Recently, as air pollution and particulate matter worsen, the importance of a platform that can monitor the air environment is emerging. Especially, among air pollutants, nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is a toxic gas that can not only generate secondary particulate matter, but can also derive numerous toxic gases. To detect such NO2 gas at low concentration, we fabricated a GNWs/NiO-WO3/GNWs heterostructure-based gas sensor using microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) and sputter, and we confirmed the NO2 detection characteristics between 10 and 50 ppm at room temperature. The morphology and carbon lattice characteristics of the sensing layer were investigated using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and Raman spectroscopy. In the gas detection measurement, the resistance negative change according to the NO2 gas concentration was recorded. Moreover, it reacted even at low concentrations such as 5-7 ppm, and showed excellent recovery characteristics of more than 98%. Furthermore, it also showed a change in which the reactivity decreased with respect to humidity of 33% and 66%.

Reaching a flat network is the main target of future evolved packet core for the 5G mobile networks. The current 4th generation core network is centralized architecture, including Serving Gateway and Packet-data-network Gateway; both act as mobility and IP anchors. However, this architecture suffers from non-optimal routing and intolerable latency due to many control messages. To overcome these challenges, we propose a partially distributed architecture for 5th generation networks, such that the control plane and data plane are fully decoupled. The proposed architecture is based on including a node Multi-session Gateway to merge the mobility and IP anchor gateway functionality. This work presented a control entity with the full implementation of the control plane to achieve an optimal flat network architecture. The impact of the proposed evolved packet Core structure in attachment, data delivery, and mobility procedures is validated through simulation. Several experiments were carried out by using NS-3 simulation to validate the results of the proposed architecture. The Numerical analysis is evaluated in terms of total transmission delay, inter and intra handover delay, queuing delay, and total attachment time. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture performance-enhanced end-to-end latency over the legacy architecture.

Little is known about the characteristics that make patients with acute leukemia suitable for undergoing salvage therapy by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Here, we analyzed the clinical outcomes of 223 patients with acute leukemia who underwent allo-HSCT while not in complete remission (CR). The primary end points were overall survival (OS) and CR rate. CR was achieved in 79.8% of patients after allo-HSCT. Acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) was significantly associated with CR (P = 0.045). During a median follow-up of 30.1 months, the median OS was 6.1 months. OS was significantly longer in patients with good or standard risk cytogenetic characteristics than in those with poor risk cytogenetic characteristics (P = 0.029, P = 0.030, respectively). Patients who received allo-HSCT from a matched sibling donor had better survival than those with unrelated donors (P = 0.015). Primary chemorefractoriness was not associated with poor survival (P = 0.071). The number of chemotherapies before allo-HSCT was significantly correlated with outcome (P = 0.006). Chronic GVHD was a strong predictor of a longer OS (P = 0.025). In conclusion, survival of patients with primary chemorefractory acute leukemia is not lower when treated upfront with allo-HSCT. Hence, allo-HSCT should be actively considered in such patients. Acute and chronic GVHD is associated with better outcomes patients with acute leukemia who have undergone allo-HSCT and not achieved CR.

This study was designed to evaluate the prevalence of chromosomal abnormalities and to identify the specific abnormalities associated with poor prognosis. A total of 2,474 patients whose conventional cytogenetics were available at the time of diagnosis were evaluated via a nationwide registry. Normal metaphase cytogenetics was observed in 2,012 patients (81.3%). Among the 462 patients with chromosomal abnormalities, there were 161 (34.8%) patients with hyperdiploidy, 197 (42.6%) with pseudodiploidy, 79 (17.1%) with hypodiploidy, and 25 (5.5%) with near-tetraploidy. Deletion 13 (Δ13) in metaphase was observed in 167 patients (6.8%). Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) was carried out in 967 patients (39.1%), and 66 (13.7%) out of 482 and 63 (10.3%) out of 611 patients were positive for t(4;14) and del(17p), respectively. With a median follow-up duration of 25.1 months, the median overall survival (OS) was 51.2 months (95% confidence interval, 46.5-55.9 months). In univariate analysis, the following four chromosomal abnormalities were significantly associated with a poor survival outcome: Δ13, hypodiploidy, del(13q) in FISH, and del(17p) in FISH. In the subsequent multivariate analysis, in which del(13q) and del(17p) in FISH were excluded due to a relatively low number of patients, Δ13 and hypodiploid status were independently associated with a poor survival outcome after adjusting for important clinical factors, including age, sex, performance, beta2-microglobulin, albumin, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Using conventional metaphase cytogenetics, we confirmed that both Δ13 and hypodiploid status were robust poor prognostic factors. The metaphase karyotyping should remain the primary cytogenetic tool and an essential investigation for risk stratification in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients.

