RESUMO

Melatonin,an endocrine hormone synthesized by the pineal gland, plays an important role in the reproduction. The growth and development of follicles is the basis of female mammalian fertility.Follicles have a high concentration of melatonin.Melatonin receptors exist on ovarian granulosa cells, follicle cells, and oocytes. It regulates the growth and development of these cells and the maturation and atresia of follicles, affecting female fertility. This paper reviews the protective effects and regulatory mechanisms of melatonin on the development of ovarian follicles, granulosa cells, and oocytes and makes an outlook on the therapeutic potential of melatonin for ovarian injury, underpinning the clinical application of melatonin in the future.

RESUMO

Sarcopenic obesity is regarded as a risk factor for the progression and development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Since male sex is a risk factor for NAFLD and skeletal muscle mass markedly varies between the sexes, we examined whether sex influences the association between appendicular skeletal muscle mass to visceral fat area ratio (SVR), that is, an index of skeletal muscle mass combined with abdominal obesity, and the histological severity of NAFLD. The SVR was measured by bioelectrical impedance in a cohort of 613 (M/F = 443/170) Chinese middle-aged individuals with biopsy-proven NAFLD. Multivariable logistic regression and subgroup analyses were used to test the association between SVR and the severity of NAFLD (i.e. non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) or NASH with the presence of any stage of liver fibrosis). NASH was identified by a NAFLD activity score ≥5, with a minimum score of 1 for each of its categories. The presence of fibrosis was classified as having a histological stage ≥1. The SVR was inversely associated with NASH in men (adjusted OR 0·62; 95 % CI 0·42, 0·92, P = 0·017 for NASH, adjusted OR 0·65; 95 % CI 0·43, 0·99, P = 0·043 for NASH with the presence of fibrosis), but not in women (1·47 (95 % CI 0·76, 2·83), P = 0·25 for NASH, and 1·45 (95 % CI 0·74, 2·83), P = 0·28 for NASH with the presence of fibrosis). There was a significant interaction for sex and SVR (Pinteraction = 0·017 for NASH and Pinteraction = 0·033 for NASH with the presence of fibrosis). Our findings show that lower skeletal muscle mass combined with abdominal obesity is strongly associated with the presence of NASH only in men.

RESUMO

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) can induce acute inflammatory response like acute lung inflammation (ALI) or acute respiratory distress syndrome, leading to severe progression and mortality. Therapeutics for treatment of SARS-CoV-2-triggered respiratory inflammation are urgent to be discovered. Our previous study shows that Salvianolic acid C potently inhibits SARS-CoV-2 infection. In this study, we investigated the antiviral effects of a Salvia miltiorrhiza compound, Danshensu, in vitro and in vivo, including the mechanism of S protein-mediated virus attachment and entry into target cells. In authentic and pseudo-typed virus assays in vitro, Danshensu displayed a potent antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 with EC50 of 0.97 µM, and potently inhibited the entry of SARS-CoV-2 S protein-pseudo-typed virus (SARS-CoV-2 S) into ACE2-overexpressed HEK-293T cells (IC50 = 0.31 µM) and Vero-E6 cell (IC50 = 4.97 µM). Mice received SARS-CoV-2 S via trachea to induce ALI, while the VSV-G treated mice served as controls. The mice were administered Danshensu (25, 50, 100 mg/kg, i.v., once) or Danshensu (25, 50, 100 mg·kg-1·d-1, oral administration, for 7 days) before SARS-CoV-2 S infection. We showed that SARS-CoV-2 S infection induced severe inflammatory cell infiltration, severely damaged lung tissue structure, highly expressed levels of inflammatory cytokines, and activated TLR4 and hyperphosphorylation of the NF-κB p65; the high expression of angiotensinogen (AGT) and low expression of ACE2 at the mRNA level in the lung tissue were also observed. Both oral and intravenous pretreatment with Danshensu dose-dependently alleviated the pathological alterations in mice infected with SARS-CoV-2 S. This study not only establishes a mouse model of pseudo-typed SARS-CoV-2 (SARS-CoV-2 S) induced ALI, but also demonstrates that Danshensu is a potential treatment for COVID-19 patients to inhibit the lung inflammatory response.

