RESUMO

As process nodes of advanced integrated circuits continue to decrease below 10 nm, the requirement for overlay accuracy is becoming stricter. The alignment sensor measures the position of the alignment mark relative to the wafer; thus, sub-nanometer alignment position accuracy is vital. The Phase Grating Alignment (PGA) method is widely used due to its high precision and stability. However, the alignment error caused by the mark asymmetry is the key obstacle preventing PGA technology from achieving sub-nanometer alignment accuracy. This error can be corrected using many methods, such as process verification and multi-channel weighted methods based on multi-diffraction, multi-wavelength and multi-polarization state alignment sensors. However, the mark asymmetry is unpredictable, complex and difficult to obtain in advance. In this case, the fixed-weight method cannot effectively reduce the alignment error. Therefore, an adaptive weighted method based on the error distribution characteristic of a multi-channel is proposed. Firstly, the simulation result proves that the error distribution characteristic of the multi-alignment result has a strong correlation with the mark asymmetry. Secondly, a concrete method of constructing weight values based on error distribution is described. We assume that the relationship between the weight value of each channel and the deviations of all channels' results is second-order linear. Finally, without other prior process correction in the simulation experiment, the residual error's Root Mean Square (RMS) of fixed weighted method is 14.0 nm, while the RMS of the adaptive weighted method is 0.01 nm, when dealing with five typical types of mark asymmetry. The adaptive weighted method exhibits a more stable error correction effect under unpredictable and complicated mark asymmetry.

Widespread concerns have been raised about the huge environmental burden caused by massive consumption of face masks in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, most of the existing studies only focus on the environmental impact associated with the product itself regardless of the actual usage scenarios and protective performance of products, resulting in unrealistic conclusions and poor applicability. In this context, this study integrated the product performance into the existing carbon footprint assessment methodology, with focus on the current global concerns regarding climate change. Computational case studies were conducted for different mask products applicable to the scenarios of low-, medium- and high-risk levels. The results showed that reusable cotton masks and disposable medical masks suitable for low-risk settings have a total carbon footprint of 285.484 kgCO2-eq/FU and 128.926 kgCO2-eq/FU respectively, with a break-even point of environmental performance between them of 16.886, which implies that cotton masks will reverse the trend and become more environmentally friendly after 17 washes, emphasizing the importance of improving the washability of cotton masks. Additionally, the total carbon footprints of disposable surgical masks and KN95 respirators were 154.328 kg CO2-eq/FU and 641.249 kg CO2-eq/FU respectively, while disposable medical masks and disposable surgical masks were identified as alternatives with better environmental performance in terms of medium- and high-risk environments respectively. The whole-life-cycle oriented carbon footprint evaluation further indicated that the four masks have greater potential for carbon emission reduction in the raw material processing and production processes. The results obtained in this study can provide scientific guidance for manufacturers and consumers on the production and use of protective masks. Moreover, the proposed model can be applied to other personal protective equipment with similar properties, such as protective clothing, in the future.

Metasurfaces presenting diversified functionalities have broadened the prospect of manipulating the phase, amplitude, and polarization from the optical to microwave fields. Although the frequency-multiplexing strategy is one of the intuitive and effective approaches to expand the number of channels, demonstrations reporting on the combination between directional asymmetric transmission and frequency-multiplexing via an ultrathin flat device are limited. In this study, a novel, to the best of our knowledge, strategy is proposed to generate four independent holographic images under opposite illumination directions at two operating frequencies, utilizing a single metasurface composed of two types of metallic resonators and one grating layer. Specifically, each scattering channel with independent information makes full use of the whole metasurface. Simulation and experimental results show good agreement, highlighting the attractive capabilities of the multi-functional metasurface platform, which provides more freedom for the manipulation of electromagnetic waves.

