RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common, chronic, progressive and degenerative disease which affects patients' quality of life and may cause disability and social isolation. OA is a huge economic burden for the patient and a large strain for the whole healthcare system. Articular cartilage has a small potential to repair, with progressively more clinicians emphasizing cellular therapy. Subcutaneous fat tissue in human body is a large reservoir of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and is been harvested in minimally invasive, simple procedure. The purpose of this study was to define a specific group of patients with knee osteoarthritis, who are the most likely to benefit from the treatment with intra-articular injection of an autologous adipose tissue (AAT). METHODS: From 2016 to 2018, 59 symptomatic bilateral and unilateral knee OA patients were treated with a single intra-articular (IA) injection of an autologous adipose tissue (AAT). Before the treatment and at the follow-up, the participant was asked to fulfill the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), the International Knee Documentation Committee 2000 (IKDC 2000), The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), the Health Questionnaire EQ-5D-5L and to quantify the pain in the affected joint with a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Moreover, the patients were asked to: (i) assess their satisfaction with the effects of the conducted treatment: from 0 (unsatisfied) to 10 (very satisfied), (ii) describe the rehabilitation, if it was performed (supervised or individual and duration in weeks) and (iii) indicate any additional treatment applied, like IA injections of hyaluronic acid (HA) or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), knee arthroscopy, partial or total knee arthroplasty (TKA) at the follow-up. RESULTS: The mean age of 37 participants (16 males and 21 females) included into statistical analysis was 57.78 ± 7.39 years, the mean BMI was 31.30 ± 7.51. The questionnaires were fulfilled after the average follow-up time of 27 ± 6.5 months. A significant difference (p < 0.05) compared with the baseline, was observed in pain [NRS], WOMAC, KOOS index, pain, symptoms, ADL, Sport and Rec, QoL, EQ-5D-5L index. The satisfaction in the whole group was 6.16 ± 3.07. There was no significant difference between satisfied and unsatisfied patients in BMI and pain [NRS] at the baseline. 6 out of 7 patients with stage IV in K-L were unsatisfied with the effects of the treatment with AAT. DISCUSSION: The main conclusion of this study is that the patients with stage II of the knee OA with normal BMI are were most likely to benefit from IA injection of AAT, in contrast to the patients with stage IV, who will not beware not satisfied with the effectiveness of this kind of treatment. There were no adverse events reported at the donor site as well as in the treated knee joints.

RESUMO

What protects travel and leisure companies from a global pandemic, such as COVID-19? To answer this question, we investigate data on over 1200 travel and leisure companies in 52 countries. We consider 80 characteristics, such as company financial ratios, macroeconomic variables, and government policy responses. Using regressions and machine learning tools, we demonstrate that firms with low valuations, limited leverage, and high investments have been more immune to the pandemic-induced crash. We also find a beneficial effect of stringent containment and closure policies. Finally, our results indicate that countries with less individualism may be better positioned to cope with the pandemic. Our findings have implications for regulatory bodies, managers, and investors concerning future pandemic outbreaks.

RESUMO

The paper presents a method for checking the geometry of stamped car body parts using a 3D optical measurement system. The analysis focuses on the first forming operation due to the deformation and material flow associated with stall thresholds. An essential element of the analysis is determining the actual gap occurring between the forming surfaces based on the die and punch geometry used in the first stamping operation. The geometry of car body elements at individual production stages was analyzed using an optical laser scanner. The control carried out in this way allowed one to correctly position the tools (punch and die), thus introducing the correction of technological parameters, having a fundamental influence on the specific features of the final product. This type of approach has not been used before to calibrate the technological line and setting of shaping tools. The influence of the manufactured product geometry in intermediate operations on the final geometry features was not investigated.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This article presents the Polish version of two standardized noise reaction questions for community noise surveys. An internationally comparable noise reaction measure for social surveys was published by Fields et al. as a result of work performed by the Community Response to Noise Team of the International Commission on the Biological Effects of Noise. This measure consists of two recommended noise reaction questions: a 5-point verbal scale question and a 0-10-point numeric scale question. METHODS: The Polish words for a 5-point noise annoyance verbal scale were selected by respondents from a group of 21 potential adverbs following the method described by Fields et al. The same standardized empirical study protocol was used to select annoyance scale words (a 5-point verbal scale question) for the nine different languages. RESULTS: The following words for a 5-point noise annoyance scale were obtained: not at all, a little, rather, substantially, extremely annoying. CONCLUSIONS: The Polish version of the scale described in this paper has international counterparts. It means that our data expand the world database on human reactions to noise in different communities and become more comparable with the data from other countries.

RESUMO

In this study we investigate the perception of the velocity of linearly moving sound sources passing in front of a listener. The binaural simulation of motion used in two psychoacoustical experiments includes changes in the overall sound pressure level, the Doppler effect, and changes in interaural time differences. These changes are considered as cues for the perception of velocity. The present experiments are an extension of the experiments performed by Lutfi and Wang [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 106, 919-928 (1999)]. The results of Experiment I show that the differential velocity threshold is independent of the reference velocity (10, 20, 30, and 40 m/s), varying across listeners from 1.5 to 4.6 m/s. In Experiment II, a method based on the successive elimination of cues in compared pairs of signals was employed to estimate the weights of potential cues for velocity discrimination. The magnitudes of all underlying cues at thresholds are reported. The experimental results show the subject's preference for the Doppler cue and a weakest sensitivity to the cue related with interaural time differences. Finally, it was found that spatial differences in the source location at the endpoints of the motion trajectory are not a significant factor in the velocity discrimination task.
