ECP and DH-ECO. On the other hand these substances also slowed the velocity of blood stream. The highest toxicity (LD) of DH-ECS and the lowest one of DH-alfa-ECP was found by an infusion technique. All substances diminished heart frequency but had a variable effect on PQ and QT ECG intervals. Ranging all substances according to their desirable properties from the geriatric viewpoint an index for each substance was calculated. This was most advantageous in the case of DH-alfa-ECP and DH-ECS in contrast to DH-ET and DH-ECO.

RESUMO

In 233 patients with acute diarrhoea in paired sera Campylobacter antibodies classes IgG and IgA were assessed by the ELISA method. As antigen the external membrane protein of the strain Campylobacter jejuni was used. Raised IgG levels (greater than 50 u.) and/or IgA (greater than 80 u.) were found in 15% of all examined patients. A quadruple increase of values in one or both classes was recorded in 12.4% of the patients. The incidence of antibodies against Campylobacter jejuni provides evidence that this infectious agent is frequent in this country. Antibodies class IgA suggest by their dynamics acute contact with the Campylobacter antigen. On the other hand, IgG antibodies are not of major importance in newly diagnosed disease.
