RESUMO

Nano NH2-reduced graphene oxide (NGO) and NGO/epoxy resin coatings were prepared, respectively. NGO/epoxy coating was successfully coated on magnesium alloy substrates. X-ray diffraction patterns, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy techniques were used to characterize the composition and morphology of NGO and composite coatings. The effect of the content of NGO on the corrosion protection performance of coatings was evaluated with electrochemical measurements in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solutions. Tafel and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis revealed that an optimal addition amount of 0.3 wt.% NGO provided the superior corrosion protection properties. The composite coatings exhibited outstanding barrier properties against aggressive species compared to pure epoxy coating. The self-curing reaction of amine and epoxy radicals could produce the compact cross-linking reticular structure. This self-curing reaction was a nucleophilic addition, and amine radical preferred to bond the (b) site of graphene sheets due to the lowest Gibbs free energy. The cross-linking structure and some polar groups could act as a good reservoir for corrosive medium via absorption and fixation.

RESUMO

Although solar steam generation is promising for seawater desalination, it is less effective in purifying wastewater with both salt/heavy metal ions and organic contaminants. It is thus imperative to develop multifunctional integrated solar-driven water purification systems with high solar-thermal evaporation and photocatalytic degradation efficiencies. Herein, a lamellar reduced graphene oxide (L-RGO) foam with the vertical lamellar structure is fabricated by bidirectional-freezing, lyophilization, and slight chemical reduction for water purification. The unique vertical lamellar structure not only accelerates upward transport of water for facilitating water evaporation but also endows the L-RGO foam with superb high elasticity for tuning the interlayer distance and varying interactions between the oxygen-containing groups and water molecules to adjust water energy state. As a result, the L-RGO foam achieves a superb water evaporation rate of 2.40 kg m-2 h-1 along with an energy efficiency of 95.3 % under the compressive strain of 44.7 % under 1-sun irradiation. Equally importantly, the decoration of L-RGO foam with polypyrrole is capable of efficiently degrading organic pollutants while retaining high solar steam generation performances, exhibiting great potential in the comprehensive treatment of various water sources for relieving freshwater crisis.

RESUMO

Polymer electrolytes (PEs) with excellent flexibility and superior compatibility toward lithium (Li) metal anodes have been deemed as one of the most promising alternatives to liquid electrolytes. However, conventional lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI)-based dual-ion PEs suffer from a low Li ion transference number and notorious Li dendrite growth. Here, a single-ion conducting polyborate salt without any fluorinated groups, polymeric lithium dihydroxyterephthalic acid borate (PLDPB), is presented for addressing the issues of Li metal batteries. Owing to a nearly immovable bulky anion and the presence of a rigid benzene structure, the PLDPB@poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) PE exhibits an ultrahigh Li ion transference number (0.94) and excellent mechanical strength, which could significantly restrict the growth of Li dendrites. Postmortem analysis reveals that a fluorine-free solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) enriched with B-O and benzene-containing species is formed on the surface of the Li metal anode, thereby facilitating elimination of excessive parasitic reactions and simultaneously suppressing the formation of Li dendrites. Consequently, the LiFePO4/Li cells with PLDPB@PEO PEs show an improved long-term cycling performance and high capacity retention (90.0%) and Coulombic efficiency (99.9%) after 500 cycles. This work may inspire new ideas to boost the development of single-ion conducting salts for dendrite-free Li metal batteries.

RESUMO

Oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common type of carcinoma. Hypoxia is associated with chemo- and radio-resistance, which may lead to a poor prognosis. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) is the main transcriptional regulator of the cellular response to low oxygen levels. Moreover, it can trigger the expression of critical genes, including glucose transporter protein type 1 (GLUT1). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the roles of HIF-1α and GLUT1 in ESCC and their usefulness as prognostic markers. HIF-1α and GLUT1 were measured in four ESCC cell lines, namely Eca109, KYSE150, TE-1 and TE-10, by western blotting following culture under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. In addition, xenograft tumors were established in mice using normoxic and hypoxic Eca109 cells and the chemosensitivity of the xenografts to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) was evaluated. Furthermore, HIF-1α and GLUT1 were analysed by immunochemistry in the tumor tissues of patients with ESCC and the associations of their expression levels with clinicopathological parameters were investigated. The results revealed that HIF-1α and GLUT1 protein expression was weak in all four cell lines under a normoxic atmosphere but increased following culture in a hypoxic environment. In vivo, 5-FU inhibited tumor growth more strongly in normoxic Eca109 ×enografts than hypoxic Eca109 ×enografts. Higher levels of apoptosis were also detected in the normoxic Eca109 ×enografts via western blotting and TUNEL analysis. In patients with ESCC, HIF-1α expression was associated with advanced ESCC while GLUT1 expression was associated with the sex of the patients. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that HIF-1α and GLUT1 were negatively associated with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Additionally, a combination of HIF-1α and GLUT1 expression was a predictor of RFS and OS in patients with ESCC without lymph node metastasis but not those with lymph node metastasis. The study demonstrated that HIF-1α and GLUT1 were strongly expressed in vitro and in xenograft models when cells were exposed to hypoxia. The simultaneous high expression of HIF-1α and GLUT1 was associated with poorer survival, and may play an important role in ESCC chemoresistance and the prognosis of ESCC.