We performed a phase II trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the modified fludarabine, cytarabine, and attenuated-dose idarubicin (m-FLAI) regimen in elderly acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. Elderly (≥60 years) AML patients who had not previously received chemotherapy were enrolled in the study. Patients received two consecutive cycles of m-FLAI chemotherapy as an induction. The m-FLAI regimen comprised fludarabine (25 mg/m(2) , days 1-4), cytarabine (1,000 mg/m(2) , days 1-4), and attenuated-dose idarubicin (5 mg/m(2) , days 1-3). The primary end point was complete remission (CR) rate. Secondary end points were overall survival (OS), event-free survival (EFS), and treatment-related mortality (TRM). There were 108 patients (median age 68.4 years, M:F = 64:44) enrolled in the study. CR was achieved in 56.5% of patients, and the TRM rate was 21.3%. Median OS and median EFS were 10.2 and 6.6 months, respectively. The mortality at 30 and 60 days was 15 and 21%, respectively. Performance status and comorbidity did not have prognostic value in this patient cohort. Bone marrow expression of CD117 was associated with increased EFS and OS. m-FLAI is an effective induction regimen for previously untreated AML in elderly patients. In addition, bone-marrow CD117 expression is an independent favorable prognostic factor in elderly AML patients. (ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT01247493).

The rapid urbanization and the increasing need for sustainable development have led to the emergence of green roof landscapes in ocean cities. These rooftop gardens provide numerous environmental benefits and contribute to the overall well-being of urban dwellers. However, optimizing the design and interaction experience of green roof landscapes requires the integration of intelligent technologies. This paper explores the application of computer visual design techniques, specifically 3DMAX modeling and virtual reality, in the intelligent interaction design of green roof landscape plants in ocean cities. Designers can use computer visual design (3DMAX) and other technologies to interact intelligently with the roof landscape in order to improve landscape design. Through case studies, this indicated that computer vision is excellent for image processing of rooftop landscapes and also demonstrates a high degree of compatibility between computer vision and green rooftop landscape plant design in marine cities. This paper highlights the significance of intelligent interaction design and computer visual design techniques in optimizing the integration of green roof landscape plants in ocean cities. It emphasizes the potential of 3DMAX modeling and VR technology in creating immersive and engaging experiences for designers, users, and stakeholders alike. The findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge in the field of sustainable urban development and provide insights for designers, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance green roof landscapes in ocean cities. The dissertation highlights the potential of using computer vision design techniques to enhance the roof garden landscaping process and advocates for more efficient and effective ways to design, visualize, and improve rooftop gardens by utilizing software equipped with computer vision technology such as 3DMAX, ultimately contributing to the advancement of sustainable urban landscapes.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a highly sensitive technique for detecting DNA, proteins, and single molecules. The design of SERS substrates plays a crucial role, with the density of hotspots being a key factor in enhancing Raman spectra. In this study, we employed carbon nanowall (CNW) as the nanostructure and embedded plasmonic nanoparticles (PNPs) to increase hotspot density, resulting in robust Raman signals. To enhance the CNW's performance, we functionalized it via oxygen plasma and embedded silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). The authors evaluated the substrate using rhodamine 6G (R6G) as a model target molecule, ranging in concentration from 10-6 M to 10-10 M for a 4 min exposure. Our analysis confirmed a proportional increase in Raman signal intensity with an increase in concentration. The CNW's large specific surface area and graphene domains provide dense hotspots and high charge mobility, respectively, contributing to both the electromagnetic mechanism (EM) and the chemical mechanism (CM) of SERS.