RESUMO

The FNDC5 gene encodes the fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 that is a membrane protein mainly expressed in skeletal muscle, and the FNDC5 rs3480 polymorphism may be associated with liver disease severity in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We investigated the influence of the FNDC5 rs3480 polymorphism on the relationship between sarcopenia and the histological severity of NAFLD. A total of 370 adult individuals with biopsy-proven NAFLD were studied. The association between the key exposure sarcopenia and the outcome liver histological severity was investigated by binary logistic regression. Stratified analyses were undertaken to examine the impact of FNDC5 rs3480 polymorphism on the association between sarcopenia and the severity of NAFLD histology. Patients with sarcopenia had more severe histological grades of steatosis and a higher prevalence of significant fibrosis and definite non-alcoholic steatohepatitis than those without sarcopenia. There was a significant association between sarcopenia and significant fibrosis (adjusted OR 2·79, 95 % CI 1·31, 5·95, P = 0·008), independent of established risk factors and potential confounders. Among patients with sarcopenia, significant fibrosis occurred more frequently in the rs3480 AA genotype carriers than in those carrying the FNDC5 rs3480 G genotype (43·8 v. 17·2 %, P = 0·031). In the association between sarcopenia and liver fibrosis, there was a significant interaction between the FNDC5 genotype and sarcopenia status (P value for interaction = 0·006). Sarcopenia is independently associated with significant liver fibrosis, and the FNDC5 rs3480 G variant influences the association between sarcopenia and liver fibrosis in patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Some previous studies reported serum autoantibody positivity in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The clinical significance of these findings remains uncertain. We aimed to investigate the association between the presence of serum autoantibodies and liver disease severity in NAFLD. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 388 consecutive patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD were included in the study. Various serum autoantibodies (including also anti-nuclear antibodies [ANA]) were detected by indirect immunofluorescent or immunoblotting assays. Overall, 84 (21.6%) patients with biopsy-confirmed NAFLD had positivity for at least one of the measured serum autoantibodies. ANA positivity was present in 50 (12.9%) patients, whereas anti-U1RNP or pANCA antibodies were detectable in 9 (2.3%) and 6 (1.5%) patients, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that ANA positivity (adjusted-odds ratio: 4.51, 95%CI: 1.77-11.5; P = 0.002) or positivity of any serum autoantibodies (adjusted-odds ratio: 3.14, 95%CI: 1.30-7.62; P = 0.01) were independently associated with advanced liver fibrosis (stages F3-F4). In serum autoantibody/ANA-positive patients, the proportion of those with advanced fibrosis was also greater among carriers of PNPLA3 rs738409 GG or CG than among those carrying PNPLA3 rs738409 CC genotype. CONCLUSIONS: Serum autoantibody positivity was independently associated with advanced liver fibrosis in patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD. The presence of serum autoantibodies in patients with advanced fibrosis occurred more frequently amongst those carrying PNPLA3 rs738409 GG or CG genotypes.

RESUMO

In recent years, microRNAs(miRNAs)have been detected at different stages of follicular development and in different cells of follicles.Extracellular vesicle(EV)-derived miRNAs have also been detected in the follicular fluid of mature follicles.miRNAs participate in the regulation of normal follicular development, and the regulation disorder may lead to the occurrence of some ovarian diseases. In order to further systematically elucidate the regulatory mechanism of miRNAs on follicular development and find suitable EV-derived miRNAs that can predict oocyte development,we reviewed the functions of miRNAs in follicular development from the perspectives of granulosa cell development, oocyte development, and hormone synthesis.

