RESUMO

Zinc norcorrole was prepared as its pyridine complex (ZnNc·pyridine) by metalation of freebase norcorrole. The ZnNc·pyridine complex is distinctly bowl-shaped, as demonstrated by both X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. NMR spectroscopy showed characteristic ring current deshielding effects, with different magnitudes on either face of the bowl-shaped complex. Exchanging the pyridine ligand with the bidentate ligand DABCO results in the formation of a stable (ZnNc)2·DABCO sandwich complex, which was also characterized by crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. The NMR resonances of the axial ligands in all of the complexes demonstrate that the paratropic ring current in zinc norcorrole is approximately 40 nA/T, which is comparable in magnitude to the diatropic ring current in porphyrin. Analysis of the ligand-exchange processes on addition of DABCO to ZnNc·pyridine showed that ZnNc coordinates to axial nitrogen-containing ligands with approximately 1000-fold higher binding constants than analogous zinc porphyrins.

BACKGROUND: Heart transplantation in the neonatal period is associated with excellent survival. However, outcomes data are scant and have been obtained primarily from two single-center reports within the United States. We sought to analyze the outcomes of all neonatal heart transplants performed in the United States using the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) dataset. METHODS: The UNOS dataset was queried for patients who underwent infant heart transplantation from 1987 to 2021. Patients were divided into two groups based on age - neonates (<=31 days), and older infants (32 days-365 days). Demographic and clinical characteristics were analyzed and compared, along with follow up survival data. RESULTS: Overall, 474 newborns have undergone heart transplantation in the United States since 1987. Freedom from death or re-transplantation for neonates was 63.5%, 58.8% and 51.6% at 5, 10, and 20 years, respectively. Patients in the newborn group had lower unadjusted survival compared to older infants (p < .001), but conditional 1-year survival was higher in neonates (p = .03). On multivariable analysis, there was no significant difference in survival between the two age groups (p = .43). Black race, congenital heart disease diagnosis, earlier surgical era, and preoperative mechanical circulatory support use were associated with lower survival among infant transplants (p < .05). CONCLUSIONS: Neonatal heart transplantation is associated with favorable long-term clinical outcomes. Neonates do not have a significant survival advantage over older infants. Widespread applicability is limited by the small number of available donors. Efforts to expand the donor pool to include non-standard donor populations ought to be considered.

KEY MESSAGE: The Osckx2 mutant accumulates cytokinin thereby enhancing panicle branching, grain yield, and drought tolerance, marked by improved survival rate, membrane integrity, and photosynthetic function. Cytokinins (CKs) are multifaceted hormones that regulate growth, development, and stress responses in plants. Cytokinins have been implicated in improved panicle architecture and grain yield; however, they are inactivated by the enzyme cytokinin oxidase (CKX). In this study, we developed a cytokinin oxidase 2 (Osckx2)-deficient mutant using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing in indica rice and assessed its function under water-deficit and salinity conditions. Loss of OsCKX2 function increased grain number, secondary panicle branching, and overall grain yield through improved cytokinin content in the panicle tissue. Under drought conditions, the Osckx2 mutant conserved more water and demonstrated improved water-saving traits. Through reduced transpiration, Osckx2 mutants showed an improved survival response than the wild type to unset dehydration stress. Further, Osckx2 maintained chloroplast and membrane integrity and showed significantly improved photosynthetic function under drought conditions through enhanced antioxidant protection systems. The OsCKX2 function negatively affects panicle grain number and drought tolerance, with no discernible impact in response to salinity. The finding suggests the utility of the beneficial Osckx2 allele in breeding to develop climate-resilient, high-yielding cultivars for future food security.

INTRODUCTION: Neurogenic Heterotopic ossification (NHO) is a potential sequalae and a detrimental complication following neurological insult. It is characterized by formation of localized gradually progressive, peri-articular lamellar bone formation in extra-skeletal tissues. We would like to report a rare case of heterotopic ossification involving all 4 limbs, in which we tried to restore joint mobility to improve his functional status so that he could perform his daily tasks. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a 33-year-old bed ridden male, diagnosed with NHO involving all 4 limbs (bilateral hip, right knee, right shoulder, left elbow). The patient had a crippled posture, significant pain and impaired range of motion hampering movement of all four limbs which prevented him from lying down supine, sitting, walking and performing activities of daily living. After three surgeries, the patient achieved wheelchair mobilization and upright posture with the assistance of calipers. CONCLUSION: The management of NHO requires a multidisciplinary approach involving orthopaedic surgeons, neurologists & rehabilitation specialists. Prognosis of NHO depends on factors such as extent of ossification, underlying neurological condition & patients overall health.

