RESUMO
Sinonasal papilloma is a benign tumor, derived from Schneiderian sinonasal epithelium. There have been described three histological subtypes: inverted, oncocytic and exophytic. The case presented here is A 66-year-old male patient, which was hospitalized in our Otolaryngology Department for a giant tumor, that was exteriorized from the left nostril, repeated epistaxis, nasal obstruction and anosmia. The computed tomography scan revealed an iodophilic and non-homogeneous tumor, with areas of necrosis, which included the entire left nasal cavity, with extension to the rhinopharynx and the left maxillary sinus. We completely removed the tumor by an endoscopic medial maxillectomy, with the subsequent histopathological examination revealing an inverted papilloma, with areas of low grade dysplasia and also areas with oncocytic Schneiderian papilloma. At the six-months postoperative control, there was no tumor recurrence. Major issues of this type of tumor is fast invasion capacity and numerous local recurrence. More recent studies have shown that these relapses are often overdue tumors.
RESUMO
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a clinical syndrome characterised by a slow progressive decline in expiratory airflow [1], a process that has gradually developed over the years. Studies of patients with COPD show an inflammatory process in the small airways [2]. The aim of this paper is to identify the cytopathological aspects of the liquids present in the bronchoalveolar lavage in patients with COPD. We were performed a descriptive analytical case-control and prospective study on forty patients with COPD and ten asymptomatic smokers (healthy smokers or patients at risk). The percentage of marcophage, the type of the dominant inflamatory cell, in the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) liquid was significantly higher at patients with mild and moderate COPD as compared to patients with severe and very severe COPD. In the present work, the percentage of the neutrophil in the BAL liquid was significantly higher at patients with severe and very severe COPD, as compared to the patients with mild and moderate COPD and to aparently healthy smokers. In conclusion, we can say that COPD is characterized by an inflammatory process located in the small airways with predominant participation of macrophages, the procentage of macrophages in BAL fluid variyng inversely proportional to the severity of the disease.
RESUMO
The basaloid carcinoma is a rare and distinct type of squamous carcinoma. Of all the squamous carcinomas, the basaloid tumor is noted for its high aggressivity and fast replication rate. It is usually discovered within the upper levels of the larynx (supraglottis), the tongue base or the piriform sinuses in male patients ranging from sixty to eighty years old. The aggressivity of the tumor also means its discovery is usually a late event thus associating a relatively low survival rate within the first 5 years. The current paper presents the case of a patient diagnosed with a malign tumor of the larynx which is then identified as being a squamous basaloid carcinoma. The medical review of the patient reveals a long history of smoking and also pulmonary tuberculosis, for which the patient underwent left pneumonectomy.
RESUMO
The present paper was designed to the study of the degree of sensitivity of mosquitoes, flies, bedbugs and cockroaches to organochloride and organophosphoric insecticides produced in Romania. Testing of the sensitivity to insecticides of these species, important as transmitters of human pathogens, showed the effectiveness of the products, which induced a high mortality rate in relatively small concentrations. Against Anopheles labranchiae atroparvus, the insecticides Detox, Carbetox and Lindatox proved efficient in concentrations of 1.0%, 0.5% and 1.0% respectively. Against Musca domestica Lindatox and Detox proved efficient in 1.0% concentration. Cimex lectularius responded with a mortality rate of 100% to 0.5% Lindatox, 1.5% Plotox and 1.0% Dipterex. Against Blattela germanica, 100% mortality was obtained after one hour exposure to Lindatox, Detox and Carbetox in 1.0% concentration, to 3.3% Plotox and 1% Piretrin.

In the 1976-1980 period biological and ecologic investigations were carried out on the Anopheles fauna in the former endemic malarial areas in the Danube plains and the Dobrogea. Due to the changes in the ecology of the region new aspects were observed among this fauna: 1) reduced anopheles density as compared to previous years; 2) change in the proportion of the Anopheles species; 3) resistance of the Anopheles to organochloride insecticides and sensitivity to organophosphoric and carbamate insecticides. The authors recommend the use of the Ficam W insecticide in doses of 0.3 g active substance per square meter for disinfestation against mosquitoes in houses.