RESUMO

Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is an acknowledged pathogenic mechanism of various ocular diseases, and in situ cells and mobilized bone marrow-derived cells (BMCs) are thought to participate in this process. We aimed to evaluate the roles of integrin α5 in BMCs and vascular endothelial cells (VECs) in the CNV process mediated by SDF-1/CXCR4 signaling. Adult wild-type mice were engrafted with whole BMCs obtained from GFP transgenic mice and then laser injured to induce CNV. BMCs and RF/6A cells were cultured to discover the mechanism of CNV in vitro. BMCs were mobilized to CNV areas, which expressed elevated SDF-1 and CXCR4. When SDF-1 was intravitreally injected, the number of BMCs was profoundly increased. In the SDF-1-treated group, the levels of integrin α5 expressed on BMCs and VECs were significantly higher than those on the cells in the control group. SDF-1 significantly increased the expression and positive ratio of integrin α5, which was involved in the recruitment and differentiation of BMCs into BMC-derived VECs, and these effects were suppressed by the CXCR4 inhibitor AMD3100. The PI3K/AKT pathway rather than the ERK pathway mediated SDF-1/CXCR4 induction of integrin α5. Integrin α5 suppression efficiently prevented the production of TGF-ß and bFGF but not VEGF. Inhibiting the SDF-1/CXCR4-PI3K/AKT-integrin α5 axis reduced CNV severity. Integrin α5 participates in BMC recruitment and differentiation in SDF-1/CXCR4-induced CNV and inhibition of this pathway may be a new approach to inhibit CNV.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) rs738409 polymorphism is associated with NAFLD severity and the PNPLA3 gene is expressed in the kidneys, but whether PNPLA3 rs738409 polymorphism is also associated with renal tubular injury (RTI) is uncertain. We assessed the effect of PNPLA3 genotypes on biomarkers of RTI and glomerular function in subjects with NAFLD who had either normal (nALT) or abnormal (abnALT) alanine aminotransaminase levels. METHODS: Two hundred and seventeen patients with histologically proven NAFLD of which 75 had persistently nALT (below upper limit of normal for 3 months) were included. Multivariable regression analyses were undertaken to test associations between PNPLA3 genotype and biomarkers of kidney dysfunction. RESULTS: The nALT patient group had higher urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin levels (u-NGAL, a biomarker of RTI) (P < .001), higher albuminuria (P = .039) and greater prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD; P = .046) than the abnALT group. The association between PNPLA3 GG genotype and risk of CKD and abnormal albuminuria remained significant after adjustment for kidney risk factors and severity of NAFLD histology, mostly in the nALT group. Similarly, PNPLA3 GG genotype was associated with higher u-NGAL levels in the nALT group, even after adjustment for the aforementioned risk factors and glomerular filtration-based markers (ß-coefficient: 22.29, 95% CI: 0.99-43.60, P = .041). CONCLUSION: Patients with NAFLD and persistently nALT, who carry the PNPLA3 rs738409 G allele, are at higher risk of early glomerular and tubular damage. We suggest PNPLA3 genotyping may help identify patients with NAFLD at higher risk of RTI.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: There is an immediate need for non-invasive accurate tests for diagnosing liver fibrosis in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Previously, it has been suggested that MACK-3 (a formula that combines homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance with serum serum aspartate aminotransferase and cytokeratin [CK]18-M30 levels) accurately identifies patients with fibrotic NASH. Our aim was to assess the performance of MACK-3 and develop a novel, non-invasive algorithm for diagnosing fibrotic NASH. METHODS: Six hundred and thirty-six adults with biopsy-proven non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) from two independent Asian cohorts were enrolled in our study. Liver stiffness measurement (LSM) was assessed by vibration-controlled transient elastography (Fibroscan). Fibrotic NASH was defined as NASH with a NAFLD activity score (NAS) ≥ 4 and F ≥ 2 fibrosis. RESULTS: Metabolic syndrome (MetS), platelet count and MACK-3 were independent predictors of fibrotic NASH. On the basis of their regression coefficients, we developed a novel nomogram showing a good discriminatory ability (area under receiver operating characteristic curve [AUROC]: 0.79, 95% confidence interval [CI 0.75-0.83]) and a high negative predictive value (NPV: 94.7%) to rule out fibrotic NASH. In the validation set, this nomogram had a higher AUROC (0.81, 95%CI 0.74-0.87) than that of MACK-3 (AUROC: 0.75, 95%CI 0.68-0.82; P < 0.05) with a NPV of 93.2%. The sequential combination of this nomogram with LSM data avoided the need for liver biopsy in 56.9% of patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our novel nomogram (combining MACK-3, platelet count and MetS) shows promising utility for diagnosing fibrotic NASH. The sequential combination of this nomogram and vibration-controlled transient elastography limits indeterminate results and reduces the number of unnecessary liver biopsies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) I148M (rs738409) genotype influences clinical/biochemical characteristics in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but whether PNPLA3-I148M (rs738409) genotype also influences the diagnostic performance of noninvasive diagnostic tests for NAFLD is uncertain. Our aim was to investigate the differences in diagnostic performance of noninvasive diagnostic tests for NAFLD according to PNPLA3-I148M (rs738409) genotype. METHODS: Fifty-eight healthy controls and 349 patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD were included. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROCs) were calculated to predict hepatic steatosis (fatty liver index and hepatic steatosis index), nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (cytokeratin-18 M30 and M65), and significant fibrosis (≥F2 fibrosis) (fibrosis-4 and BARD), stratifying by rs738409 genotypes (CC and CG + GG groups). RESULTS: Fatty liver index and hepatic steatosis index showed good diagnostic performance for diagnosing steatosis only in the CG + GG group with AUROCs ranging from 0.819 to 0.832. Cytokeratin-18 M30 (AUROC = 0.688) and M65 (AUROC = 0.678) had suboptimal performance for diagnosing nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in the CG + GG group, whereas both had good performance (AUROC = 0.814 and 0.813, respectively) in the CC group. BARD score showed good performance in the CG + GG group compared with the CC group (AUROC = 0.805 and 0.532, respectively). Fibrosis-4 had suboptimal performance in the CG + GG group and good performance in the CC group (AUROC = 0.662 and 0.801, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Diagnostic performance of noninvasive tests for NAFLD varied markedly according to PNPLA3 genotypes. Clinicians should be aware that PNPLA3 genotype limits the clinical utility of noninvasive diagnostic tests for diagnosing NAFLD.