Discrete spin crossover (SCO) heteronuclear cages are a rare class of materials which have potential use in next-generation molecular transport and catalysis. Previous investigations of cubic cage [Fe8 Pd6 L8 ]28+ constructed using semi-rigid metalloligands, found that FeII centers of the cage did not undergo spin transition. In this work, substitution of the secondary metal center at the face of the cage resulted in SCO behavior, evidenced by magnetic susceptibility, Mössbauer spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural comparisons of these two cages shed light on the possible interplay of inter- and intramolecular interactions associated with SCO in the NiII analogue, 1 ([Fe8 Ni6 L8 (CH3 CN)12 ]28+ ). The distorted octahedral coordination environment, as well as the occupation of the CH3 CN in the NiII axial positions of 1, prevented close packing of cages observed in the PdII analogue. This led to offset, distant packing arrangements whereby important areas within the cage underwent dramatic structural changes with the exhibition of SCO.

Electrical, thermal, and spectral characterizations of ferroelectric liquid crystal obtained from the precursors namely camphoric acid and heptyloxy benzoic acid abbreviated as CA + 7BAO. This mesogen exhibits two phases smectic C* and smectic G* in its exothermic run. DSC thermograms reveals the phase transition temperatures and enthalpy values of those phases. The spectral information recorded through Fourier transform infrared spectroscope reveals the possession of hydrogen bond. An interesting feature of this work lies in realizing the constant current device with variation to both temperature as well as potential. The same observation shall be utilized for the sensitive biomedical instruments where the current rating above few µA increment do have significant effect. Furthermore, the research work also reveals the information about the linearity of the thermo-electric graph with respect to phase transition temperatures. Thermoelectric Plot.

With scaling of dynamic RAM and NAND memory technologies reaching a limit, there is a need for dynamic memory with high density. In this work, an investigation on existence of dynamic memory feature in a frequency tuned homologous series of thermotropic liquid crystals has been carried out. A homologues series of five thermotropic liquid crystalline compounds comprising of 4-butyl benzoic acid and various alkyloxy benzoic acids are prepared, and all these mesogens exhibit only nematic phase. Liquid crystal dynamic memory storage setup consists of a conducting transparent glass cell with two indium tin oxide coated transparent glass plates acting as electrical electrodes in which the selected thermotropic liquid crystal is filled by capillary action. The temperature dependent dielectric relaxation studies enable to elucidate the relaxation frequency of each of these mesogens in nematic phase. The liquid crystal at different temperatures is excited with the relaxation frequency at various chosen fields, and the dielectric hysteresis is recorded. The magnitude of the hysteresis loop is directly proportional to the memory storage capacity. The main objective of this work is observation of dynamic memory storage in liquid crystals exhibiting nematic phase, at different frequencies in a thermotropic liquid crystal as the ingredient in a conducting polyamide buffed glass cell excited by an external electrical dc stimulus. The variation of the hysteresis loop with varying field; temperature and frequency are also studied and reported in this work.

Genome-wide deleterious mutations were identified in zebu cattle (Bos indicus) using in silico approach. The ddRAD sequence data of Sahiwal cattle were annotated and aligned with the cattle reference genome (ARS-UCD1.2). A total of 279,383 SNPs were identified at Read Depth10, which were further filtered to 692 missense SNPs. These SNPs were further analyzed, for functional consequences, by using Variant Effect Predictor, PolyPhen, PROVEAN, and PANTHER tools. A total of 18 SNPs, were finally identified as deleterious, and among these, 12 SNPs were mapped on nine different genes. ERRAT, ProSA-web, Project HOPE, TM-Align, and YASSARA tools, further confirmed the protein malfunctioning of one missense (L290V) mutation of Retinoblastoma binding protein-5 (RBBP5) gene, transcribing a cell cycle regulatory protein and associated with Retinoblastoma in human. This derived bioinformatics pipeline may be useful for preliminarily identifying the deleterious DNA mutations in livestock, specifically in absence of any genetic disease records.

