RESUMO

Revealing the in-depth structure-property relationship and designing specific capacity electrodes are particularly important for supercapacitors. Despite many efforts made to tune the composition and electronic structure of cobalt oxide for pseudocapacitance, insight into the [CoO]6 octahedron from the microstructure is still insufficient. Herein, we present a tunable [CoO]6 octahedron microstructure in LiCoO2 by a chemical delithiation process. The c-strained strain of the [CoO]6 octahedron is induced to form higher valence Co ions, and the (003) crystalline layer spacing increases to allow more rapid participation of OH- in the redox reaction. Interestingly, the specific capacity of L0.75CO2 is nearly four times higher than that of LiCoO2 at 10 mA g-1. The enhanced activity originated from the asymmetric strain [CoO]6 octahedra, resulting in enhanced electronic conductivity and Co-O hybridization for accelerated redox kinetics. This finding provides new insights into the modification strategy for pseudocapacitive transition metal oxides.

RESUMO

This study compared the concentrations, types and distributions of sialic acid (SA) in human milk at different stages of the postnatal period with those in a range of infant formulas. Breast milk from mothers of healthy, full-term and exclusively breastfed infants was collected on the 2nd (n 246), 7th (n 135), 30th (n 85) and 90th (n 48) day after birth. The SA profiles of human milk, including their distribution, were analysed and compared with twenty-four different infant formulas. Outcome of this observational study was the result of natural exposure. Only SA of type Neu5Ac was detected in human milk. Total SA concentrations were highest in colostrum and reduced significantly over the next 3 months. Approximately 68·776·1 % of all SA in human milk were bound to oligosaccharides. Two types of SA, Neu5Ac and Neu5Gc, have been detected in infant formulas. Most SA was present in infant formulas combined with protein. Breastfed infants could receive more SA than formula-fed infants with the same energy intake. Overall, human milk is a preferable source of SA than infant formulas in terms of total SA content, dynamics, distribution and type. These SA profiles in the natural state are worth to be considered by the production of formulas because they may have a great effect on infant nutrition and development.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: It remains unclear whether the long-term prognostic value of serum uric acid (SUA) at admission differs in acute decompensated heart failure (HF) patients across the spectrum of left ventricular ejection fraction (EF). METHODS AND RESULTS: In 2375 patients (38.9% women; mean age, 68.8 years), we assessed the risk of long-term (>1 year) all-cause mortality associated with per 1-SD increase in SUA at admission, using multivariable Cox regression in HF with preserved (HFpEF), mildly reduced (HFmrEF) and reduced (HFrEF) EF. During a median follow-up of 4.1 years, the long-term mortality rate was 39.9%. In all patients, the multivariable-adjusted hazard ratio (HR) expressing the risk of long-term mortality associated with SUA was 1.18 (95% CI, 1.11-1.26; P < 0.001). Compared with the low tertile of the SUA distribution, the sex- and age-adjusted cumulative incidence of long-term mortality was higher in the top tertile. In patients with HFpEF and HFrEF, SUA predicted the risk of long-term mortality with HRs amounting to 1.12 (95% CI, 1.02-1.21; P = 0.012) and 1.28 (95% CI, 1.12-1.47; P < 0.001), respectively. However, there were no associations between the risk of mortality and SUA in HFmrEF. Furthermore, age, sex, NYHA class, and the prevalence of coronary heart disease interacted significantly with SUA for predicting long-term mortality. CONCLUSION: Higher levels of SUA at admission were associated with higher risk of long-term mortality in patients with different HF subtypes. The risk conferred by SUA was age and sex dependent. Our observations highlight that measuring SUA at admission may help to improve risk stratification.

RESUMO

Liquid sodium is an attractive working fluid for thermoacoustic conversion. Herein, a numerical study on a standing-wave thermoacoustic electricity generation system with liquid sodium as the working fluid is presented, based upon the Swift model. The characteristics of the thermoacoustic conversion and the output performance of the system have been investigated. The results show that the sodium engine can reach a power density much higher than the classical gas engine. Due to the strong acoustic coupling between components, the electricity output is significantly affected by the input heating power, the magnetic flux density, and the load ratio. In a typical case, the thermal-to-electric efficiency and the relative Carnot efficiency can reach 4.6% and 7.8%, respectively, with a temperature difference of 563 K and an input heat of 5 kW. More importantly, the output electricity density reaches 150 kW/m3, higher than some commercially available technologies. These results demonstrate the potential of such technology for small-scale electricity generation. Its extremely simple structure without any mechanical moving part endows the system with high reliability and long lifetime, if risks of corrosion and exposure to air and water can be avoided.

