RESUMO

Degeneracy and symmetry have a profound relation in quantum systems. Here, we report gate-tunable subband degeneracy in PbTe nanowires with a nearly symmetric cross-sectional shape. The degeneracy is revealed in electron transport by the absence of a quantized plateau. Utilizing a dual gate design, we can apply an electric field to lift the degeneracy, reflected as emergence of the plateau. This degeneracy and its tunable lifting were challenging to observe in previous nanowire experiments, possibly due to disorder. Numerical simulations can qualitatively capture our observation, shedding light on device parameters for future applications.

RESUMO

Efforts to design devices emulating complex cognitive abilities and response processes of biological systems have long been a coveted goal. Recent advancements in flexible electronics, mirroring human tissue's mechanical properties, hold significant promise. Artificial neuron devices, hinging on flexible artificial synapses, bioinspired sensors, and actuators, are meticulously engineered to mimic the biological systems. However, this field is in its infancy, requiring substantial groundwork to achieve autonomous systems with intelligent feedback, adaptability, and tangible problem-solving capabilities. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in artificial neuron devices. It starts with fundamental principles of artificial synaptic devices and explores artificial sensory systems, integrating artificial synapses and bioinspired sensors to replicate all five human senses. A systematic presentation of artificial nervous systems follows, designed to emulate fundamental human nervous system functions. The review also discusses potential applications and outlines existing challenges, offering insights into future prospects. We aim for this review to illuminate the burgeoning field of artificial neuron devices, inspiring further innovation in this captivating area of research.

Cell spreading is an initial and critical step in neutrophil adhesion and migration, leading to neutrophil recruitment to inflammatory tissues. Sideroflexin (Sfxn) family proteins are metabolite transporters located in the mitochondrial membrane. Recombinant SFXN5 protein is a citrate transporter in vitro; however, whether Sfxn5 regulates any cellular behavior or function remains unknown. In this study, we found that small interfering RNA transfection or morpholino injection achieving Sfxn5 deficiency in neutrophils significantly decreased neutrophil recruitment in mice and zebrafish, respectively. Sfxn5 deficiency impaired neutrophil spreading and spreading-associated cellular phenotypes, such as cell adhesion, chemotaxis, and ROS production. Actin polymerization is critical for neutrophil spreading, and we found that actin polymerization in spreading neutrophils was partially inhibited by Sfxn5 deficiency. Mechanistically, we observed that the levels of cytosolic citrate and its downstream metabolic products, acetyl-CoA and cholesterol, were decreased in Sfxn5-deficient neutrophils. The levels of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2), a mediator for the regulation of actin polymerization by cholesterol, were reduced in the plasma membrane of Sfxn5-deficient neutrophils. Exogenous supplementation with citrate or cholesterol partially reversed the reduction in PI(4,5)P2 levels, defective neutrophil actin polymerization, and cell spreading. Altogether, we demonstrated that Sfxn5 maintains cytosolic citrate levels and ensures the synthesis of sufficient cholesterol to promote actin polymerization in a PI(4,5)P2-dependent manner during neutrophil spreading, which is essential for the eventual inflammatory recruitment of neutrophils. Our study revealed the importance of Sfxn5 in neutrophil spreading and migration, thus identifying, to our knowledge, for the first time, the physiological cellular functions of the Sfxn5 gene.

Recently discovered as an intrinsic antiferromagnetic topological insulator, MnBi2Te4 has attracted tremendous research interest, as it provides an ideal platform to explore the interplay between topological and magnetic orders. MnBi2Te4 displays distinct exotic topological phases that are inextricably linked to the different magnetic structures of the material. In this study, we conducted electrical transport measurements and systematically investigated the anomalous Hall response of epitaxial MnBi2Te4 films when subjected to an external magnetic field sweep, revealing the different magnetic structures stemming from the interplay of applied fields and the material's intrinsic antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering. Our results demonstrate that the nonsquare anomalous Hall loop is a consequence of the distinct reversal processes within individual septuple layers. These findings shed light on the intricate magnetic structures in MnBi2Te4 and related materials, offering insights into understanding their transport properties and facilitating the implementation of AFM topological electronics.

