RESUMO

Ferroptosis is a new form of cell death characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Whether ferroptosis is involved in retinal microvascular dysfunction under diabetic condition is not known. Herein, the expression of ferroptosis-related genes in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and in diabetic mice was determined with quantitative RT-PCR. Reactive oxygen species, iron content, lipid peroxidation products, and ferroptosis-associated proteins in the cultured human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMECs) and in the retina of diabetic mice were examined. The association of ferroptosis with the functions of endothelial cells in vitro was evaluated. After administration of ferroptosis-specific inhibitor, Fer-1, the retinal microvasculature in diabetic mice was assessed. Characteristic changes of ferroptosis-associated markers, including glutathione peroxidase 4, ferritin heavy chain 1, long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase 4, transferrin receptor protein 1, and cyclooxygenase-2, were detected in the retinal fibrovascular membrane of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy, cultured HRMECs, and the retina of diabetic mice. Elevated levels of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, and iron content were found in the retina of diabetic mice and in cultured HRMECs. Ferroptosis was found to be associated with HRMEC dysfunction under high-glucose condition. Inhibition of ferroptosis with specific inhibitor Fer-1 in diabetic mice significantly reduced the severity of retinal microvasculopathy. Ferroptosis contributes to microvascular dysfunction in diabetic retinopathy, and inhibition of ferroptosis might be a promising strategy for the therapy of early-stage diabetic retinopathy.

BACKGROUND: The ginseng endophyte Paenibacillus polymyxa Pp-7250 (Pp-7250) has multifaceted roles such as preventing ginseng diseases, promoting growth, increasing ginsenoside accumulation, and degrading pesticide residues, however, these effects still have room for improvements. Composite fungicides are an effective means to improve the biocontrol effect of fungicides, but the effect of Pp-7250 in combination with its symbiotic bacteria on ginseng needs to be further investigated, and its mechanism of action has not been elucidated. In this study, a series of experiments was conducted to elucidate the effect of Paenibacillus polymyxa and Bacillus cereus co-bacterial agent on the yield and quality of understory ginseng, and to investigate their mechanism of action. RESULTS: The results indicated that P. polymyxa and B. cereus co-bacterial agent (PB) treatment improved ginseng yield, ginsenoside accumulation, disease prevention, and pesticide degradation. The mechanism is that PB treatment increased the abundance of beneficial microorganisms, including Rhodanobacter, Pseudolabrys, Gemmatimonas, Bacillus, Paenibacillus, Cortinarius, Russula, Paecilomyces, and Trechispora, and decreased the abundance of pathogenic microorganisms, including Ellin6067, Acidibacter, Fusarium, Tetracladium, Alternaria, and Ilyonectria in ginseng rhizosphere soil. PB co-bacterial agents enhanced the function of microbial metabolic pathways, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, biosynthesis of antibiotics, biosynthesis of amino acids, carbon fixation pathways in prokaryotes, DNA replication, and terpenoid backbone biosynthesis, and decreased the function of microbial plant pathogens and animal pathogens. CONCLUSION: The combination of P. polymyxa and B. cereus may be a potential biocontrol agent to promote the resistance of ginseng to disease and improve the yield, quality, and pesticide degradation.

BACKGROUND: Dactylicapnos is a climbing herbaceous vine, distributed from the Himalayas to southwestern China, and some of the species have important medicinal values. However, the chloroplast genomes of Dactylicapnos have never been investigated. In this study, chloroplast genomes of seven Dactylicapnos species covering all three sections and one informal group of Dactylicapnos were sequenced and assembled, and the detailed comparative analyses of the chloroplast genome structure were provided for the first time. RESULTS: The results showed that the chloroplast genomes of Dactylicapnos have a typical quadripartite structure with lengths from 172,344 bp to 176,370 bp, encoding a total of 133-140 genes, containing 88-94 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNAs and 37-39 tRNAs. 31 codons were identified as relative synonymous codon usage values greater than one in the chloroplast genome of Dactylicapnos genus based on 80 protein-coding genes. The results of the phylogenetic analysis showed that seven Dactylicapnos species can be divided into three main categories. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that seven species form three major clades which should be treated as three sections. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the initial report of the chloroplast genomes of Dactylicapnos, their structural variation, comparative genomic and phylogenetic analysis for the first time. The results provide important genetic information for development of medical resources, species identification, infrageneric classification and diversification of Dactylicapnos.