RESUMO

Conducting polymers with high theoretical capacitance and deformability are among the optimal candidates for compressible supercapacitor electrode materials. However, achieving both mechanical and electrochemical stabilities in a single electrode remains a great challenge. To address this issue, the "Polymer Chainmail" is proposed with reversible deformation capability and enhances stability because of the steric hindrance and charge compensation effect of doped anions. As a proof of concept, four common anions are selected as dopants for Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), and their effects on the adsorption and diffusion of H+ on PEDOT are verified using density functional theory calculations. Owing to the film formation effect, the PF 6 - ${{\rm{PF}}_6^- }$ doped PEDOT/nitrogen-doped carbon foam exhibits good mechanical properties. Furthermore, the composite demonstrates excellent rate performance and stability due to suitable anion doping. This finding provides new insights into the preparation of electrochemically stable conductive polymer-based compressible electrode materials.

RESUMO

Class IIa histone deacetylases (HDACs) critically regulate cardiac function through the repression of the activity of myocyte enhancer factor 2 (MEF2)-dependent gene programs. Protein kinase D (PKD) and Ca2+/Calmodulin-dependent kinase II (CaMKII) activate MEF2 by phosphorylating distinct HDAC isoforms and thereby creating 14-3-3 binding sites for nucleo-cytoplasmic shuttling. Recently, it has been shown that this process is counteracted by cyclic AMP (cAMP)-dependent signaling. Here, we investigated the specific mechanisms of how cAMP-dependent signaling regulates distinct HDAC isoforms and determined their relative contributions to the protection from pathological MEF2 activation. We found that cAMP is sufficient to induce nuclear retention and to blunt phosphorylation of the 14-3-3 binding sites of HDAC5 (Ser259/498) and HDAC9 (Ser218/448) but not HDAC4 (Ser246/467/632). These regulatory events could be observed only in cardiomyocytes and myocyte-like cells but not in non-myocytes, pointing to an indirect myocyte-specific mode of action. Consistent with one previous report, we found that blunted phosphorylation of HDAC5 and HDAC9 was mediated by protein kinase A (PKA)-dependent inhibition of PKD. However, we show by the use of neonatal cardiomyocytes derived from genetic HDAC mouse models that endogenous HDAC5 but not HDAC9 contributes specifically to the repression of endogenous MEF2 activity. HDAC4 contributed significantly to the repression of MEF2 activity but based on the mechanistic findings of this study combined with previous results we attribute this to PKA-dependent proteolysis of HDAC4. Consistently, cAMP-induced repression of agonist-driven cellular hypertrophy was blunted in cardiomyocytes deficient for both HDAC5 and HDAC4. In conclusion, cAMP inhibits MEF2 through both nuclear accumulation of hypo-phosphorylated HDAC5 and through a distinct HDAC4-dependent mechanism.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Alternative splicing (AS) may cause structural and functional variations in the protein to promote the proliferation of tumor cells. However, there is no comprehensive analysis of the clinical significance of AS in Helicobacter pylori-negative gastric cancer (HP - GC). METHODS: The clinical, gene expression profile data and AS events of 138 HP - GC patients were obtained from the database named the cancer genome atlas. Differently expressed AS (DEAS) events were determined by a comparison of the PSI values between HP - GC samples and adjacent normal samples. Unsupervised clustering analysis, proportional regression and Kaplan-Meier analysis were used to explore the association between clinical data and immune features and to establish two nomograms about the prognosis of HP - GC. Finally, splicing networks were constructed using Cytoscape. RESULTS: A total of 48141 AS events and 1041 DEAS events were found in HP - GC. Various functions and pathways of DEAS events parent genes were enriched, such as cell-substrate junction, cell leading edge, focal adhension, and AMPK signaling. Seven overall survival (OS)-related and seven disease-free survival (DFS)-related AS events were used to construct the prognostic signatures. Based on the independent prognostic factors, two nomograms were established and showed excellent performance. Then, splicing regulatory networks among the correlations suggested that splicing factors were significantly associated with prognostic DEASs. Finally, the unsupervised clustering analysis revealed that DEAS-based clusters were associated with clinical characteristics, tumor microenvironment, tumor mutation burden, and immune features. CONCLUSION: Seven OS-related and seven DFS-related AS events have been found to be correlated with the prognosis of HP - GC and can be used as prognostic factors to establish an effective nomogram.