PURPOSES: To develop a nomogram model for distinguishing benign from malignant ampullary lesions more intuitive and accurate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 124 patients with periampullary lesions from January 2016 to June 2020 were enrolled in this retrospective study. Their clinical information, ultrasound (US), dual contrast-enhanced ultrasound (DCEUS) and MRI image features were used for research. Twenty features were collected in our study. Random forest was used to select the first five most important indicators to construct the prediction model. RESULTS: Patients' age, common bile duct (CBD) diameter, the shape, vascularity, and boundary of lesion, lesion size with or without enlarged after CEUS, the enhancement patterns of arterial phase, the washout patterns of venous phase, CEUS diagnosis, and MRI diagnosis were statistically significant (p < 0.05). After screening for statistically significant indicators by random forest, the first five most important indicators were age, CBD diameter, the enhancement patterns of arterial phase, the washout patterns of venous phase, lesion size with or without enlarged after CEUS, which were used to construct nomogram. The area under curves (AUC) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for nomogram, MRI + MRCP + DCEUS, DCEUS, MRI + MRCP were 0.98(0.94-1.00), 0.91(0.84-0.97), 0.89(0.80-0.98), 0.68(0.60-0.77), respectively. The sensitivity and specificity were 100.00% and 84.62% for nomogram, 88.29% and 92.31% for MRI + MRCP+DCEUS, 86.49% and 92.31% for DCEUS, 51.35%, and 100.00% for MRI + MRCP. CONCLUSIONS: We combined clinical indicators, gray-scale ultrasound characteristics, and CEUS characteristics to build the nomogram, which can be intuitively and accurately used for preoperative malignant prediction of ampullary lesion patients, worthy of clinical generalizability and application.

Many studies have explored how using a pneumatic tube system (PTS) is related to the hemolysis of blood samples, but their conclusions have been inconsistent. This meta-analysis was to clarify whether using a PTS induces the hemolysis of blood samples. The PubMed, Embase, Scopus, CNKI, CqVip, SinoMed and WanFang databases were searched for studies published between January 1970 and August 2019. The primary outcomes were the hemolysis rate and hemolysis index of blood samples after applying a PTS and manual transportation. We estimated the pooled risk ratio (RR) and the standardized mean difference (SMD), using random-effects models. This meta-analysis included 29 studies covering 3121 blood samples. No significant differences were found between the PTS and manual-transportation groups in the hemolysis rate [RR: 0.99, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.57 to 1.70], hemolysis index (SMD: 0.19, 95% CI: -0.00 to 0.38), or level of potassium (SMD: 0.05, 95% CI: -0.03 to 0.12), alanine aminotransferase (SMD: 0.00, 95% CI: -0.10 to 0.11), or aspartate aminotransferase (SMD: 0.04, 95% CI: -0.08 to 0.17). However, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level was significantly higher in the PTS group than in the manual-transportation group (SMD: 0.20, 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.34). Subgroup analysis revealed that the LDH level was clearly higher in the PTS group than in the manual-transportation group only when the PTS speed was ≥6 m/s or when the PTS distance was ≥250 m. According to this meta-analysis, PTSs were associated with alterations in LDH measurements, so it is sensible that each hospital validates and monitors their PTSs.

Resistant starch (RS) was recently approved to exert a powerful influence on gut health, but the effect of RS on the caecal barrier function in meat ducks has not been well defined. Thus, the effect of raw potato starch (RPS), a widely adopted RS material, on microbial composition and barrier function of caecum for meat ducks was determined. A total of 360 Cherry Valley male ducks of 1-d-old were randomly divided and fed diets with 0 (control), 12, or 24 % RPS for 35 d. Diets supplemented with RPS significantly elevated villus height and villus height:crypt depth ratio in the caecum. The 16S rRNA sequence analysis indicated that the diet with 12 % RPS had a higher relative abundance of Firmicutes and the butyrate-producing bacteria Faecalibacterium, Subdoligranulum, and Erysipelatoclostridium were enriched in all diets. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium were significantly increased in the 24 % RPS diet v. the control diet. When compared with the control diet, the diet with 12 % RPS was also found to notably increase acetate, propionate and butyrate contents and up-regulated barrier-related genes including claudin-1, zonula occludens-1, mucin-2 and proglucagon in the caecum. Furthermore, the addition of 12 % RPS significantly reduced plasma TNF-α, IL-1ß and endotoxin concentrations. These data revealed that diets supplemented with 12 % RPS partially improved caecal barrier function in meat ducks by enhancing intestinal morphology and barrier markers expression, modulating the microbiota composition and attenuating inflammatory markers.

