BACKGROUND: In patients with coronary artery disease who are being evaluated for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), procedures can be guided by fractional flow reserve (FFR) or intravascular ultrasonography (IVUS) for decision making regarding revascularization and stent implantation. However, the differences in clinical outcomes when only one method is used for both purposes are unclear. METHODS: We randomly assigned 1682 patients who were being evaluated for PCI for the treatment of intermediate stenosis (40 to 70% occlusion by visual estimation on coronary angiography) in a 1:1 ratio to undergo either an FFR-guided or IVUS-guided procedure. FFR or IVUS was to be used to determine whether to perform PCI and to assess PCI success. In the FFR group, PCI was to be performed if the FFR was 0.80 or less. In the IVUS group, the criteria for PCI were a minimal lumen area measuring either 3 mm2 or less or measuring 3 to 4 mm2 with a plaque burden of more than 70%. The primary outcome was a composite of death, myocardial infarction, or revascularization at 24 months after randomization. We tested the noninferiority of the FFR group as compared with the IVUS group (noninferiority margin, 2.5 percentage points). RESULTS: The frequency of PCI was 44.4% among patients in the FFR group and 65.3% among those in the IVUS group. At 24 months, a primary-outcome event had occurred in 8.1% of the patients in the FFR group and in 8.5% of those in the IVUS group (absolute difference, -0.4 percentage points; upper boundary of the one-sided 97.5% confidence interval, 2.2 percentage points; P = 0.01 for noninferiority). Patient-reported outcomes as reported on the Seattle Angina Questionnaire were similar in the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with intermediate stenosis who were being evaluated for PCI, FFR guidance was noninferior to IVUS guidance with respect to the composite primary outcome of death, myocardial infarction, or revascularization at 24 months. Glucocorticoid use may cause elevated intraocular pressure, leading to the development of glucocorticoid-induced glaucoma (GIG). However, the mechanism of GIG development remains incompletely understood. In this study, we subjected primary human trabecular meshwork cells (TMCs) and mice to dexamethasone treatment to mimic glucocorticoid exposure. The myofibroblast transdifferentiation of TMCs was observed in cellular and mouse models, as well as in human trabecular mesh specimens. This was demonstrated by the cytoskeletal reorganization, alterations in cell morphology, heightened transdifferentiation markers, increased extracellular matrix deposition, and cellular dysfunction. Knockdown of Rho guanine nucleotide exchange factor 26 (ARHGEF26) expression ameliorated dexamethasone-induced changes in cell morphology and upregulation of myofibroblast markers, reversed dysfunction and extracellular matrix deposition in TMCs, and prevented the development of dexamethasone-induced intraocular hypertension. And, this process may be related to the TGF-ß pathway. In conclusion, glucocorticoids induced the myofibroblast transdifferentiation in TMCs, which played a crucial role in the pathogenesis of GIG. Inhibition of ARHGEF26 expression protected TMCs by reversing myofibroblast transdifferentiation. This study demonstrated the potential of reversing the myofibroblast transdifferentiation of TMCs as a new target for treating GIG.

Interleukin-5 (IL-5) has been reported to be involved in cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis and cardiac injury. This study aimed to investigate the effects of IL-5 on cardiac remodelling. Mice were infused with angiotensin II (Ang II), and the expression and source of cardiac IL-5 were analysed. The results showed that cardiac IL-5 expression was time- and dose-dependently decreased after Ang II infusion, and was mainly derived from cardiac macrophages. Additionally, IL-5-knockout (IL-5-/-) mice were used to observe the effects of IL-5 knockout on Ang II-induced cardiac remodelling. We found knockout of IL-5 significantly increased the expression of cardiac hypertrophy markers, elevated myocardial cell cross-sectional areas and worsened cardiac dysfunction in Ang II-infused mice. IL-5 deletion also promoted M2 macrophage differentiation and exacerbated cardiac fibrosis. Furthermore, the effects of IL-5 deletion on cardiac remodelling was detected after the STAT3 pathway was inhibited by S31-201. The effects of IL-5 on cardiac remodelling and M2 macrophage differentiation were reversed by S31-201. Finally, the effects of IL-5 on macrophage differentiation and macrophage-related cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis were analysed in vitro. IL-5 knockout significantly increased the Ang II-induced mRNA expression of cardiac hypertrophy markers in myocardial cells that were co-cultured with macrophages, and this effect was reversed by S31-201. Similar trends in the mRNA levels of fibrosis markers were observed when cardiac fibroblasts and macrophages were co-cultured. In conclusions, IL-5 deficiency promote the differentiation of M2 macrophages by activating the STAT3 pathway, thereby exacerbating cardiac remodelling in Ang II-infused mice. IL-5 may be a potential target for the clinical prevention of cardiac remodelling.