At present, there is a growing focus on the landscape and environment of ocean cities, with an increasing demand for improved ecological sustainability and aesthetic appeal. With the emergence of computer vision design technologies such as 3D and VR, people have overcome the limitations of traditional paper-based design materials. Through the use of computer software, various forms of expression, such as drawings and animations, can be produced, thereby meeting the diverse demands for showcasing plant landscapes. The purpose of this paper is to study the design of marine urban (MU) botanical landscapes based on computer vision technology (CVT) and multimodal interaction design (MID) theory, so that the design of MU botanical landscape can meet people's psychological behavior and visual needs, and at the same time enable people to participate in and experience the landscape, so as to better meet people's needs for viewing, leisure, and entertainment. At the same time, it is hoped that the research of this paper will play a role in promoting the innovation and development of the concept of MU landscape design (LD) in the future, specifically from two levels of theoretical and practical significance. First, at the level of theoretical research: Based on the theory of MID, this paper explores the application of communication and interaction among humans and between humans and the landscape in the design of MU planting, and tries to explore and summarize the content and methods of interactive LD in marine cities with a theoretical basis and research value. The goal is to both enhance the theoretical level of interactive LD, and also provide new reference for future marine city (MC) LD. Second, at the level of practical application: In the field of LD, the new concept of computer vision is introduced to fully understand the visual needs of people and increase the practicality and pleasantness of the MU landscape, hoping to attract more people to come to play and rest. Through the attraction of MU landscapes to tourists, the design and construction of the landscape no longer focus on its appearance, but rather on the participation and experience of people.

Carbon is a material with interesting properties which exists in large quantities on Earth, so many studies involving carbon have been conducted. In particular, nano-sized carbon allotropes, referred to as carbon nanomaterials, comprise the subject of various studies currently underway. The electrical, chemical, physical properties of carbon nanowalls (CNWs) are modified by parameters such as surface density, height and thickness. These characteristics have significant effects on CNWs and can be adjusted as a growth interlayer. It was confirmed that the molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) interlayer synthesized in this paper by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering altered the morphological characteristics of the CNWs, including its shaped edge, pores diameter and density. We provide interesting results through FE-SEM, EDS and Raman analysis in this paper. Based on the Raman analysis, both the D-peak of carbon and the ID/IG ratio decreased. Through this study, the effect of MoS2 on the morphological characteristics of CNWs was confirmed.

This guideline focuses on the primary prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in Korea. The guidelines should be individualized and aim at patients scheduled for major surgery, as well as patients with a history of trauma, high-risk pregnancy, cancer, or other severe medical illnesses. Currently, no nation-wide data on the incidence of VTE exist, and randomized controlled trials aiming at the prevention of VTE in Korea have yielded few results. Therefore, these guidelines were based on the second edition of the Japanese Guidelines for the Prevention of VTE and the eighth edition of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Evidenced-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines. These guidelines establish low-, moderate-, and high-risk groups, and recommend appropriate thromboprophylaxis for each group.

This paper investigates the influence of two types of gait perturbation (i.e., trip and slip) induced by a programmable split-belt treadmill on the body's compensatory responses. Our fall-inducing technology equipped with a commercially available programmable split-belt treadmill provides unpredictable trip and slip perturbations during walking. Two force plates beneath the split-belt treadmill and a motion capture system quantify the body's kinetic and kinematic behaviors, and a wireless surface electromyography (EMG) system evaluates the lower limb muscle activity. Twenty healthy young adults participated. The perturbations (i.e., trip and slip) were applied randomly to the participant's left foot between the 31st and 40th steps. The kinetic and kinematic behaviors and lower limb muscle activity were assessed during the standing, walking, and recovery periods. Compared with trip perturbations, stepping responses to slip perturbations were quicker and trunk, shoulder, and whole body center of mass movements after slip perturbations were higher; the EMG results showed that tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius, rectus femoris, and biceps femoris activities were also higher. The two common types of gait perturbation (i.e., trip and slip) induced by a commercially available programmable split-belt treadmill influenced the body's compensatory responses.

