RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Determination of isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) status and, if IDH-mutant, assessing 1p19q codeletion are an important component of diagnosis of World Health Organization grades II/III or lower-grade gliomas. This has led to research into noninvasively correlating imaging features ("radiomics") with genetic status. PURPOSE: Our aim was to perform a diagnostic test accuracy systematic review for classifying IDH and 1p19q status using MR imaging radiomics, to provide future directions for integration into clinical radiology. DATA SOURCES: Ovid (MEDLINE), Scopus, and the Web of Science were searched in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Diagnostic Test Accuracy guidelines. STUDY SELECTION: Fourteen journal articles were selected that included 1655 lower-grade gliomas classified by their IDH and/or 1p19q status from MR imaging radiomic features. DATA ANALYSIS: For each article, the classification of IDH and/or 1p19q status using MR imaging radiomics was evaluated using the area under curve or descriptive statistics. Quality assessment was performed with the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 tool and the radiomics quality score. DATA SYNTHESIS: The best classifier of IDH status was with conventional radiomics in combination with convolutional neural network-derived features (area under the curve = 0.95, 94.4% sensitivity, 86.7% specificity). Optimal classification of 1p19q status occurred with texture-based radiomics (area under the curve = 0.96, 90% sensitivity, 89% specificity). LIMITATIONS: A meta-analysis showed high heterogeneity due to the uniqueness of radiomic pipelines. CONCLUSIONS: Radiogenomics is a potential alternative to standard invasive biopsy techniques for determination of IDH and 1p19q status in lower-grade gliomas but requires translational research for clinical uptake.

RESUMO

Benzyl, furfuryl, tetrahydronaphthyl, alpha-picolyl, and alpha-homopicolyl derivatives of 2-thiotetrahydro-1,3,5-thiadiazines were studied and found to be more active than beta-picolyl, and pyridyl analogs on dermatophytes, including the more resistant Microsporum canis.

RESUMO

The anomeric configuration of the sugar residues of the capsular polysaccharide antigen of Staphylococcus aureus M were established by 13C-n.m.r. spectroscopy, and the linkage positions by g.l.c.-m.s. after methylation, indicating a leads to 4)-O-(2-acetamido-2-deoxy-alpha-D-galactopyranosyluronic acid)-(1 leads to 4)-O-(2-acetamido-2-deoxy-alpha-D-galactopyranosyluronic acid)-(1 leads to 3)-O-(2-acetamido-2-deoxy-alpha-D-fucopyranosyl)-(1 leads to repeating unit. A taurine residue is linked by an amide bond, on the average, to every fourth 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactopyranosyluronic acid residue.

RESUMO

We report a 31-year-old man with chronic renal failure and ascites who developed severe abdominal pain and a local non-pulsatile mass after therapeutic paracentesis. Doppler study confirmed a pseudoaneurysm of the right inferior epigastric artery. The patient recovered after the artery was ligated and the aneurysm excised.

RESUMO

Severe oxidative stress has been reported in leprosy patients because of malnutrition and poor immunity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the serum lipid peroxidation products, serum LDH and important free radical scavenging enzymes, i.e. superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase and anti-oxidant glutathione levels and total anti-oxidant status, in different types of leprosy patients. The subjects for this study were normal human volunteers (NHVs, n=14), paucibacillary leprosy patients (PB, n=18), untreated MB patients (MB1, n=18), MB patients under treatment (MB2, n=19), and MB patients released from treatment (RFT) (MB3, n=28). The levels of lipid peroxidation product, malondialdehyde (MDA), and LDH increased significantly (p<0.001) in MB (MB1, MB2, MB3) patients, and both gradually decreased with clinical improvement following MDT. The levels of SOD, catalase and glutathione, and the total anti-oxidant status decreased significantly in MB (MB1, MB2, MB3) patients (p<0.001), in comparison with NHVs. They gradually increased with clinical improvement with MDT. There was no significant variation of these parameters in PB leprosy patients in comparison with healthy volunteers. High free radical activity and low anti-oxidant levels observed in MB (MB1, MB2, MB3) leprosy patients indicate that there is an oxidative stress in MB cases, irrespective of the treatment status and suggest a suitable anti-oxidant therapy to prevent possible tissue injury.

RESUMO

A method of measuring tibial torsion with ultrasound, using reference lines on the tibia, was developed and tested on dry adult tibiae. This technique was used for evaluation of a group of children with apparently normal tibiae and another group of children with spina bifida, cerebral palsy, or clubfoot. The study showed that it is possible to measure true tibial torsion (rather than tibiofibular torsion) with ultrasound. The technique was found to be reliable and accurate enough for routine clinical use and had advantages over clinical methods and other radiographic imaging techniques. Values obtained by this technique are higher than those obtained by methods using the bimalleolar axis as the distal reference line.