BACKGROUND: The concentrations of linezolid, its optimal regimen and the associated side effects in elderly patients remain unclear. METHODS: In this multicentre, prospective study, elderly patients receiving linezolid at four tertiary hospitals in Beijing between May 2021 and December 2022 were included. Linezolid concentrations and haematological toxicity were monitored dynamically. Risk factors for linezolid overexposure and moderate-to-severe linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia (M/S LIT) were analysed, and a predictive model of M/S LIT was developed. RESULTS: A total of 860 linezolid concentrations were measured in 313 patients. The median trough concentrations of linezolid were 24.4 (15.3, 35.8) mg/L at 36-72 h and 26.1 (17.0, 38.1) mg/L at 5-10 days (P = 0.132). Severe linezolid exposure was independently associated with age, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the worst SOFA score (SOFA1), and we further recommended dose regimens for elderly patients based on these findings. The incidences of linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia(LIT) and M/S LIT were 73.5% and 47.6%, respectively. M/S LIT was independently correlated with treatment duration, average trough concentration (TDMa), baseline platelet count, eGFR and baseline SOFA score (SOFA0). The developed nomogram predicted M/S LIT with an area under the curve of 0.767 (95% CI 0.715-0.820), a sensitivity of 71.1% and a specificity of 73.2%. CONCLUSIONS: Linezolid trough concentrations increased dramatically in the elderly, by about 10 mg/L in patients aged 65-80 years, followed by a further increase of 10 mg/L for every 10 years of age. Therapeutic drug monitoring is recommended in elderly patients receiving linezolid. The developed nomogram may predict M/S LIT and guide dosage adjustments of linezolid. Exposure to particulate matters in air pollution of 2.5 µm or less (PM2.5) was associated with loss of meibomian glands. The aim of this study was to verify that PM2.5 could directly impact meibomian gland epithelial cells and damage their function. To investigate the impact of PM2.5 on meibomian gland, immortalized human meibomian gland epithelial cells were treated with various concentrations of PM2.5in vitro. Meibomian gland cell microstructure, cell viability, expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen and IL-1ß, and intracellular accumulation of acidic vesicles were measured by transmission electron microscopy, cell counting, Western blot and LysoTracker staining, respectively. To further study the effect of PM2.5in vivo, male C57BL/6J mice were treated with 5 mg/ml PM2.5 or vehicle for 3 months. Corneal fluorescein staining and ocular examinations were done before and after the treatment. Eyelids tissues were processed for morphological studies, immunostaining and Oil Red O staining. Our data suggest that exposure to PM2.5 caused significant meibomian gland dropout, clogged gland orifice and increased corneal fluorescein staining that were consistent with the clinical presentations of meibomian gland dysfunction. Prominent changes in the morphology and ultrastructure of meibomian glands was observed with PM2.5 treatment. PM2.5 promoted ductal keratinization, inhibited cell proliferation, induced cell apoptosis and increased Interleukin-1ß production in meibomian gland epithelial cells. This study may explain the association between PM2.5 exposure and meibomian gland dropout observed in clinic. PM2.5 resuspension instillation could be used to induce a meibomian gland dysfunction animal model.

Optically transparent glass with antifogging and antibacterial properties is in high demand for endoscopes, goggles, and medical display equipment. However, many of the previously reported coatings have limitations in terms of long-term antifogging and efficient antibacterial properties, environmental friendliness, and versatility. In this study, inspired by catfish and sphagnum moss, a novel photoelectronic synergy antifogging and antibacterial coating was prepared by cross-linking polyethylenimine-modified titanium dioxide (PEI-TiO2), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA). The as-prepared coating could remain fog-free under hot steam for more than 40 min. The experimental results indicate that the long-term antifogging properties are due to the water absorption and spreading characteristics. Moreover, the organic-inorganic hybrid of PEI and TiO2 was first applied to enhance the antibacterial performance. The Staphylococcus aureus and the Escherichia coli growth inhibition rates of the as-prepared coating reached 97 and 96% respectively. A photoelectronic synergy antifogging and antibacterial mechanism based on the positive electrical and photocatalytic properties of PEI-TiO2 was proposed. This investigation provides insight into designing multifunctional bioinspired surface materials to realize antifogging and antibacterial that can be applied to medicine and daily lives.