Chest CT evaluation is often vital to determine patients suspected of COVID-19 pneumonia. The aim of this study was to determine the evolution of lung abnormalities evaluated by quantitative CT techniques in patients with COVID-19 infection from initial diagnosis to recovery. This retrospective study included 16 patients with COVID-19 infection from 30 January 2020 through 11 March 2020. Repeat chest CT examinations were obtained for three or more scans per patient. We measured total volume and mean CT value of lung lesions in each patient per scan, and then calculated the mass, which equals to volume × (CT value + 1000). Dynamic evolution of chest CT imaging as a function of time was fitted by non-linear regression model in terms of mass, volume and CT value, respectively. According to the fitting curves, we redefined the evolution of lung abnormalities: progressive stage (0-5 days), infection emerged and rapidly aggravated; peak stage (5-15 days), the greatest severity at approximate 7-8 days after onset; and absorption stage (15-30 days), the lesions slowly and gradually resolved.

BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) is a class of functional regulator of tumorigenesis of human cancer including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the potential clinical significance of serum exosomal miR-320d in HCC has not been elucidated. METHODS: Real-time reverse transcription PCR was used to detect the expression pattern of serum exosomal miR-320d in patients with HCC, and the correlation between the deregulation of serum exosomal miR-320d and the clinical outcome of HCC was explored. The biological function of exosomal miR-320d in HCC was also investigated. RESULTS: Our results showed that the expression levels of exosomal miR-320d were remarkably reduced in the serum samples of HCC patients and the culture medium of HCC cell lines compared with their respective controls. Serum exosomal miR-320d could differentiate the HCC patients from healthy controls with high accuracy. In addition, its level was remarkably increased in the HCC patients who had received surgical treatment. Moreover, reduced serum exosomal miR-320d was associated with advanced tumor stage, positive lymph node metastasis, and poorly differentiated tumors. HCC patients with lower serum exosomal miR-320d had shorter overall and disease-free survival. Low serum exosomal miR-320d was identified to be an independent unfavorable prognostic factor for HCC. Finally, overexpression of miR-320d inhibited the proliferation and invasion of HCC cells, and BMI1 was demonstrated to be a direct target of miR-320d. CONCLUSION: Taken together, serum exosomal miR-320d could be a potential non-invasive biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of HCC.

This research aims to evaluate the effects of maternal vitamin E (VE) dietary supplementation on the egg characteristics, hatchability and antioxidant status of the embryo and newly hatched chicks of prolonged storage eggs. A total of 576 75-week-old Ross 308 breeder hens were randomly allocated into three dietary VE treatments (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg) with 6 replicates of 32 hens, for a 12-week feeding trial. At week 12, a total of 710 eggs were collected over a 5-day period, and eggs per treatment were attributed into 5 replicates and stored for 14 days until incubation. The egg yolk, trunk and head of 7-day-old embryo and the serum, liver, brain and yolk sac of newly hatched chicks were sampled for the evaluation of antioxidant status. Results showed that as maternal dietary VE levels increased, yolk α-tocopherol concentration increased (p < .05). Compared with 100 mg/kg VE, the use of 200 and 400 mg/kg VE increased the hatchability of set/fertile eggs and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) of liver and serum in chicks (p < .05), and decreased both the early embryonic mortality and the malondialdehyde (MDA) content of trunk and head in 7-day-old embryos (p < .05); moreover, 400 mg/kg VE increased the yolk T-AOC (p < .05) and decreased yolk and brain MDA content of chicks (p < .05). Brain T-AOC of chicks in 200 mg/kg VE group was improved compared to that of chicks in 100 mg/kg VE group (p < .05). In conclusion, maternal dietary VE at 200 or 400 mg/kg could increase hatchability by decreasing early embryonic mortality and increasing the antioxidant status of egg yolk, embryo and newly hatched chicks as breeder egg storage was prolonged to 14-18 days. The suitable VE level for the broiler breeder diet was 200 mg/kg as breeder egg storage was prolonged.