A stable stripping/plating process of the zinc anode is extremely critical for the practical application of aqueous zinc metal batteries. However, obstacles, including parasitic reactions and dendrite growth, notoriously deteriorate the stability and reversibility of zinc anode. Herein, Methyl l-α-aspartyl-l-phenylalaninate (Aspartame) is proposed as an effective additive in the ZnSO4 system to realize high stability and reversibility. Aspartame molecule with rich polar functional groups successfully participates in the solvation sheath of Zn2+ to suppress water-induced side reactions. The self-driven adsorption of Aspartame on zinc anode improves uniform deposition with a dose of 10 mm. These synergetic functions endow the zinc anode with a significantly long cycling lifespan of 4500 h. The cell coupled with a vanadium-based cathode also exhibited a high-capacity retention of 71.8% after 1000 cycles, outperforming the additive-free counterparts.

The flexible aqueous rechargeable sodium-ion batteries (ARSIBs) are a promising portable energy storage system that can meet the flexibility and safety requirements of wearable electronic devices. However, it faces huge challenges in mechanical stability and facile manufacturing processes. Herein, the first fully-printed flexible ARSIBs with appealing mechanical performance by screen-printing technique is prepared, which utilizes Na3V2(PO4)2F3/C (NVPF/C) as the cathode and 2% nitrogenous carbon-loaded Na3MnTi(PO4)3/C (NMTP/C/NC) as the anode. In particular, the organic co-solvent ethylene glycol (EG) is cleverly added to 17 m (mol kg-1) NaClO4 electrolyte to prepare a 17 m NaClO4-EG mixed electrolyte. This mixed electrolyte can withstand low temperatures of -20 °C in practical applications. Encouragingly, the fully-printed flexible ARSIBs (NMTP/C/NC//NVPF/C) exhibit a discharge capacity of 40.1 mAh g-1, an energy density of 40.1 Wh kg-1, and outstanding cycle performance. Moreover, these batteries with various shapes can be used as an energy wristband for an electronic watch in the bending states. The fully-printed flexible ARSIBs in this work are expected to shed light on the development of energy for wearable electronics.

Hydrogen (H2) stands as a clean energy alternative to fossil fuels, especially within the domain of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), offering prospective solutions to mitigate both environmental and energy-related challenges. In this work, we successfully synthesized a sea-urchin-like catalyst, specifically a nickel-cobalt phosphide nanoneedle array on N-doped carbon nanospheres (Ni0.5Co1.5P@NCSs), for efficient HER by a sequential hydrothermal and low-temperature phosphating process. The catalyst exhibits sea-urchin-like structures, offering a specific surface area of 298 m2 g-1 and consequently furnishing a greater abundance of active sites. Comparing with non-sea-urchin-like Ni0.5Co1.5P@CN catalysts, the Ni0.5Co1.5P@NCSs exhibit an overpotential of 163 mV at 10 mA cm-2, a Tafel slope of 60 mV dec-1, and a maintained current density of approximately 90% during 50 h of continuous electrolysis. Experiments demonstrate that the outstanding electrochemical properties of the Ni0.5Co1.5P@NCSs originate from nitrogen doping of carbon spheres, the distinctive morphology of sea-urchin-like nanoneedle arrays, and simultaneous enhancements in intermediate adsorption energy, charge transfer, and electrolyte diffusion channel shortening. This work emphasizes a preparation strategy for synthesizing an attractive electrocatalyst with a low cost and efficient HER performance.