RESUMO

Although several risk factors for metabolic syndrome (MetS) have been reported, there are few clinical scores that predict its incidence. Therefore, we created and validated a risk score for prediction of 3-year risk for MetS. Three-year follow-up data of 4395 initially MetS-free subjects, enrolled for an annual physical examination from Wenzhou Medical Center were analyzed. Subjects at enrollment were randomly divided into the training and the validation cohort. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were employed for model development. The selected variables were assigned an integer or half-integer risk score proportional to the estimated coefficient from the logistic model. Risk scores were tested in a validation cohort. The predictive performance of the model was tested by computing the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC). Four independent predictors were chosen to construct the MetS risk score, including BMI (HR=1.906, 95% CI: 1.040-1.155), FPG (HR=1.507, 95% CI: 1.305-1.741), DBP (HR=1.061, 95% CI: 1.002-1.031), HDL-C (HR=0.539, 95% CI: 0.303-0.959). The model was created as -1.5 to 4 points, which demonstrated a considerable discrimination both in the training cohort (AUROC=0.674) and validation cohort (AUROC=0.690). Comparison of the observed with the estimated incidence of MetS revealed satisfactory precision. We developed and validated the MetS risk score with 4 risk factors to predict 3-year risk of MetS, useful for assessing the individual risk for MetS in medical practice.

RESUMO

The persistence of HIV in resting memory CD4+ T cells at a latent state is considered as the major barrier on the path to achieve a cure for HIV. Proteasome inhibitors (PIs) were previously reported as latency reversing agents (LRAs) but the mechanism underlying this function is yet unclear. Here we demonstrate that PIs reactivate latent HIV ex vivo without global T cell activation, and may facilitate host innate immune responses. Mechanistically, latent HIV reactivation induced by PIs is mediated by heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) via the recruitment of the heat shock protein (HSP) 90-positive transcriptional elongation factor b (p-TEFb) complex. Specifically, HSP90 downstream HSF1 gives positive feedback to the reactivation process through binding to cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9) and preventing it from undergoing degradation by the proteasome. Overall, these findings suggest proteasome inhibitors as potential latency reversing agents. In addition, HSF1/HSP90 involved in HIV transcription elongation, may serve as therapeutic targets in HIV eradication.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To determine the regulatory role and mechanism of nitric oxide (NO) in the development and hatching of mouse blastocysts. METHODS: The Kunming female mice were superovulated and then mated with mature male mice. On the day 2.5 of their pregnancy, morulae were flushed from their uterine horns with culture media. Morulae were cultured in different concentrations of N-nitro-L arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), sodium nitroprusside (SNP), or the combination of L-NAME and SNP in culture media for 48 hours. The development and hatching of blastocysts were examined on day 4 and day 5 and the total numbers of blastocyst cells and cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase 3 (caspase 3) were observed under confocal laser scanning microscope. RESULTS: With the increase of the concentration of L-NAME or SNP, the hatching rate of blastocysts and the total number of blastocyst cells were significantly reduced. The addition of 10 nmol/L SNP in culture media with 5 mmol/L L-NAME significantly increased the development of blastocysts and promoted hatching of blastocysts. However, with increase of SNP concentration in culture media with 5 mmol/L L-NAME, the development and hatching rates of blastocysts were significantly decreased. L-NAME had no obvious effect on the expression of active caspase 3 in blastocyst cells. However, when being above 500 nmol/L,SNP significantly increased the expression of caspase 3 in blastocyst cells. CONCLUSIONS: NO plays an important role in development and hatching of mouse blastocysts. Excessively high or low NO can damage the division of blastomeres, resulting in the failure of the blastocyst development and hatching. Also, excessively high NO can lead to the apoptosis of the blastocyst cells.