A study was conducted to investigate the effects of oregano essential oil (EO) on growth performance, nutrients utilization, intestinal morphology, intestinal barrier-related gene expression and antioxidant capability in meat ducks. A total of 360 1-day-old ducks were divided into three groups (12 replicates pens per diet of 10 ducks in each pen): negative control (no essential oil or antibiotic), positive control (antibiotic: 500 mg/kg aureomycin of diet) and oregano EO (100 mg/kg of diet). The experiment was carried out for 35 days. Ducks were given feed and water ad libitum. Ducks fed EO supplement showed similar body weight and feed to gain ratio to antibiotic fed ducks. EO supplementation significantly increased (p < .05) feed intake (day 1-35), jejunal villus height (VH) to crypt depth (CD) ratio, serum superoxide dismutase activities (SOD) and jejunal total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) of ducks compared to controls. Ducks fed diets supplemented with oregano EO also had decreased (p < .05) jejunal CD, serum and hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration, and the mRNA expression of jejunal zonula occludens-3 (ZO-3) and secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) genes in comparison to the control group. Compared to the antibiotic supplementation group, the mRNA expression of claudin1 (CLND1) and CLND2 significantly increased (p < .05), but the mRNA expression of ZO-3 and mucin 2 markedly decreased (p < .05) in the jejunum of ducks in oregano EO supplementation group. These results suggest that oregano EO improves the antioxidant capacity and intestinal defence and structural measures and may aide in helping to maintain enteric health in production without growth-promoting antibiotics.

Structured illumination microscopy (SIM) is a rapidly developing a super-resolution optical microscopy technique. With SIM, the grating is needed in order to rotate several angles for illuminating the sample in different directions. Multiple rotations reduce the imaging speed and grating rotation angle errors damage the image recovery quality. We introduce mirror transformation on one-dimension (1D) Fourier spectrum to SIM for resolving the problems of low imaging speed and severe impact on image reconstruction quality by grating rotation angle errors. When mirror operation and SIM are combined, the grating is placed at an orientation for obtaining three shadow images. The three shadow images are acquired by CCD at three different phase shift for a direction of grating. Thus, the SIM imaging speed is faster and the effect on image reconstruction quality by grating rotation angle errors is greatly reduced.

This study investigated the relationship between endothelial pyroptosis and the occurrence of systemic inflammatory response (SIR) after radiofrequency (RF) ablation of hepatic hemangiomas. Thirty-two patients with hepatic hemangiomas were treated with RF ablation and blood samples of the patients were collected at different time points. Immunohistochemistry staining was performed to evaluate the expression of caspase-1, gasdermin D (GSDMD), IL-1ß and IL-18 in hepatic hemangioma and subablated hemangioma tissue. In vitro experiments, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated with sub-ablative hyperthermia with or without the addition of caspase-1 inhibitor, Ac-YVAD-CMK in the medium. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), IL-18, IL-1ß, caspase-1 and GSDMD were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, real-time PCR and Western blot methods. An elevation of general SIR parameters (CRP and WBC), pyroptosis-related inflammatory cytokines (IL-1ß and IL-18) and LDH were observed 1-day post-RF ablation and their peak values were significantly correlated with ablated volume (p < .001) and ablation time (p < .001). Moreover, levels of pyroptosis-related inflammatory cytokines correlated well with general SIR parameters, respectively (p < .001). Immunohistochemical analysis showed the increased expression of caspase-1, GSDMD, IL-18 and IL-1ß in the endothelial cells of subablated hemangioma. In vitro experiments showed that subablative hyperthermia induced the caspase-1-associated endothelial pyroptosis and Ac-YVAD-CMK attenuated pyroptosis. In conclusion, SIR in patients treated by RF ablation for hepatic hemangiomas was significantly associated with the ablated volume and ablation time and endothelial pyroptosis may involve in the occurrence of SIR following RF ablation of hepatic hemangiomas.