Plant nutrient uptake and productivity are driven by a multitude of factors that have been modified by human activities, like climate change and the activity of decomposers. However, interactive effects of climate change and key decomposer groups like earthworms have rarely been studied. In a field microcosm experiment, we investigated the effects of a mean future climate scenario with warming (+ 0.50 °C to + 0.62 °C) and altered precipitation (+ 10% in spring and autumn, - 20% in summer) and earthworms (anecic-two Lumbricus terrestris, endogeic-four Allolobophora chlorotica and both together within 10 cm diameter tubes) on plant biomass and stoichiometry in two land-use types (intensively used meadow and conventional farming). We found little evidence for earthworm effects on aboveground biomass. However, future climate increased above- (+40.9%) and belowground biomass (+44.7%) of grass communities, which was mainly driven by production of the dominant Festulolium species during non-summer drought periods, but decreased the aboveground biomass (- 36.9%) of winter wheat. Projected climate change and earthworms interactively affected the N content and C:N ratio of grasses. Earthworms enhanced the N content (+1.2%) thereby decreasing the C:N ratio (- 4.1%) in grasses, but only under ambient climate conditions. The future climate treatment generally decreased the N content of grasses (aboveground: - 1.1%, belowground: - 0.15%) and winter wheat (- 0.14%), resulting in an increase in C:N ratio of grasses (aboveground: + 4.2%, belowground: +6.3%) and wheat (+5.9%). Our results suggest that climate change diminishes the positive effects of earthworms on plant nutrient uptakes due to soil water deficit, especially during summer drought.

To describe the transmission dynamics of maize streak virus infection, in the paper, we first formulate a stochastic maize streak virus infection model, in which the stochastic fluctuations are depicted by a logarithmic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. This approach is reasonable to simulate the random impacts of main parameters both from the biological significance and the mathematical perspective. Then we investigate the detailed dynamics of the stochastic system, including the existence and uniqueness of the global solution, the existence of a stationary distribution, the exponential extinction of the infected maize and infected leafhopper vector. Especially, by solving the five-dimensional algebraic equations corresponding to the stochastic system, we obtain the specific expression of the probability density function near the quasi-endemic equilibrium of the stochastic system, which provides valuable insights into the stationary distribution. Finally, the model is discretized using the Milstein higher-order numerical method to illustrate our theoretical results numerically. Our findings provide a groundwork for better methods of preventing the spread of this type of virus.

BACKGROUND: Hemodialysis patients require a reasonable dietary intake to manage their disease progression effectively. However, there is limited research on these patients' overall dietary knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) status. This study aimed to investigate the dietary KAP status and latent profiles in hemodialysis patients and identify sociodemographic and disease-related factors associated with these profiles and dietary practice. METHODS: A multicenter cross-sectional study involving 425 hemodialysis patients was conducted. A dietary KAP questionnaire in hemodialysis patients was used to evaluate the dietary KAP of the patients. A structural equation model was employed to analyze the correlations between dietary knowledge, attitude, and practice. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with dietary practice scores. Latent profile analysis was conducted to determine the latent profiles of dietary KAP, and binary logistic regression was used to explore the sociodemographic and disease-related characteristics associated with each KAP profile in hemodialysis patients. RESULTS: The normalized average scores for dietary knowledge, attitude, and practice in hemodialysis patients were 0.58, 0.82, and 0.58, respectively. The structural equation model revealed significant positive correlations between dietary knowledge and attitude, and attitude and practice. Attitude played an indirect effect between knowledge and practice. Gender, cerebrovascular disease, and dietary attitude scores were identified as independent influencing factors for dietary practice scores. Two dietary KAP profiles were developed: a profile with general knowledge and attitude but low practice (40.2%) and a profile with general knowledge and attitude and high practice (59.8%). Binary logistic regression analysis indicated gender and monthly income per household significantly predicted membership in each KAP profile. CONCLUSIONS: The dietary practice of hemodialysis patients requires improvement. It is necessary to develop more individualized dietary interventions for these patients. Further exploration is needed to understand the motivation of patients to change their dietary behavior.