RESUMO

Two new 9-hydroxy-7H-furo[3,2-g]chromen-7-one derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their in vitro vasodilatory activity. The structures of two compounds were elucidated by infrared, ¹H NMR, and mass spectral data. The in vitro pharmacological evaluation indicated that both of them possessed well vasodilatory activity compared with imperatorin. The molecule docking also showed two target compounds docked well with L-calcium channel (PDB code: 3G43). The result suggested that they would be potential vasodilatory agents for hypertension.

RESUMO

Many pathological phenomena of male infertility are related to epigenetic changes in male germ cells. Epigenetic regulation during spermatogenesis plays an important role in mitotic/meiotic divisions and spermiogenesis. The histones have various post-translational modifications on different amino acid residues during spermatogenesis. These modifications are crucial to the precise regulation of spermatogenesis. Moreover, the histone-to-protamine transition will occur during spermiogenesis. Many studies have also found that abnormal changes of histone modifications during spermatogenesis may damage the sperm development, leading to male sterility. This article reviews the changes of histone modifications during spermatogenesis, the regulation of the development of male germ cells, and the relationship between histone abnormalities and male sterility.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of bisphenol-A (BPA) on blastocyst development and implantation. METHODS: According to completely randomized grouping method, 90 pregnant mice were divided into 100, 300, and 600 mg/(kg·d)BPA groups and control group. BPA-treated pregnant mice were orally administered with BPA at concentrations of 100, 300 and 600 mg/(kg·d) from day 0.5 to day 3.5 of their pregnancy. Blastocyst implantation and development were studied. RESULTS: In the 300 mg/(kg·d) BPA group, the number of implantation sites and implantation rate were significantly decreased. In the 600 mg/(kg·d) group, no implantation sites were observed among pregnant mice and BPA inhibited embryo implantation. Blastocyst development on day 4 was examined, and findings showed that the development rate and total numbers of blastocysts in BPA treatment groups had no significant difference from the control group. However, BPA at 300 and 600 mg/(kg·d) significantly reduced blastocyst hatching rate and dramatically increased the number of blastocyst apoptotic cells when compared with those in the control group. CONCLUSION: BPA at a high concentration damages the blastocyst development before implantation and inhibits embryo implantation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Scraping therapy is widely used in treating stage I and II essential hypertension in China. However, there has been no systematic evaluation of the efficacy of scraping therapy on blood pressure and sleep quality in stage I and II essential hypertension. SEARCH STRATEGY: Seven electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EBSCO, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang Data electronic databases) were searched from inception to December 2022. Based on the principle of combining subject words with text words, the search strategy was constructed around search terms for "scraping therapy," "scraping," "Guasha," "Gua sha," "hypertension," and "high blood pressure" during the database searches. INCLUSION CRITERIA: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included if they recruited patients with stage I and II essential hypertension and included a scraping therapy intervention. The intervention group received antihypertensive drugs and scraping therapy, while the control group only took antihypertensive drugs. DATA EXTRACTION AND ANALYSIS: Review Manager 5.4.0 and STATA 15.1 were used to enter all the relevant outcome variables to conduct the meta-analysis. The quality of the selected RCTs was assessed using the PEDro scale. The sensitivity analysis was carried out by iteratively excluding individual studies and repeating the analysis to determine the stability of the findings and identify any studies with greater influence on the outcome. Subgroup analysis was performed to find the source of heterogeneity. Funnel plots were used to evaluate the publication bias of included studies. RESULTS: Nine RCTs including 765 participants were selected. Meta-analysis showed that scraping therapy combined with medication had an advantage over the use of medication alone in lowering systolic blood pressure (mean difference [MD] = -5.09, 95% confidence interval [CI] = -6.50 to -3.67, P < 0.001) and diastolic blood pressure (MD = -2.66, 95% CI = -3.17 to -2.14, P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis showed that scraping therapy improved sleep quality in middle-aged patients with hypertension, but the efficacy was better in elderly patients (MD = -7.91, 95% CI = -8.65 to -7.16, P < 0.001) than in middle-aged patients (MD = -2.67, 95% CI = -4.12 to -1.21, P = 0.0003). CONCLUSION: The available evidence indicates that scraping therapy has significant effects on patients with stage I and II hypertension, and it improves sleep quality for elderly patients with hypertension better than for middle-aged ones. Scraping therapy can be an adjunctive treatment for stage I and II essential hypertension. However, further high-quality studies are needed to verify its effectiveness and the best therapeutic strategies. Please cite this article as: Zhu, Z, Wang J, Pan, X. RESUMO

