DRESS syndrome: an unlikely diagnosis with an unlikely cause.

Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms syndrome is a rare and severe adverse drug reaction which is potentially life-threatening. We report a case of a 66-year-old male, with no prior history of allergies, who went to the emergency department with fever, headache and a rash, 12 days following receiving metronidazole for 7 days. He had no recent trips, contact with sick people or animals. The authors aim to alert to an uncommon and serious syndrome caused by an unlikely drug.

[Susacs syndrome: case report]. / Síndrome de Susac: relato de caso.

We present the case of a 34-year-old woman with clinical picture suggestive of Susacs syndrome, or retinocochlear vasculopathy. This syndrome, which was described for the first time in 1979, is characterized by a clinical triad of encephalopathy, neurosensorial deafness and visual deficit. Its pathogenesis and treatment are still disputed. We have called special attention to differential diagnosis, since this entity has not yet been described in Brazil, and is probably underdiagnosed.

[Spontaneous intracranial hypotension: case report]. / Hipotensão intracraniana espontânea. Relato de caso.

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension is a rare syndrome associated with postural cephalalgia and low pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid. We report the case of a 45 years-old man with spontaneous intracranial hypotension with MRI diffuse meningeal enhancement.

[Evolution of the total volatile basis and trimethylamine in fish and their use as an indicator of its quality]. / Evolução das bases voláteis totals e da trimetilamina em pescados e o seu uso como indicador de qualidade.

The authors followed trimetylamine (TMA) and Total Volatile Basis (TVB) evolution in some Brazilian fishes during ice storage at 4 degrees C for 15 days. The fishes studied were: Micropogon furniere, Umbrina canosai, Centropomus undecimalis, Cysnoscion acoupa; samples were taken and analyzed each 48 h. Each species was stored eviscerated (E) or not-eviscerated (NE) in order to estabilish a possible advantage of on board evisceration. The results showed a log. relation between TVB or TMA percentage in the fish tissues and the days of storage; Mathematical models were established for predicting "storage life" for each fish out the basis of its amine content. Evisceration, immediatly after capture retarded deterioration and seem to be a useful practice.