INTRODUCTION: The association of serum sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) concentrations with dementia risk remains uncertain in middle-aged to older women. We examined associations of serum SHBG levels with incidence of all-cause dementia and its subtypes in middle-aged to older women from the large population-based UK Biobank cohort study. METHODS: Serum total SHBG levels were measured by immunoassay. The incidence of all-cause dementia and its subtypes was recorded. Cox proportional hazards models were used to calculate hazard ratios (HR) for main outcomes. RESULTS: Among 171,482 community-dwelling women (mean [SD] age was 59.9 [5.4] years, median follow-up of 11.8 years), 2,368 developed dementia, including 1,088 from Alzheimer's disease (AD), 451 from vascular dementia (VAD), and 1,609 from other dementia. After multivariable adjustments, higher serum SHBG levels were significantly associated with higher risks of all-cause dementia, AD, and other dementia (all p < 0.05). Compared to those in the lowest quartile of SHBG levels, participants in the highest quartile of SHBG levels had a higher risk of all-cause dementia (HR: 1.34; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.16-1.53), AD (HR: 1.32; 95% CI: 1.07-1.62), and other dementia (HR: 1.44; 95% CI: 1.21-1.70). However, this relationship was not significant for VAD (HR: 1.16; 95% CI: 0.86-1.56). CONCLUSION: These findings indicated that higher serum SHBG concentrations were independently associated with higher risks of incident all-cause dementia, as well as AD and other dementia among middle-aged to older women. No association was found for VAD.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant carcinoma with an extremely poor prognosis, and its pathogenesis remains to be understood to date, necessitating further investigation. This study aims to discover biomarkers and potential therapeutic agents for ACC through bioinformatics, enhancing clinical diagnosis and treatment strategies. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between ACC and normal adrenal cortex were screened out from the GSE19750 and GSE90713 datasets available in the GEO database. An online Venn diagram tool was utilized to identify the common DEGs between the two datasets. The identified DEGs were subjected to functional assessment, pathway enrichment, and identification of hub genes by performing the protein-protein interaction (PPI), Gene Ontology (GO), and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses. The differences in the expressions of hub genes between ACC and normal adrenal cortex were validated at the GEPIA2 website, and the association of these genes with the overall patient survival was also assessed. Finally, on the QuartataWeb website, drugs related to the identified hub genes were determined. A total of 114 DEGs, 10 hub genes, and 69 known drugs that could interact with these genes were identified. The GO and KEGG analyses revealed a close association of the identified DEGs with cellular signal transduction. The 10 hub genes identified were overexpressed in ACC, in addition to being significantly associated with adverse prognosis in ACC. Three genes and the associated known drugs were identified as potential targets for ACC treatment.

PURPOSE: To examine the natural history of splenic artery aneurysms (SAAs) at a single institution and assess the effect of patient factors and aneurysm characteristics on aneurysm growth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-center retrospective study included patients with SAAs who underwent serial imaging over 30 years (1990-2020). Data regarding patient demographics and aneurysm characteristics were collected. The variables contributing to aneurysm growth were assessed using nonparametric tests for continuous variables and chi-square test for categorical variables. Multivariable linear regression was performed using aneurysm growth rate as a continuous dependent variable. RESULTS: A total of 132 patients were included in this study. The median maximum diameter of the SAAs was 15.8 mm (range, 4.0-50.0 mm). Growth over time was observed in 39% of the aneurysms, whereas the remaining 61% were stable in size. Of aneurysms that increased in size, the median aneurysm growth rate was 0.60 mm/y (range, 0.03-5.00 mm/y). Maximum aneurysm diameter of >2 cm and the presence of >50% mural thrombus were significant positive predictors for aneurysm growth (P = .020 and P = .022, respectively). Greater than 50% rim calcification was a significant negative predictor for aneurysm growth (P = .009) in multivariate analysis. CONCLUSIONS: A larger baseline SAA size, presence of mural thrombus, and lack of rim calcification are associated with increased aneurysm growth rate.