Planar Josephson junctions are predicted to host Majorana zero modes. The material platforms in previous studies are two-dimensional electron gases (InAs, InSb, InAsSb, and HgTe) coupled to a superconductor such as Al or Nb. Here, we introduce a new material platform for planar JJs, the PbTe-Pb hybrid. The semiconductor, PbTe, was grown as a thin film via selective area epitaxy. The Josephson junction was defined by a shadow wall during the deposition of superconductor Pb. Scanning transmission electron microscopy reveals a sharp semiconductor-superconductor interface. Gate-tunable supercurrents and multiple Andreev reflections are observed. A perpendicular magnetic field causes interference patterns of the switching current, exhibiting Fraunhofer-like and SQUID-like behaviors. We further demonstrate a prototype device for Majorana detection wherein phase bias and tunneling spectroscopy are applicable.

Limited knowledge of bird microbiome in the all-body niche hinders our understanding of host-microbial relationships and animal health. Here, we characterized the microbial composition of the crested ibis from 13 body sites, representing the cloaca, oral, feather and skin habitats, and explored assembly mechanism structuring the bacterial community of the four habitats respectively. The bacterial community characteristics were distinct among the four habitats. The skin harboured the highest alpha diversity and most diverse functions, followed by feather, oral and cloaca. Individual-specific features were observed when the skin and feathers were concentrated independently. Skin and feather samples of multiple body sites from the same individual were more similar than those from different individuals. Although a significant proportion of the microbiota in the host (85.7%-96.5%) was not derived from the environmental microbiome, as body sites became more exposed to the environment, the relative importance of neutral processes (random drift or dispersal) increased. Neutral processes were the most important contributor in shaping the feather microbiome communities (R2 = .859). A higher percentage of taxa (29.3%) on the skin were selected by hosts compared to taxa on other body habitats. This study demonstrated that niche speciation and partial neutral processes, rather than environmental sources, contribute to microbiome variation in the crested ibis. These results enhance our knowledge of baseline microbial diversity in birds and will aid health management in crested ibises in the future.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Leaf area (A) is a crucial indicator of the photosynthetic capacity of plants. The Montgomery equation (ME), which hypothesizes that A is proportional to the product of leaf length (L) and width (W), is a valid tool for nondestructively measuring A for many broad-leaved plants. At present, the methods used to compute L and W for ME can be broadly divided into two kinds: using computer recognition, and measuring manually. However, the potential difference in the prediction accuracy using either method has not been thoroughly examined in prior studies. METHODS: In the present study, we measured 540 Alangium chinense leaves, 489 Liquidambar formosana leaves, and 215 Liriodendron × sinoamericanum leaves, utilizing computer recognition and manual measurement methods to determine L and W. ME was used to fit the data determined by the two methods, and the goodness of fits were compared. The prediction errors of A were analyzed by examining the correlations with two leaf symmetry indices (areal ratio of the left side to the right side, and standardized index for bilateral asymmetry), as well as the leaf shape complexity index (the leaf dissection index). KEY RESULTS: The results indicate that there is a neglectable difference in the estimation of A between both methods. This further validates that ME is an effective method for estimating A in broad-leaved tree species, including those with lobes. Additionally, leaf shape complexity significantly influenced the estimation of A. CONCLUSIONS: These results show that the use of computer recognition and manual measurement in the field are both effective and feasible, although the influence of leaf shape complexity should be considered when applying ME to estimate A in the future.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to investigate the imaging features, clinical characteristics and neonatal outcomes of pregnancy luteoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed patients with pregnancy luteoma admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between January 2003 and December 2022. We recorded their imaging features, clinical characteristics and neonatal outcomes. Additionally, we reviewed relevant studies in the field. RESULTS: In total, 127 cases were identified, including eight from our hospital and 119 from the literature. Most patients (93/127, 73.23%) were of reproductive age, 20-40 years old, and 66% were parous. Maternal hirsutism or virilization (such as deepening voice, acne, facial hair growth and clitoromegaly) was observed in 29.92% (38/127), whereas 59.06% of patients (75/127) were asymptomatic. Abdominal pain was reported in 13 patients due to compression, torsion or combined ectopic pregnancy. The pregnancy luteomas, primarily discovered during the third trimester (79/106, 74.53%), varied in size ranging from 10 mm to 20 cm in diameter. Seventy-five cases were incidentally detected during cesarean section or postpartum tubal ligation, and 39 were identified through imaging or physical examination during pregnancy. Approximately 26.61% of patients had bilateral lesions. The majority of pregnancy luteomas were solid and well-defined (94/107, 87.85%), with 43.06% (31/72) displaying multiple solid and well-circumscribed nodules. Elevated serum androgen levels (reaching values between 1.24 and 1529 times greater than normal values for term gestation) were observed in patients with hirsutism or virilization, with a larger lesion diameter (P < 0.001) and a higher prevalence of bilateral lesions (P < 0.001). Among the female infants born to masculinized mothers, 68.18% (15/22) were virilized. Information of imaging features was complete in 22 cases. Ultrasonography revealed well-demarcated hypoechoic solid masses with rich blood supply in 12 of 19 cases (63.16%). Nine patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT), and six exhibited solid masses, including three with multi-nodular solid masses. CONCLUSIONS: Pregnancy luteomas mainly manifest as well-defined, hypoechoic and hypervascular solid masses. MRI and CT are superior to ultrasonography in displaying the imaging features of multiple nodules. Maternal masculinization and solid masses with multiple nodules on imaging may help diagnose this rare disease.

