RESUMO

PURPOSE: Inflammation is thought to be a vital element in the etiology of cancer-related fatigue (CRF), and circulating blood cell parameters could be important markers of inflammatory response. However, the associations of several major blood cell counts and their derived inflammatory indices with CRF are not well described. The present study aimed to establish whether a relationship exists between the counts of three white blood cell (WBC) types, platelets, and CRF and investigate whether several systemic inflammatory indices were associated with CRF in patients with breast cancer (BC). METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with a sample of 824 patients with BC undergoing chemotherapy. The cancer fatigue scale was administered to assess CRF. Hematological indicators, including neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, and platelets, were retrieved from routine blood test. Network analyses were used to examine the associations among them. RESULTS: Among 824 participants, the mean score of CRF was (27 ± 10), ranging from 0 to 57. The results of network models indicated that physical fatigue was negatively linked to lymphocyte counts (weight = - 0.161), and affective fatigue was positively associated with neutrophil counts (weight = 0.070). Additionally, physical fatigue was positively linked to the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) (weight = 0.049). CONCLUSION: There were preliminary associations of counts of three WBC types, platelet counts, and systemic inflammatory indices, with distinct dimensions of CRF in patients with BC. Findings provide empirical support for the cellular basis of fatigue-associated inflammatory states.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the combined effects of mindfulness and psychological capital on mental health of breast cancer patients and to examine the mediating effect of positive emotions in their relationship. METHODS: A convenient sampling method was used in this study, and 522 breast cancer patients aged 18 to 59 who received chemotherapy in a tertiary cancer hospital were enrolled. Polynomial regression with response surface analysis was mainly employed to explore the relationship between mindfulness, psychological capital, and mental health. A block-variable approach was used to verify the mediating effect of positive emotions. RESULTS: In cases of congruence, mental health was better when mindfulness and psychological capital were both high instead of being both low (the slope of the congruence was 0.540, p < 0.001); In cases of incongruence, poorer mental health was found in breast cancer patients with low psychological capital and high mindfulness compared with those who had high psychological capital and low mindfulness (the slope of the incongruence was -0.338, p < 0.001), and the combined effects were a positive curve (positive U-shaped) related to mental health (ß = 0.102, p = 0.040). In addition, positive emotions played a mediating role in the relationship between the block variable (mindfulness and psychological capital) and mental health, and the indirect effect was 0.131. CONCLUSIONS: This study expanded the research on the effects of mindfulness and psychological capital in improving mental health as well as the conflict between the two variables related to mental health by employing a new analytical technique among breast cancer patients.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Although a cancer diagnosis and stoma creation leave colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors with significant limitations on participation in life activities that would impair their global quality of life (QoL), the underlying psychological mechanisms are understudied. The aim of this cross-section study was to examine whether psychological distress mediates the association of limitations on participation in life activity with global QoL, and whether family functioning moderated the indirect effects of limitations on participation in life activities on global QoL through psychological distress. METHODS: CRC survivors with permanent stomas (n = 282) completed questionnaires assessing socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, limitations on participation in life activities, psychological distress, family functioning, and global QoL. The mediation model and moderated mediation model were conducted using the PROCESS macro for SPSS. RESULTS: Mediation analysis showed that the association of limitations on participation in life activities with global QoL was partially mediated by psychological distress (indirect effect = -0.087, 95% CI = -0.135 to -0.041). Moderated mediation analysis indicated that the indirect effects of limitations on participation in life activities on global QoL through psychological distress were significantly moderated by family functioning. Specifically, the indirect effects decreased were significant as family functioning levels increased. CONCLUSION: CRC survivors with permanent stomas experienced poor global QoL. The moderated mediation model provides a better understanding of how limitations on participation in life activities, psychological distress, and family functioning work together to affect global QoL. Interventions aiming to improve QoL among CRC survivors with permanent stomas should consider targeting these aspects.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: High sedentary behavior and poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL) were common among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, the association of sedentary behavior with HRQoL among infertile women with PCOS is still unknown. This study aimed to investigate the association of sedentary behavior with HRQoL among them. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 283 participants recruited from infertility outpatient clinic. A self-administered, structured questionnaire including the modified PCOS health-related QoL questionnaire (MPCOSQ), the International Physical Activity Questionnaire short form (IPAQ-SF), the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) was used. Anthropometric and laboratory indictors related to PCOS were also collected. Multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to identify the associations. Bonferroni correction was utilized for multiple testing correction. RESULTS: Sedentary behavior was associated with reduced HRQoL among this group. Specifically, over seven hours per day of sedentary behavior was strongly associated with total and several aspects of HRQoL (ß ranged from - 0.378 to - 0.141, all P < 0.0063) after adjusting for physical activity, anxiety and depression. In addition, elevated BMI (ß = - 0.407, P < 0.001) and anxiety (ß ranged from - 0.410 to - 0.245, all P < 0.0063) were associated with poor HRQoL, while physical activity and depression were not. CONCLUSION: Sedentary behavior is an important behavior among infertile women with PCOS as it was associated with poorer HRQoL. Future interventions seeking to improve HRQoL should be considered to reduce sedentary behavior and psychological burden as primary intervention targets.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP-1) are involved in the pathological mechanism of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). This study aimed to investigate the relationship of serum MMP-9, TIMP-1, and the MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio with disease severity in patients with nontraumatic ONFH. METHODS: Serum levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 among 102 nontraumatic ONFH patients and 96 healthy individuals were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Imaging severity was determined using the FICAT classification system. The Harris hip score (HHS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) were used to evaluate clinical progress. The correlations of serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 levels with imaging severity and clinical progress was evaluated statistically. The diagnostic value of MMP-9 for NONFH disease severity was evaluated by examining receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS: The serum MMP-9 levels and the MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio were significantly increased in patients with ONFH compared to normal controls, and TIMP-1 levels did not differ between the two groups. Serum MMP-9 levels and the MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio were positively correlated with FICAT stage and VAS and were negatively correlated with the HHS score. The ROC curve results indicated that MMP-9 could be used as a potential marker of nontraumatic ONFH imaging progression. CONCLUSIONS: We hypothesize that increased MMP-9 expression and an imbalance in the MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio play a role in the development of ONFH and are correlate with the severity of ONFH. The determination of MMP-9 can be a useful tool to assess the severity of the disease in patients with nontraumatic ONFH.