AIM: To explore the effects of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) on retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell behaviors. METHODS: The human adult retinal pigment epithelial cell line-19 (ARPE-19) were treated by HGF or mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (MET) inhibitor SU11274 in vitro. Cell viability was detected by a Cell Counting Kit-8 assay. Cell proliferation and motility was detected by a bromodeoxyuridine incorporation assay and a wound healing assay, respectively. The expression levels of MET, phosphorylated MET, protein kinase B (AKT), and phosphorylated AKT proteins were determined by Western blot assay. The MET and phosphorylated MET proteins were also determined by immunofluorescence assay. RESULTS: HGF increased ARPE-19 cells' viability, proliferation and migration, and induced an increase of phosphorylated MET and phosphorylated AKT proteins. SU11274 significantly reduced cell viability, proliferation, and migration and decreased the expression of MET and AKT proteins. SU11274 suppressed HGF-induced increase of viability, proliferation, and migration in ARPE-19 cells. Additionally, SU11274 also blocked HGF-induced phosphorylation of MET and AKT proteins. CONCLUSION: HGF enhances cellular viability, proliferation, and migration in RPE cells through the MET/AKT signaling pathway, whereas this enhancement is suppressed by the MET inhibitor SU11274. HGF-induced MET/AKT signaling might be a vital contributor of RPE cells survival.

RESUMO

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a commonly used phenolic environmental estrogen. Long-term exposure of female mammalians to BPA can lead to endocrine disorders, followed by the morphological and functional changes in ovary, uterus, vagina, and oviducts. The interactions of BPA with various target molecules or tissues will cause different effects. To further elucidate the effects of BPA on female reproductive system, we review the changes in the structure and functions of female reproduction system after BPA exposure and their possible mechanisms.

RESUMO

Subsequently to the publication of this paper, the authors have realized that an error was made during the compilation of Fig. 2A as it appeared on p. 4. Essentially, the partial Q23 images of the '1.56 µm' group were inadvertently copied across to the Q23 images of the '3.12 µm' group, leading to the cell number of the Q23 quadrant being the same for both the 1.56 µm and the 3.12 µm groups, and also leading the total cell number of the 3.12 µm group being calculated as 106.97%, which was clearly incorrect (the total percentage should have added up to 100%). The corrected version of Fig. 2, showing the correct data for the Q23 images in the '3.12 µm' group, is shown on the next page. Note that this error did not significantly affect the results or the conclusions reported in this paper, and all the authors agree with the publication of this Corrigendum. The authors are grateful to the Editor of Oncology Reports for allowing them this opportunity to publish a corrigendum, and apologize to the readership for any inconvenience caused.
