RESUMO

Reactive arthritis is an acute, sterile, non-suppurative and inflammatory arthropathy that usually follows infection process. Gastrointestinal, genitourinary and respiratory tract infections generally provoke reactive arthritis. Also, reactive arthritis can be seen after vaccination. Reactive arthritis cases have been reported after tetanus, combined diphteria-poliomyelitis-tetanus toxoid, hepatitis B or influenza vaccination. Although reactive arthritis is more common in youngs, healthcare workers should be aware of the development of post inactivated COVID-19 vaccine reactive arthritis in older patients. We present two cases with ReA induced by inactivated coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination (CoronaVac, Sinovac). Both patients in our study were over 70 years old and presented with polyarthritis that developed after vaccination. Rheumatoid factor and anti-nucleer antibody were negative and patients responded well to short-term steroid therapy, arthritis were not resistant.

RESUMO

The effects of induced mutation produced by five different doses of gamma irradiation (20, 25, 30, 40, and 45 Gy) were determined using molecular approaches in Vitis vinifera cultivars, namely Thompson Seedless (Sultani Çekirdeksiz) (progenitor of seedless vinifera variety) and Kalecik Karasi (one of the best quality wine grape variety of Turkey). Mutant candidates were selected through morphological observations of mutation-induced phenotypic changes during the first, second and third vegetation periods after radiation applications. Amplification studies started with 50 primers (expressed sequence tags) applied to the mutated individuals. Only 15 of these primers revealed polymorphic profiles. Twenty-two candidate mutants of Thompson Seedless and Kalecik Karasi, selected based on morphological observations, were analyzed with 15 single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) markers, together with 46 control plants. Polymorphic bands were rarely obtained in the SSCP analysis, and they were not reproducible.

RESUMO

Phytochemicals such as curcumin have great potential in cancer prevention and treatment. However, instability and low aqueous solubility of free curcumin weaken its anticancer potential. These undesirable problems can be avoided upon loading curcumin into nanoparticles containing biocompatible and biodegradable polymers such as poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA), liposomes or micelles. The interaction of drugs and release control can be further enhanced upon inclusion of clay minerals into the PLGA containing nanoparticles. Such nanoparticles offer a new way for cancer drug delivery systems. However, the role of the clay mineral in the resulting composite is not fully understood. Therefore, in this study, we carried out systematic adsorption studies of curcumin anticancer drug on montmorillonite (MMT) nanoparticles in the presence of amphiphilic polymer (PLGA) and in an aqueous environment to understand the contribution of the layered clay structure using cluster (B97-D), periodic DFT and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in acidic and natural pH media. It has been found that MMT has high affinity towards either polymer or drug molecules especially due to vdW interactions. Furthermore, it has been observed that MMT facilitates the release of curcumin. Current findings suggest that a composite consisting of MMT and PLGA might be used to deliver the anticancer agent curcumin.