RESUMO

To prolong the service life of flexible electronic materials, polymeric matrixes with excellent self-healing capability and integrated mechanical properties are highly desirable, but the balance between the self-healing capability and mechanical properties is a grand challenge. Here, polyrotaxanes as sliding crosslinkers and dynamic disulfide bonds are incorporated into the main chains of polyurethane (PU) via one-pot synthesis, which endows the PU with polydisperse hard/soft segments, high density of self-healing points and energy dissipation. Based on this judicious molecular design, the PU elastomers exhibit exceptional mechanical properties, such as high stretchability (1167 % with a tensile strength of 3.49 MPa), high fracture energy (20,775 J m-2) and high puncture energy (200.70 mJ). Moreover, due to the presence of dynamic reversible hydrogen and disulfide bonds, the elastomer could achieve stress and strain repair efficiencies of 93.98 % and 99.21 % at 100 ℃ within 1 h, respectively. The above-mentioned superiorities enable the bioinspired strain sensors to possess a large sensing range (∼596 %), high sensitivity (∼79.98), short response time (∼128 ms), along with excellent reliability and self-healing ability. Besides, the strain sensor exhibits remarkable recyclability and prominent reprocessability, which nicely solves the pollution by discarded electronics.

RESUMO

Antibiotics are widely added to swine forage and are the main reason for the environmental accumulation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in swine manure-dwelling microorganisms. Aerobic composting (AC) and anaerobic digestion (AD) are efficient methods for converting swine manure to bio-fertilizer while degrading residual antibiotics. However, the influence of these methods on ARG accumulation and the difference in their efficiency have rarely been investigated. In this study, we explored the variations in four tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) and their associated ARGs and in microbial communities after AC and AD treatment. After full-scale manure AC and AD, the four TCs were removed effectively. AD had a higher TC removal efficiency than AC and a slower rate of TC-associated ARG accumulation. In addition, the community structure was more stable in the AC and AD manures than in untreated manure, and the relationship among microbial species also evolved into competition from mutualism after both AC and AD treatment. It was also speculated that the genera Acholeplasma and Arthrobacter were the possible hosts of tetO, tetW, and tetQ; the shift in the prokaryotic community composition and the alleviation of selective pressure by TC degradation led to decreased relative abundance of ARGs in AD- and AC-treated manure.

RESUMO

The phyllosphere is colonized by a wide variety of microorganisms including epiphytes, plant-pathogenic fungus, bacteria, as well as human or animal pathogens. However, little is known about how microbial community composition changes with the development of angular leaf-spot of cucumber. Here, 18 mixed samples were collected based on the lesion coverage rate (LCR) of angular leaf-spot of cucumber from three disease severity groups (DM1: symptomatic-mild, DM2: symptomatic-moderate, DM3: symptomatic-severe). In our study, the microbial community structure and diversity were examined by Illumina MiSeq sequencing. A significant differences was observed in α diversity and community structure among three disease severity groups. The phyllosphere microbiota was observed to be dominated by bacterial populations from Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Firmicutes, as well as fungal species from Ascomycota and Basidiomycota. In addition, some plant-specific microbe such as Sphingomonas, Methylobacterium, Pseudomonas, and Alternaria showed significant changes in their relative abundance of population. The LCR was correlated negatively with Sphingomonas, Methylobacterium, Quadrisphaera, and Lactobacillus, whereas correlated positively with Pseudomonas and Kineococcus (p < 0.05). The LCR was negatively correlated with Alternaria and Arthrinium of the fungal communities (p < 0.05). Molecular ecological networks of the microbial communities were constructed to show the interactions among the OTUs. Our current results indicated that the competitive relationships among species were broken with the development of angular leaf-spot of cucumber. The microbial community composition changed over the development of angular leaf-spot of cucumber. The result of molecular ecological networks indicated that the overall bacterial community tends toward mutualism from the competition. The development of angular leaf-spot of cucumber affected the ecosystem functioning by disrupting the stability of the microbial community network. This work will help us to understand the host plant-specific microbial community structures and shows how these communities change throughout the development of angular leaf-spot of cucumber.
