RESUMO

This study analyzes the difference between non-invasive and invasive pelvic floor electric stimulation therapeutic apparatus. Through establishing the resistance network model of human pelvic floor muscle group, using circuit loop analysis and simulation, the current and voltage distribution are obtained, and the conclusions are listed as follows: Since invasive electrode has a central symmetry, pelvic floor muscles have equipotential areas and unable to form the current loop. Non-invasive electrodes don't have this problem. With the same stimulation conditions, non-invasive stimulation intensity of the superficial pelvic floor muscle is the highest, followed by the middle and the deep layer. While the invasive electrode stimulates the superficial and deep pelvic floor muscles moderately, the middle pelvic floor muscles some parts strongly, some parts weakly. The results of in vitro experiments show that the tissue impedance is very small, and the non-invasive electrical stimulation is well conducted into the tissue, which is consistent with the analysis and simulation results.

RESUMO

As a new energy source for atrial fibrillation ablation, electric pulse ablation has higher tissue selectivity and biosafety, so it has a great application prospect. At present, there is very limited research on multi-electrode simulated ablation of histological electrical pulse. In this study, a circular multi-electrode ablation model of pulmonary vein will be built on COMSOL5.5 platform for simulation research. The results show that when the voltage amplitude reaches about 900 V, it can make some positions achieve transmural ablation, and the depth of continuous ablation area formed can reach 3 mm when the voltage amplitude reaches 1 200 V. When the distance between catheter electrode and myocardial tissue is increased to 2 mm, a voltage of at least 2 000 V is required to make the depth of continuous ablation area reach 3 mm. Through the simulation of electric pulse ablation with ring electrode, the research results of this project can provide reference for the voltage selection in the clinical application of electric pulse ablation.

RESUMO

The unipolar/bipolar pacing mode of pacemaker is related to its circuit impedance, which affects the battery life. In this study, the in vitro experiment scheme of pacemaker circuit impedance test was constructed. The human blood environment was simulated by NaCl solution, and the experimental environment temperature was controlled by water bath. The results of in vitro experiments showed that under the experimental conditions similar to clinical human parameters, the difference between the circuit impedance of bipolar mode and unipolar mode is 120~200 Ω. The results of the in vitro experiment confirmed that the circuit impedance of bipolar circuit was larger than that of unipolar mode, which was found in clinical practice. The results of this study have reference value to the optimization of pacing mode and the reduction of pacemaker power consumption.

RESUMO

At present, the standard left atrial appendage occlusion procedure mainly involves two-dimensional imaging methods such as X-ray fluoroscopy and transesophageal echocardiography to guide the operation, which will lead to underestimation of the three dimensional structure of the left atrial appendage and the surrounding tissue, thus adversely affects the surgery. To solve this problem, a surgery assist system for left atrial appendage occlusion based on preoperative cardiac CT images is developed. The proposed system realizes the left atrial appendage parameter measurement based on cardiac CT image, and realizes the calculation of optimal delivery sheath trajectory and three-dimensional simulation of the delivery sheath movement on the basis of a novel delivery sheath trajectory model. The system is expected to provide precise guidance for left atrial appendage occlusion, improve the success rate and safety of the operation, and at the same time help reduce the difficulty of learning the operation, and facilitate the promotion of left atrial appendage occlusion.

RESUMO

Atmospheric-pressure N2, He, air, and O2 microplasma arrays have been used to inactivate Escherichia coli cells suspended in aqueous solution. Measurements show that the efficiency of inactivation of E. coli cells is strongly dependent on the feed gases used, the plasma treatment time, and the discharge power. Compared to atmospheric-pressure N2 and He microplasma arrays, air and O2 microplasma arrays may be utilized to more efficiently kill E. coli cells in aqueous solution. The efficiencies of inactivation of E. coli cells in water can be well described by using the chemical reaction rate model, where reactive oxygen species play a crucial role in the inactivation process. Analysis indicates that plasma-generated reactive species can react with E. coli cells in water by direct or indirect interactions.

RESUMO

Visually impaired people face many inconveniences because of the loss of vision. Therefore, scientists are trying to design various guidance systems for improving the lives of the blind. Based on sensory substitution, auditory guidance has become an interesting topic in the field of biomedical engineering. In this paper, we made a state-of-technique review of the auditory guidance system. Although there have been many technical challenges, the auditory guidance system would be a useful alternative for the visually impaired people.

RESUMO

GOAL: We applied a low-intensity pulsed transcranial ultrasound stimulation (pTUS) to the ischemic cortex after a distal middle cerebral artery occlusion (dMCAO) to study whether pTUS is capable of protecting brain from ischemic injury. METHODS: Rats were randomly assigned to Sham (n = 6), Control (n = 16), and pTUS (n = 16) groups. The pTUS-treated rats were subjected to 60-min ultrasonic stimulation immediately after the ischemia. After 48 h, the sensorimotor-related behavioral outcomes were assessed by a neurological severity score (NSS), and the permanent brain injury was assessed by the histologic analysis of TTC staining of brain slices. RESULTS: pTUS group showed significantly lower NSS (n = 10, 5.5 ± 2.5) than the Control group ( n = 10, 10.5 ±1.4) (p < 0.01). Concordantly, the ischemic lesion was significantly reduced after receiving pTUS immediately after dMCAO. The cortical infarct volume in the control group was more than threefold of the pTUS group (43.39% ± 2.33%, n = 16 versus 13.78% ± 8.18%, n = 16, p < 0.01). Immunohistochemical staining indicated reduction of neutrophils in the affected area, and laser speckle imaging showed significant increase of a cerebral blood flow after pTUS, which consistently supported the neuroprotection of pTUS in ischemic brain injury. CONCLUSION: Both behavior and histological results suggested that pTUS on ischemic core immediately after ischemic stroke could be neuroprotective. SIGNIFICANCE: The noninvasiveness and high spatiotemporal resolution of pTUS makes it a unique neuromodulation technique in comparison with the current TMS and tDCS.

RESUMO

At temperatures above 350 degrees C, significant amounts of NOx formed from N2 and O2 have been observed in Cu-ZSM-5 catalyst-pellet filled dielectric barrier discharges, indicating the necessity of using low-temperature performance in all plasma-catalytic processes for removal of air pollutants.

RESUMO

Without visual information, the blind people live in various hardships with shopping, reading, finding objects and etc. Therefore, we developed a portable auditory guide system, called SoundView, for visually impaired people. This prototype system consists of a mini-CCD camera, a digital signal processing unit and an earphone, working with built-in customizable auditory coding algorithms. Employing environment understanding techniques, SoundView processes the images from a camera and detects objects tagged with barcodes. The recognized objects in the environment are then encoded into stereo speech signals for the blind though an earphone. The user would be able to recognize the type, motion state and location of the interested objects with the help of SoundView. Compared with other visual assistant techniques, SoundView is object-oriented and has the advantages of cheap cost, smaller size, light weight, low power consumption and easy customization.