In brain functional diffuse optical tomography, conventional indirect approaches first separately reconstruct the spatial changes in the absorption coefficients at every time point and then calculate the spatial excited levels in terms of hemodynamic models. Direct approaches combine the two steps necessary in the indirect approaches and obtain the spatial excited levels directly. Although reconstruction quality has been improved by the direct approaches to some extent, they still lack sharp edges and suffer from low spatial resolution because of the ill-posedness of the inverse problems. In this paper, a priori sparsity is introduced to obtain the sparse solutions and further improve reconstruction quality. Simulation experiments are conducted to illustrate the expected performance improvements of the proposed approaches.

The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary vitamin level on sternum growth, calcification and carcass traits in meat duck. A total of 432 1-d-old mixed-sex Cherry Valley ducks (216 males and 216 females) were randomly allocated and fed low-vitamin level diet (70% NRC vitamin regimen), high-vitamin level diet (DSM vitamin regimen) or medium-vitamin level diet (50% low-vitamin level diet and 50% high-vitamin level diet). Sternum and serum were harvested after 49 d of feeding. Compared with the low-vitamin level group, dietary high-vitamin level increased body weight (BW) at d 49 (p = 0.029) but did not alter all parameters of carcass trait (p > 0.05). Medium- and high-vitamin level increased sternum defatted weight, density, ash and calcium (Ca) concentration (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the medium and high-vitamin level group significantly decreased the relative proportions of the keel cartilage at 49 d (p < 0.05) and decreased the sternum length and height (p < 0.05) in meat ducks at 49 d. Likewise, high-vitamin level improved serum Ca and phosphate (P) content (p < 0.05) and declined serum Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity (p = 0.003) compared with the low-vitamin level group. Our study indicates that high-vitamin level did not affect the examined carcass traits; however, high-vitamin level improved growth performance and sternum calcification.

This study investigated whether dietary vitamin E (VE) supplementation could alleviate any detrimental effects of ageing corn in the diet for laying hens on egg performance, egg quality, serum biochemical parameters, cholesterol content and the fatty acid (FA) profile of egg yolks. The experiment consisted of a 2 × 3 factorial design with two corn types (normal corn and ageing corn) and three concentrations of VE (0, 20 and 100 IU/kg). A total of 216 Lohmann laying hens (50-week-old) were randomly allocated into six treatment diets for 12 week. Each treatment had six replicates with six hens. The results showed that ageing corn significantly reduced average daily feed intake (ADFI; p < 0.01) and egg weight (p < 0.05). Dietary VE supplementation had no significant influences on egg production performance (p > 0.05). Egg yolk colour was decreased in ageing corn diets (p < 0.01), while 20 and 100 IU/kg VE significantly improved vitelline membrane strength (p < 0.01) compared with feeding of 0 IU/kg VE. Ageing corn also significantly decreased the content of cholesterol including total cholesterol (TC; p < 0.05), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C; p < 0.01) and very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C; p < 0.05) in the serum. Feeding 100 IU/kg VE significantly increased the content of LDL-C (p < 0.01) and VLDL-C (p < 0.05) in the serum. Furthermore, the content of the oleic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and total monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) was lower (p < 0.05) and stearic acid and total saturated fatty acid (SFA) was higher (p < 0.05) in egg yolks in ageing corn diets. Ageing corn resulted in reduced feed intake, egg weights and yolk colour, but the effects of VE supplementation were independent of those of age of corn and were unable to counteract the negative effects of feeding ageing corn.