Perovskites exhibit considerable potential as catalysts for various applications, yet their performance modulation in the carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) remains underexplored. In this study, we report a strategy to enhance the electrocatalytic carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction activity via Ce-doped La2CuO4 (LCCO) and Sr-doped La2CuO4 (LSCO) perovskite oxides. Specifically, compared to pure phase La2CuO4 (LCO), the Faraday efficiency (FE) for CH4 of LCCO at -1.4 V vs. RHE (reversible hydrogen electrode) is improved from 38.9% to 59.4%, and the FECO2RR of LSCO increased from 68.8% to 85.4%. In situ attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy spectra results indicate that the doping of A-site ions promotes the formation of *CHO and *HCOO, which are key intermediates in the production of CH4, compared to the pristine La2CuO4. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and double-layer capacitance (Cdl) outcomes reveal that heteroatom-doped perovskites exhibit more oxygen vacancies and higher electrochemical active surface areas, leading to a significant improvement in the CO2RR performance of the catalysts. This study systematically investigates the effect of A-site ion doping on the catalytic activity center Cu and proposes a strategy to improve the catalytic performance of perovskite oxides.

BACKGROUND: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a prevalent hereditary disease that can cause aberrant cholesterol metabolism. In this study, we confirmed that c.415G > A in low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), an FH-related gene, is a pathogenic variant in FH by in silico analysis and functional experiments. METHODS: The proband and his family were evaluated using the diagnostic criteria of the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network. Whole-exome and Sanger sequencing were used to explore and validate FH-related variants. In silico analyses were used to evaluate the pathogenicity of the candidate variant and its impact on protein stability. Molecular and biochemical methods were performed to examine the effects of the LDLR c.415G > A variant in vitro. RESULTS: Four of six participants had a diagnosis of FH. It was estimated that the LDLR c.415G > A variant in this family was likely pathogenic. Western blotting and qPCR suggested that LDLR c.415G > A does not affect protein expression. Functional studies showed that this variant may lead to dyslipidemia by impairing the binding and absorption of LDLR to low-density lipoprotein ( LDL). CONCLUSION: LDLR c.415G > A is a pathogenic variant in FH; it causes a significant reduction in LDLR's capacity to bind LDL, resulting in impaired LDL uptake. These findings expand the spectrum of variants associated with FH.

BACKGROUND: Endogenous endophthalmitis (EE) is a rare but highly destructive eye emergency secondary to systemic infection. Acute endophthalmitis can lead to irreversible vision impairment or even loss of the whole eye, unless being diagnosed and treated promptly. CASE PRESENTATION: This study reports three typical EE cases of endogenous endophthalmitis secondary to different severe systemic diseases. Patients were recruited from the Department of ophthalmology at Zhongnan hospital of Wuhan University and the Department of ophthalmology at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University. Patients were followed up for up to 60 days. Among these cases, the eye symptoms is the initial manifestations while secondary to original different special systemic conditions. Patients have been treated under dynamically prompt response undergoing systemic treatment and eye treatment at the same time. Best corrected visual acuity were 20/40, 20/60 and light perception during follow-up evaluation. CONCLUSIONS: Our observation suggest that prompt identification and treatment could save patients' vision from EE.