RESUMO

AIMS: The aim of this study is to introduce the Copenhagen Multi-Centre Psychosocial Infertility (COMPI)-Fertility Problem Stress Scales (COMPI-FPSS) into China and test its applicability in Chinese infertile population. BACKGROUND: Infertility-related stress not only influences patients' psychological well-being but is also strongly associated with reduced pregnancy rates and poorer assisted conception outcomes, thus warranting focussed attention. DESIGN: The design used in this study is a cross-sectional survey. METHODS: A total of 418 participants were recruited by convenience sampling from March to July 2022. The data were randomly divided into two parts: one for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis and the other for confirmatory factor analysis and reliability test. The critical ratio and homogeneity test were used to verify the differentiation and homogeneity of the COMPI-FPSS; the construct validity was determined by explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses; Cronbach's α coefficient and Spearman-Brown coefficient were used to assess the reliability; and criterion validity was expressed using correlation coefficients for the Perceived Stress Scale and the Negative Affect Scale as the validity criteria. RESULTS: The revised Chinese version of COMPI-FPSS has 11 items and 2 dimensions (i.e., personal stress domain and social stress domain). Exploratory factor analysis showed that the cumulative variance contribution rate of the two factors was 68.6%, and confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the model fitted well. The score of the COMPI-FPSS was significantly and positively associated with perceived stress and negative affect. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the total scale was 0.905, and the Spearman-Brown coefficient was 0.836, explaining excellent reliability. CONCLUSION: The revised Chinese version of COMPI-FPSS shows good reliability and validity, and it can be used to evaluate the infertility-related stress of infertile patients in China.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Although insomnia has been shown to play an important role in psychological distress among gastrointestinal cancer patients, little is known about the internal mechanisms underlying this relation. Coping styles have been shown to moderate the effect of sleep on emotion, and this moderating effect may be age-dependent. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to test how age and coping styles moderate the role of insomnia on psychological distress among gastrointestinal cancer patients. METHODS: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with a convenience sample. A total of 352 patients with gastrointestinal cancer from two tertiary hospitals were recruited to participate in this study. The Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, the Insomnia Severity Index, and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire were used to assess patients' psychological distress, insomnia, and coping styles, respectively. We performed hierarchical multiple regression and Johnson-Neyman statistical analysis to probe the moderating effect of coping styles and age. RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 58.32 years. Nearly half of the participants reported psychological distress, and many reported insomnia. Insomnia was significantly positively associated with psychological distress. Coping styles and age moderated the relationship between insomnia and distress. Specifically, positive coping buffered the effect of insomnia on psychological distress only for subjects aged 34 years and younger; negative coping exacerbated the above relationship in patients aged 68 years and older while weakening the relationship in participants aged 51 years and younger. DISCUSSION: There are age differences in the moderating role of coping styles on the relationship between insomnia and distress among gastrointestinal cancer patients. This study provides preliminary evidence to inform tailored guidance on coping styles by age groups to attenuate the risk for psychological distress related to insomnia in the cancer population.

