RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study. Comparative assessment of the results of vital pulpotomy in primary teeth in children with negative behavior when using non-drug behavior correction or sedation with preserved consciousness. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The proportions (%), 95% Confidence Interval (CI), the Student's criterion and χ2 for assessment of the difference between indicators were calculated. After 24 months, the pulpotomy efficiency in the 1st group was lower than in the 2nd group: 81.7% (95% CI 74.7-88.6%) and 89.2% (95% CI 83.6-94.7%), respectively, p>0.05. RESULTS: The proportions (%), 95% Confidence Interval (CI), the Student's criterion and χ2 for assessment of the difference between indicators were calculated. After 24 months, the pulpotomy efficiency in the 1st group was lower than in the 2nd group: 81.7% (95% CI 74.7-88.6%) and 89.2% (95% CI 83.6-94.7%), respectively, p>0.05. CONCLUSION: The treatment of the children aged 3-6 years with negative behavior under sedation with preserved consciousness increased the results of pulpotomy in primary teeth mainly due to the improvement of the quality of restorations.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study is comparative evaluation of the results of treatment of enamel caries (initial caries) of permanent teeth in children using non-invasive and microinvasive methods. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study involved 45 children aged 10-16 years, who revealed enamel caries in 451 permanent teeth. Noninvasive treatment was carried out using toothpaste with a fluoride content of 2800 ppm (group 1, 138 teeth) or 5% fluoride varnish (group 2, 155 teeth). Microinvasive treatment was performed using caries infiltration (group 3, 99 teeth) or amelogenin peptide (group 4, 59 teeth). The observation was carried out for 18 months. The method of laser fluorescence was used to assess the demineralization of enamel. RESULTS: After treatment, repeated examinations did not reveal carious cavities in groups 1, 2 and 3, and one carious cavity was revealed in group 4 after 18 months. The average values of laser fluorescence after treatment in groups 1, 2 and 4 decreased slightly, in group 3 they corresponded to the values of healthy enamel throughout the observation period. CONCLUSION: The use of noninvasive and microinvasive methods of treatment of permanent tooth enamel caries in children was effective. However, according to laser fluorescence, only the use of caries infiltration significantly reduced enamel demineralization.

RESUMO

The purpose of the publication was to present the materials of the Expert Council Consensus on 'A Modern View on the Treatment and Preventive Effect of Fluoride Containing Personal Oral Care Products', which took place on April 21, 2019 in Moscow (Russia) with the support of the pharmaceutical company JSC GlaskoSmitKlein Helsker. During the work of the expert council, a solution was developed for the safe use of fluoride-containing oral hygiene products as part of fluoride prevention of dental caries. In the real conditions of everyday life, it is advisable for dentists to: use local fluoride-containing agents to know the concentration of fluoride in drinking water and in areas with low and optimal levels of it; recommend fluorides for daily use in small concentrations, for example, for children from 2 years of age to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for at least 3 minutes; children up to 6 years old, when brushing their teeth once, use no more than a pea-size piece of toothpaste with 500 ppm of fluoride; toothpastes with fluoride concentration from 500 to 5000 ppm should be admitted depending on the risk level of caries development; rinses with a fluoride concentration of 0.025-0.05% should be recommended for children from 6 years and adults twice a day for 1 minute after brushing teeth; for patients with a high risk of caries, periodically (from 2 to 6 times a year) to carry out applications with agents with high concentration of fluorides; for prolonging the effect of local fluorine-containing agents advise patients to refrain from eating and drinking for an hour after their use. Dentists should know the methods of fluoride use in dentistry, since fluoride prevention of caries should be an integral part of their therapeutic and preventive work.