RESUMO

TLRs have been proven to be essential mediators for the early innate immune response. Overactivation of TLR-mediated immune signaling promotes deterioration of cardiovascular diseases; however, the role of TLRs in the heart under physiologic conditions remains neglected. Here, we show that Tlr3 deficiency induced the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention of Kv4.2/4.3 proteins and consequent degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. Knockout of Tlr3 resulted in a prolonged QT interval (the space between the start of the Q wave and the end of the T wave) in mice with no significant signs of inflammation and tissue abnormality in cardiac muscles. Prolongation of action potential duration resulted from the depression of transient outward potassium channel (Ito) currents in Tlr3-deficient ventricular myocytes mirrored the change in QT interval. Mechanistically, we found that Tlr3 was exclusively localized in the ER of cardiomyocytes where it interacted with Kv4.2/4.3 subunits of Ito channel. Thus, our data indicated that TLR3 directly regulates Ito channel protein dynamics to maintain cardiac repolarization, which may implicate a new molecular surveillance system for cardiac electrophysiological homeostasis.-Gao, X., Gao, S., Guan, Y., Huang, L., Huang, J., Lin, L., Liu, Y., Zhao, H., Huang, B., Yuan, T., Liu, Y., Liang, D., Zhang, Y., Ma, X., Li, L., Li, J., Zhou, D., Shi, D., Xu, L., Chen, Y.-H. Toll-like receptor 3 controls QT interval on the electrocardiogram by targeting the degradation of Kv4.2/4.3 channels in the endoplasmic reticulum.

RESUMO

The accurate reconstruction model of plant microstructure is important for obtaining the mechanical properties of plant tissues. In this paper, a virtual segmentation technique is proposed to optimize Delaunay triangulation. Based on the optimized Delaunay triangulation, an Optimized Distance Weighted Tessellation (ODWT) algorithm is developed. Two different structures, namely carrot and retting maize vascular bundles, were reconstructed via the ODWT algorithm. The accuracy of ODWT is evaluated statistically by comparing with Centroid-based Voronoi Tessellation (CVT) and Area Weighted Tessellation (AWT). The results show that ODWT has distinct advantages over CVT and AWT. It is worth mentioning that ODWT has better performance than CVT when there exists large diversity in adjacent cell area. It is found that CVT and AWT fail to reconstruct cells with elongated and concave shapes, while ODWT shows excellent feasibility and reliability. Furthermore, ODWT is capable of establishing finite tissue boundary, which CVT and AWT have failed to realize. The purpose of this work is to develop an algorithm with higher accuracy to implement the preprocessing for further numerical study of plants properties. The comparison results of the simulated values of the longitudinal tensile modulus with the experimental value show that ODWT algorithm can improve the prediction accuracy of multi-scale models on mechanical properties.

RESUMO

Nucleoporins (Nups) are known to be functional in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport, but the roles of nucleoporins in nonproliferating cells, such as cardiac myocytes, are still poorly understood. In this study, we report that Nup107 regulates cardiac bioelectricity by controlling the nucleo-cytoplasmic trafficking of Scn5a mRNA. Overexpression of Nup107 induced the protein expression of Scn5a rather than that of other ion channels, with no effects of their mRNA levels. The analysis for the protein production demonstrated Nup107-facilitated transport of Scn5a mRNA. Using RIP-PCR and luciferase assay, we found that the 5'-UTR of Scn5a mRNA was not involved in the interaction, whereas the spatial interaction between Nup107 protein and Scn5a mRNA was formed when Scn5a mRNA passing through the nuclear pore. Functionally, Nup107 overexpression in neonatal rat ventricle myocytes significantly increased the currents of Scn5a-encoded INa channel. Moreover, the close correlation between Nup107 and Nav1.5 protein expression was observed in cardiomycytes and heart tissues subjected to hypoxia and ischaemic insults, suggesting a fast regulation of Nup107 on Nav1.5 channel in cardiac myocytes in a posttranscriptional manner. These findings may provide insights into the emergent control of cardiac electrophysiology through Nup-mediated modulation of ion channels.

RESUMO

Microbial fuel cell (MFC) was compared to conventional biological techniques for decolorization of anthraquinone dye, reactive blue 19 (RB19) with simultaneous electricity generation. With 50 mg/L of RB19 in the anode chamber as a fuel, the MFC achieved 89% decolorization efficiency of RB19 within 48 h, compared with 51 and 55% decolorization efficiency achieved by aerobic and anaerobic techniques, respectively. The cyclic voltammetry results showed that RB19 could promote the electron transfer and redox reaction on the surface of anode. The RB19 decolorization process can be described by first-order kinetics, and the decolorization rate decreased with the increase of RB19 concentration. The high-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing analysis indicated significant microbial community shift in the MFC. At phylum level, the majority of sequences belong to Proteobacteria, accounting from 23 to 84% of the total reads in each bacterium community. At genus level, the MFC contained two types of microorganisms in general such as electrochemically active and decolorization bacteria. Overall, MFC is an effective method for anthraquinone dye treatment with simultaneous energy recovery. The 16S rRNA revealed that there were two major functioning microbial communities in the MFC such as electricity-producing and RB19-degrading bacteria which synergistically worked on RB19 degradation.