RESUMO

The present study aimed to evaluate psychological distress and scrutinized whether family resilience plays a moderating role in the association between infertility-related stress and psychological distress among infertile females preparing for their first IVF-ET. A total of 492 infertile females completed self-reported measures including the Kessler 10 Psychological Distress Scale (K10), the fertility problem inventory (FPI), and the Family Resilience Assessment Scale (FRAS). The results showed 21 (65.2%) participants reported moderate or higher levels of psychological distress. While controlling for economic status, we found psychological distress to be positively linked to infertility-related stress (ß=0.483, P<0.001), and negatively related to family resilience (ß=-0.145, P=0.001). The simple slopes analysis showed that infertility-related stress had a weaker positive association with psychological distress for individuals at 1 SD (ß = 0.443, P < 0.001) above the mean on family resilience compared to those at 1 SD (ß = 0.537, P < 0.001) below the mean. Thus, it suggests that clinical practice should conduct family resilience-oriented interventions to facilitate family resilience among infertile females preparing for their first IVF-ET, with the goal to reduce psychological distress.

RESUMO

To determine if perceived stigma is positively associated with psychological distress, and examine if self-esteem has a moderating effect on the relationship between stigma and psychological distress among infertile Chinese couples. 369 infertile couples completed questionnaires including socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, stigma, self-esteem, and psychological distress. Stigma had a significant, positive association with psychological distress (r = 0.461, P < 0.01). Self-esteem moderated the association between stigma and psychological distress differently for men compared to women. Stigma had a positive, moderate association with psychological distress in men with high self-esteem compared to men with low self-esteem (t = 3.232, P < 0.01). However, there was no significant difference in the relationship between stigma and psychological distress between women with high and low self-esteem, tests of the simple slopes showed that non-significant difference of slopes between the two groups (t = -0.017, P = 0.987). The results indicate that self-esteem buffers the net effect of stigma on psychological distress in men but not women. Future research should focus on interventions that use self-esteem as a way to decrease the negative association of stigma with psychological distress, especially among men who are infertile and have low self-esteem.

RESUMO

Responsive molecular devices are one of the core units for molecular electronics, and dynamic covalent bonds (DCBs) provide the opportunity for the fabrication of responsive molecular devices. Herein we employ a single dynamic acyl hydrazone bond to fabricate tailored molecular devices using the scanning tunneling microscopy break-junction technique (STM-BJ) and the eutectic Ga-In technique (EGaIn). We found that the single-DCB-tailored molecular devices exhibited acid-base and/or photo-thermal response with three well-defined molecular conductance states. The reversible switching has the ON/OFF ratio of ≈10 between each state for single-molecule junctions and ≈3 for the SAMs-based molecular junctions. Combined with the density functional theory calculations, we revealed that the multiple conductance states of these molecular junctions originate from the dynamic acyl hydrazone bond exchange and C=N isomerization. Our work opens the avenue towards the design of tailored single-molecule electrical devices by implanting dynamic covalent bonds in molecular architectures.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the level of fertility related quality of life (FertiQoL) in women with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), and to further examine moderated mediation effects of dispositional mindfulness and negative emotions on the relationship between perceived stress and FertiQoL. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 262 participants recruited from the infertility outpatient clinics. A self-administered, structured questionnaire including the Simplified Chinese version of FertiQoL tool, the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), the Chinese Version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) was used to collect information in this research. The mediation model and moderated mediation model were conducted using the PROCESS macro for SPSS. RESULTS: The mean score of Core FertiQoL was 64.59 (SD = 14.76) among women with RPL. Mediation analysis revealed that the association between perceived stress and FertiQoL was partially mediated by negative emotions (indirect effect = - 0.194 for anxiety, and - 0.151 for depression, all P < 0.001). Moderated mediation analysis indicated that the indirect effects of perceived stress on FertiQoL through negative emotions were significantly moderated by dispositional mindfulness. Specifically, the indirect effects of perceived stress on FertiQoL through negative emotions decreased were significant as dispositional mindfulness levels increased. CONCLUSION: Overall, women with RPL experienced poor FertiQoL. The Moderated mediation model provides a better understanding of how perceived stress, negative emotions and dispositional mindfulness work together to affect FertiQoL. Interventions aiming to improve FertiQoL in women with RPL should consider targeting these aspects.