BACKGROUND: Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disorder. Transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ/WWTR1) is an important downstream effector of the Hippo pathway which regulates organ size and tissue homeostasis. But little is known about the role of TAZ in lichen planus so far. OBJECTIVE: To explore the expression of TAZ in lichen planus and normal skin, and to discover the relationship between TAZ expression and the clinical characteristics of lichen planus patients. METHODS: The method of immunohistochemistry was performed to quantify the expression of TAZ in 262 patients with lichen planus and 90 control tissues. Western blot and quantitative real-time reverse transcriptase-PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis were performed to examine and compare TAZ expression in 4 cases of fresh lichen planus lesions and normal skin tissues. RESULTS: TAZ was weakly expressed in the basal layers of the epidermis in normal skin tissues with a positive rate of 52.22% (47/90). But in lichen planus, TAZ was strongly expressed in almost the entire epidermis with a positive rate of 81.30% (213/262), and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (p<0.05). Additionally, TAZ expression was significantly related to the location of the lichen planus, clinical phenotype, smoking, and alcohol preference (p<0.05). Western blot and qRT-PCR showed that the expression of TAZ in protein and mRNA levels in four cases of lichen planus lesions was significantly higher than that in normal skin tissues. CONCLUSION: TAZ may play a regulatory role in the occurrence and development of lichen planus, which might provide a new perspective for studying pathogenesis and theoretical treatment targets.

Psoriasis, an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory skin disease, imposes a huge mental and physical burden on patients and severely affects their quality of life. Punicalagin (PU), the most abundant ellagitannin in pomegranates, has become a research hotspot owing to its diverse biological activities. However, its effects on psoriasis remain unclear. We explored the impact and molecular mechanism of PU on M5-stimulated keratinocyte cell lines and imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis-like skin inflammation in BABL/c mice using western blotting, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescent. Administration of PU-enriched pomegranate extract at dosages of 150 and 250 mg/kg/day markedly attenuated psoriatic severity, abrogated splenomegaly, and reduced IMQ-induced abnormal epidermal proliferation, CD4+ T-cell infiltration, and inflammatory factor expression. Moreover, PU could decrease expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1ß, IL-1α, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, IL-17A, IL-22, IL-23A, and reactive oxygen species (ROS), followed by keratinocyte proliferation inhibition in the M5-stimulated cell line model of inflammation through inhibition of mitogen-activated protein kinases/extracellular regulated protein kinases (MAPK/ERK) and nuclear factor kappaB (NF-κB) signaling pathways. Our results indicate that PU may serve as a promising nutritional intervention for psoriasis by ameliorating cellular oxidative stress and inflammation.