A thermotropic hydrogen bond liquid crystal ClBAO + 6BAO is synthesized by mixing in equimolar ratios of chlorobenzoic acid and hexyloxybenzoic acid. FTIR studies conform the formation of hydrogen bond between the precursors. This mesogen exhibits nematic phase with long thermal range. DSC thermogram specified the transition temperatures and their respective enthalpy values. Dielectric spectroscopy is performed in the range between 5 Hz and 13 MHz; two types of relaxations, namely type 1 and types 2, are identified and studied extensively. Both of these relaxation are observed to follow Debye relaxation behavior. Type 1 relaxation process, referred as soft mode, is examined at 1 kHz; a mild shift in the relaxation frequency is noticed as temperature decreased. Type 2 relaxation is observed at 9.4 MHz, and the relaxation frequency magnitude shifted to 10.61 MHz with decrement in the temperature. Cole-Cole plots are constructed for both of these relaxation, and the corresponding activation energy is experimentally deduced from the Arrhenius plots. Another interesting observation is the temperature response of this mesogen to resistance. Both positive and negative slopes are identified in thermos-resistive plots thus by modulating the liquid crystal temperature. Perhaps, this is the first report to notice both behaviors in a mono-mesogen segregated by few degrees of temperature. Features of dielectric studies and thermistor applications are discussed in detail.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the association and risk factors of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) and burden of illness among chemotherapy-induced ulcerative mucositis (UM) patients. METHODS: For this research, US National Inpatient Sample database 2017 was utilized to study UM patients. The association of healthcare-associated infection-related burden of illness among UM patients was assessed on the outcome--length of hospital stays (LOS), total charges, in-hospital mortality, and discharge disposition. RESULT: In 2017, there were 11,350 adult (> 18 years of age) UM patients, among them there were 415 (3.5%) HAI. After adjusting for patient and clinical characteristics, UM patients with HAI were most likely to have higher total charges and longer LOS (1.91; 95% CIs: 1.51-2.41; P < 0.001; 1.84; 95% CIs: 1.53-2.21; P < 0.001) than those without HAI. Further, mortality was not significantly different. UM patients with HAI were less likely to have higher burden of illness who were younger, females, those living in non-metropolitan or micropolitan counties, and those with lower co-morbidity score. Additionally, UM patients with HAI were more likely to discharge to skilled nursing facility (SNF), intermediate care facility (ICF), and another type of facility (ATF), (aOR = 2.58 (1.16-5.76), P = 0.02), than they were to discharge to self-care or home care. CONCLUSION: UM patients with HAI were more likely to have higher burden of illness and more likely to discharged to the SNF, ICF, and ATF rather than to home or self-care. Clinical relevance UM patients when associated with HAI have higher burden of illness; a tailored approach to oral care might prevent HAIs and burden of illness among UM.

PURPOSE: The treatment and outcome of tibial stress fractures concomitant with knee osteoarthritis (OA) are complicated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the functional and radiological outcome of total knee arthroplasty with long tibial stem as a treatment for patients having knee OA and tibial stress fracture. METHODS: Patients who were diagnosed to have proximal tibia stress fracture along with knee OA at our institution between June 2013 and November 2018 were included in our study. All patients underwent total knee arthroplasty with long tibial stem. Preoperative and postoperative functional assessments were done according to range of movement of the knee joint, knee society score and knee injury and OA outcome score. Descriptive analysis was carried out by mean and standard deviation for quantitative variables, frequency and proportion for categorical variables. RESULTS: Twelve patients were included in the study. All patients were found to have stress fractures in the proximal half of tibia and extra-arthrosis. Four patients had non-union/delayed union, and 8 patients had acute fractures. The average preoperative range of movement was 88.1°, which improved to 116.3° at 3 months following surgery. It was found that the fracture has healed in all cases. Mean knee society score improved from 32.9 preoperatively to 89.3 at 1 year follow-up. Knee injury and OA outcome score improved from a mean score of 28.3 preoperatively to 81.1 at 1 year follow-up. CONCLUSION: Stress fractures can occur in the proximal tibia in patients with knee OA. Total knee arthroplasty with tibial stem provides a suitable solution for both conditions. Additional plating or bone graft is unlikely to be required.