The experiment was conducted to investigate the bioavailability of manganese (Mn) from humate-Mn complex relative to Mn sulphate for the starter broilers fed a conventional corn-soya bean meal diet. A total of 560 1-day-old Arbor Acres male broiler chicks were randomly allotted to one of eight replicate cages (10 chicks per cage) for each of seven treatments in a completely randomized design involving a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement of treatments with two Mn sources (humate-Mn and Mn sulphate) and three levels of added Mn (60, 120 or 180 mg Mn/kg) plus a Mn-unsupplemented control diet containing 27.23 mg Mn/kg by analysis. At 14 days of age, the blood, liver, heart and tibia were collected for Mn analyses, and the activity and mRNA abundance of heart manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD). The results showed that humate-Mn supplementation decreased feed intake from day 1 to day 14, whereas it did not influence (p > 0.20) body weight at day 14 as compared to Mn sulphate. The Mn source did not influence Mn concentration in the liver, heart and tibia, and the activity and mRNA abundance of heart MnSOD, while humate-Mn decreased plasma Mn as compared to Mn sulphate. The Mn concentration in the plasma and heart, and the activity and mRNA abundance of heart MnSOD increased linearly as dietary Mn concentration increased. Based on slope ratios from multiple linear regressions of Mn concentrations in the plasma and heart, and the activity and mRNA abundance of heart MnSOD on daily intake amount of dietary analysed Mn, the bioavailability of humate-Mn complex relative to Mn sulphate (100%) was 82.8, 90.4, 82.8 and 81.9 respectively. These results indicated that the Mn from humate-Mn complex was just as bioavailable as the Mn from Mn sulphate for the starter broilers (day 1-14).

OBJECTIVE: An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary non-phytate phosphorus (nPP) deficiency on intestinal pH value, digestive enzyme activity, morphology, nutrient utilization, and gene expression of NaPi-IIb in meat ducks from 1 to 21 d of age. METHODS: 525 one-d-old Cherry Valley ducklings were fed diets (with 7 pens of 15 ducklings, or 105 total ducklings, on each diet) with five levels of nPP (0.22, 0.34, 0.40, 0.46 or 0.58%) for 21 d in a completely randomized design. Five experimental diets contained a constant calcium (Ca) content of approximately 0.9%. Body weight (BW), body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), and feed to gain ratio (F: G) were measured at 14 and 21 d of age. Ducks were sampled for duodenum and jejunum digestion and absorption function on 14 and 21 d. Nutrient utilization was assessed using 25- to 27-d-old ducks. RESULTS: The results showed ducks fed 0.22% nPP had lower (P&lt;0.05) growth performance and nutrient utilization and higher (P&lt;0.05) serum Ca content and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. When dietary nPP levels were increased, BW(d 14 and 21), BWG and FI (all intervals), and the serum phosphorus (P) content linearly and quadratically increased (P&lt;0.05); and the jejunal pH value (d 14), duodenal muscle layer thickness (d 14), excreta dry matter, crude protein, energy, Ca and total P utilization linearly increased (P&lt;0.05); however, the serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, jejunal Na+-K+-ATPase activity, and duodenal NaPi-IIb mRNA level (d 21) linearly decreased (P&lt;0.05). CONCLUSION: The results indicated that ducks aged from 1 to 21d fed diets with 0.22% nPP had poor growth performance related to poor intestinal digestion and absorption ability; but when fed diets with 0.40%, 0.46% and 0.58% nPP, ducks presented a better growth performance, intestinal digestion and absorption function.