BACKGROUND: Many older adult patients receive low-dose teicoplanin with varied regimens, leading to a lack of clarity on its optimal regimens and toxicity profiles in China. This study aimed to clarify these aspects by analyzing teicoplanin treatment concentrations and toxicities. METHODS: We included older adult patients administered teicoplanin at four tertiary hospitals in Beijing from June 2021 to July 2023, targeting a trough concentration (Cmin) ≥ 10 mg/L. Teicoplanin concentrations and toxicities were monitored dynamically. RESULTS: From 204 patients, we obtained 632 teicoplanin concentrations. Most patients (83.3%) received low-dose regimens. Suboptimal concentrations were found in 66.4% of patients within 7 days of treatment and 17.0% after 15 days. Cmin gradually increased with treatment duration and was influenced initially by creatinine and by both body weight and creatinine from days 8 to 14. The target concentration was achieved in 53.1%, 33.9%, 15.6%, and 5.5% of patients at 3, ≤ 7, 8-14, and ≥ 15 days after withdrawal, respectively. Slow elimination was associated with average Cmin and eGFR. Nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and thrombocytopenia occurred in 12.5%, 4.1%, and 31.5% of patients, respectively, without significant differences between concentrations. CONCLUSIONS: Most older adult patients were underdosed, indicating a need for dose adjustment. Given the varied risk factors for suboptimal concentrations in different treatment stages, a one-size-fits-all regimen was ineffective. We recommend an initial dose of 400 mg at 12-h intervals for the first three days, with subsequent doses from days 4 to 14 adjusted based on creatinine and body weight; after day 14, a maintenance dose of 200 mg daily is advised. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR)-targeting drug could impact human meibomian gland. METHODS: We followed up with three patients who were using pemigatinib for 4 to 10 weeks. The patients were evaluated for their ocular surface disease index, best-corrected visual acuity, Schirmer test, cornea staining, meibum expressibility score, tear meniscus height, noninvasive tear film breakup time, and meibomian gland area. The distribution of the FGFR family, FGF7, and FGF10 were evaluated by immunofluorescence staining and Western blot in fresh tarsal tissues from deidentified patients who underwent lid plastic surgeries. RESULTS: All patients developed apparent meibomian gland atrophy, shortening and narrowing of ducts, and significantly increased meibum expressibility and decreased noninvasive tear film breakup time within 5 to 8 weeks. Laboratory evaluations confirmed that human meibomian gland expresses abundant fibroblast growth factor receptors. CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that meibomian gland is a target tissue of FGFR inhibitors, and patients who use these drugs may develop meibomian gland dysfunction.

Carbon and nitrogen play a fundamental role in the architecture of fungal biofilm morphology and metabolite production. However, the regulatory mechanism of nutrients remains to be fully understood. In this study, the formation of Beauveria bassiana biofilm and the production of (R)-2-(4-Hydroxyphenoxy)propanoic acid in two media with different carbon and nitrogen sources (GY: Glucose as a carbon source and yeast extract as a nitrogen source, MT: Mannitol as a carbon source and tryptone as a nitrogen source) were compared. R-HPPA production increased 2.85-fold in media MT than in media GY. Different fungal biofilm morphology and architecture were discovered in media GY and MT. Comparative transcriptomics revealed up-regulation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and polysaccharides degradation genes affecting mycelial morphology and polysaccharides yield of the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in MT medium biofilms. Upregulation of genes related to NADH synthesis (carbon metabolism, amino acid metabolism, glutamate cycle) causes NADH accumulation and triggers an increase in R-HPPA production. These data provide a valuable basis for future studies on regulating fungal biofilm morphology and improving the production of high-value compounds.

BACKGROUND: In China, nursing information systems (NIS) implementation can face numerous barriers to acceptance, including the attitudes of potential users. However, few studies have evaluated this acceptance. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explain the acceptance of NIS utilizing a survey based on unified theory of acceptance and use of technology. METHODS: A multi-center cross-sectional study utilizing an online survey was conducted. SPSS AMOS was used to conduct a structural equation modelling analysis. This research followed the STROBE Checklist. RESULTS: A total of 3973 Nurses participated in the study between January 2023 and March 2023. The acceptance of NIS among nurses was overall moderate to high. The proposed model has been rigorously tested and validated using empirical data, ensuring its credibility and dependability. Performance expectancy (PE), social influence (SI), and attitude significantly and positively affected intentions to use NIS. Effort expectancy (EE) did not show any significant effects in the sample. Facilitating conditions (FCs) was found to have a negative relationship with the intention to use NIS. There was a statistically significant difference BI between the different age groups, working years, and computer training experience. The model demonstrates a good fit with the observed data. CONCLUSIONS: This study identified PE, SI, and attitude as facilitators of nurses' intentions to use NIS. The findings about EE indicates that the ease of using NIS does not seem to be a concern among nurses. Moreover, high FC might be perceived as indicative of a complex system or extensive usage, that can lead to increased workload and reduced behavioural intention (BI). The significant differences in BI among various demographic groups highlight the need for more studies understanding the preferences and barriers faced by different, levels of experience and training backgrounds. Clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC), the most common subtype of renal cell carcinoma, has the high heterogeneity of a highly complex tumor microenvironment. Existing clinical intervention strategies, such as target therapy and immunotherapy, have failed to achieve good therapeutic effects. In this article, single-cell transcriptome sequencing (scRNA-seq) data from six patients downloaded from the GEO database were adopted to describe the tumor microenvironment (TME) of ccRCC, including its T cells, tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), endothelial cells (ECs), and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). Based on the differential typing of the TME, we identified tumor cell-specific regulatory programs that are mediated by three key transcription factors (TFs), whilst the TF EPAS1/HIF-2α was identified via drug virtual screening through our analysis of ccRCC's protein structure. Then, a combined deep graph neural network and machine learning algorithm were used to select anti-ccRCC compounds from bioactive compound libraries, including the FDA-approved drug library, natural product library, and human endogenous metabolite compound library. Finally, five compounds were obtained, including two FDA-approved drugs (flufenamic acid and fludarabine), one endogenous metabolite, one immunology/inflammation-related compound, and one inhibitor of DNA methyltransferase (N4-methylcytidine, a cytosine nucleoside analogue that, like zebularine, has the mechanism of inhibiting DNA methyltransferase). Based on the tumor microenvironment characteristics of ccRCC, five ccRCC-specific compounds were identified, which would give direction of the clinical treatment for ccRCC patients.