The alternating physical properties, especially melting points, of α,ω-disubstituted n-alkanes and their parent n-alkanes had been known since Baeyer's report in 1877. There is, however, no general and comprehensive explanation for such a phenomenon. Herein, we report the synthesis and examination of a series of novel ω-phenyl n-alkyl tropylium tetrafluoroborates, which also display alternation in their physicochemical characters. Despite being organic salts, the compounds with odd numbers of carbons in the alkyl bridge exist as room temperature ionic liquids. In stark contrast to this, the analogues with even numbers of carbons in the linker are crystalline solids. These solid nonconjugated molecules exhibit curious photoluminescent properties, which can be attributed to their ability to form through-space charge-transfer complexes to cause crystallization-induced emission enhancement. Most notably, the compound with the highest photoluminescent quantum yield in this series showed an unusual arrangement of carbocationic dimer in the solid state. A combination of XRD analysis and ab initio calculations revealed interesting insights into these systems.

BACKGROUND: The non-transferrin bound catalytic iron moiety catalyses production of toxic reactive oxygen species and is associated with adverse outcomes. We hypothesized that serum catalytic iron (SCI) is associated with progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: Baseline samples of the Indian Chronic Kidney Disease participants with at least one follow up visit were tested for total iron, iron binding capacity, transferrin saturation, SCI, ferritin and hepcidin. SCI was measured using the bleomycin-detectable iron assay that detects biologically active iron. Association with the incidence of major kidney endpoints, (MAKE, a composite of kidney death, kidney failure or > 40% loss of eGFR) was examined using Cox proportional hazards model adjusted for sex and age. RESULTS: 2002 subjects (49.9 ± 11.6 years, 68.1% males, baseline eGFR 41.01 ml/min/1.73m2) were enrolled. After a median follow up of 12.6 (12.2, 16.7) months, the composite MAKE occurred in 280 (14%). After adjusting for age and sex, increase from 25th to 75th percentile in SCI, transferrin saturation, ferritin and hepcidin were associated with 78% (43-122%), 34% (10-62%), 57% (24-100%) and 74% (35-124%) increase in hazard of MAKE, respectively. SCI was associated with MAKE and kidney failure after adjustment for occupational exposure, hypertension, diabetes, tobacco, alcohol use, history of AKI, baseline eGFR, uACR, and allowing baseline hazard to vary by centre. CONCLUSIONS: SCI is strongly and independently associated with composite MAKE in patients with mild to moderate CKD. Confirmation in other studies will allow consideration of SCI as a risk marker and treatment target.

The rate and mechanism of the elimination of N2O from trans-R3Sn-O-N═N-O-SnR3 (R = Ph (1Ph) and R = Cy (1Cy)) to form R3Sn-O-SnR3 (R = Ph (2Ph) and R = Cy (2Cy)) have been studied using both NMR and IR techniques to monitor the reactions in the temperature range of 39-79 °C in C6D6. Activation parameters for this reaction are ΔH⧧ = 15.8 ± 2.0 kcal·mol-1 and ΔS⧧ = -28.5 ± 5 cal·mol-1·K-1 for 1Ph and ΔH⧧ = 22.7 ± 2.5 kcal·mol-1 and ΔS⧧ = -12.4 ± 6 cal·mol-1·K-1 for 1Cy. Addition of O2, CO2, N2O, or PPh3 to sealed tube NMR experiments did not alter in a detectable way the rate or product distribution of the reactions. Computational DFT studies of elimination of hyponitrite from trans-Me3Sn-O-N═N-O-SnMe3 (1Me) yield a mechanism involving initial migration of the R3Sn group from O to N passing through a marginally stable intermediate product and subsequent N2O elimination. Reactions of 1Ph with protic acids HX are rapid and lead to formation of R3SnX and trans-H2N2O2. Reaction of 1Ph with the metal radical •Cr(CO)3C5Me5 at low concentrations results in rapid evolution of N2O. At higher •Cr(CO)3C5Me5 concentrations, evolution of CO2 rather than N2O is observed. Addition of 1 atm or less CO2 to benzene or toluene solutions of 2Ph and 2Cy resulted in very rapid reaction to form the corresponding carbonates R3Sn-O-C(═O)-O-SnR3 (R = Ph (3Ph) and R = Cy (3Cy)) at room temperature. Evacuation results in fast loss of bound CO2 and regeneration of 2Ph and 2Cy. Variable temperature data for formation of 3Cy yield ΔHo = -8.7 ± 0.6 kcal·mol-1, ΔSo = -17.1 ± 2.0 cal·mol-1·K-1, and ΔGo298K = -3.6 ± 1.2 kcal·mol-1. DFT studies were performed and provide additional insight into the energetics and mechanisms for the reactions.