RESUMO

Molecular components are vital to introduce and manipulate quantum interference (QI) in charge transport through molecular electronic devices. Up to now, the functional molecular units that show QI are mostly found in conventional π- and σ-bond-based systems; it is thus intriguing to study QI in multicenter bonding systems without both π- and σ-conjugations. Now the presence of QI in multicenter-bond-based systems is demonstrated for the first time, through the single-molecule conductance investigation of carborane junctions. We find that all the three connectivities in carborane frameworks show different levels of destructive QI, which leads to highly suppressed single-molecule conductance in para- and meta-connected carboranes. The investigation of QI into carboranes provides a promising platform to fabricate molecular electronic devices based on multicenter bonds.

RESUMO

Inorganic perovskites with special semiconducting properties and structures have attracted great attention and are regarded as next generation candidates for optoelectronic devices. Herein, using a physical vapor deposition process with a controlled excess of PbBr2 , dual-phase all-inorganic perovskite composite CsPbBr3 -CsPb2 Br5 thin films are prepared as light-harvesting layers and incorporated in a photodetector (PD). The PD has a high responsivity and detectivity of 0.375 A W-1 and 1011 Jones, respectively, and a fast response time (from 10% to 90% of the maximum photocurrent) of ≈280 µs/640 µs. The device also shows an excellent stability in air for more than 65 d without encapsulation. Tetragonal CsPb2 Br5 provides satisfactory passivation to reduce the recombination of the charge carriers, and with its lower free energy, it enhances the stability of the inorganic perovskite devices. Remarkably, the same inorganic perovskite photodetector is also highly flexible and exhibits an exceptional bending performance (>1000 cycles). These results highlight the great potential of dual-phase inorganic perovskite films in the development of optoelectronic devices, especially for flexible device applications.

RESUMO

Three-dimensional (3D) architecture perovskite solar cells (PSCs) using CdS nanorod (NR) arrays as an electron transport layer were designed and prepared layer-by-layer via a physical-chemical vapor deposition (P-CVD) process. The CdS NRs not only provided a scaffold to the perovskite film, but also increased the interfacial contact between the perovskite film and electron transport layer. As an optimized result, a high power conversion efficiency of 12.46% with a short-circuit current density of 19.88 mA cm-2, an open-circuit voltage of 1.01 V and a fill factor of 62.06% was obtained after 12 h growth of CdS NRs. It was four times the efficiency of contrast planar structure with a similar thickness. The P-CVD method assisted in achieving flat and voidless CH3NH3PbI3-x Cl x perovskite film and binding the CdS NRs and perovskite film together. The different density of CdS NRs had obvious effects on light transmittance of 350-550 nm, the interfacial area and the difficulty of combining layers. Moreover, the efficient 1D transport paths for electrons and multiple absorption of light, which are generated in 3D architecture, were beneficial to realize a decent power conversion efficiency.

RESUMO

The selenium dioxide was used as the precursor to synthesize wide-size-ranged CdSe quantum dots (2.4-5.7 nm) via hot-injection route. The CdSe quantum dots are featured with high crystalline, monodisperse, zinc blende structure and wide emission region (530-635 nm). In order to improve the stability and quantum yield, a phosphine-free single-molecular precursor approach is used to obtain CdSe/CdS core/shell quantum dots. The CdSe/CdS quantum dots are highly fluorescent with quantum yield up to 65%, and persist the good monodispersity and high crystallinity. Moreover, the quantum dots white light-emitting-diodes are fabricated by using the resultant red emission core/shell quantum dots and Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ yellow phosphors as color-conversion layers on a blue InGaN chip. The prepared light-emitting-diodes show good performance with CIE-1931 coordinated of (0.3583, 0.3349), an Ra of 92.9, and a Tc of 4410 K at 20 mA, which indicate that the combination of red-emission QDs and yellow phophors as a promising approach to obtain warm WLEDs with good color rendering.