A novel combined treatment of conventional chemotherapy with an intratumoral injection of syngeneic dendritic cells (DCs) has emerged as a potent cancer treatment strategy. In this study, we evaluated the synergistic effect of an intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of a chemotherapeutic drug, paclitaxel, and an intratumoral (i.t.) injection of syngeneic bone marrow-derived DCs for the treatment of pre-existing fibrosarcoma. Subcutaneous tumors were established using MCA102 fibrosarcoma cells in syngeneic C57BL/6 mice. The results demonstrated that the combined treatment of paclitaxel chemotherapy and the injection of DCs led to complete tumor regression, in contrast to only partial eradication of the tumors with chemotherapy or DCs alone. Furthermore, the tumor-free mice were able to resist a repeat challenge with the same type of tumor. These findings suggest that a combination therapy of systemic chemotherapy along with the intratumoral administration of DCs is a potent treatment strategy for fibrosarcoma.

RESUMO

Since an atomic force microscope is used to measure sub-nanometer level precision, it is sensitive to external vibration. If the vibration can be measured by using an additional sensor, we can obtain the vibration-free signal by subtracting the vibration signal from the signal containing the vibration. To achieve a highly effective vibration rejection ratio, it is important to decide where to locate the additional sensor. This is because the vibration measured at the sensing position should have the same phase as that of the vibration in the signal. Vibration reduction control using this electrical sensing method is verified through time domain analysis and topology images of a standard grid sample.

Vibration is a key factor to be considered when designing the mechanical components of a high precision and high speed atomic force microscope (AFM). It is required to design the mechanical components so that they have resonant frequencies higher than the external and internal vibration frequencies. In this work, the mechanical vibration in a conventional AFM system is analyzed by considering its mechanical components, and a vibration reduction is then achieved by reconfiguring the mechanical components. To analyze the mechanical vibration, a schematic of the lumped model of the AFM system is derived and the vibrational influences of the AFM components are experimentally examined. Based on this vibration analysis, a reconfigured AFM system is proposed and its effects are compared to a conventional system through a series of simulations and experiments.

INTRODUCTION: To determine whether genetic variations in CMPK1 or RRM1, which impact the pharmacodynamics of gemcitabine, differentially affect the outcomes of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with gemcitabine or taxane/cisplatinum. METHODS: We conducted retrospective study evaluating the associations between overall survival in 298 NSCLC patients at stages IIIA/IIIB (140) and IV (158), treated with gemcitabine (139) or taxane (159)/cisplatinum and 14 tagging single-nucleotide polymorphisms (tSNPs): 4 in CMPK1 and 10 in RRM1. RESULTS: The wild-type genotypes of CMPK1 IVS1+1057 and IVS1-928 were associated with shorter overall survival in patients treated with the gemcitabine/cisplatinum (adjusted hazards ratio = 1.97 and 1.89; Cox pBonferroni = 0.008 and 0.020), whereas this effect was not observed in patients treated with taxane/cisplatinum. No associations were observed for the other 2 CMPK1 or 10 RRM1 tSNPs. Analysis of the interaction between the CMPK1 and RRM1 genes showed that the survival of patients with CMPK1 IVS1+1057 CC and RRM1 IVS1-2374 TT, IVS7+25 AA, IVS7-425 AA, or IVS8+287 TT was significantly shorter when they were treated with the gemcitabine/cisplatinum (adjusted hazards ratio = 3.00, 2.89, 3.14, and 3.00; Cox pBonferroni = 0.007, 0.012, 0.006, and 0.007). However, these effects were not observed in patients treated with taxane/cisplatinum. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that polymorphisms of CMPK1 and their combination with those of RRM1 are helpful in identifying patients who will benefit less from a gemcitabine/cisplatinum as the first-line regimen.

AIM: To characterize single-cell-derived mouse clonal mesenchymal stem cells (mcMSCs) established with bone marrow samples from three different mouse strains. METHODS: We established mcMSC lines using subfractionation culturing method from bone marrow samples obtained from long bones. These lines were characterized by measuring cell growth, cell surface epitopes, differentiation potential, lineage-specific gene expression and T-cell suppression capability. Nonclonal MSCs isolated by the conventional gradient centrifugation method were used as controls. RESULTS: All mcMSC lines showed typical nonclonal MSC-like spindle shape morphology. Lines differed in optimal growth density requirement. Cell surface epitope profiles of these mcMSC lines were similar to those of nonclonal MSCs. However, some lines exhibited different expression levels in a few epitopes, such as CD44 and CD105. Differentiation assays showed that 90% of the mcMSC lines were capable of differentiating into adipogenic and/or chondrogenic lineages, but only 20% showed osteogenic lineage differentiation. T-cell suppression analysis showed that 75% of the lines exhibited T-cell suppression capability. CONCLUSION: mcMSC lines have similar cell morphology and cell growth rate but exhibit variations in their cell surface epitopes, differentiation potential, lineage-specific gene expression and T-cell suppression capability.