Disorder is the primary obstacle in the current Majorana nanowire experiments. Reducing disorder or achieving ballistic transport is thus of paramount importance. In clean and ballistic nanowire devices, quantized conductance is expected, with plateau quality serving as a benchmark for disorder assessment. Here, we introduce ballistic PbTe nanowire devices grown by using the selective-area-growth (SAG) technique. Quantized conductance plateaus in units of 2e2/h are observed at zero magnetic field. This observation represents an advancement in diminishing disorder within SAG nanowires as most of the previously studied SAG nanowires (InSb or InAs) have not exhibited zero-field ballistic transport. Notably, the plateau values indicate that the ubiquitous valley degeneracy in PbTe is lifted in nanowire devices. This degeneracy lifting addresses an additional concern in the pursuit of Majorana realization. Moreover, these ballistic PbTe nanowires may enable the search for clean signatures of the spin-orbit helical gap in future devices.

BACKGROUND: ε-polylysine hydrochloride (ε-PLH) is a naturally occurring antimicrobial peptide extensively utilized in the food and medical industries. However, its impact on animal husbandry remains to be further explored. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effect of ε-PLH on laying hens' health and laying performance. RESULTS: Dietary supplementation with ε-PLH to the diet significantly increased average egg weight during weeks 1-8. Meanwhile, compared with the control group, supplementation with ε-PLH decreased the feed egg ratio during weeks 9-12 and egg breakage rate during weeks 9-16 ,whereas it increased eggshell strength during weeks 1-4 and 13-16 . The ε-PLH 0.05% group increased yolk percentage during weeks 5-8 and yolk color during weeks 1-4 . Furthermore, ε-PLH supplementation significantly increased the concentrations of total protein, albumin, globulin and reproductive hormones estradiol, as well as decreased interleukin-1 beta and malondialdehyde in the serum. Compared with the control group, supplementation with 0.05% ε-PLH significantly increased the relative abundance of Cyanobacteria and Gastranaerophilales and decreased the abundance of Desulfovibrio and Streptococcus in the cecum microbiota. In addition, ε-PLH 0.1% supplementation also increased acetic acid content in the cecum. CONCLUSION: Dietary supplementation with ε-PLH has a positive impact on both productive performance and egg quality in laying hens. Furthermore, ε-PLH can also relieve inflammation by promoting the immunity and reducing oxidative damage during egg production. ε-PLH has been shown to improve intestinal morphology, gut microbial diversity and intestinal health. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

This study aims to explore the acute effects of short-term exposure to PM2.5 components and their mixture on PROM. Counts of hospital admissions due to PROM were collected at the Fourth Hospital of Shijiazhuang. The associations between the PROM and PM2.5 components was examined using a time-stratified case-crossover approach. The overall effects of components on TPROM were examined using the BKMR. During the study period 30,709 cases of PROMwere identified. The relative risks and the 95% CI of TPROM were 1.013 (1.002, 1.028) and 1.015 (1.003, 1.028) associated with per interquartile range increase in nitrate and ammonium ion on the current day and they were 1.007 (1.001, 1.013) and 1.003 (1.000, 1.005) on the previous day. The results from the BKMR models showed a higher risk of TPROM was associated with exposure to mixtures, in which, nitrate and organic matter were the main contributors to the overall effect.

Grim-19 (gene associated with retinoid-IFN-induced mortality 19), the essential component of complex I of mitochondrial respiratory chain, functions as a noncanonical tumor suppressor by controlling apoptosis and energy metabolism. However, additional biological actions of Grim-19 have been recently suggested in male reproduction. We investigated here the expression and functional role of Grim-19 in murine testis. Testicular Grim-19 expression was detected from mouse puberty and increased progressively thereafter, and GRIM-19 protein was observed to be expressed exclusively in interstitial Leydig cells (LCs), with a prominent mitochondrial localization. In vivo lentiviral vector-mediated knockdown of Grim-19 resulted in a significant decrease in testosterone production and triggered aberrant oxidative stress in testis, thus impairing male fertility by inducing germ cell apoptosis and oligozoospermia. The control of testicular steroidogenesis by GRIM-19 was validated using the in vivo knockdown model with isolated primary LCs and in vitro experiments with MA-10 mouse Leydig tumor cells. Mechanistically, we suggest that the negative regulation exerted by GRIM-19 deficiency-induced oxidative stress on steroidogenesis may be the result of two phenomena: a direct effect through inhibition of phosphorylation of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) and subsequent impediment to StAR localization in mitochondria and an indirect pathway that is to facilitate the inhibiting role exerted by the extracellular matrix on the steroidogenic capacity of LCs via promotion of integrin activation. Altogether, our observations suggest that Grim-19 plays a potent role in testicular steroidogenesis and that its alterations may contribute to testosterone deficiency-related disorders linked to metabolic stress and male infertility.