Computerized clinical decision support systems can help to provide objective, standardized, and timely dementia diagnosis. However, current computerized systems are mainly based on group analysis, discrete classification of disease stages, or expensive and not readily accessible biomarkers, while current clinical practice relies relatively heavily on cognitive and functional assessments (CFA). In this study, we developed a computational framework using a suite of machine learning tools for identifying key markers in predicting the severity of Alzheimer's disease (AD) from a large set of biological and clinical measures. Six machine learning approaches, namely Kernel Ridge Regression (KRR), Support Vector Regression, and k-Nearest Neighbor for regression and Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest, and k-Nearest Neighbor for classification, were used for the development of predictive models. We demonstrated high predictive power of CFA. Predictive performance of models incorporating CFA was shown to consistently have higher accuracy than those based solely on biomarker modalities. We found that KRR and SVM were the best performing regression and classification methods respectively. The optimal SVM performance was observed for a set of four CFA test scores (FAQ, ADAS13, MoCA, MMSE) with multi-class classification accuracy of 83.0%, 95%CI = (72.1%, 93.8%) while the best performance of the KRR model was reported with combined CFA and MRI neuroimaging data, i.e., R 2 = 0.874, 95%CI = (0.827, 0.922). Given the high predictive power of CFA and their widespread use in clinical practice, we then designed a data-driven and self-adaptive computerized clinical decision support system (CDSS) prototype for evaluating the severity of AD of an individual on a continuous spectrum. The system implemented an automated computational approach for data pre-processing, modelling, and validation and used exclusively the scores of selected cognitive measures as data entries. Taken together, we have developed an objective and practical CDSS to aid AD diagnosis.

Both genetic selection and increasing nutrient density for improving growth performance had inadvertently increased leg problems of meat ducks, which adversely affects animal welfare. We hypothesised that slowing weight gain with improving tibia quality probably enhanced tibial mechanical properties and alleviated leg deformities. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of graded Ca supplementation in a low-nutrient density (LND) diet on tibia composition and bone turnover in meat ducks. A total of 720 15-d-old male meat ducks were randomly assigned and fed a standard nutrient density positive control (PC) diet containing 0·9 % Ca, and four LND diets with 0·5, 0·7, 0·9 and 1·1 % Ca, respectively. Ducks fed the 0·5 % Ca LND diet and the PC diet had higher incidence of tibial dyschondroplasia (TD). When compared with the 0·5 % Ca LND diet, LND diets with ≥0·7 % Ca significantly improved tibia composition, microarchitecture and mechanical properties, and consequently decreased the incidence of TD. Furthermore, LND diets with ≥0·7 % Ca increased osteocyte-specific gene mRNA expression, blocked the expression of osteoblast differentiation marker genes including osteocalcin, collagenase-1 and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and also decreased the expression of osteoclast differentiation genes, such as vacuolar-type H+-ATPase, cathepsin K and receptor activator of NF-κB. Meanwhile bone markers such as serum ALP, osteocalcin (both osteoblast markers) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (an osteoclast marker) were significantly decreased in at least 0·7 % Ca treated groups. These findings indicated that LND diets with ≥0·7 % Ca decreased bone turnover, which subsequently increased tibia quality for 35-d-old meat ducks.

Oxidative stress and miRNAs have been confirmed to play an important role in neurological diseases. The study aimed to explore the underlying effect and mechanisms of miR-146a in H2O2-induced injury of PC12 cells. Here, PC12 cells were stimulated with 200 µM of H2O2 to construct oxidative injury model. Cell injury was evaluated on the basis of the changes in cell viability, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and DNA damage. Results revealed that miR-146a expression was up-regulated in H2O2-induced PC12 cells. Functional analysis showed that down-regulation of miR-146a alleviated H2O2-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells. Dual-luciferase reporter and western blot assay verified that MCL1 was a direct target gene of miR-146a. Moreover, anti-miR-146a-mediated suppression on cell cytotoxicity was abated following MCL1 knockdown in H2O2-induced PC12 cells. Furthermore, MCL1 activated JAK/STAT signaling pathway and MCL1 overexpression attenuated H2O2-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells by JAK/STAT signaling pathway. In conclusion, this study suggested that suppression of miR-146a abated H2O2-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells via regulating MCL1/JAK/STAT pathway.
