RESUMO

The 50 Hz frequency electric field was applied to guinea pigs at different times of the day. The electric field effects upon the alanine and asparagine aminotransferase in supernatant, mitochondrial and nuclear fractions of guinea pig liver were observed. The highest increase in alanine aminotransferase activity was observed in the mitochondrial fraction, whereas asparagine transferase exhibited the highest activity increase in the supernatant fraction. Those changes may be indicative of adverse effects of electric field upon the liver cell metabolism.

RESUMO

The 50 Hz frequency electric field was applied to guinea pigs at different times of the day. The effects of electric field upon RNA and soluble proteins level in nuclear, mitochondrial and supernatant guinea pigs liver were tested. An increase in RNA and soluble proteins content in all the test fractions was found, as dependent on the time of stimulus application.

RESUMO

50 Hz high tension (HT) electric field is not indifferent to the health of human beings and living organisms within the range of its effects. The electric field effects may be illustrated by man's EEG and blood changes, plants cellular structure, or an increase in animals' body weight and some organs. The work has been aimed at demonstrating that the electric field of 100 kV/m intensity and 50 Hz frequency affects selected biochemical parameters of guinea pigs' liver. The experiments have shown statistical changes in nucleic acid soluble proteins and alanine and asparagine aminotransferases.

RESUMO

Guinea pigs were exposed to electric field of 50 Hz in different times of day. Activity of aldolase and malate dehydrogenase in whole liver homogenate as well as in nuclear, mitochondrial and supernatant liver fractions of guinea pigs was examined. A remarkable increase in enzyme activity in all studied groups was observed which may prove that a relevant electric stimulus can result in certain disorders in carbohydrate changes in liver cells.

RESUMO

This paper presents a simple reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of retinol, and alpha- and gamma-tocopherols in human serum using a fluorescence detector. For chromatographic separation a binary gradient was used: phase A; acetonitrile-butanol (95:5); phase B; water, at a flow-rate of 1.5 ml/min. Serum retinol, and alpha- and gamma-tocopherol levels were measured in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Small sample requirement, good reproducibility and sensitivity make this method useful for the determination of the serum levels of these compounds in patients with diabetes mellitus.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to characterize glycosaminoglycan components in human palatal tonsils and to determine whether the proportions of individual glycosaminoglycans change with bacterial infection of the palatal tonsils and after recovery. The changes in glycosaminoglycans' content in the course of tonsillitis were mainly related to heparin and chondroitin-4-sulphate (increase) and hyaluronic acid (decrease). After recovery the polydispersity of glycosaminoglycans was found to be comparable to that in normal palatal tonsils.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to determine whether the proportions of individual glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) change with bacterial infection of the human palatal tonsils and after recovery as compared with the physiological state of the palatal tonsils. In tonsillitis the greatest changes were related to hyaluronic acid (decrease) and heparin (increase). In the cured palatal tonsils the content of GAG components was found to return to that of the physiological state of the tonsils. The changes in GAG components in the cured palatal tonsils may possible contribute to the reversal of the human tonsillitis. The supposition is drawn that also physiological function of the cured tonsils is resumed.

RESUMO

A drug-induced collagen-like syndrome was produced in rats by hydralazine administration for 8, 9 and 10 months. The hyaluronic acid content and the hyaluronidase activity in liver and spleen were studied. A decrease in the hyaluronic acid amount was accompanied by an enhanced activity of hyaluronidase in both tissues. The results provide evidence for metabolic disturbances of glycosaminoglycans in the connective tissue in the collagen disease-like syndrome.

RESUMO

Fibroblast cultures exposed to the drugs inducing a collagen-like syndrome (hydralazine and binazine) displayed growth inhibition and decrease in cellular protein content in a dose-dependent manner compared with control cultures. This was accompanied by the inhibitory effect of the drugs on DNA synthesis. The changes in the basic biochemical parameters of fibroblasts testify to the toxicity of hydrazinophthalazines in the connective tissue.

RESUMO

The paper presents the behaviour of DNA, RNA and soluble proteins in whole homogenate as well as the nuclear, mitochondrial and postmitochondrial liver fractions in guinea pigs exposed to combustion exhaust gases and the products of their reaction with ammonia. A decrease of RNA level was found in the liver of animals exposed to combustion exhaust gases together with a decrease of soluble proteins in all the studied fractions. On the other hand, in the group of animals subjected to the action of neutralization products of combustion gases by ammonia, the studied components were increased. This increase may be the result of the simultaneous action of industrial noise.

RESUMO

Cattle tissues (liver, kidney, brain, and lung) that had been polluted with heavy metals were tested for their ability to alter fibroblast culture growth, cellular protein and DNA content, and fibroblast DNA synthesis. At 72 hr of incubation a significant increase in cellular DNA and [14C]thymidine incorporation was noted in the primary cultures as well as in the subcultures compared to controls. Fibroblast cultures also displayed growth inhibition and reduction in protein content. The measurement of basic biochemical parameters of the fibroblast culture may represent a sensitive means of assessing rapidly the activity of heavy metals deposited in the tissues of cattle as a result of their grazing on polluted soil.