All jawed vertebrates have four T cell receptor (TCR) chains expressed by thymus-derived lymphocytes that play a significant role in animal immune defense. However, avian TCR studies have been limited to a few species, although their co-functional major histocompatibility complexes (MHCs) have been studied for decades, showing various copy numbers and polymorphisms. Here, using public genome data, we characterized the copy numbers, the phylogenic relationship and selection of T cell receptor complex (TCR-C) segments, and the genomic organization of TCR loci across birds. Various numbers of C segments were found in the TCRα/TCRδ, TCRß, and TCRγ loci, and phylogenetic analysis reflected both ancient gene duplication events (two Cß segments and Cδ segments divergent into CδI and CδII) and contemporary evolution (lineage-specific and species-specific characteristics). Most passerines lack CδII segments and a second TRD locus, except Meliphagidae and Maluridae. A relatively stable structure was verified in four TCR loci of birds, except for the arrangement of V segment groups. In this study, we explored the phylogenetic relationships of TCR-C segments across avians for the first time. We inferred gene duplication and loss events during the evolution process. The finding of diverse TCR germline repertoires provides a better understanding of the immune systems of birds.

Traditional grating lenses can accumulate phase for adjusting wavefronts, and plasmonic resonances can be excited in metasurfaces with discrete structures for optical field modulation. Diffractive and plasma optics have been developing in parallel, with easy processing, small size, and dynamic control advantages. Due to theoretical hybridization, structural design can combine advantages and show great potential value. Changing the shape and size of the flat metasurface can easily produce light field reflections, but changes in height are rarely cross-explored. We propose a graded metasurface with a single-structure periodic arrangement, which can mix the effects of plasmonic resonance and grating diffraction. As for solvents of different polarities, strong polarization-dependent beam reflections are produced, enabling versatile beam convergence and deflection. Dielectric/metal nanostructures with selective hydrophobic/hydrophilic properties can be arranged by the structural material specification to selectively settle the location of the solution in a liquid environment. Furthermore, the wetted metasurface is actively triggered to achieve spectral control and initiate polarization-dependent beam steering in the broadband visible light region. Actively reconfigurable polarization-dependent beam steering has potential applications in tunable optical displays, directional emission, beam manipulation and processing, and sensing technologies.

Constructive achievements in the field of nanobiotechnology and their translation into clinical course have led to increasing attention towards evaluation of their use for treatment of diseases, especially cancer. Osteosarcoma (OS) is one of the primary bone malignancies that affects both males and females in childhood and adolescence. Like other types of cancers, genetic and epigenetic mutations account for OS progression and several conventional therapies including chemotherapy and surgery are employed. However, survival rate of OS patients remains low and new therapies in this field are limited. The purpose of the current review is to provide a summary of nanostructures used in OS treatment. Drug and gene delivery by nanoplatforms have resulted in an accumulation of therapeutic agents for tumor cell suppression. Furthermore, co-delivery of genes and drugs by nanostructures are utilized in OS suppression to boost immunotherapy. Since tumor cells have distinct features such as acidic pH, stimuli-responsive nanoparticles have been developed to appropriately target OS. Besides, nanoplatforms can be used for biosensing and providing phototherapy to suppress OS. Furthermore, surface modification of nanoparticles with ligands can increase their specificity and selectivity towards OS cells. Clinical translation of current findings suggests that nanoplatforms have been effective in retarding tumor growth and improving survival of OS patients.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: High-salt diet has been suggested to increase the risk of heart disease. However, the mechanisms underlying coronary artery tension dysfunction caused by high-salt diet are unclear. Previous studies have shown that coronary artery spasm is often induced by endothelin-1 (ET-1) and thromboxane, leading to myocardial ischemia, while the store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) function of coronary smooth muscle is very important in this process. METHODS AND RESULTS: Tension measurements of endothelium-denuded coronary artery ring segments showed that vasocontraction induced by U46619, ET-1, orSTIM1/Orai1-mediated SOCE was significantly lower in 4% high-salt diet rats than in control rats fed a regular diet. The results of western blotting and immunohistochemistry assays showed lower expression levels of endothelial receptors ETA and ETB, STIM1 and Orai1 in coronary artery of high-salt intake rats compared with control rats. Fibrosis was observed by using Masson's trichrome staining and picrosirius red staining. The plasma ET-1 concentration in high-salt diet rats was significantly higher than that of controls. The interventricular septum and posterior wall of high-salt diet rats were significantly thickened. CONCLUSION: Our findings indicated that coronary artery tension was significantly decreased in 4% high-salt diet rats and that this decrease may be due to the change of endothelin receptor and its downstream pathway SOCE related protein expression in coronary artery. Coronary fibrosis was observed in rats fed with high-salt diet. This study provides potential mechanistic insights into high-salt intake-induced heart disease.

