RESUMO

Encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis, also called Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS), is a syndrome of etiology which is not yet clear. It is a nonhereditary condition. The clinical features include pigmentation over the facial skin known as port-wine stain, abnormalities of ocular region, and central nervous system involvement as leptomeningeal angioma. In this manuscript, we present a rare case report with an unusual combination of SWS with facial lobular capillary hemangioma.

Hence, it is important to understand student's motives behind choosing a specific career. Hence, the study was designed with an aim to evaluate the factors influencing dental students to choose dentistry as career. METHODS: The present cross-sectional survey was conducted on 401 dental students from a dental institute. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of 13 reasons that possibly influenced students' decision to study dentistry. Data collected was analyzed using SPSS 20 software. CONCLUSION: Students were mostly influenced by own interest and altruistic nature to opt for dental profession.

RESUMO

Most typical dentigerous cysts are commonly seen in association with third molars and maxillary canines. Only 5-6% of dentigerous cysts are associated with supernumerary teeth. We report a rare case of dentigerous cyst associated with an impacted anterior maxillary supernumerary tooth. The patient was treated surgically by enucleation of the cyst.

RESUMO

Human actinomycosis is a rare soft tissue infection caused by Gram-positive, anaerobic bacteria Actinomyces israelii, a commensal of the oral cavity. The major clinical forms of actinomycosis are cervicofacial, thoracic, abdominal and pelvic forms. The cervicofacial region is most commonly affected. Actinomycosis is sometimes difficult to diagnose and it should be borne in mind in the differential diagnosis of numerous infectious and non-infectious diseases. We report a patient who came with tooth pain and extra-oral swelling which later on presented as multiple draining sinuses. Our initial suspicion was dento-alveolar abscess or osteomyelitis. However, a culture of the discharge and subsequent biopsy revealed actinomycetes, confirming cervicofacial actinomycosis, but presenting itself not as the typical 'lumpy jaw'. The patient was successfully treated conservatively with a short but intensive antibiotic course.