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the deadliest infectious diseases of human civilization. Approximately one-third of global population is latently infected with the TB pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb). The discovery of anti-TB antibiotics leads to decline in death rate of TB. However, the evolution of antibiotic-resistant M.tb-strain and the resurgence of different immune-compromised diseases re-escalated the death rate of TB. WHO has already cautioned about the chances of pandemic situation in TB endemic countries until the discovery of new anti-tubercular drugs, that is, the need of the hour. Analysing the pathogenesis of TB, it was found that M.tb evades the host by altering the balance of immune response and affects either by killing the cells or by creating inflammation. In the pre-antibiotic era, traditional medicines were only therapeutic measures for different infectious diseases including tuberculosis. The ancient literatures of India or ample Indian traditional knowledge and ethnomedicinal practices are evidence for the treatment of TB using different indigenous plants. However, in the light of modern scientific approach, anti-TB effects of those plants and their bioactive molecules were not established thoroughly. In this review, focus has been given on five bioactive molecules of different traditionally used Indian ethnomedicinal plants for treatment of TB or TB-like symptom. These compounds are also validated with proper identification and their mode of action with modern scientific approaches. The effectiveness of these molecules for sensitive or drug-resistant TB pathogen in clinical or preclinical studies was also evaluated. Thus, our specific aim is to highlight such scientifically validated bioactive compounds having anti-mycobacterial and immunomodulatory activity for future use as medicine or adjunct-therapeutic molecule for TB management.

BACKGROUND: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) as a modality of kidney replacement therapy (KRT) is largely underutilized globally. We analyzed PD utilization, impact of economic status, projected growth and impact of state policy(s) on PD growth in South Asia and Southeast Asia (SA&SEA) region. METHODS: The National Nephrology Societies of the region responded to a questionnaire on KRT practices. The responses were based on the latest registry data, acceptable community-based studies and societal perceptions. The representative countries were divided into high income and higher-middle income (HI & HMI) and low income and lower-middle income (LI & LMI) groups. RESULTS: Data provided by 15 countries showed almost similar percentage of GDP as health expenditure (4%-7%). But there was a significant difference in per capita income (HI & HMI -US$ 28 129 vs. LI & LMI - US$ 1710.2) between the groups. Even after having no significant difference in monthly cost of haemodialysis (HD) and PD in LI & LMI countries, they have poorer PD utilization as compared to HI & HMI countries (3.4% vs. 10.1%); the reason being lack of formal training/incentives and time constraints for the nephrologist while lack of reimbursement and poor general awareness of modalities has been a snag for the patients. The region expects ≥10% PD growth in the near future. Hong Kong and Thailand with 'PD first' policy have the highest PD utilization. CONCLUSION: Important deterrents to PD underutilization were lack of PD centric policies, lackadaisical patient/physician's attitude, lack of structured patient awareness programs, formal training programs and affordability.