RESUMO

An analytical method was established for the simultaneous determination of seven nitrogen-containing phenyl ethers (2-anisidine, 3-anisidine, 4-anisidine, 2-nitroanisole, 3-nitroanisole, 4-nitroanisole, and 3,3'-dimethoxybenzidine) in cosmetics by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry in this work. The samples were extracted with ethyl acetate and purified with primary secondary amine during the dispersed solid-phase extraction. The analytes were separated by a DB-17MS column and detected in the electron ionization mode of mass spectrometry in the selected ions monitoring mode. The extraction solvent, purification adsorbents, and chromatographic column behavior were optimized. The results indicated that the seven analytes show good linear relationship (R2 > 0.9965) in the concentrations of 5.0-5000 µg/L. The quantitation limits of the method ranged from 19.0 to 84.8 µg/kg. The recovery rates of seven analytes were in the range of 72.6-114% with the relative standard deviations of 1.1-7.5%. Real sample analyses showed that this accurate and precise method could be appropriate for simultaneous determination of seven nitrogen-containing phenyl ethers in cosmetics.

RESUMO

The efficacy of combined vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibition in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was well studied. However, few studies focused on the risk and adverse events (AEs) of combined targeted therapy. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the safety profile of combined targeted therapy against EFGR and VEGF in patients with advanced NSCLC. A comprehensive literature search in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), ASCO Abstracts and ESMO Abstracts was conducted. Eligible studies were randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that compared safety profile of combined therapy inhibiting EFGR and VEGF pathways with control groups (placebo, single EGFR or VEGF inhibition therapy, chemotherapy or a combination of them) in patients with advanced NSCLC. The endpoints included treatment discontinuation, treatment-related deaths and AEs. The search identified 15 RCTs involving 6,919 patients. The outcomes showed that three of four pairwise comparisons detected more discontinuation due to AEs in combined targeted therapy, with odds ratio (OR) compared with the control groups ranged from 1.97 to 2.29. Treatment with combined inhibition therapy was associated with several all-grade and grade 3 or 4 AEs (e.g. rash, diarrhea and hypertension). Also, there was a significantly higher incidence of treatment-related deaths in combined inhibition using vandetanib versus single EGFR inhibition therapy (OR = 1.97, 95% CI 1.19-3.28). In conclusion, combined inhibition therapy against EGFR and VEGF in patients with advanced NSCLC was associated with increased toxicity. Increased AEs hinder patient compliance and reduce their quality of life, leading to dose reduction or discontinuation.

RESUMO

A low-cost and facile route has been developed for the synthesis of monodisperse CuPd nanoparticles with tunable composition. (Scanning transmission electron microscopy-energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy) STEM-EDX results verified the structure of the alloy for the obtained nanoparticles. These CuPd nanoparticles supported on carbon were active catalysts for hydrogen generation from the methanolysis of ammonia borane (AB) at room temperature, and their activities were closely related with the compositions. Cu48Pd52 NPs exhibited the highest activity among the tested catalysts. Moreover, their activity can be further improved by thermal annealing at 300 °C under nitrogen flow, with a very high total turnover frequency value of 53.2 min(-1). The reusability test indicated that the Cu48Pd52/C catalyst retains 86% of its initial activity and 100% conversion after 8 cycles. The catalyst, which features lost cost and high efficiency, may help move forward the practical application of AB as a sustainable hydrogen storage material.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies indicated that Intravesical prostatic protrusion is relevant to prognosis of LUTS, however, the confounding effect that is brought about by prostate volume, urethra anterior curvature angle and other factors makes it hard to evaluate the role of intravesical prostatic protrusion in clinical observation. METHODS: We proposed a fluid structural interaction analysis approach. 3D models were constructed based on MRI images, and prostatic urethra diameters were calibrated with urodynamic data. Comparisons of urine flow dynamics were made between models with various degree of intravesical prostatic protrusion, while the intravesical pressure, anterior urethra curvature angle and diameter of prostatic urethra were same among all models to rule out their confounding effects. RESULTS: Simulation result showed that the decrement of diameter and increment of variation in cross-sectional area for prostatic urethra were related to the degree of intravesical prostatic protrusion. Such deformation would lead to deterioration of flow efficiency and could compromise the effect of bladder outlet obstruction alleviation treatment. CONCLUSIONS: These results provided further evidence for intravesical prostatic protrusion being an independent risk factor for bladder outlet obstruction severity and demonstrated that intravesical prostatic protrusion would be a promising marker in clinical decision making.

