BACKGROUND AND AIMS: While genome size limits the minimum sizes and maximum numbers of cells that can be packed into a given leaf volume, mature cell sizes can be substantially larger than their meristematic precursors and vary in response to abiotic conditions. Mangroves are iconic examples of how abiotic conditions can influence the evolution of plant phenotypes. METHODS: Here, we examined the coordination between genome size, leaf cell sizes, cell packing densities and leaf size in 13 mangrove species across four sites in China. Four of these species occurred at more than one site, allowing us to test the effect of climate on leaf anatomy. RESULTS: We found that genome sizes of mangroves were very small compared to other angiosperms, but, like other angiosperms, mangrove cells were always larger than the minimum size defined by genome size. Increasing mean annual temperature of a growth site led to higher packing densities of veins (Dv) and stomata (Ds) and smaller epidermal cells but had no effect on stomatal size. In contrast to other angiosperms, mangroves exhibited (1) a negative relationship between guard cell size and genome size; (2) epidermal cells that were smaller than stomata; and (3) coordination between Dv and Ds that was not mediated by epidermal cell size. Furthermore, mangrove epidermal cell sizes and packing densities covaried with leaf size. CONCLUSIONS: While mangroves exhibited coordination between veins and stomata and attained a maximum theoretical stomatal conductance similar to that of other angiosperms, the tissue-level tradeoffs underlying these similar relationships across species and environments were markedly different, perhaps indicative of the unique structural and physiological adaptations of mangroves to their stressful environments.

AIMS: To investigate the knowledge sharing behaviour of critical care nurse specialists and identify potential influencing factors. BACKGROUND: The specialist knowledge of critical care nurses is an important resource for the nursing team. It is necessary to investigate influencing factors of knowledge sharing behaviour of them. METHODS: Convenience sampling was used to conduct an investigation involving critical care nurse specialists from three provinces in China between October 2018 and June 2019. Practice Environment Scale, Competency Inventory for Registered Nurses, Knowledge Self-efficacy Scale, and knowledge sharing behaviour scale were utilized. RESULTS: The knowledge sharing behaviour score of critical care nurse specialists was 64.84 ± 11.53. The results of the regression analysis showed that the level of education, position, involvement of nurses in hospital affairs, knowledge, self-efficacy, sex, average number of night shifts per month, years engaged in nursing work, type of employment, leadership skills, critical thinking ability and manpower and material resources accounted for 45.9% of the variance. CONCLUSIONS: Critical care nurse specialists exhibited limited knowledge sharing behaviour. Therefore, interventions based on the dependent variables are necessary. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: Knowledge sharing behaviour of critical care nurse specialists remains at a low level. Hence, it is necessary to encourage their greater participation according to associated factors.

AIM: This study examined the effects of group psychological counselling on transition shock in newly graduated nurses. BACKGROUND: Newly graduated nurses are often faced with transition shock as they enter the workforce. Helping them adapt to the new work environment and role as quickly as possible is an important goal for nursing managers. METHOD: This prospective, parallel-group, quasi-experimental trial enrolled 71 newly graduated nurses who were randomly assigned to the intervention (n = 38) or control (n = 41) group. In addition to routine hospital training, the intervention group received psychological counselling. Participants were evaluated with the Transition Shock Scale of Newly Graduated Nurses before (pre) and after (post) the training with or without intervention. RESULTS: The total score and score on each dimension of the scale were decreased after the intervention (P < .05); control subjects showed no difference between pre- and post-scores. The total score and score on each dimension were higher in the control group than in the intervention group (P < .05). CONCLUSION: Psychological counselling alleviates transition shock in newly graduated nurses entering the workforce. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: Nursing managers can introduce group psychological counselling into their training programmes to increase the job readiness of newly graduated nurses.

BACKGROUND: Public health emergencies are serious social problems, threatening people's lives, causing considerable economic losses, and related to all mankind life and health and safety. Nurses are essential in the fight against the public health emergency, corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19). clinic nursing students are considered as backup health care providers for licensed nurses, the coping abilities and crisis management of nursing students at present deserve attention all around the world. METHODS: 2035 clinic nursing students were invited to participate in mobile phone app-based survey from Feb 6 to 20, 2020. The demographic items, psychological and behavioral responses, and the coping abilities were conducted. Multiple linear regression was used to identify the independent factors to clinic nursing students' coping abilities under COVID-19. RESULTS: 1992 submitted were valid. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that Confidence to overcome difficulties, Optimism, Active coping, Help seeking and Practice hospital as designated treatment unit were independently associated with the positive coping of clinic nursing students. Fear of COVID-19, Optimism, Avoidance, Help seeking and Severity of epidemic around were independently associated with the negative coping of clinic nursing students. CONCLUSION: Under COVID-19, nursing students' coping level is superior to the Chinese norm, which is also affected by many factors. As the most direct backup resources of professional nurses, the way clinic nursing students respond to public health emergencies and its influencing factors deserve attention.

Zn2+ plays a vital role in regulating various life processes, such as gene expression, cell signaling, and brain function. In this study, a near-infrared fluorescent probe AXS was synthesized to detect Zn2+ with good fluorescence specificity, high selectivity, and high sensitivity; the detection limit of Zn2+ was 6.924 × 10-11 M. The mechanism of Zn2+ recognition by the AXS probe was investigated by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance titrations, UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and high-resolution mass spectrometry. Test paper experiments showed that the AXS probe could detect Zn2+ in real samples. In addition, quantitative and qualitative detection of Zn2+ in common foodstuffs was achieved. For portable Zn2+ detection, a smartphone detection platform was also developed based on the AXS probe. Importantly, the AXS probe showed good bioimaging capabilities in Caenorhabditis elegans and mice.

RESUMO

The chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of Rhizophora apiculata was characterized. The cp genome length was 164,343 bp in length, containing a typical structure of a large single copy (LSC) of 93,155 bp, a small single copy (SSC) of 19,376 bp, and two inverted repeats (IRs) of 25,906 bp, with a GC content of 34.9%. There were 131 genes were annotated in the cp genome, including 85 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. A phylogenetic analysis using cp genomes of mangroves and ecologically associated species resolved R. apiculata in Rhizophora with R. stylosa and R. x lamarckii. This complete chloroplast sequence offers a promising tool for further species identification and evolutionary studies of Rhizophora, as well as for mangroves.

The chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza was characterized. The cp genome length was 163,795 bp in length, with a GC content of 35.3%, containing a large single copy (LSC) of 90,830 bp, a small single copy (SSC) of 20,207 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 26,379 bp. The genome contained 121 genes, including 84 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. A phylogenetic analysis using cp genomes of mangroves and ecologically associated species resolved B. gymnorrhiza in Bruguiera with B. sexangula var. rhynchopetala. This complete chloroplast sequence offers a promising tool for further species identification and evolutionary studies of Bruguiera, as well as for mangroves.

RESUMO

N-doped amorphous carbon coated Fe3O4/SnO2 coaxial nanofibers were prepared via a facile approach. The core composite nanofibers were first made by electrospinning technology, then the shells were conformally coated using the chemical bath deposition and subsequent carbonization with polydopamine as a carbon source. When applied as a binder-free self-supported anode for lithium ion batteries, the coaxial nanofibers displayed an enhanced electrochemical storage capacity and excellent rate performance. The morphology of the interwoven nanofibers was maintained even after the rate cycle test. The superior electrochemical performance originates in the structural stability of the N-doped amorphous carbon shells formed by carbonizing polydopamine.