RESUMO

This study aims to explore the relationship between resilience, social support, positive affect and posttraumatic growth among Chinese women with infertility, and to examine the mediating role of positive affect. A convenience sample of 1733 women diagnosed with infertility was recruited from the infertility outpatient clinics at three reproductive hospitals in Shandong Province of China between May 2015 and April 2016. They completed a background questionnaire, the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, the Perceived Social Support Questionnaire, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule. Individuals reported high levels of PTG (M = 64.81; SD = 16.20). Perceived social support (ß = .11, p < .001), resilience (ß = .18, p < .001) and positive affect (ß = .46, p < .001) were related to PTG. Positive affect may play a mediating role in the relationships between resilience (.125, .201, p < .001), social support (.055, .121, p < .001) and PTG. This study examines the effects of resilience, social support, and positive affect on PTG among Chinese infertile women. Wherein, positive affect may play a mediating role in the relationships between resilience, social support and PTG.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are the largest family of transmembrane receptors in fungi, where they play important roles in signal transduction. Among them, the Pth11-related GPCRs form a large and divergent protein family, and are only found in fungi in Pezizomycotina. However, the evolutionary process and potential functions of Pth11-related GPCRs remain largely unknown. RESULTS: Twenty genomes of fungi in Pezizomycotina covering different nutritional strategies were mined for putative Pth11-related GPCRs. Phytopathogens encode much more putative Pth11-related GPCRs than symbionts, saprophytes, or entomopathogens. Based on the phylogenetic tree, these GPCRs can be divided into nine clades, with each clade containing fungi in different taxonomic orders. Instead of fungi from the same order, those fungi with similar nutritional strategies were inclined to share orthologs of putative Pth11-related GPCRs. Most of the CFEM domain-containing Pth11-related GPCRs, which were only included in two clades, were detected in phytopathogens. Furthermore, many putative Pth11-related GPCR genes of phytopathogens were upregulated during invasive plant infection, but downregulated under biotic stress. The expressions of putative Pth11-related GPCR genes of saprophytes and entomopathogens could be affected by nutrient conditions, especially the carbon source. The gene expressions revealed that Pth11-related GPCRs could respond to biotic/abiotic stress and invasive plant infection with different expression patterns. CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that the Pth11-related GPCRs existed before the diversification of Pezizomycotina and have been gained and/or lost several times during the evolutionary process. Tandem duplications and trophic variations have been important factors in this evolution.

RESUMO

Colloidal quantum dots can be stabilized in either a polar solvent or a nonpolar solvent depending on their surface chemistry. The former is typically achieved by charge stabilization while the latter by steric hindrance. This allows reversible tuning of their surface polarity for targeted application by engineering their ligand profile. Here we developed a hybrid stabilization approach that leveraged a combination of steric hindrance and charge stabilization simultaneously. We demonstrated this mechanism in a phase transfer process where hexane dispersed and hydrophobic CdSe/CdS core/shell quantum dots were exchanged into the hydrophilic dimethylformamide (DMF) phase. This was achieved by employing both Z-type cadmium acetate and X-type halide ligands. The results suggested only by using this hybrid stabilization strategy were we able to achieve good colloidal stability while preserving their photoluminescence quantum yield. This hybrid ligand strategy may promise new opportunities for the application of QDs in optoelectronic areas.

RESUMO

Here we fabricate self-powered photodetectors based on PbS-quantum-dots/indium Schottky barrier diodes successfully. These devices exhibit excellent repeatability and stability at a high frequency (up to1 MHz), and show a typical fast rise time/fall time of ∼0.8 µs/3.2 µs. They also show excellent rectification ratios up to 104 with bias from -0.5 V to +0.5 V in the dark and a pronounced photovoltaic performance under light illumination. Moreover, the devices demonstrate high sensitivity in weak light illumination detection (detectivity) approaching 1012 Jones and low noise currents <1 pAHz-1/2. These findings suggest great application potential of PbS-quantum-dots for advanced fast response, low noise current, high detectivity and high stability photodetectors.
