[Turpentine baths in rehabilitation of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].

We have investigated effects of turpentine baths with white emultion, yellow solution and mixed on the course of inflammation, immunocompetent system, external respiration function, pulmonary cardiohemodynamics, physical performance in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We developed differential indications for each bath variant depending on the features of a clinical picture of the disease, comorbid pathology and revealed contraindications to their administration.

[Transcerebral exposure to sinusoidal modulated currents in bronchial asthma patients]. / Transtserebral'noe vozdeistvie sinusoidal'nymi modulirovannymi tokami u bol'nykh bronkhial'noi astmoi.

Clinical examination of 85 patients with bronchial asthma (BA) revealed thyroid affection proved by ultrasonic and/or hormone profile investigation in 42(49%) patients. Transcerebral treatment with sinusoidal modulated currents gave rise to positive trends in external respiration, clinical and biochemical blood indices, immunity status which appeared more pronounced in BA patients without the endocrine disorder.

[The use of sodium chloride baths in patients with chronic bronchitis]. / Primenenie khloridnykh natrievykh vann u bol'nykh khronicheskim bronkhitom.

80 patients with chronic bronchitis took baths with sodium chloride concentration 20, 40, 60 g/l and temperature 37-38 degrees C. The baths produced a positive effect on central and regional hemodynamics, reduced inflammation and sensitization.

Chronic bronchitis with obstructive syndrome was treated in 91 patients with contrast baths. The latter produced good results in 80.3% of the patients. This treatment is analysed as to clinical efficacy, the effect on the external respiration, right heart hemodynamics, inflammation activity, changes in immunity system. Principal contraindications are defined. A differential approach to contrast baths in chronic bronchitis after treatment is advocated.

[The function of the bronchial system in patients with rheumatoid arthritis]. / Sostoianie bronkhial'noi sistemy u bol'nykh revmatoidnym artritom.

The authors studied the functional indices of the bronchopulmonary system in 23 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The vital capacity of the lungs (VCL), indices of bronchial patency: relation of the forced exhalation volume during the 1st second to VCL (FEV/VCL), the rate of the air flow of the forced exhalation when recording the curve the flow-volume (FEV)--peak (Vpeak), the rate in decreasing lung volumes, in 25, 50 and 75% of the whole volume of the forced exhalation (V25, V50, V75). VCL was not decreased in any of the cases, FEV1/VCL comprised 80.04 +/- 44%, Vpeak--110.30 +/- 3.30% of the norm. On the basis of these data a conclusion was made that the patency of the major bronchi was normal. V75 was decreased in 13 out of 23 patients; on the average it comprised 73.78 +/- 4.96% of the norm that significantly differs from the results obtained in healthy individuals (87.1 +/- 1.96 of the norm). An isolated decrease in terminal rates of FEV indicates the reduction of the patency of the minor respiratory ducts. A decrease in V75 was observed more often and was the more marked the longer the duration of the disease. There are no distinct connections between the pathological changes in the minor bronchi condition and the indices of the activity of the inflammatory process and humoral immunity: ESR the level of total protein, alpha 2-globulins, gamma-globulins, rheumatoid factor, circulating immune complexes.