The flow of calcium ions (Ca2+) is involved in numerous vital activities of Toxoplasma gondii. Calreticulin is a type of Ca2+-binding protein in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) that is involved in Ca2+ signaling pathway regulation, Ca2+ storage, and protein folding. In this work, the calreticulin (CALR), a protein predicted to possess a conserved domain of calreticulin in T. gondii, was characterized. The CALR localized in the ER. Using reverse genetics, we discovered that CALR is not necessary for the lytic cycle, including invasion and replication. However, depletion of CALR affected microneme secretion triggered by A23187, which is a Ca2+ ionophore used to increase cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration. Furthermore, we discovered that CALR influences Ca2+ release. Transcriptomic comparison between Δcalr and Δku80 parasites showed that 226 genes in the Δcalr parasites were significantly downregulated (p < 0.05). The cellular biological functions of the downregulated genes were mainly involved in calmodulin-dependent protein kinase pathways. Furthermore, in the absence of CALR, tachyzoites were still able to cause acute infection in mice. These results imply that by influencing ER Ca2+ release content, CALR may further impair the ionophore-induced secretion of the parasite. However, this protein is not required for the completion of the parasite's lytic cycle or for the acute virulence of the parasite.

Croton sublyratus (Euphorbiaceae) is a traditional medicinal plant used by the Thai populace to treat helminthic infections and dermatologic conditions. In present study, eight new labdane-type diterpenoids, crotonoids A-H (1-8) and one known analogue (9) were isolated from the aerial parts of C. sublyratus. Compounds 6 and 7 belong to the rare class of 14,15-dinor-labdane diterpenoids. Compound 8 exhibited a rare 14,15,17-trinor-labdane skeleton. The structures of all these diterpenoids were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis, electronic circular dichroism calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 9 exhibited moderate anti-inflammatory activity via the inhibition of NO production in lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW 264.7 cells.