Peliosis hepatis is a rare pathological entity and may cause fatal hepatic hemorrhage and liver failure. Here, we present a young male patient with aplastic anemia, who had received long-term treatment with oxymetholone. The patient suffered from sudden onset of intra-abdominal hemorrhage with profuse hemoperitoneum. The patient was treated successfully with a right hemihepatectomy and is in good health after 13 postoperative months. We suggest that peliosis hepatis be considered in patients with hepatic parenchymal hematoma, especially in patients under prolonged synthetic anabolic steroid medication. The possibility of a potentially life-threatening complication of massive intra-abdominal bleeding should also be considered.

RESUMO

The mesengenic multipotency of cryopreserved periosteum-derived progenitor cells (PDPCs) for chondrogenesis, osteogenesis and adipogenesis was investigated. Differentiation was verified using RT-PCR and histological analysis. For characterization, FACS analysis was performed with specific surface markers of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Among PDPCs, unsorted periosteum-derived cells (PDCs) and dermal fibroblasts, the most distinct characteristics were found to be CD9, CD105, and CD166. In addition, these markers in PDPCs were continuously maintained until passage 15. We developed a rapid method for the isolation of PDPCs that can differentiate into mesodermal lineages and provide enough cells in a short period of time for allogeneic cell therapy.

PURPOSE: To determine whether germ-line variations in BRCA1 affect outcome in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with platinum combination chemotherapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We evaluated the associations of four tagging BRCA1 polymorphisms and their haplotypes with treatment outcome in 300 NSCLC patients at stages IIIA (16%), IIIB (31%), and IV (53%). RESULTS: The median age was 63 years (range, 28 to 89 years). Histologically, 139 (46.3%) of the patients had squamous cell carcinomas and 137 (45.7%) had adenocarcinomas. Patient median survival time (MST) was 13.0 months. We observed no significant association between any of the tagging polymorphisms [S1613G, IVS13-1893 (A>C), IVS12-1207 (C>T), and IVS12+112 (C>A)] and overall survival. Of the five haplotypes evaluated (AACC, AACA, GCTC, GATC, and AATC), the survival of patients with two copies of the AACC (wild-type) haplotype was significantly shorter than that of patients with zero to one copies (MST, 8.47 v 14.57 months; log-rank P = .0066), even after adjustment for body weight loss, performance status, stage, second-line treatment, and radiation therapy (hazard ratio = 2.097; 95% CI, 1.339 to 3.284). The survival of patients with squamous cell carcinoma and two copies was significantly shorter than that of other patients with squamous cell carcinoma (MST, 6.8 v 15.3 months; log-rank P = 3.6 x 10(-5)), whereas differences in survival between the two adenocarcinoma groups was not significant (log-rank P = .677). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that the AACC haplotype of the BRCA1 gene is an important prognostic marker in NSCLC patients treated with platinum combination chemotherapy.

AIM: To evaluate the cause of elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in patients with transrectal needle biopsy negative for prostate cancer. METHODS: Serum PSA concentration, prostate volume, and pathologic findings were examined in 223 patients with negative biopsy for prostate cancer. The degree of prostate inflammation was determined by the extent and degree of inflammation shown by biopsy specimens and is expressed as an inflammation score (range: 0-36). RESULTS: A significant correlation was found between PSA concentration and prostate total volume (P=0.0001). Prostate chronic inflammation showed no correlation with PSA concentration (P=0.485, F=0.488). After allocating patients to normal PSA (4 ng/mL) groups, we found that serum PSA concentrations in both groups were predominantly affected by prostate total volume. CONCLUSIONS: An increase in prostate volume appears to be the major contributor to a high serum PSA concentration in patients with negative biopsy for prostate cancer. However, in contrast to previous reports, there was no correlation between the degree of prostate chronic inflammation and serum PSA concentrations.