BACKGROUND: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a multisystem genetic disorder that may affect multiple systems of the body. Autosomal recessive bestrophinopathy (ARB) is a rare retinal dystrophy caused by autosomal recessively mutations in bestrophin 1 (BEST1) gene. So far, we have not retrieved any case report of the same patient with both NF1 and BEST1 gene mutations. CASE PRESENTATION: An 8-year-old female patient with café-au-lait spots, freckling on skin presented to our ophthalmology clinic for routine ophthalmological examination. Her best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/20 in both eyes. Slit-lamp examination of both eyes revealed few yellowish-brown dome-shaped Lisch nodules over the iris surface. Fundus examination was notable for bilateral confluent yellowish subretinal deposits at macula, few yellow flecks at temporal retina, and cup-to-disc ratio of 0.2. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) revealed subretinal fluid (SRF) involving the fovea, elongated photoreceptor outer segments and mild intraretinal fluid (IRF) at bilateral macula. Fundus autofluorescence demonstrated hyperautofluorescence in the area corresponding to the subretinal deposits. Whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing were used to investigate genetic mutation in the patient and her parents. A BEST1 gene heterozygous missense c.604 C > T (p.Arg202Trp) was identified in the patient and her mother. Also, the patient carries an NF1 nonsense mutation c.6637 C > T (p.Gln2213*) with the mosaic generalized phenotype. There were no visual impairments or obvious neurological, musculoskeletal, behavioral or other symptoms in this patient, so she was managed conservatively and advised to follow up regularly for a long time. CONCLUSIONS: ARB and NF1, which are caused by two different pathogenic gene mutations, have rarely coexisted in the same patient. The discovery of pathogenic gene mutations may play a crucial role in more accurate diagnostics and genetic consultations for individuals and their families.

BACKGROUND: The detection and continuous monitoring of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL) within the endocervical canal pose considerable challenges, and the effectiveness of ablation treatment is also constrained. In this context, the potential efficacy of 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (5-ALA PDT) in targeting these concealed lesions merits exploration. The present study undertakes a comprehensive analysis of the clinical effectiveness and safety aspects associated with the utilization of 5-ALA PDT. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of 13 patients who were diagnosed with LSIL within the endocervical canal, concomitant with high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection. These patients were subjected to treatment with 5-ALA PDT and subsequently monitored over a period of 3-6 months following the intervention. RESULTS: The study cohort comprised 13 patients, among whom 4 presented with isolated lesions within the endocervical canal, 5 exhibited LSIL involving both the endocervical canal and the cervix vaginal portion, 3 displayed LSIL within the endocervical canal in conjunction with vaginal involvement, and 1 patient demonstrated lesions across all three of these anatomical sites. All identified lesions underwent therapeutic intervention via 5-ALA PDT. Before treatment initiation, 9 patients returned positive results in the liquid-based cytologic test (LBC), 4 displayed concurrent multiple hrHPV infections, and 5 manifested infections specifically with HPV 16/18. Subsequent to the application of 5-ALA PDT, regression was observed in the LBC results of all patients, with only 3 individuals retaining a singular type of hrHPV infection. Adverse reactions following treatment encompassed mild aberrant vaginal secretions and mild to moderately pronounced distending abdominal discomfort, all of which were remitted within a span of 7 days. CONCLUSIONS: Within the context of LSIL within the endocervical canal in association with hrHPV infection, the findings affirm the efficacy and safety of 5-ALA PDT as a viable therapeutic modality.