PURPOSE: To investigate the dietary nutrient intake of Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients, identify influencing factors, and explore the correlation between dietary nutrient intake and nutritional and disease control indicators. METHODS: This was a multicenter cross-sectional study. A dietary survey was conducted using a three-day dietary record method, and a self-designed diet management software was utilized to calculate the daily intake of dietary nutrients. The nutritional status and disease control indicators were assessed using subjective global assessment, handgrip strength, blood test indexes, and dialysis adequacy. RESULTS: A total of 382 MHD patients were included in this study. Among them, 225 (58.9%) and 233 (61.0%) patients' protein and energy intake did not meet the recommendations outlined in the National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative Clinical Practice Guideline for Nutrition in Chronic Kidney Disease (2020 update). The average protein and energy intake for these patients were 0.99 ± 0.32 g/kg/d and 29.06 ± 7.79 kcal/kg/d, respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that comorbidity-diabetes had a negative influence on normalized daily energy intake (nDEI = DEI / ideal body weight) (B = -2.880, p = 0.001) and normalized daily protein intake (nDPI = DPI / ideal body weight) (B = -0.109, p = 0.001). Pearson correlation analysis revealed that dietary DPI (r = -0.109, p < 0.05), DEI (r = -0.226, p < 0.05) and phosphorus (r = -0.195, p < 0.001) intake were statistically correlated to Kt/V; dietary nDPI (r = 0.101, p < 0.05) and sodium (r = -0.144, p < 0.001) intake were statistically correlated to serum urea nitrogen; dietary DPI (r = 0.200, p < 0.001), DEI (r = 0.241, p < 0.001), potassium (r = 0.129, p < 0.05), phosphorus (r = 0.199, p < 0.001), and fiber (r = 0.157, p < 0.001) intake were statistically correlated to serum creatinine; dietary phosphorus (r = 0.117, p < 0.05) and fiber (r = 0.142, p < 0.001) intake were statistically correlated to serum phosphorus; dietary nDPI (r = 0.125, p < 0.05), DPI (r = 0.135, p < 0.05), nDEI (r = 0.116, p < 0.05), DEI (r = 0.125, p < 0.05), potassium (r = 0.148, p < 0.001), and phosphorus (r = 0.156, p < 0.001) intake were statistically correlated to subjective global assessment scores; dietary nDPI (r = 0.215, p < 0.001), DPI (r = 0.341, p < 0.001), nDEI (r = 0.142, p < 0.05), DEI (r = 0.241, p < 0.001), potassium (r = 0.166, p < 0.05), phosphorus (r = 0.258, p < 0.001), and fiber (r = 0.252, p < 0.001) intake were statistically correlated to handgrip strength in males; dietary fiber (r = 0.190, p < 0.05) intake was statistically correlated to handgrip strength in females. CONCLUSIONS: The dietary nutrient intake of MHD patients need improvement. Inadequate dietary nutrient intake among MHD patients could have a detrimental effect on their blood test indexes and overall nutritional status. It is crucial to address and optimize the dietary intake of nutrients in this patient population to enhance their health outcomes and well-being.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a malignant tumor with low overall cure and survival rates. Uncovering abnormally expressed genes is significantly important for developing novel targeted therapies in NSCLC. This study aimed to discover new differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of NSCLC. The DEGs of NSCLC were identified in eight data sets from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The expression profiles and the prognostic significance of SCN4B in LUAD and LUSC were analyzed using GEPIA database. LinkedOmics was used to identify co-expressed genes with SCN4B, which were further subjected to KEGG pathway enrichment analysis. SCN4B-overexpressing plasmid (pcDNA/SCN4B) was transfected into A549 and NCI-H2170 cells to elevate the expression of SCN4B. MTT and TUNEL assays were performed to evaluate cell viability and apoptosis. Relying on the screened DEGs from GEO database, we identified that SCN4B was significantly downregulated in LUAD and LUSC. We confirmed the downregulation of SCN4B in NSCLC tissues using GEPIA database. SCN4B has a prognostic value in LUAD, but not LUSC. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of SCN4B-related genes showed that cGMP-PKG signaling pathway might be involved in the role of SCN4B in NSCLC. Overexpression of SCN4B in A549 and NCI-H2170 cells inhibited the cell viability. Besides, SCN4B overexpression induced apoptosis of A549 and NCI-H2170 cells. SCN4B inhibited the expression of PKG1 and p-CREB in NSCLC cells. Moreover, the inhibitory effects of SCN4B on tumor malignancy were attenuated by the activator of PKG. In conclusion, integrated bioinformatical analysis proved that SCN4B was downregulated and had a prognostic significance in NSCLC. In vitro experimental studies demonstrated that SCN4B regulated NSCLC cells viability and apoptosis via inhibiting cGMP-PKG signaling pathway.

Iron is an indispensable nutrient for the survival of Toxoplasma gondii; however, excessive amounts can lead to toxicity. The parasite must overcome the host's "nutritional immunity" barrier and compete with the host for iron. Since T. gondii can infect most nucleated cells, it encounters increased iron stress during parasitism. This study assessed the impact of iron stress, encompassing both iron depletion and iron accumulation, on the growth of T. gondii. Iron accumulation disrupted the redox balance of T. gondii while enhancing the parasite's ability to adhere in high-iron environments. Conversely, iron depletion promoted the differentiation of tachyzoites into bradyzoites. Proteomic analysis further revealed proteins affected by iron depletion and identified the involvement of phosphotyrosyl phosphatase activator proteins in bradyzoite formation.