AIM: There is paucity of data on the epidemiology of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) from South Asia and South-East Asia. The objective of this study was to assess the aetiology, practice patterns and disease burden and growth of ESKD in the region comparing the economies. METHODS: The national nephrology societies of the region; responded to the questionnaire; based on latest registries, acceptable community-based studies and society perceptions. The countries in the region were classified into Group 1 (High|higher-middle-income) and Group 2 (lower|lowermiddle income). Student t-test, Mann-Whitney U test and Fisher's exact test were used for comparison. RESULTS: Fifteen countries provided the data. The average incidence of ESKD was estimated at 226.7 per million population (pmp), (Group 1 vs. Group 2, 305.8 vs. 167.8 pmp) and average prevalence at 940.8 pmp (Group 1 vs. Group 2, 1306 vs. 321 pmp). Group 1 countries had a higher incidence and prevalence of ESKD. Diabetes, hypertension and chronic glomerulonephritis were most common causes. The mean age in Group 2 was lower by a decade (Group 1 vs. Group 2-59.45 vs 47.7 years). CONCLUSION: Haemodialysis was the most common kidney replacement therapy in both groups and conservative management of ESKD was the second commonest available treatment option within Group 2. The disease burden was expected to grow >20% in 50% of Group 1 countries and 78% of Group 2 countries along with the parallel growth in haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

Candida albicans, an opportunistic fungal pathogen, frequently colonizes immune-compromised patients and causes mild to severe systemic reactions. Only few antifungal drugs are currently in use for therapeutic treatment. However, evolution of a drug-resistant C. albicans fungal pathogen is of major concern in the treatment of patients, hence the clinical need for novel drug design and development. In this study, in vitro screening of novel putative pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoline derivatives as the lead drug targets and in silico prediction of the binding potential of these lead molecules against C. albicans pathogenic proteins, such as secreted aspartic protease 3 (SAP3; 2H6T), surface protein ß-glucanase (3N9K) and sterol 14-alpha demethylase (5TZ1), were carried out by molecular docking analyses. Further, biological activity-based QSAR and theoretical pharmacokinetic analysis were analyzed. Here, in vitro screening of novel analogue derivatives as drug targets against C. albicans showed inhibitory potential in the concentration of 0.4 µg for BQ-06, 07 and 08, 0.8 µg for BQ-01, 03, and 05, 1.6 µg for BQ-04 and 12.5 µg for BQ-02 in comparison to the standard antifungal drug fluconazole in the concentration of 30 µg. Further, in silico analysis of BQ-01, 03, 05 and 07 analogues docked on chimeric 2H6T, 3N9K and 5TZ1 revealed that these analogues show potential binding affinity, which is different from the therapeutic antifungal drug fluconazole. In addition, these molecules possess good drug-like properties based on the determination of conceptual Density Functional Theory (DFT)-based descriptors, QSAR and pharmacokinetics. Thus, the study offers significant insight into employing pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoline analogues as novel antifungal agents against C. albicans that warrants further investigation.

Gelotology, or the science of laughter, is developing as a complementary field of medicine. Laughter therapy has been shown to have multifaceted physiological and endocrine benefits, and is being used to help manage various chronic diseases. This communication describes some aspects of laughter therapy, and reviews evidence related to its therapeutic potential in diabetes care.

Coronavirus disease 2019 emerged as the first example of "Disease X", a hypothetical disease of humans caused by an unknown infectious agent that was named as novel coronavirus and subsequently designated as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The origin of the outbreak at the animal market in Wuhan, China implies it as a case of zoonotic spillover. The study was designed to understand evolution of Betacoronaviruses and in particular diversification of SARS-CoV-2 using RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) gene, a stable genetic marker. Phylogenetic and population stratification analyses were carried out using maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods, respectively. Molecular phylogeny using RdRp showed that SARS-CoV-2 isolates cluster together. Bat-CoV isolate RaTG13 and Pangolin-CoVs are observed to branch off prior to SARS-CoV-2 cluster. While SARS-CoV form a single cluster, Bat-CoVs form multiple clusters. Population-based analyses revealed that both SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV form separate clusters with no admixture. Bat-CoVs were found to have single and mixed ancestry and clustered as four sub-populations. Population-based analyses of Betacoronaviruses using RdRp revealed that SARS-CoV-2 is a homogeneous population. SARS-CoV-2 appears to have evolved from Bat-CoV isolate RaTG13, which diversified from a common ancestor from which Pangolin-CoVs have also evolved. The admixed Bat-CoV sub-populations indicate that bats serve as reservoirs harboring virus ensembles that are responsible for zoonotic spillovers such as SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2. The extent of admixed isolates of Bat-CoVs observed in population diversification studies underline the need for periodic surveillance of bats and other animal reservoirs for potential spillovers as a measure towards preparedness for emergence of zoonosis.