Zn deposition with a surface-preferred (002) crystal plane has attracted extensive attention due to its inhibited dendrite growth and side reactions. However, the nucleation and growth of the Zn(002) crystal plane are closely related to the interfacial properties. Herein, oriented growth of Zn(002) crystal plane is realized on Ag-modified surface that is directly visualized by in situ atomic force microscopy. A solid solution HCP-Zn (~1.10 at. % solubility of Ag, 30 °C) is formed on the Ag coated Zn foil (Zn@Ag) and possesses the same crystal structure as Zn to reduce its nucleation barrier caused by their lattice mismatch. It merits oriented Zn deposition and corrosion-resistant surface, and presents long cycling stability in symmetric cells and full cells coupled with V2O5 cathode. This work provides insights into interfacial regulation of Zn anodes for high-performance aqueous zinc metal batteries.

Anion-reinforced solvation structure favors the formation of inorganic-rich robust electrode-electrolyte interface, which endows fast ion transport and high strength modulus to enable improved electrochemical performance. However, such a unique solvation structure inevitably injures the ionic conductivity of electrolytes and limits the fast-charging performance. Herein, a trade-off in tuning anion-reinforced solvation structure and high ionic conductivity is realized by the entropy-assisted hybrid ester-ether electrolyte. Anion-reinforced solvation sheath with more anions occupying the inner Na+ shell is constructed by introducing the weakly coordinated ether tetrahydrofuran into the commonly used ester-based electrolyte, which merits the accelerated desolvation energy and gradient inorganic-rich electrode-electrolyte interface. The improved ionic conductivity is attributed to the weakly diverse solvation structures induced by entropy effect. These enable the enhanced rate performance and cycling stability of Prussian blue||hard carbon full cells with high electrode mass loading. More importantly, the practical application of the designed electrolyte was further demonstrated by industry-level 18650 cylindrical cells.

Previous studies have reported that visfatin can regulate macrophage polarisation, which has been demonstrated to participate in cardiac remodelling. The aims of this study were to investigate whether visfatin participates in transverse aortic constriction (TAC)-induced cardiac remodelling by regulating macrophage polarisation. First, TAC surgery and angiotensin II (Ang II) infusion were used to establish a mouse cardiac remodelling model, visfatin expression was measured, and the results showed that TAC surgery or Ang II infusion increased visfatin expression in the serum and heart in mice, and phenylephrine or hydrogen peroxide promoted the release of visfatin from macrophages in vitro. All these effects were dose-dependently reduced by superoxide dismutase. Second, visfatin was administered to TAC mice to observe the effects of visfatin on cardiac remodelling. We found that visfatin increased the cross-sectional area of cardiomyocytes, aggravated cardiac fibrosis, exacerbated cardiac dysfunction, further regulated macrophage polarisation and aggravated oxidative stress in TAC mice. Finally, macrophages were depleted in TAC mice to investigate whether macrophages mediate the regulatory effect of visfatin on cardiac remodelling, and the results showed that the aggravating effects of visfatin on oxidative stress and cardiac remodelling were abrogated. Our study suggests that visfatin enhances cardiac remodelling by promoting macrophage polarisation and enhancing oxidative stress. Visfatin may be a potential target for the prevention and treatment of clinical cardiac remodelling.
