RESUMO

The success of plant reproduction depends on the timely transition from the vegetative phase to reproductive growth, a process often referred to as flowering. Although several plant-specific transcription factors belonging to the Teosinte Branched 1/Cycloidea/Proliferating Cell Factor (TCP) family are reportedly involved in the regulation of flowering in Arabidopsis, the molecular mechanisms, especially for Class I TCP members, are poorly understood. Here, we genetically identified Class I TCP7 as a positive regulator of flowering time. Protein interaction analysis indicated that TCP7 interacted with several Nuclear Factor-Ys (NF-Ys), known as the 'pioneer' transcription factors; CONSTANS (CO), a main photoperiod regulator of flowering. SUPPRESSOR OF OVEREXPRESSION OF CONSTANS 1 (SOC1) was differentially expressed in the dominant-negative mutant of TCP7 (lcu) and the loss-of-function mutant of Class I TCP members (septuple). Additionally, we obtained genetic and molecular evidence showing that TCP7 directly activates the flowering integrator gene, SOC1. Moreover, TCP7 synergistically activated SOC1 expression upon interacting with CO and NF-Ys in vivo. Collectively, our results provide compelling evidence that TCP7 synergistically interacts with NF-Ys to activate the transcriptional expression of the flowering integrator gene SOC1.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Improvement of the medical and social environment is an important aspect of government policies in assuring the quality of life (QoL) of older adults. However, few studies have appraised the impact and relationship of QoL with clinical factors among elderly individuals in affluent residential areas. METHODS: A total of 166 older adults from Chang Gung Health and Culture Village were enrolled. Oral health-related QoL was measured using the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index. Self-assessed chewing abilities and demographic characteristics were collected by questionnaire. Physical health was scored by activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental ADL. Mini nutrition assessment questionnaire was used to evaluate the nutritional intake. Multiple linear regression was used to predict risk factors affecting QoL and to examine whether chewing ability was a mediator of oral health-related QoL. RESULTS: Poor chewing ability was associated with older age (OR = 1.82 for 76-85 years and 3.58 for 86-95 years), sufficient economic status (OR = 5.55) and removable denture-wearing (OR = 7.52). On the other hand, poor chewing ability (OR = 0.11), removable denture-wearing (OR = 0.48), periodontal disease (OR = 0.38) had lower likelihood of good oral health-related QoL. Mediator analyses showed that chewing ability was a mediator for the association between oral health-related QoL and economic status or removable denture-wearing or having more than 20 teeth. Periodontal disease was an independent factor for oral health-related QoL. CONCLUSION: Among older adults in an affluent community, periodontal disease is an independent risk factor directly related to oral health-related QoL, whereas chewing ability is a mediator between QoL and removable denture-wearing.

In this study, 7075 aluminum alloy with a thickness of 10 mm was successfully welded with no obvious defects by pulsed variable polarity plasma arc (PVPPA) welding. The mechanical properties of PVPPA welded joints have been researched by post weld heat treatment (PWHT). The results indicate that the heat treatment strongly affects the mechanical properties of the welded joints. The tensile strength and the microhardness of the welded joints gradually improved with the increase of the solution temperature. With the increase of the solution time, the tensile strength, and microhardness first dramatically increased and then decreased slightly. The best tensile strength of 537.5 MPa and the microhardness of 143.7 HV were obtained after 490 °C × 80 min + 120 °C × 24 h, and the strength was nearly 91.2% of that of the parent metal, and increased about 35% compared with as-welded. The improvement of strength and microhardness was mainly due to the precipitation of η' phase.
