RESUMO

Entomological surveys in the Moroccan Western Rif have led to record the subfamily Hybotinae for the first time in Morocco, with two species of the genus Hybos Meigen (Hybos culiciformis Fabricius and Hybos striatellus Villeneuve), and one species of Syndyas Loew (Syndyas subsabinios Chvála) recorded for the first time from Africa, and constitutes the first occurrence of the genus Syndyas in North Africa. In addition, Chillcottomyia Saigusa and Lamachella Melander are recorded for the first time from the Mediterranean Region with two undescribed species represented by single females. A key of Moroccan Hybotinae genera is provided.

RESUMO

Trichina Meigen, 1830, Euthyneura Macquart, 1836 and Oedalea Meigen, 1820 are reported for the first time in North Africa from northern Morocco, with seven species including two ones new to science, based on material collected at nine sites located in the Moroccan sector of the Mediterranean Intercontinental Biosphere reserve (MIBR). These new records represent also the first evidence of the occurrence of Trichininae and Oedaleinae subfamilies throughout North Africa and bring the total of Moroccan hybotid fauna to 51 species. The new species are described and illustrated. A key to MoroccanTrichina species is provided.

RESUMO

The faunistic knowledge of the Diptera of Morocco recorded from 1787 to 2021 is summarized and updated in this first catalogue of Moroccan Diptera species. A total of 3057 species, classified into 948 genera and 93 families (21 Nematocera and 72 Brachycera), are listed. Taxa (superfamily, family, genus and species) have been updated according to current interpretations, based on reviews in the literature, the expertise of authors and contributors, and recently conducted fieldwork. Data to compile this catalogue were primarily gathered from the literature. In total, 1225 references were consulted and some information was also obtained from online databases. Each family was reviewed and the checklist updated by the respective taxon expert(s), including the number of species that can be expected for that family in Morocco. For each valid species, synonyms known to have been used for published records from Morocco are listed under the currently accepted name. Where available, distribution within Morocco is also included. One new combination is proposed: Assuaniamelanoleuca (Séguy, 1941), comb. nov. (Chloropidae).

RESUMO

We here report the case of a 6-year old female patient with no pathological history, presenting with diffuse abdominal pain and abdominal distension evolving in the last 2 months. The patient had a deterioration in her general condition. Clinical examination showed distended abdomen, average abundance ascites, venous collateral circulation and multiple mobile hard abdominal masses measuring 3-4 cm in diameter at the level of the iliac fossa and of the left hypochondriac region associated with a well circumscribed, hard, rounded umbilical mass measuring 3cm in diameter lifting the skin with inflammatory signs (A). The remainder of the physical examination was normal. Thoraco-abdominal CT scan showed subcutaneous umbilical nodule (B), with homogeneous enhancement measuring 36x29x19mm, associated with mesenteric lymphadenopathy magmas, pelvic mass and extended jejunum thickening. Fine needle aspiration biopsy of the mass showed the presence of several naked nuclei and a few blasts. Biopsy showed Burkitt lymphoma. Therefore, the diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma revealed by sister Marie-Josèphe nodule was retained and the patient underwent chemotherapy according the LMB01 protocol. Outcome was favorable, marked by the regression of the nodule and of the abdominal masses. Sister Mary Joseph nodule is an umbilical metastasis from a tumor (usually an abdomino pelvic tumor) mainly an adenocarcinoma, exceptionally a lymphoma. It is a rare sign. It accounts for 1-3% of all abdomino-pelvic neoplasms and it is associated with poor prognosis. It is essential to know that this nodule is a lesion secondary to solid tumor in order to avoid delayed management of the underlying neoplasm.

RESUMO

Three genera of Mythicomyiidae are newly recorded from Morocco: Glabellula, Mythenteles, and Leylaiya. A total of 8 species of Mythicomyiidae are currently known from the country; of those, 3 new species are described and illustrated: Glabellula maroccana Evenhuis Kettani, n. sp.; Mythenteles signifera Evenhuis Kettani, n. sp. and Leylaiya pellea Evenhuis Kettani, n. sp. A key to the genera of Mythicomyiidae in Morocco is presented.