Toxoplasma gondii, an important opportunistic pathogen, underscores the necessity of developing novel therapeutic drugs and identifying new drug targets. Our findings indicate that the half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of KU60019 and CP466722 (abbreviated as KU and CP) against T. gondii are 0.522 µM and 0.702 µM, respectively, with selection indices (SI) of 68 and 10. Treatment with KU and CP affects the in vitro growth of T. gondii, inducing aberrant division in the daughter parasites. Transmission electron microscopy reveals that KU and CP prompt the anomalous division of T. gondii, accompanied by cellular enlargement, nuclear shrinkage, and an increased dense granule density, suggesting potential damage to parasite vesicle transport. Subsequent investigations unveil their ability to modulate the expression of certain secreted proteins and FAS II (type II fatty acid synthesis) in T. gondii, as well as including the dot-like aggregation of the autophagy-related protein ATG8 (autophagy-related protein 8), thereby expediting programmed death. Leveraging DARTS (drug affinity responsive target stability) in conjunction with 4D-Label-free quantitative proteomics technology, we identified seven target proteins binding to KU, implicated in pivotal biological processes such as the fatty acid metabolism, mitochondrial ATP transmission, microtubule formation, and Golgi proteins transport in T. gondii. Molecular docking predicts their good binding affinity. Furthermore, KU has a slight protective effect on mice infected with T. gondii. Elucidating the function of those target proteins and their mechanism of action with ATM kinase inhibitors may potentially enhance the treatment paradigm for toxoplasmosis.

RNA-Seq analysis of Formalin-Fixed and Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) samples has emerged as a highly effective approach and is increasingly being used in clinical research and drug development. However, the processing and storage of FFPE samples are known to cause extensive degradation of RNAs, which limits the discovery of gene expression or gene fusion-based biomarkers using RNA sequencing, particularly methods reliant on Poly(A) enrichment. Recently, researchers have developed an exome targeted RNA-Seq methodology that utilizes biotinylated oligonucleotide probes to enrich RNA transcripts of interest, which could overcome these limitations. Nevertheless, the standardization of this experimental framework, including probe designs, sample multiplexing, sequencing read length, and bioinformatic pipelines, remains an essential requirement. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive comparison of three main commercially available exome capture kits and evaluated key experimental parameters, to provide the overview of the advantages and limitations associated with the selection of library preparation protocols and sequencing platforms. The results provide valuable insights into the best practices for obtaining high-quality data from FFPE samples.

X-ray irradiation and modified atmospheres (MAs) provide eco-friendly, chemical-free methods for pest management. Although a low-oxygen atmospheric treatment improves the performance of some irradiated insects, its influence on the irradiation of quarantine insects and its impacts on pest control efficacy have yet to be investigated. Based on bioassay results, this study employed direct immersion solid-phase microextraction (DI-SPME) combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to determine metabolic profiles of late third-instar B. dorsalis larvae under normoxia (CON, Air), hypoxia (95% N2 + 5% O2, HY), super-hypoxia (99.5% N2 + 0.5% O2, Sup-HY), irradiation-alone (116 Gy, IR-alone), hypoxia + irradiation (HY + IR) and super-hypoxia + irradiation (Sup-HY + IR). Our findings reveal that, compared to the IR-alone group, the IR treatment under HY and Sup-HY (HY + IR and Sup-HY + IR) increases the larval pupation of B. dorsalis, and weakens the delaying effect of IR on the larval developmental stage. However, these 3 groups further hinder adult emergence under the phytosanitary IR dose of 116 Gy. Moreover, all IR-treated groups, including IR-alone, HY + IR, and Sup-HY + IR, lead to insect death as a coarctate larvae or pupae. Pathway analysis identified changed metabolic pathways across treatment groups. Specifically, changes in lipid metabolism-related pathways were observed: 3 in HY vs. CON, 2 in Sup-HY vs. CON, and 5 each in IR-alone vs. CON, HY + IR vs. CON, and Sup-HY + IR vs. CON. The treatments of IR-alone, HY + IR, and Sup-HY + IR induce comparable modifications in metabolic pathways. However, in the HY + IR, and Sup-HY + IR groups, the third-instar larvae of B. dorsalis demonstrate significantly fewer changes. Our research suggests that a low-oxygen environment (HY and Sup-HY) might enhance the radiation tolerance in B. dorsalis larvae by stabilizing lipid metabolism pathways at biologically feasible levels. Additionally, our findings indicate that the current phytosanitary IR dose contributes to the effective management of B. dorsalis, without being influenced by radioprotective effects. These results hold significant importance for understanding the biological effects of radiation on B. dorsalis and for developing IR-specific regulatory guidelines under MA environments.