RESUMO

We revisit the issue about the magnetization of the 120° order in the spin-1/2 triangular lattice Heisenberg model with density matrix renormalization group (DMRG). The accurate determination of the magnetization of this model is challenging for numerical methods and its value exhibits substantial disparities across various methods. We perform a large-scale DMRG calculation of this model by employing bond dimension as large asD=24000and by studying the system with width as large asLy=12. With careful extrapolation with truncation error and suitable finite size scaling, we give a conservative estimation of the magnetization asM0=0.208(8). The ground state energy per site we obtain isEg=-0.5503(8). Our results provide valuable benchmark values for the development of new methods in the future.

RESUMO

Gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) have aroused intensive attention for their moderate comprehensive performances in lithium-metal batteries (LMBs). However, GPEs with low elastic moduli of MPa magnitude cannot mechanically regulate the Li deposition, leading to recalcitrant lithium dendrites. Herein, a porous Li7 La3 Zr2 O12 (LLZO) framework (PLF) is employed as an integrated solid filler to address the intrinsic drawback of GPEs. With the incorporation of PLF, the composite GPE exhibits an ultrahigh elastic modulus of GPa magnitude, confronting Li dendrites at a mechanical level and realizing steady polarization at high current densities in Li||Li cells. Benefiting from the compatible interface with anodes, the LFP|PLF@GPE|Li cells deliver excellent rate capability and cycling performance at room temperature. Theoretical models extracted from the topology of solid fillers reveal that the PLF with unique 3D structures can effectively reinforce the gel phase of GPEs at the nanoscale via providing sufficient mechanical support from the load-sensitive direction. Numerical models are further developed to reproduce the multiphysical procedure of dendrite propagation and give insights into predicting the failure modes of LMBs. This work quantitatively clarifies the relationship between the topology of solid fillers and the interface stability of GPEs, providing guidelines for designing mechanically reliable GPEs for LMBs.

RESUMO

The Chinese government claimed to reach carbon dioxide emissions peaking by 2030 and achieve carbon neutralization by 2060. In this context, it's meaningful and urgent to estimate GHG emissions amount in every sectors. The growing concern about reducing GHG emissions has been shared by many water companies. This work aims to identify and estimate GHG emissions from the activities of drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs). According to the GHG protocol, the GHG emission inventory of DWTPs covers the sources of fossil fuel combustion, reservoir emissions, electricity and heat supply, use of chemicals and additives, disposal of waste, transportation, operation and maintenance. The tool was tested by nine DWTPs, which had an average GHG emission intensity of 0.225 kg CO2-eq/m3. The GHG emission intensities range from 0.167 kg CO2-eq/m3 to 0.272 kg CO2-eq/m3. The main source of GHG emissions is electricity supply, followed by the use of chemicals and additives. According to the average emission intensity, the estimated total amount of GHG emissions from DWTPs in China is about 1.82 × 107 t/a, corresponding to 0.15 % of the total GHG emission in China. The proposed GHG sources and emissions help decision-makers and DWTPs companies estimate GHG emissions more accurately and undertake GHG reduction measures.

Multistage flexible heat pipe has been proved to offer advantage of large flexibility as well as low thermal resistance. However, the effects of structural parameters on the comprehensive performances of such multistage thermal control device are still unclear, particularly regarding their mechanical properties. In this paper, effect of structural parameters on the mechanical and thermal performances of bionic multistage heat pipe is investigated. Results show that the stiffness of polymer tubes primarily determines the flexibility of multistage flexible heat pipe. The heat pipe with 4 metal tubes in the adiabatic section can achieve relative large flexibility and maximum bending angle as well as the short start-up time. The bending rigidity of multistage flexible heat pipe increases from 97624.4 N mm2 to 293152.9 N mm2 when its metal ratio raises from 0 % to 80 %. The thermal resistance of multistage flexible heat pipe decreases more than 32.9 % compared to the traditional flexible heat pipe. When the flexible heat pipe remains straight, the heat transfer performance will slightly increase as the shell metal ratio increases. However, its thermal resistance will also have an additional increase when bending. These results can serve as a guide for the design of the multistage flexible thermal control device.