Oil-in-water (O/W) high internal phase (HIP) emulsion was prepared to investigate its effects on the physicochemical properties and antimicrobial properties of soy protein isolate (SPI)-based films. The particle size and migration degree of oil droplets in the SPI film-forming solution with HIP emulsion and the films were lower than those with conventional O/W emulsion or oil. The SPI-based emulsion films with HIP emulsion containing 30 % oil had the lowest water vapor permeability (1.15 × 10-10 g·m-1·s-1·Pa-1), glass transition temperature (40.93 °C) and tensile strength (4.47 MPa), and the highest transparency value (12.87) and elongation at break (160.83 %). The antimicrobial test of the SPI-based emulsion films loaded with thymol showed that the thymol encapsulation efficiency, sustained release effect, and growth inhibition effect on microbes were higher for the films with HIP emulsion than those for the films with O/W emulsion or oil.

Deep learning has excelled in single-image super-resolution (SISR) applications, yet the lack of interpretability in most deep learning-based SR networks hinders their applicability, especially in fields like medical imaging that require transparent computation. To address these problems, we present an interpretable frequency division SR network that operates in the image frequency domain. It comprises a frequency division module and a step-wise reconstruction method, which divides the image into different frequencies and performs reconstruction accordingly. We develop a frequency division loss function to ensure that each reconstruction module (ReM) operates solely at one image frequency. These methods establish an interpretable framework for SR networks, visualizing the image reconstruction process and reducing the black box nature of SR networks. Additionally, we revisited the subpixel layer upsampling process by deriving its inverse process and designing a displacement generation module. This interpretable upsampling process incorporates subpixel information and is similar to pre-upsampling frameworks. Furthermore, we develop a new ReM based on interpretable Hessian attention to enhance network performance. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our network, without the frequency division loss, outperforms state-of-the-art methods qualitatively and quantitatively. The inclusion of the frequency division loss enhances the network's interpretability and robustness, and only slightly decreases the PSNR and SSIM metrics by an average of 0.48 dB and 0.0049, respectively.

Multi-generational asexual reproduction of Gastrodia elata Bl. will cause seedling species degeneration. Sexual reproduction of Gastrodia elata Bl. seed is an effective method to solve the problem of degeneration. The development of Gastrodia elata Bl. seeds cannot be separated from the germination fungus. However, there are few strains of germination fungus in production, and there is also the problem of species degradation in application for many years. It is very important for the sexual reproduction of Gastrodia elata Bl. to isolate more new strains of excellent germination fungus from the origin. This study used the Gastrodia elata Bl. f. glauca S. chow seeds germination vegetative propagation corms capture method to isolate its symbiotic germination fungus, and comprehensively identified the species of germination fungus by colony morphology, ITS, sporocarps regeneration and germination function, and compared the growth characteristics and germination ability with other germination fungus (Mycena purpureofusca, Mycena dendrobii and Mycena osmundicola). The germination fungus was isolated from the vegetative propagation corms of Gastrodia elata Bl. f. glauca S. chow seeds and named GYGL-1. After comprehensive identification, GYGL-1 was Mycetinis scorodonius. Compared with other germination fungus, GYGL-1 has fast germination speed, vigorous growth, and high germination ability for Gastrodia elata Bl. f. glauca S. chow seeds. Innovated the isolation method of Gastrodia elata Bl. seeds germination fungus, obtained the regenerated sporocarps of the germination fungus, and discovered that Mycetinis scorodonius has a new function of germinating Gastrodia elata Bl. f. glauca S. chow seeds, enriching the resource library of Gastrodia elata Bl. germination fungus.
